I wanted to share a disappointing experience I had at this salon yesterday. I came in for a consultation, and right from the start I knew this was not going to go well. There was one other woman waiting, and when the stylist called out my name, instead of looking at the both of us, she only looked at the other woman, who was white. It appeared that she was hoping that was her client, instead of me, a minority. When I sat in her chair, I explained what I was wanting to have done. I stated that I know my hair is damaged, and has breakage, as I didn't want to hear any comments. She still pointed this out and also said right away that my hair was too light for me. Now I had my hair done like this on purpose because I wanted this color, it was not a high school experiment gone wrong. I tried to downplay her comment by stating that I know not everyone likes this color, but I love it. She then paused and said condescendingly, well, if you like it that's all that matters. I should have got up and walked out after that, but unfortunately I stayed. I explained to her that I have had balayages done for the last eight years by only two stylists. The last time I saw my regular stylist I had all my hair lightened for the first time. She apparently still wasn't listening to me,and said, oh this isn't a balayage. Ok, I had already said that my last appointment I had all my hair lightened, but whatever. I then explained that when I have my balayages done, it takes the stylists anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, mostly because of the foils and the lift. She seemed like she didn't believe me, or that I was making this up, or that the professional stylists I had seen didn't know what they were doing. So she suggested to do a small part of my hair to see how long it would take. I think she really wanted to do this to prove me wrong and that she was right.  After she sat me under the dryer, I was getting more and more heated, literally and figuratively, she checked back after 5 minutes. I said I would be shocked if it would be this color already. She said she was checking it, but that it was lifting. She checked back two more times, and took a picture to show it did lift, not to the color that I wanted, but to show it didn't take as much time. I guess the combined 60 years of experience that the two stylists I had been seeing meant nothing, and she knew everything. When I got back to the chair, she showed me other options for my hair. At his point, I just wanted to walk out. But I understand that's how it is with her generation, entitled and that they are right about everything. Towards the end, she kept asking if I had any questions, and I just said no. But in my head, my answer was no, because I know everything I need to know about you. read more

A review for stylist Libby Sirius at Haven... If you're unhappy with your hair, Libby is my top choice in Seattle stylists to make you happy! For over a year I have seen her exclusively for haircuts, colors and treatments. From the moment you enter her salon until you leave, you have her exclusive attention, and she asks many questions before she begins. Every time I see her I leave happier and my hair has a special bounce to it. Her specialty is color. She works to achieve the exact shade of whatever colors you choose, and applies them in such a manner to give you your "dream hair". I was highly impressed when I asked for red and green hair, and my bangs came out red with a perfect fan of green through them. It was exactly what I'd hoped for! I've since returned to red and love the shades and highlights she puts in. She also recently became aware of a new straightening product. I was very much against hair straightening until she offered to test this product on my hair, at a discount as it was her first time using it, to see what happened. My humidity frizzy, curly hair has always been awkward to style, and most of the time gets pulled up and out of the way. Her treatment had no formaldehyde or other scary chemicals. It was a quick process and left my hair feeling straight, shiny and strong. The treatment removed the damaged ends that I normally would have trimmed, as well as strengthened hair that gets dyed frequently. The thing to remember with Libby is that she genuinely cares about you and your hair. If you want somebody who doesn't listen, cuts blindly, colors poorly and rushes their job, this isn't the person for you. Service Requested: Nancy Caday cuts my hair, and she has done so for many years. I wouldn't even think of going to anyone else for a haircut. I'm one of those people who goes several months between haircuts, and I go back and forth between getting a shorter haircut vs leaving it longish. Plus I have less and less hair as the years go by, so that's an additional challenge for Nancy. But Nancy never fails to give me a fantastic haircut every time. Quality: Did I mention yet that Nancy gives me a fantastic haircut every time? It's true! The best haircuts in Seattle are to be obtained from Nancy Caday, in my opinion. Alia G. at Haven salon is by far the BEST hair stylist I have ever encountered! I met her about 3 years ago and refuse to see anyone else. My hair is thick and curly, but that doesn't stop Alia from pulling off easy, fun, stylish hair-do's for me! She's even able to cut my hair in a way so I have the option of wearing it curly OR straight! (if you have curly hair, you know how difficult this can be for some stylist). But Alia's excellence doesn't stop at cutting, she's super with color as well. I've done everything from blonde, to electric red, to purple highlights in my hair and every single time it has looked fantastic! Everywhere I go I have people ask me "who does your hair"...even some of my co-workers now drive over 60 miles round-trip just to have Alia do their hair!! She's that good! SARAH KAHN IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR!! SERIOUSLY. THIS GIRL IS AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE OF MAKEOVER MAGIC. I have been a loyal fan of Sarah since her hair school days and have ALWAYS regretted straying from her scissors. Sarah truly makes an effort to get to know your hair and how it affects both your face and your feelings. She is a superb listener and offers fantastic style insight when you ask, which I always do because let's face it - I'm not the one making people more attractive by the hour! I went to Haven Salon for the first time on 12/10/20. I had a tragic "trim" cut, the previous week, from somewhere else. I was a having a meltdown when I arrived, pretty much all I could do was cry & ask her to help the wreckage that was on my head, as there was very little left to work with. Tara was so kind & understood exactly how to fix my hair & shaped it beautifully, so it will grow back the way I want it to. I can't say enough about Tara's skill & ability, not only with curly hair, but also at calming my hysteria. If it weren't for "covid safety", I would've hugged her for the transformation she did to my hair! Thank you Tara for pulling me out of a REALLY dark place with your talent. Also the salon is very nice, they have padded shampoo bowls, so no more bruised occipital bones & sore neck. read more

