Very interesting restaurant, chill atmosphere. Service was great but the portions were too big. It felt wasteful.

My sister and I came to dinner here for the first time on December 29th after a particularly emotional day after visiting our mother in the hospital. We were lucky enough to be placed in Brandon's section. He is an absolute treasure of a human being and he brought the perfect amount of humor and conversation to turn our night into a positive one! He recommended his favorites based on a few questions he asked us and my sister ended up with the lemon ricotta pancakes which were phenomenal and dare I say I got one of the best burgers I've ever had! We also each went home with a container of your delicious fry seasoning. My margarita was also perfect. My husband and I are coming back up this week and I will be bringing him in on Friday night! What happened?! I used to go to Hell's Kitchen monthly for breakfast meetings and my go-to was always a big bowl of their mahnomin porridge -- a masterful concoction of wild rice, dried blueberries, dried cranberries, maple syrup and roasted hazelnuts. One of the best things on the menu. See photo below from their website. Admittedly, it's been two years but I was excited to see it was still on the menu. So I ordered it. Imagine my surprise when the server delivered a tiny (!) cupful of its classic dish. The portion was shockingly and noticeably small (I counted six spoonfuls) and left me wanting more. The photo on the website is definitely misleading. Please don't skimp on the portions. Or at least offer more than one size. Many of us -- myself included -- would gladly pay more for a satisfying bowl instead of a skimpy teaser. read more

Visited with friends during happy hour. The entire restaurant was decorated for the holidays, we sat in the gingerbread room, absolutely adorable!! The service was fantastic as our server checked in often and was on top of our drinks. Food was average, our table had tacos, the grain bowl, and pancakes. The pancakes were the winner for the best plate. Overall, would recommend for the experience and atmosphere. read more

What I liked most was the ambiance. Walking in, you had to go downstairs where it's all dark and decorated kinda like it wanted to be a haunted mansion. Inside was very diner-y with a dark vibe. I got the huevos rancheros which is one of their most popular dishes and it was just okay. There was a tortilla on the bottom and I do like how they topped it with hash browns. There was also black beans, scrambled eggs, and cheese on top. What helped the dish was the salsa and their Minnesota made hot sauce but otherwise, it was pretty bland, like something I could make at home. Unfortunately, it was also pretty lukewarm when it came out so that didn't help either. I also got 1 of their lemon ricotta pancake for "dessert" and asked for it to come out when I was done with my meal. It was topped with fresh berries and powdered sugar. I personally don't like it as much with the syrup. That was pretty good, light and fluffy but I would only get it if i'm sharing and not a whole meal. My son took us here, he had heard about it but never tried it. Fun atmosphere, great drinks and awesome food. Servers were friendly and nice. We had the fried cheese curd app and it was delicious. All 4 of us had different variations of the smash burger, definitely recommended! The seasoned fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw was fresh and delicious. Dessert was shared, cheesecake and the peanut butter marshmallow cup. Also great choices! The cocktails and beer were served quickly and were cold and delicious. Came down to Hell's for the "pop-up brunch" for their soft opening since closing down for the pandemic. Sadly it did not go so well, if my brunch was any indication of what they need to work on, they have a ways to go before opening up full time. We were super excited to come back to HK and even more excited to see the new menu items. But everything started down hill when our table was being neglected. Just when we were thinking they forgot about us, we could hear the staff actually say "I forgot they were over there"(heads up, voices travel in a limited seating dining room). So I (finally) ordered my very much anticipated Bison Benedict waffles, however upon arrival, it was the regular Bison Benedict. After I sent it back it took another 12 min. The staff said they entered it wrong and gave the excuse that "they are training" and "it's been a year and a half since I've waited on tables......but I've worked here for ten years", to me that can be interpreted a number of ways. I'm sure the apology was sincere, but on such an important weekend you think my meal would have been comped. Even after acknowledging multiple times that they were making us wait, they still kept neglecting us. Even at the end it took another 20 min to get our check and even then it was because they happened to glance over and see me signaling. My meal itself was just ok. The eggs were overdone and the sauce was very thick and the waffles didn't really add anything special to the flavor. My wife ordered the Huevos which she said was awesome as usual. We both ordered cocktails which were also very good. Overall the main reason for three stars was the horrible service. I'll be back once Hell's gets their act together but won't be ordering the Bison Benedict waffles again. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. Locally-employee-owned and operated - they have awesome food and fun cocktails and mocktails to choose from, plus a really cool vibe and fun decor to boot! They get super into themes like the various holidays and seriously, the decor alone is worth the trip downtown! Parking is super easy (and cheap!) in the attached parking ramp. Try the Lemon-Ricotta hotcakes! They're amazing! The Triple-C burger is the best I've ever had. This is where we go for all our special occasions, which works out perfectly because we always stop by the Photo Booth on our way out, so we have pics to commemorate every special occasion! read more

