Fun new eatery to check out, Hyderabadi cuisine! We grabbed lunch at Hashtag India in Milpitas and had a great experience overall. We ordered the Pachimirchi paneer, chicken tikka burger, veg puffs, garlic naan, street-style noodles, chai, and falooda, and every dish was flavorful and hit the spot. They are known for their very generous Mandi dish, which is a Yemeni dish that gained popularity in Hyderabad due to Yemeni immigrants. It's a combination of flavored rice and a variety of meats. The restaurant was super busy, which speaks to how popular it is, but the service was pretty slow & they were out of many food items as a result. The restaurant has regular seating and, in addition, cute closed booths where you can sit at a low table in the traditional Indian way. They also have some funky prison booths with handcuffs, etc. If you aren't in a massive rush, the food is definitely worth the wait for some solid Indian fusion and street-style favorites. I will be definitely going back to try their famous Mandi Ambiance: 10/10 Service: 8/10 Food: 10/10 Music: 10/10 Seating: indoor & privacy booths Parking: Ample, free parking available Price: $30-$50 per person

We feel like we're back in Hyderabad when we go to Hashtag. They specialize in Mandi and Irani chai. The Zafran chai is beautiful, with pieces of dried rose and saffron. Rich without being too heavy. Mandi is a Yemeni dish that gained popularity in Hyderabad due to Yemeni immigrants to the city. It's a combination of rice and meats. The flavors are more Arabian. Served with Yemeni schug, a green chutney, and tomato onion sauce. I tried fish Mandi and absolutely loved it. The rice was seasoned with hawaij and toasted raisins and almonds, and the fish was nicely crispy and covered in a sauce similar to tikka masala, very tasty. They have a few different kinds of delicious yellow dal that make a great accompaniment to Mandi -- spinach, tomato, mango pickle. The menu is very extensive, with a wide range of Telugu dishes. They have some fun little touches -- Mandi booths and a kitschy jail cell table, which apparently replicates a popular Mandi House in India. The service is very nice and welcoming.

We came here for the first time. Huge place and they have nice cute booths where you can sit at a low table traditional style. They also have some funky booths that represent prison cells. The ambience is overall exciting 5/5. We were surprised by the wide variety of dishes they serve. Biryani s, Mandis, Dosas, kebabs, chaat and many more. You name it and you can find it. We ordered Hariyali chicken and Chicken Fry Biryani. Hariyali Chicken was 4/5. It was nicely done, marinade was great. Enjoyed it. Chicken Fry Biryani was appetizing, served steaming hot, with fried chicken pieces. But the chicken was overfried, hard and had a lot of artificial color looks like, it looked super red. The biryani was not so much layered, so it was somewhere between biryani and pulao. I would still rate it 3/5. Would come back to try more on their menu.

Surprisingly good mandi with an Indian twist. We tried the mutton gravy mandi and it was absolutely amazing. The rice was flavorful and filled with nuts and raisins, which I really liked. For takeaway they give the meat and gravy in a separate container which kept the food from being soggy. The creamy gravy made this mandi a unique experience.

Me and my husband went to have dinner here on a weekday. I was a bit skeptical since they seem more trendy so they can be not so authentic but we were pleasantly surprised. My husband was looking forward to Mandi and Nali Ghosh. The food were amazing and come with large portion. For my Mandi, I was able to eat for 3 meals. I also love the baby corn and mushroom. The restaurant say they are self service but there are server that bring the food to you and clean up the table. You only need to get the utensil by yourself. If you want the floor sitting you would need to go when it is not so busy since everybody want those sitting and there are only a few cabin.

Been here around 3-4 times in the last 3 months with different group of friends, initially tried this place for the hype around. Tried Mandi 3x, the taste was different all 3x, the quality dripping from good to below avg. Folks who are trying for first time, watch out for the creaminess on Mandi. If you are true a Mandi fan, don't try Bahubali Mandi, the shrimp and fish are loaded with bread, which is too bad. The Nallakaram Chicken we tried multiple times, out of all times, 1x was bad with chicken being so hard (probably became dry). Their Falooda is a must try for first time. Most of the items in their menu is only one time try. For Fry piece chicken biryani, after finishing eating, you can see the food color like stuck on your hands, not sure if that is food color or what.

