This place is really loud and the food is okay. For Mother's Day I'm 90% sure we were served powdered eggs so I don't know how they can claim it is farm to table. Also once I was seated with a group of 6 at a table for 8 and we were asked to move across the restaurant to a smaller table, which was fine but a little disruptive and weird. They comped our dessert to make up for the inconvenience. This second time I was there I watched them ask another table for 2 to move so they could combine tables. They offered to buy them a round. I have never been to a restaurant where they ask people to move and especially a place that does it routinely. I think there is some work needed on managing the seating chart, etc. read more

This was my third visit in just two weeks, and every experience has been consistently positive. While I'm not typically a "Texas" person--and this restaurant is unapologetically Texas-themed--there's enough variety on the menu and eclectic charm in the decor to balance out the taxidermy. The steaks are superb. I've tried both the bone-in cowboy ribeye and the New York strip--each time adding the chilé butter, which is absolutely amazing and bursting with flavor. I'll never order a steak here without it. The grilled asparagus was excellent, and the creamy Cajun corn was rich, satisfying, and packed with flavor. Despite not being an onion ring fan, we gave them a try--and I was impressed. They're massive, made with sweet 1015 onions (so named because they're planted on October 15), and the coating is flavorful. The adobo ketchup adds a bold kick that takes them to another level. Like everything on the menu, the ingredients are proudly sourced from Texas, and it shows. Cocktail-wise, the Frozen Texas Tea is now a go-to favorite. It's like a frozen Long Island Iced Tea with a swirl of sangria--potent and delicious. I also really enjoyed the Midnight in Marfa (blanco tequila, Cointreau, blueberry pomegranate, and agave). Any cocktail that knows how to use pomegranate gets points from me. If I had one quibble, it's the cornbread. It was really good--moist, flavorful, and well-made--but felt a bit pricey for just one piece. We were sat upstairs, at a nice table overlooking Rock Rose Ave. To start- we got the queso as an app, and I ordered a dirty martini, my boyfriend got an old fashioned and my friend a mocktail. I am ridiculously picky about my martinis, and this was perfect. 10/10. The queso was pretty standard- good but not the best I ever had in life. For dinner, I ordered the double smash burger that came with fries and I added on a side of mac and cheese. My boyfriend did the ribs with cornbread and mac and cheese, and my friend the bass. I struggle alot with food prices in this city, and I thought the food was very fairly priced. My burger was $17 and it was a double patty with a ton of fries- very well seasoned as was the beef. My big issue with the burger was the bun. It was too thick for the beef, untoasted and unseasoned. Cold and tasted almost stale. I ended up just eating the burger out of the bun. My boyfriend and I both loved the mac and cheese- soooo filling. Overall food was good and portions were on point, For dessert we had the whiskey bread pudding - DELICIOUS. The best part of the night was our amazing server. I forget her name, but she had red hair and is dating another server there. She was one of the best waitresses I have ever had in my life, and I'd go back just to sit in her section again. The customer service was top notch, very professional and courteous, the food was excellent and the ambience had very modern Texas vibes, which was beautiful and the elegant. We came here in April 7 for lunch had two appetizers (pork bites and the onion rings), and these were just perfect. We also started with tortilla soup and house salad, and these were great starters. For our main meal, we had chicken fried steak, barbacoa stroganoff, baby back ribs, and western burger. All I have to say is WOW! Our party shared our plates and each entree was so awesome and salivated our palates. To top it off, we shared the whiskey bread pudding. Perfect perfect perfect way of ending our lunch experience. Haywire is the latest addition to the restaurant scene at the Domain NORTHSIDE on Rock Rose Ave. This is a business formal restaurant with a decor resembling a modern luxury Texan steakhouseanz for the adults. The chairs are made from cowhides, heads of cattle on the walls, and glamorous lighting fixtures. Perfect for business lunches, anniversaries, or to just great cuisine. They have a nice bar scene stocked full of high-end liquor, and recommend one of their Old Fashioneds. All house ingredients are sourced from the great state of Texas. I ordered the Chicken Club and my wife ordered the Smoked Fried Chicken (Wednesday only Daily Plate). It truly had that Texan ambiance and seated near the kitchen. The service was top notch. Both plates looked very presentable and the chicken club tasted very good and had many ingredients all perfected fit well. It was a pretty big sandwich and included tasty Tallow Fries. I tried the fired chicken and the crust was superbly mouthwatering and the chicken had that great smokey flavor. I wished I could eat it all. Best chicken I had in a long while. It came with mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. The mashed potatoes were PHENOMENAL. Absolutely perfect in texture and flavor. The chicken fried steak was good, but could have been warmer. Right away, I could tell Haywire is an Austin transplant. It's originally from Dallas with a recent opening at the Domain. Enjoyed our lunch and wish we got to try more things. Personally I love spots that have daily specials. The prime rib steak sandwich was divine. The fries were stale so that was a bummer. 