Book with Erin Alice - she rules! I just saw her last weekend for my second ever Deva cut. I initially cut off 8 inches of hair and she did her magic to make a short curly haircut fit my face. I was pretty terrified at first but she walked me through the Deva curl products and styling routine. Life changed. She is also an excellent colorist. I have dark brown hair but have been doing a balayage for a few years. She is really great about blending the new color and making sure the blonde doesn't get orange or brassy. I am able to bring in a few pictures and she is able to give me exactly what I want. Absolute hair genie! She is also a joy to talk to. Very interesting and personable. Cannot give her enough praise! Book with her as far in advance as you can as she has a limited schedule. So worth it! read more

Haven is a great boutique neighborhood salon, nestled on the quiet part of Ballard! The salon has been open 5 years. This place is super relaxing & comfortable. Over the years they have displayed art from local artist. I have not been a fan of some of the displays, but at-least they support local artists. The hairstylist at Haven all seem to have a specialty, which is so cool & unique for a smaller salon. Their salon is full of veteran stylist with years of experience, & they know their craft delivering amazing results time & time again! Another fantastic experience with Kimberly Stewart at Haven Salon in Ballard! I First went to KImberly after she kindly donated a hair color and cut to my friend's charity auction. I always go into a salon with a vague idea of what I'm looking for, but always hoping for some creative contributions from my stylist. I couldn't have asked for a better source than KImberly! She has taken me from Blonde to brown to black and now lightening it up again with some STUNNING highlights last night. She is absolutely masterful at her craft and clearly loves what she does and is devoted to creating pleasing results. Can't wait to go back in 8 weeks to see what she does next! I had been getting highlights with another stylist for a while now. They were good, but just not exactly what I wanted. I live near Haven and thought I would try it. I am really happy I did. Tara knew exactly what I was looking for with my color, even though I did a terrible job explaining. "I want it to be the color it was when I was a kid," is not exactly specific, but they came out exactly like I wanted. We went for a big change with the haircut and it was great. I got so so many compliments at work the next day. Tara even called me the next afternoon to make sure I was happy, since the cut was a big change, and that really showed me how she cared. Crysdian performed a miracle on my hair today!!! After getting several bad haircuts and color jobs I decided to give Haven a shot. It is close to where I live and parking is a cinch boy was that a wise decision. My color is fabulous, Crysdian used several different colors creating a natural look and it is shiny!!! My hair is so thick stylists usually don't cut enough and in a week after I get a cut it looks like I need another one-it is so frustrating. Crysdian is the exception, he got in there and created depth by cutting lots of great layers. I am thrilled with my new 'do. Also, the space is very cool with a great garden in the back-can't wait for Summer appointments! read more

Ive been following Sarah Kahn, since she started her training at Gene Juarez N.Gate, 5 years ago. Ive gone to her off and on, because as she's moved up in level her haircuts got more expensive and I am pretty cheap. Eventually I have come to the conclusion that she holds a professional standard - its respectable.. and I cant convince her to cut my hair in her apt. anymore. Maybe just maybe 40-50 bucks every few months is worth my money! Well, it is and Im hooked now. My last cut was exactly what I wanted. It feels healthy, looks sexy and I fall in love with it more everyday. I'll see you in a 1-2 months for another one - Ive decided what you charge is worth it. read more

Fabulous hair at a reasonable price still exists. I've been going to see Alia at Haven for the past year and I've always been grateful for what she's done with my hair. She spends time washing your hair with a nice scalp massage, and never rushes through the cuts. I always walk away loving my hair. Alia really does a great job and she is one of the sweetest stylists I know. Although I have not had my hair cut from other staff members, I can say that they have all been really friendly and personable. The environment is welcoming and warm and they have a fabulous courtyard that is great for enjoying on those nice summer days. read more

About a month ago I want to Haven for the first time. Tara was my stylist and since I'd never seen her before I brought some pictures. I thought I explained clearly what I wanted. Apparently Tara wasn't listening because she cut it WAY TOO SHORT. And it was one of those situations where she had someone else getting a color at that same time. I could tell she was rushing through the cut so she'd finish in time to process the color on the other client. If I'm paying $50 for a haircut I pretty much expect undivided attention. Make an appointment with Liz!! For the past 5 years I have followed Liz to every salon she has worked at - I trust no one else to cut my hair! She always has great ideas for updating my otherwise basic haircut and good recommendations for hair products. She patiently listens to me try to explain what I want, and isn't afraid to make recommendations on styling and cutting. I have also had her style my rather unmanageable hair for several weddings, including my own, and it has always come out perfectly. She is very creative, has great ideas, and you always walk out of the salon looking great. read more

Not sure why Yelp keeps filtering my reviews. Posting my previous one again. I just had a haircut here and what a nice little place in the middle of Ballard. They even have a little garden which unfortunately probably only gets used for a couple of months in the year. My stylist Libby was great and took me in at short notice so I could get the style I wanted before my Vegas trip. They are a small neighbourhood salon so be prepared to wait if your stylist is running behind. But if you are tired of the salesy atmosphere and not knowing your stylist then this is a great place to read more

Alisha is an amazing hair stylist and always knows how to bring my requests to life! She is very personable and I always have a lot of fun when I sit in her chair. Alisha is very good at listening to important details when it comes to how she is cutting/coloring/styling my hair. But also makes me feel very relaxed and treats me like VIP. I will never go to any other stylist because Alisha is the only person I trust with my hair. Her pricing is very reasonable considering the quality of work she provides. Sarah Kahn is the ONE to go to! Sarah has been doing my hair for four years and after a lifetime of ho-hum hair, my hair finally looks great. Liz from Haven is my stylist, and she is amazing! I have been working with her for over three years now and followed her every salon she has been at in that time. I can't imagine having anyone else cut my hair! Not only is Liz very technically talented, she is also very pagtient and honest. I can often be a tough customer - indecisive and picky.