We picked up dinner here on New Year's Day. There was a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating at the restaurant, but it was quite loud inside as the place was fairly busy. We ended up ordering for takeout on this evening, service was sufficient, and it was about a 20-minute wait for our food. We got the hyderabadi mutton curry (spicy), butter chicken (mild), fire naan, and butter naan. The butter chicken dish had pretty sizable chunks of chicken inside, a little too large for my liking and on the dry side. But it was fine as there was plenty of sauce to make up for it. The hyderabadi mutton curry was tasty but not very spicy, even at the highest level of spice. The naan was thin but otherwise of standard quality. Overall, we had a satisfying meal.

Stopped by Hashtag in Milpitas and it was actually pretty good. The chicken mandi and nalli ghost mandi were both flavorful. The garlic gobi was crispy and tasty too, but the nalla karam gobi didn't really hit the mark for me and the pachi mirchi chicken was okay. From the mains, the kaju paneer was decent. I really liked the bullet naan and the goat curry was solid. Few misses but the good stuff really shines!

Paneer mandi
Iniyai T.

It's good food, but very specific Telugu taste. So if you like that, you will love this. Otherwise this might not be for you. We ordered the paneer mandi and the mushroom pepper fry. The paneer pieces were quite hard but the mushrooms were perfection. We also got a side of kothu parotta which was good but I would want to order something else next time because they have a super long menu. I have reduced a star because I felt that the food while good didn't seem specifically fresh to me. I think my friend also had a stomach ache but I was fine so can't really complain. The service is more than what they promise. They give you the food even though they call it self service. The ambience is good but not great. It is very clean and tidy though.

Tried Hashtag India Restaurant in Milpitas and honestly loved it! The place has such a fun vibe with their Arabian Mandi-style seating -- perfect for hanging out with friends or family. We ordered a mix of veg and non-veg appetizers -- Punugulu, Cut Mirchi, Hashtag Chicken, Guntur Kodi Vepudu, and everything was so flavorful and crispy! The highlight though was the Bahubali Mandi -- it's massive, delicious, and totally worth the hype. Ended our meal with Kesar Pista Falooda and Choco Caramel Falooda, both super refreshing and the perfect way to finish. The staff was really friendly, and I love that they're open late -- great spot for those late-night cravings!

First time coming here after hearing good reviews from people. Food: yummy . I found the stew to be a bit too oily. I liked the various flavors of the faloodeh dessert but it was sweet. Service: took time but that was understood since the dishes looked good. Ambiance: so cool and it felt like another world with the wallpapers . I liked seeing the 'jail' section but we were not able to sit there. The section we were sitting in was a 'sit down on the ground' experience. Cool !

Omg it was a nice ending to my dinner thank you

The restaurant is very interesting I came here with my husband and I love love love their GARLIC NAAN AND BUTTER CHICKEN ! It reminds my of my brother in law who passed away Deepu RIL bro my niece Davinah she half Samoan and half punjabi. Service was great the food was served right to us and they were fast. Ambiance was great as well the music was on point. Definitely a place to take your family when your craving curry or naan bread THANK YOU GUYS

The service was not great. The staff was rude. We had to wait for sooo long to get food. They asked us to get our own cutlery. There was extra charged to sit inside the booths in the mandi place. And the staff said if they take order then there would be 9% more charges. That's sad. The food was good but not great.