4 stars turned 3 because I noticed we were charged $3.50 for a diet coke we didn't order. We also ordered a caesar salad that never came, but didn't get charged for. So, something is up. I am still reeling from the most fantastical dinner we've had in celebration of my husband's birthday tonight. I snagged reservations for the highly anticipated opening of Haywire and they exceeded all expectations in making our night such a fun and fantastic fanfare with celebrating us and taking such good care of us. From the moment we walked in, the hosts were easy in getting us checked in, sat down and we easily got taken care of by Summer, she was such a sweetheart in attending to us and our little one. Got his drink order in, food order in and just knew from the get go how to keep the hustle going without making us feel rushed once, she was such a good wealth of knowledge of the menu, the recommendations and explanation of dishes was also highly appreciated as she explained to us a lot of the dishes origins and backstory which made for such a rewarding meal as we were soaking in how tasty the food was and also, how breathtaking the interior decor of the restaurant experience was. You'll note the main floor is bustling and you can also peek at the open kitchen, we were welcomed to explore the hidden bookshelf room nook along with exploring the second floor to see the panoramic views of rock rose on this rainy day, and we so look forward to returning to dine in the fantastical Texas space that haywire has called home in Austin. Food highlight: Hubs ordered the low and slow chicken entree, and I went with the Texas Redfish, both were excellent in their delivery and presentation, along with portion size. The Texas four as our appetizer start was a huge portion, and our little one with his mac and cheese with fries for a kids menu option along with coloring was a very welcome addition to keep him entertained in this upscale dining where everyone was welcoming and so kind to our dinner affair. We also had a warm howdy from Hondo, part of the management team here at Haywire Austin, and he was so sweet in sharing his story and welcoming us into their first few days of operation, and generous offered a lovely bread pudding for husband's birthday celebration festivities which my little family all indulged on. All in all, I have no complaints and look forward to many future plans in revisiting for happy hours, easy lunches or intimate dinners, and love how Haywire is as chill as it is upscale business foo foo wine and dine. read more

This has been under construction in the Domain for the longest time and it's awesome to finally go inside. Sadly, I didn't have enough time for more than a drink this time, but the staff offered me a tour while I was there which was so nice of them, and everything looks great. While the upstairs is still closed to finish construction, the ground floor has an attractive bar on one end, plenty of table seating in the middle, a semi-open kitchen on the left side, and a few smaller rooms and dining areas including the coolest private room with a round table hidden behind built-in bookshelves for the ultimate in exclusivity. The upscale decor and materials are gorgeous and do a good job of expressing their Texas cattle baron aesthetic with stone and leather and wood, with some bold style choices as well. The menu is definitely on the pricey side, but they have some very intriguing options like elk in addition to less exotic Texas fare. I can't wait to come back and explore. read more

What an absolute stunner with fantastic food! We were a group of nine (9) with reservations on a Tuesday night. Service: we were seated right away and the service was super attentive all night. Our server educated us on the offerings. The team went above and beyond too. We were in town for a conference for Facility Managers - so we are naturally curious about stunning built environments. The team gave us a private tour of the rest of the facility when we were done with dinner. This extra touch of hospitality really touched us all. I'm here to say that the interior wowed us all, a group of architects, mechanical engineers and facility managers! We're a tough group to impress too! Food: We ordered the Cowboy Feast. It just made sense since there were so many of us AND we were new to the restaurant. Here's what was on our tray: 33 oz Wagyu Tomahawk Ribeye, 8 oz Garlic Stuffed Filet, 12 oz NY Strip, Mesquite Grilled Gulf Shrimp, choice of four sides. For our sides we chose mashed potatoes, broccolini, asparagus and macaroni and cheese. Everything on the tray was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Just amazing! For beverages we shared a few bottles of wine and one in our group ordered the smoked old fashioned. It was delicious with an artful presentation. Great service, food and atmosphere. Although this location hasn't been open long, it is run well and was a great place for a team meal. I tried the non-alcoholic Pink Lady cocktail - very refreshing. The table shared an onion ring tower - the breading was so light and crispy - served with a chipotle sauce - very yummy. I ordered the petite filet and asparagus for my meal. It was delicious. However, in speaking to a staff accommodations were made to get us in. We brought the whole family of 7 this night. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. The service was prompt and attentive. The restaurant is very loud though and bustling. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that upon arrival the hostess staff was not particularly welcoming or friendly and took our name without any kind of explanation or updates for our fairly long wait to be seated. New spot in The Domain that just opened a few wks ago. (Parking in the plaza is a hassle so be prepared, but that's not the restaurant's fault.) Beautiful decor, restaurant is still getting its bearings for running smoothly (mostly to figure out getting patrons seated in the right sections for RSVP vs walk-ins) since it's so new but all service was courteous and helpful. Our server Melanie R. was attentive (kept refilling lemonade without us needing to flag) and was knowledgeable about all the dishes and drinks, despite it being such a recent opening. She also mentioned that all of their steaks are sourced from their own farms and made great recommendations across all categories on the menu. All of our food was so delicious (photos attached). The staff member who brought my 12 oz strip loin steak out to us politely waited table-side requesting I cut through the center of the steak to ensure it was cooked medium rare to my liking, and it was just right :) Bathrooms are single private units w shared row of sinks across genders. It can be a bit dark to see in the evenings so if you have older folks dining with you, may want to keep an eye out. The only drawback I would note is the design of the seating section near the open kitchen. While it's visually cool to see the chefs firing up food while dining, if you're at a table right next to it it gets pretty warm and you're basically next to a ton of wait staff running in and out of the kitchen so it's noisier. Go for a table further from the kitchen if you would mind these aspects. Overall, was a great place to eat after traveling all day coming hungry off of a long flight and made for a nice memory of kickoff during our stay in Austin. read more

Rodeo, ranch, western cowboy, all words that come to mind when I think about this place. The theme start at the entrance and takes over the menu. My first thought was "oh I didn't know I needed to wear my Cowboy Carter outfit to dinner. Everyone from workers to customers were wearing the same cowboy attire. It was cute but a bit overwhelming. The place is huge, we sat upstairs (nice view by the window. The menu. Is typical steak house food but it has a twist of Tex Mex. I got the grilled meatloaf and it was interesting. I am not sure what meat they use but it was not good. I tried it with the salsa it came with and still nothing. The cilantro rice was a crunchy and the glazed carrots were super had )one flew across the table while trying to cut it. I had green beans and even with the bacon...no flavor. The table got bison tacos and pork bites, both appetizers were delicious! I could order the tacos as a meal. The steak was good and the red fish was delicious. Again the menu is typical steak house food but for the price I think I'd stick to the basics. The Tex Mex flare threw me off on many dishes and turned me away from ordering. The staff was excellent and food came out as quickly as it would with the amount of customers. I'd recommend parking at the pink garage and taking the walk. I had a pretty disappointing experience at Haywire today. I brought my girlfriend in, and after putting our name on the waitlist, the host told us it would be about 15-20 minutes. After waiting around 40 minutes, I went back inside to check and was told we would be seated next. We then waited another 20 minutes before I finally walked back in and stood near the host stand until we were seated. Once we were taken to our table, we were put in a small back room that honestly felt more like a meeting room than part of the restaurant. There was a TV set up in the room, and a broom and dustpan were sitting right next to our table. What made it more frustrating was that we had walked past several empty tables on the way there after waiting over an hour. The food itself was fantastic, and that was definitely the highlight of the visit. I also want to give credit to the gentleman in the cowboy hat who came into the room and made the space feel more like an actual restaurant. He noticed the cleaning supplies next to us and removed them, which I really appreciated because it showed he cared about the guest experience. Unfortunately, the service after we were seated was lacking. We barely saw our waitress. I had to go to the bar myself to get my girlfriend some ice, and later had to ask a busser to help get our waitress so we could order another drink. I also had to ask for a steak knife after trying to cut a $50 steak with a butter knife. This was not our first time at Haywire, and we have had exceptional experiences here before, which is why this visit was so disappointing. Overall, we felt pushed aside and ignored, and honestly it felt like we may have been judged because of our age. If it weren't for the outstanding food and the gentleman who clearly cared enough to step in, this would have been a much worse experience. My wife and I were staying the night at The Domain, and knew that Haywire had recently opened, so we decided to book a table for the evening. On entry it's obvious there's a heavy Western theme. There's cow hide on the chairs, some of the servers were in cowboy hats and wranglers, longhorn's hung on the wall...the whole nine. The unusual thing about the décor, is that there's also shelves holding bits of old technology, books and toys. The external black brick and shaded yellow accent lights is a color theme I like a lot....looks very slick. The overall look is slick, with a casual yet stylistic atmosphere with nice mood lighting. Anyways, on to the food! We started with the Crispy Pork Belly Bites...they were good. The sweet honey glaze, pickled fresnos and charred mandarins give it