Three things make me happy when going out to eat: 1. A clean & attractive establishment 2. Good service 3. Great food 4. Live music The interior/exterior is very attractive. I got Speakeasy vibes because of the entrance colors and you have to walk down to a basement to get in the restaurant, but no worries, all customers get access to the wi-fi password. The chandelier in the entrance is decorated with knives (which is quite creative), but the creativity doesn't stop there. The Bloody Mary Bar has limitless options and you could create an entire meal in a glass. The entrees are eye catching as well. I had an 11:30am reservation and they sat us at 11am. Kahlila was my waitress. She was so pleasant, knowledgeable and offered suggestions. The candied bacon on the deviled eggs, added a little extra flavor. I was apprehensive about the Lemon Ricotta Hotcakes, but she reassured me that they were delicious and she was right! I would order more in a heartbeat!!! I am a fan of live music and they did not disappoint. The band was really good. They were an appropriate noise level and gave me a little something to snap my fingers to. This has become a new favorite. The ambiance, food and service makes it well worth it if you are in the Minneapolis area. read more

Hell's Kitchen is the perfect example of the over-hyped and underwhelming Minneapolis food scene. As a rule, restaurants here don't seem to actually care about the customer experience and this place is no exception. The food at Hell's Kitchen simply isn't good and the service leaves a lot to be desired. On our visit, we were asked during lunch time on a weekday if we had a reservation -- we didn't -- and the restaurant was practically empty. We were placed in a corner behind the door to the kitchen. An older white couple who came in behind us was not asked that same question and were sat in the main part of the restaurant. Interesting. We were still willing to give the place a chance, but that was a mistake. The food was bland and, quite frankly, a lot of the food is so awful that it is insulting to the culture that most of the menu steals from. We won't be back and certainly won't contribute to the collective delusion about this place. read more

Here's the deal, I was here about 10 years ago for breakfast, from out of town, it was cool & fun and the food was good. The ambience is cool. Or hot, depending on your take. You have to go downstairs to get to the front door. You are in hell, after all. The restaurant is much much bigger than it was so plenty of room to sit big tables before a game. Everything was between $15-$20 on the menu. Bloody Mary bar is the bomb, $18 for a huge buffet of Bloody Mary items including beef sticks, hard boiled eggs and bacon, and a mimosa bar, too, which is another whole buffet. Plus you get a Photo Booth photo of your Bloody Mary. The breakfast food is good in Hell. Buttermilk pancakes were very good with a couple of eggs. Lemon ricotta pancakes were better, 3 to an order, delicious and fluffy. Huevos Rancheros were good, large plate of cheese, eggs and tortillas, good, not great. Total bill was about $140 with a good tip for 4 of us and a Bloody Mary bar. Service was excellent and the place was crowded. Food WS seven quick and hot. Least friendly staff in the twin cities. Didn't check back after we got our food for a long time. It was me and my 6 year old. Checked it out for lunch because of the hella-dazzle decorations. But they sat us in the back bar corner so we didn't get any holiday ambiance. Food was between mediocre and crappy, and I had stomach troubles the rest of the day. I have given this place multiple chances, but done now. Why do people come to this place? Minneapolis has so many good restaurants, no one should be wasting their time and money here. read more