Big variety of buffet foods. All very fresh and flavorful, on the spicier side and a bit salty as expected. The standouts were all of the curries, there was butter chicken, egg curry, goat curry, chicken curry. The other items were all decent. Self serve chai tea tasted a bit watered down. Fresh dosa and plain naan were great and are included and brought to your table. A canned soda is included as well. Dirty dishes were cleared relatively quickly. Medium sized, clean restaurant. There was booths and regular tables of all sizes. Plenty of parking in the large shared parking lot. This ranks in my top 5 for Indian buffets on the bay area

I came across their non-vegetarian lunch combo, which comes with two curries, basmati rice, naan, raita, and even a gulab jamun for dessert! I love that it includes pretty much everything you could want in a meal. When ordering, you can choose between plain naan, butter naan, extra rice, or upgrade to garlic naan for an additional $1, which is what I went with. You also get to pick two curries, so I chose the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. Both were fantastic! I did notice the curries had a little more heat than most Indian restaurants I've tried. I personally love spicy food, so the extra kick didn't bother me at all. However, when I couldn't finish my meal and offered some to my daughter, she took a few bites and found it way too spicy for her. More for me, I guess! Since I was starving and didn't feel like waiting for delivery, I decided to pick up my order instead. When I arrived, the restaurant was packed! That's when I discovered they offer an everyday lunch buffet for $19.99, which even includes a can of soda or beer. Definitely something I need to come back and try! I actually enjoyed the food so much that I ordered the lunch combo again over the weekend! This time, I also added an order of saag paneer. I was hoping their vegetarian lunch combos would have saag or palak paneer as one of the curry options, but unfortunately, neither was available. I do wish they offered palak paneer instead of saag paneer, though, since that's my personal preference. If they did, I could honestly see myself ordering from here every week! Between the generous portions, delicious curries, complete lunch combo, and DoorDash discounts, I thought it was a great value. Everything I've tried so far has been really good, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to check out their lunch buffet!

Yelp knows me pretty well by now. It knows I like Indian food, so Vande Bharat kept popping up in…read moremy recommendations. It's been sitting there for a while, so the wifey and I finally decided to drive down to Milpitas and give this Thali place a try. I'm glad we did because their Thali is probably one of the best we've had, if not the best. FYI Thali is LUNCH only. Here is my take. Food (4.5 stars) +The Combo Thali for around $18 is the way to go. Don't overthink it and don't order anything else. You get a little bit of everything, which is exactly why we like Thali. If there's something you don't like, just give it to your partner. My wife doesn't like lamb, so I ended up with double lamb. Bonus for me! + Lamb curry was probably my favorite. Tender meat with a flavorful curry and it went perfectly with the rice. Since my wife donated hers to me, I had plenty! + Fried fish is also very good. You don't get a huge piece, but with so many other things on the plate, it's enough. That's the beauty of Thali--you get a few bites of everything instead of committing to one giant dish. + Chicken curry was also good. Nothing on the plate really needs to be eaten by itself because everything complements each other. You get savory, spicy, sour and even a little sweet throughout the meal. + There are also the usual Thali sides like dal, sumbar, yogurt, dessert and another sour/soupy dish. Rice sits right in the middle and you basically mix and match your way through the entire plate. + I also really like the papadum. It's that thin crispy Indian cracker that gives you a nice crunchy break between all the curries and softer foods. ~ PRO TIP: The only thing to consider is whether you prefer a Thali or an Indian buffet. At a buffet, you can essentially get many of these same types of dishes and eat as much as you want. With a Thali, you're getting smaller portions of everything. Personally, I like the variety and having everything served together, especially when the combo is only around $18. Service/Ambiance (4.5 stars) + We came during lunch and there was only one other customer while we were there, so service was good and the food came out rather quickly. + The restaurant has some really nice paintings along the walls. Some of the scenery almost looked Mediterranean to me, although I'm assuming they're depicting places somewhere in India. Either way, they add some character to the restaurant. + It's a comfortable, casual place to sit down and enjoy a Thali without much fuss. GET THE COMBO! You get fish, lamb, chicken, rice, dal, sides, dessert and all the little extras that make eating Thali fun. Between the two of us, if one person doesn't like something, the other person probably will. In my case, that strategy resulted in double lamb, so I definitely wasn't complaining. Wifey gives Vande Bharat 4.5 stars and I'm right there with her. For the price, variety and flavors, this is easily one of our favorite Thali meals we've had. Yelp got this recommendation right!