a sweet, tasty and smoky flavor. For my main, I had the bone-in cowboy ribeye with charred broccolini. I asked for medium rare, but it came out more medium and I wasn't that keen on the broccolini. My wife went with the petite filet and tallow fries....the fries were really nice. We used to cook our "chips" in beef dripping back in the day as a kid in England, which is essentially what beef tallow is. I finished off with the Whiskey Bread Pudding, which is made with crossiants and topped with caramel sauce, cinnamon sugar and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. VERY NICE!!! Everything is sourced locally, too. Service was fast and friendly, so I can't fault them there either. It's not cheap, though. Price-wise, it's between Paul Martin's and Perry's Steakhouse. I ordered the Chef's Favorite, which was amazing--it came with tacos, chips and queso, wings, and fried green tomatoes, and every item on the plate was really tasty. One thing to note is that the lunch and dinner menus are a bit different, so it's worth checking which menu you're going for depending on the time of day. Unfortunately, even though it was lunchtime and the restaurant wasn't very busy, the food took quite a while to come out. That was the only downside to an otherwise good meal. With a little improvement on timing, this would easily be a great lunch spot. read more

Stumbled on Haywire while looking for a lunch spot--we came for the Thursday prime rib sandwich and are so glad we did! First, the place looks so upscale but the menu and prices are approachable. The atmosphere is gorgeous with cute Texas detail--the kitchen area is open and looks so beautiful! Our waitress was amazing and gave us strong recommendations and they were able to make accommodations for allergies with no issues. This is one of those places that you could come to again with a group and everyone can find something. The Mac and cheese was homemade tasting and everything felt high quality. Haywire is located on 11501 Rock Rose Ave Ste100 off Esperanza Corssing in the Domain. It's so new it's not even posted on the Domains website as of yet. A much needed change in the RockRose area from the typical repeats of pastries salads and alcohol establishments. Haywire hits all checkmarks for an outstanding dining experience with an unmistakably Texas twist. Cowboy chic Austin formal whatever it is I'm excited it's here. This isn't your typical so so restaurant, every single item we tasted was delicious and well thought out by the culinary team. Sauces complimented nicely with the items they were paired with, everything was seasoned well and everything was cohesive and didn't leave me wondering what the theme was. No randomly paired mishmash's of food (played out fusion failures ) I see so much of when a restaurant is trying to hard to be many different things all at once. I personally got the Thursday special which is a giant prime rib sandwich that was well balanced with sauces and peppers to cut through the richness of the prime rib and beef tallow fries. My kids got a delicious looking burger and grilled cheese and we all shared the Chef's "Favorite 4" consisting of queso blanco, branding iron onion rings, mini elk tacos, fried green tomatoes! I loved everything in this appetizer sampler and highly recommend getting it because it covers half the items on the appetizer menu but is significantly cheaper to order as a sampler. The elk tacos were my favorite and the onion rings are enough to have one and be full they are so big . As I mentioned the sauces that were paired with the chefs favorite 4 really complimented the fried green tomatoes and other items perfectly. As for the queso pshh it's just out of this world gooey and addictive and also my kids want it as their meal item instead of anything else the next time we visit apparently. Not your typical yellow valveta Austin cheap queso which isn't bad when you're tossing back beers and bbq but this queso is stepped up a notch done with real quality cheese. Our service was also outstanding our waitress was extremely attentive and made sure we had a wonderful first experience. She saw that our 6 month old was being fussy and made sure to get our food to us as soon as it hit the expo station. She was cheerful kind hospitable and really a great example of how to welcome a customer so that they want to return. Haywire's service and amazing food is perfect recipe for a winning restaurant ! Hopefully they continue to maintain this service and food quality and don't compromise when they get comfortable down the road like so many places do before they wonder why they have to close . My only one critique that was an absolute nightmare was to find parking to get to Haywire. It is absolutely the biggest headache especially when the Domain is full. Both parking garages were completely full no parking available on RockRose so I had to park at some apartments down the street on Esperanza Crossing after driving around for 10 min hoping someone would leave the boring garages. I'm torn on my rating as the service was great; however, they were out of literally every single item for brunch at noon on a Sunday, which is ridiculous. This was our first time here at haywire and man they made it an amazing dynamic experience. Our server Alexandria was charming, witty, and gave us the number of recommendations along with modifying some of our drinks that I thought would be too spicy. We went with the traditional ranch hand breakfast (we were there for brunch) and the Barbados grilled cheese with tallo fries, both of which were amazing. We paired that with mimosas with prickly pear, alcohol and OG bloody Mary. Well, the entire experience was amazing.