Service was great they checked on us periodically specially for how busy they were. I've been a frequent flyer down the stairway to Hell('s Kitchen). Most notably, this was my friend group's pre-prom dinner spot and a few years later, an anniversary dinner spot before a Wild hockey game. Most recently, I visited with a group of foodie friends for a Saturday brunch. Life sure is better down in Hell. Our server was friendly and very communicative. He informed us right away that the kitchen was behind on orders and later when we had a small issue with a dish, he took care of it promptly. Super service! Mistakes happen and some things are beyond control - I was very appreciative of how it was all handled. Also there's a parking ramp connected to the building Hell's Kitchen is located in. The day we visited, parking was $5 flat, which was a good deal for downtown mpls. Not sure if this is just a weekend thing, but worth looking into before you go! As for the specifics: Strawberry Mimosa - champagne with strawberry puree - tasted good and sounded good in theory but the purée ended up separating and floating around the drink a bit, occasionally creating a weird texture. I don't regret ordering it, but I'd venture to try another cocktail next time (of which there are many to pick from)! Lemon Ricotta Waffle - I've loved the Lemon Ricotta Hotcakes previously and wanted to try the waffles this time. I actually loved the waffle format even more! Very fluffy and great lemon flavor. The berries on top were the perfect touch. I would 100% order this again. Churro Tots - tater tots tossed with sugar and cinnamon and served with caramel sauce - so this was the dish that came out incorrectly at first. It was accidentally salted before the sugar and cinnamon so it tasted sooo salty. I asked our server about it and he said the salt must've been an accident. The second time the churro tots came out they were delicious!! Still a potato, but a dessert potato. The caramel sauce was a bit thinner too, which I appreciated because it made the tots easier to dip!! Their other tot options looked good too so I'd try something else next time, but that doesn't mean these weren't great! :) If you're thinking about going to Hell's Kitchen... I gave this place a shot because of all their great reviews. It was good. I went on a Thursday night and it was pretty empty. But the service was good. I do not drink alcohol but I do love a virgin drink. It is so nice that they have a non-alcoholic drink list. I got the ginger fruit fizzy (with raspberry as the fruit purée of the day) and it was very good. For an appetizer I got the cheese curds. I have never had one before but these were amazing. Pairing them with the red pepper jelly was fantastic. For my entree I got the ny strip steak. For me, there was not enough flavor to it. But the mashed potatoes were out of this world. I was too full for dessert so I took the bleeding heart brownie to go and it was delicious. The only thing I don't entirely agree with is adding an automatic 15% service charge for the employees. I have never tipped less than 20%. But 15% seems pretty steep for an automatic charge. read more

Iconic downtown breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot in Minneapolis. But, I've always gone for breakfast. It is legendary. The room is downstairs... Consistent with the hell theme... But the menu is heavenly. Sorry for the dad pun. The huevos rancheros are among the specialties, however there are a wide variety of traditional and unusual selections, from eggs and omelettes to walleye hash. Whatever you do, make sure to get the toast and house made peanut butter, which makes the premium price absolutely worth it. I usually went in for business, which made the setting and the hipster servers that much more fun. In addition, if you sit in the main room, you may be treated to children's cartoons during breakfast. A must if you are looking for a place for a breakfast meeting or for a delicious breakfast and a visit to downtown. Wholeheartedly recommend this unique joint. It is an object lesson in Minneapolis being a cooler city than you think it probably is. read more