I never got there, but my husband raved about it from business dinners. Our birthday honoree wanted to come here. One of us is vegetarian, another GF and very allergic to solanaceae, and two don't eat fish. Usually Pakistani & eastern Asian cuisine is a good choice. Three of us had masala chai, served in traditional glazed clay cups: I think cardamom was the top note. Ginger's the top note, followed by cardamom when I make it. It was blissful. I have been wanting to try pani puri for a while, but don't think the delicate shells would survive delivery. Mouthgasms ensued from everyone. Next time I'm in an Indian restaurant, I'm getting that, as it was as tasty as it looks. Samosas were ordered to share, and again, we were all happy. Because of the high simple carbs, I don't eat the usual one, but half of one was heavenly. Garlic naan & papad(ums) were ordered. They were the most flavorful papad I've ever tasted: don't know what the additional ingredient was, but I will certainly order that again. I asked our server, who might have been a manager, how many papadums were in an order. The answer was three, but he'd add a fourth. It took us a while to choose entrees, and when we made our order, he looked at each of us, confirmed what we ordered--with no note pad. I was impressed. I had the achari chicken kebab, absolutely wonderful spicing, with plenty of onion strips, nicely browned just short of caramelized. Our vegetarian ordered saag paneer, the honoree had her favorite butter chicken, and the fourth ordered seekh kebab. We usually get a taste of each other's dishes, except the vegetarian, because meat. We were very appreciative and enthusiastic of what we'd ordered. We couldn't have made our enjoyment more clear. For dessert, we ordered an intense Malai (mango) kulfi, gulab jamun (dough balls in a honey sauce), too sweet for me, but still pleasant, and rasmalai, a sweet dough in a milky sauce, spiced with saffron, rosewater, cardamom, and pistachios. We were treated to a plate of jalebi, which resembles funnel cakes, in a honey sauce. I've seen these at a Persian market, but don't know the name. For all we ordered, the bill was modest, about $114. We added an ample tip. This was the absolute best Indian food I've ever had! We had such a lovely time. One thing I wish restaurants would do is to put their full menu online, instead of just popular items for delivery or pick-up. It gives you more incentives to dine in!

Indian Canteen, Milpitas -- A Bollywood-Style Feast Worth the Wait…read more Ambience & Vibe Walk in and you're greeted by a wall-to-wall tribute to Bollywood--bright movie posters, upbeat Hindi tunes, and on weekend nights, live musicians who turn the dining room into a mini film-set concert. Traditional low tables invite you to kick off your shoes and settle onto floor cushions, instantly adding a cozy, almost homestyle feel. What We Ordered * Chicken Mandi - A show-stopping platter of fragrant basmati rice crowned with perfectly roasted chicken. The portion is generous (see photo!) and the spice profile leans savory-warm rather than tongue-scorching, so everyone at the table can dig in. * Mutton Curry - I rarely gamble on mutton when eating out, but this one converted me. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a rich, slow-cooked gravy that balanced heat with a gentle hint of clove and cardamom. Absolutely outstanding. Service & Pace There's a sign at the entrance: "This is not fast food. Great taste takes time." Believe it. Dishes are cooked to order, so expect a leisurely wait. The staff checks in just enough to keep you updated, and once the platters hit the table you'll agree the patience tax is totally justified. Pro Tips 1. Go with friends--the mandi platter is made for sharing. 2. Weekends mean live music; arrive a bit early if you want prime floor-seat real estate. 3. Plan for 20-30 minutes from order to first bite; use the time to soak in the music and décor. Bottom Line Indian Canteen's mix of Bollywood flair, floor seating, and from-scratch cooking turns dinner into an experience.
