This is one of our favorite breakfast spots and come here almost every weekend. Food is amazing. Staff is always super friendly and attentive, always checking on us and topping off our coffees before they are even empty. Atmosphere is cozy and has that hometown feel. It can get a little busy but that is for a reason and not a bad thing. We came her for breakfast today. Almost entire restaurant approximately 90% of tables waiting for their food. One dish at a time coming out of kitchen every 10 minutes. People waiting for over an hour for their food. Customers getting frustrated and getting up and leaving. Food arriving burnt or cold. Pancake batter does have a good flavor and syrup is warm. They should have locked the doors and and said we are closed today. Sad. Gordon Ramsey needs to visit this location. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. I felt sorry for severs who couldn't do anything about the situation. When food is made fresh it is good. Today wasn't that day. Update: I spoke to a family member after leaving the restaurant today and she relates she ate here yesterday and they waited over an hour for their food and there was hardly any customers. read more

Always a pleasant dining experience at the henhouse. Gotta live the huge plate of pancakes. The kids always gobble them up. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Which is amazing by the way! We usually like Henhouse, but todays breakfast was disappointing. The service was very slow. As we patiently waited for our food, we saw quite a few takeout orders coming out of the kitchen, so it seems that takeout took precedence over in-restaurant. Finally, our food arrived, and I made a comment about the slow service. Megan came back with a slew of excuses about being busy, not enough cooks, and finally a Covid-19 excuse. OK. I noticed only two pieces of bacon on my plate and I asked for 1 more. Megan said, "two pieces is an order" and would only offer me a 2nd order of bacon which I turned down. 1st: Three pieces is normal order of bacon everywhere else I go and 2nd: If service is that slow, would it have killed her to throw and extra piece on the plate to make things right? Either Megan needs a class in good customer service, or the owner is OK with this type of treatment. I wonder which it is? For us, there are plenty of other breakfast places we like in the area. read more

Have been to the Henhouse Cafe 6 or 7 times over almost a year. We go right after church. The 1st and 2nd time eating there were great. Food was cooked well. And served timely. Since then, sadly, they've progressively gotten worse. Today was the final time for my husband and me. Bacon was gross! Overly fatty and not completely cooked. French toast wasn't toasty at all. Just bread with egg maybe brushed on and barely cooked. The previous several times we've eaten there, the potatoes were almost raw. Barely fried. Today we asked for our potatoes to be fried to the point of being crispy. We'll, they were cooked, but certainly not crispy. Then when we got the bill and the server handed my husband the credit card terminal device, the tip choices on the screen were: 20%, 25%, and 30%!!! So he tapped the "custom" tip button. And gave 15%. If restaurants keep making it difficult to give a reasonable tip......they might not get tipped at all. We're done with this "after church" restaurant. read more