My burger and cocktail were so good but the churro ice cream sandwich... there are no words. The bartender had great restaurant recommendations that I took him up on. Was in town for NYE Vikings/Green Bay game. Hells Kitchen was highly suggested by many. We made reservations a few days in advance for Sunday brunch. The earliest time they had was 12:45 so make sure you reserve many days ahead for earlier time slots. Our party of 4 had protein bowls, salmon bene, cinnamon roll, and an omelet. Fun, funky, delicious. Descend into a sinful den of over the top tastebud teasers. Chicken wild rice soup is a journey of warmth and cuddles and love while the fresh walleye bites take you to a shore lunch on the side of a lake. Super fresh house salad to round it out and an addictive velvety bright lemon ricotta cheesecake to finish. I had no intention of eating the entire cheesecake but, oh well. Overall, one of the worst dining experience I have ever had. All our drinks came out super randomly ( people ordering their 2nd drink before I got my first). I got the Hot Apple Butter Rum, it was honestly the worst drink I have ever had. I was not the only one who thought so. Our server was rude and very obviously did not care. She added guacamole to my nachos when I told her no when she asked. I couldn't eat over half of my nachos, that already were cold and looked old when they came out. It took my nachos over an hour to come out as well. When I said I didn't order guacamole she just took the charge off for gauc. Personally, I don't think I should have paid for any of the nachos. Additionally, I have been puking and having other stomach problems since my meal today. Been on and off the toilet all night. I will never come back to this restaurant again. Service, food, and drinks were all terrible and not worth the money or tip. I honestly don't know how this place has stayed open. Absolutely waste of my money and time. I have visited Hell's Kitchen a few times, but apparently have never done a review. (*Bad girl!) I ordered food to go on my lunch break, which is everyone else's dinner time... ugghhh.. i digress. Located mid-block from the intersection of 9th and Marquette or 9th and Nicollet, Hell's Kitchen is located in the basement. Once you enter the doors from 9th there's an option to either take an immediate right to take an elevator or to continue walking until you see their sign and take the stairs downstairs. i placed my order online, to refresh myself of what they had to offer. I was feeling very salady and went with the Baby Kale and Spinach salad and added a protein of shrimp. I also had a bowl of of the soup of the day, which was White Bean Chxn Chili. Both were good. The soup would have been even more amazing had they given me cornbread. ;-) I placed my order and was told it would be ready at 6:43pm. Wouldn't you know at exactly 6:43pm I received a text saying my food was being bagged? I walked on over, went to the Host station, was greeted on sight, provided my name for my pick up order, was handed my bag and was out! Definitely a very fun atmosphere and good decor! The menu has so many options to choose from and the food did not disappoint! I ordered one of the rotating Sangrias which was a delicious white wine base. I had the Big Nic which was flavorful and cooked well. I really enjoyed the French fries as well. Updated 15MAY2022 So happy to be back in Hell! The Smokin'Hubster and I hadn't planned on brunching in Hell, yet our unplanned outing was perfect on so many levels! We stopped at the hostess desk, surprised that there was only a 10 minute wait. She helpfully reminded us that seating is open at the bar. Bar?! Yes, please! The allure of live music pulled us in (though quieter, The Far Side Lounge is epic in its own right) and we were delighted to see the legendary Cornbread Harris & Friends! I had seen the announcement in the 'Dispatch from the Cities' email*, but I honestly didn't think we'd have a chance to get in; silly me! Before I dive into the food, you have to come and see the refreshed restaurant. When I heard about the remodel, I was... concerned. I mean, can you really improve Hell? In a word, yes! I've been to every Hell's Kitchen location (yes, even the early first days) and this is the best iteration so far. It's bright and welcoming without losing the edge-y hellish feel. Kudos to everyone that put in the work to make it so successful. Also, the staff is vaccinated AND masks are optional (for guests and the staff), so you are completely free to have a damn good time in Hell's Kitchen. I'm sure you know about the fabulous Bloody Mary bar and I cannot top that. However - and I say this very sincerely - sometimes you have to decide between the Bloody Mary and a big happy breakfast. Call me a wimp, but even after my workout I just don't think I can do both (and I was super hungry!). Instead I ordered the Fair State Party Forward Hazy IPA (so juicy and yummy!) while The Hubster chose his favorite Castle Danger Cream Ale. The menus are available physically (aka paper) or via phone app/QR code. Since we're familiar with the menu, we used the phone. Smokin'Hubster loves his bennies, so his pick was easy (Classic Eggs Benedict). Me? Well, the Ham & Pear Crisp is an easy lay up. So is the Huevos Rancheros. And how in the Hell's Kitchen do you decide between them? Well, you don't. You go with a new (to me) favorite, Fredo's Breakfast Burrito and you don't spend another minute thinking about it. Just look at the photo I took and tell me that wasn't a brilliant choice! Your helpful server will mention the hot sauce options and Cholula always gets my nod. That there are choices is the hallmark of a righteous breakfast joint. Derek and Scott took great care of us at the bar. They were attentive, helpful and super friendly all through the service. Without dwelling on it too much, Scott even spent a few minutes to share some sad news about our mutual friend Norm. (He was a one-of-a-kind soul and another reason coming to Hell's Kitchen is such a special occasion.) We really appreciated that attention to us and our friend; thank you! Do you need another reason to stop by? I mean, their store has all sorts of terrific merch, food items and that damn fine cookbook. And the cafeteria will be a new discovery for us in the near future because why not? But you have to get here first, then settle in for an awesome experience with damn good food and the finest service anywhere. A group of us made a reservation for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Located downstairs, this spot can seem cramped, but opens up into different sections as you're led inside. Got a corner booth which is comfortably sat five of us. Decided to just go for it and order the Jucy Lucifer ($14ish) which comes with choice of side (opted on the chips). Patty is as you expect, stuffed with a spicy cheese but not overcooked on the meat. Bun is your standard fare, including pickles, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. Not as spicy as the name would indicate, but certainly a good burger. Chips are well fried and served with a cool dip. Service definitely took some time though the waiter was apologetic on the wait.