All around very mediocre experience Food came out. I ordered an omelette. I had to use napkins to mop up the grease and water the mushrooms let off. The fruit was from yesterday, but what rubbed me the wrong way was the staff. Two in particular. A young man (if the manager is reading this he was white with tattoos) who was obnoxious, unprofessional, and kept answering his phone on the floor while working. This is a business. No rules applied to him as I overheard him talking about a customer in a rude way. My server was a young gal who was more interested in flirting with the man at the bar than help me. Took my order. The corn bread instead is the traditional English muffin gives it a unique sweet taste. And the pulled beef... SO JUICY! Just left the KOA campgrounds and wanted to get breakfast in the way home. They had outdoor seating and menu looked decent. My travel buddy enjoyed her meal but I was underwhelmed. Bigger isn't always better. The pancake was huge but rubbery and dense there's no coming back from that rookie mistake. I usually say something about my dissatisfaction but decided to let it be. I can't for the life of me fathom why anyone would drop less than 5 stars on this place. From the warm and welcoming ambience to the food challenge size portions I declare, in my clearly not so humble opinion this place to be a gem and a must visit spot for breakfast aficionados. I ordered 'Grandpa's Skillet' and I'll tell you right now, he's not getting it back. Perfectly seasoned potatoes with mushrooms, onions, bell peppers covered in house made sausage gravy that is so good I sincerely thought to ask if they dump the creamer from the small bucket on my table and just fill it with the gravy- you know, in case I needed it. Fortunately my self restraint and portion control mindedness prevailed. Initially I thought I might need ketchup, now I feel as though I should slap myself for having even the remotest notion to defile this culinary magnificence. Everything is made fresh, delicious and a test of willpower to not over indulge. Did I mention the friendly, accommodating and lighting fast service? There is an old move called Defending your life- if you know it your a pre- geriatric boomer like me, in one scene he's in heaven and orders breakfast which is immediately sat down in front of him- yeah it's like that, and I know It's not heaven since it's close to triple digits outside and I'm pretty sure Hells cafeteria sucks. It was okay. We went on a Saturday morning around 930. Not much of a wait but got irritated with hostess. We asked for a booth which was available and being cleaned. When it was ready she kept asking if we could switch to a table since she wanted to sit a bigger party at the booth. No I do NOT want to sit at the table right at the front door by the hostess podium. Stop asking me. We were there ahead of the bigger party. Not my problem. Also try to smile every once in a while. Anyways, to the food. I ordered the Paul Bunyan breakfast dish. Basic 2 eggs, potatoes, sausage, and 1/2 of french toast. The potatoes were undercooked and had never been introduced to salt. The french toast was literally 1 slice of battered white bread. Tasted okay but 1 slice is considered a half order? Wife ordered the steak and mushroom hash breakfast. Again the potatoes needed salt. There was nothing steak or mushroom about the dish. The "steak" was ground beef. She got 2 pieces of mushroom in the entire dish! Her side of toast was 1 slice. I was there with my family a couple of years ago for the first time and didn't really remember the taste of their huge pancake too well. I decided to give it another try with a buddy of mine who hadn't been before. I now know why I didn't remember and haven't been back since. The pancakes were HORRIBLE, sadly. Way too sweet. I believe the added cinnamon if I'm correct on that part, was just way too much. On top of that, the pancake was next to impossible to cut with just a fork, for the both of us. Too tough and chewy. At one point I grabbed the butter knife for the assist. Also WAY overpriced for what you get, and we just ordered the pancake itself. In addition to that, I also ordered a large glass of milk. With it being a huge pancake, of course, you have to have milk to go with it. To my shock, it was laughingly small, actually shockingly small glass size. I'm not kidding. I've had juice glasses bigger. The gimmick of the size of the pancakes will get you in there, the taste and toughness will keep you from going back if that's all you're getting. read more

Give me a break! The portion size on the chicken seems to have gone done as well. It's almost $20 with a reasonable tip and an overpriced drink. Red Robin, for example, charges $1.99 for unlimited iced tea. In addition the gravy on the chicken fried chicken was runny. I thought it was a bad day but I've been there 3 times since Covid and every time the gravy has been watered down. I am very disappointed. Henhouse was a good and popular location. We went on a Sunday morning, so it was definitely busy with a line out the door and large groups waiting - so if your with more than two people during peak hours, it may be a bit of a wait. With two of us we were told about 30 minutes but we're seated working 5-10 - which was great!! After being seated we thought service was a bit slow although we recognize it was fairly busy there so I guarantee it was not a fault of the server but maybe a short staffing that day. With that, we also thought it was fairly loud. Not just with other customers but also the staff was loud yelling to others about taking food places or needing things at tables right in front and around us. We felt the coffee was not super strong - so if you add cream start with less and go from there. The taste was otherwise okay. Our server was on point with the refills. The food was good! We would definitely return here and I would be excited to try other items on the menu! We started with a cinnamon roll, which was good but a bit pricy. I did think the omelet was a bit smaller than expected but the flavor was great! Overall this is definitely a poppin place to go to that is well worth the wait. Large groups beware, the wait is probably longer during peak hours. The prices are a bit high (I thought) about $12 for me before the tip - including a coffee (and my buddy got stuck with the cinnamon roll; costed $18 total for him). read more

So, this place seems to have somewhat of a following. I can't blame people either. The chicken fried chicken is quite possibly the best fried chicken I have ever had. My wife says it's a close second to the fried chicken we got while visiting Nashville. They have good coffee, and service, while sometimes a little slow (due to being busy, not a knock) is always happy and inviting. Their biscuits and gravy are fantastic as well. The only issue we had was their cinnamon roll. Most cinnamon rolls are a little dense, but theirs is super fluffy. It's also beyond sweet, my wife and I called it diabetes on a plate. I'm not going to get mad at it, because there are plenty of people who enjoy it, it just wasn't for me. Thanks for having a great spot to enjoy some amazing food. P.S. Our Recommendations were made by our server hunter who was a real gem. We also met Bailey the manager who clearly loves people and his job.
