Veg Thali
Rakesh L.

We went right before peak rush started so managed to get our food on time without waiting too long. Service was your average run of the mill Indian joint service. We ordered the South Indian veggie thali. Overall, we taste was a bit on the spicier side but not overwhelming. However, all the curries had a lot of gravy and few veggies. Apparently that's the norm since the curries are usually mixed and eaten with rice, but I would have liked more veggies. It's worth a drop in if you're in that neck of the woods

We came here on Saturday for dinner and there was no wait for a party of 5. The restaurant is super spacious and clean. It also smelled really good in the restaurant, so it made me excited for dinner. We ordered a bunch of food. My faves were the chicken lollipops, dosas, garlic naan and butter chicken. The butter chicken was super tasty and it had a kick to it. The naan was my absolute fave. I went so good with everything that we ate. Service was great and friendly. He kept coming back to check on us and made sure our water glasses were never empty.

Ordered these items but was surprised to see there was a $10 charge when you pay in person. IG: thefoodhigh

Looks like this spot took over the Dish Dash restaurant location. I wanted to try a new (South) Indian spot and decided to order to go. I used the app they had to get my order ready for when I order over the phone. I was surprised to see the $10 price difference when paying in person. I didn't question it but is usually the other way around when it comes to pricing. Overall customer service for their to-go were good and so was the time estimation of the food being ready. I ordered on a Sunday around noon and the food was ready in about 20 minutes. Though I was only inside for a few minutes to pay and pick-up the food, it looked clean and spacious. The dishes ordered were in the photo below. Majority of the dishes were a bit tangy but still tasty! My highlights would be the Andhra style chicken 65 and the parotta and chicken curry. The fish was good but felt it had too much masala. Both biriyanis were pretty solid in terms of flavor. I just wish there were more pieces. The goat one was mainly bones and the chicken biriyani could've used more pieces. I'll come back and definitely try a few other items on their menu. "High on Life. Fish Mini Thali (lunch)
Bindu A.

Our first time coming to the restaurant and what better way to find out their best dishes than to have a thali and sample some of their dishes. The place is huge and very inviting! Fast service as well. We enjoyed the food a lot. We ordered a Veg mini thali and Fish mini thali. The portion sizes were more than enough even though they call it mini thali. Each thali came with rice, chapati, dal, vegetable fry(cabbage poriyal), dessert(Double-ka-meetha), Papad. Veg thali had an additional vegetable kurma and rasam. Fish thali had a fish curry. The fish had the bones in. I prefer it that way in that type of curry. The spices were just perfect. Spicy enough to enjoy the flavors but not too much that is drown down the taste. The chapati that came with the thali was super super soft! Although it had a lot of ghee, it was nice to indulge. The dessert definitely was yummy, but the amount of ghee/oil was execessive. The bread chunks were literally floating. Overall super thali! Coming back to try more of their food.

Order Jigarthanda now! It inspired me to visit Madurai for this dessert.

Namma Restaurant, tucked into a strip mall (yes, there's actual parking - score!), is spacious and bright once you step inside. We were seated quickly, table nicely set and ready for action. Now, the menu - it's an adventure into Tamilian cuisine! A little heads-up: if you're not from Tamil Nadu (like me!), you might find yourself playing 'Guess That Dish.' A few more descriptions next to each dish would be super helpful, or just be brave and ask your server to be your culinary guide! Our chicken and mutton, appetizers arrived promptly, which was great. Though, they were delivered with an air of delicious mystery - a quick 'this is X and this is Y' would've been appreciated, so we knew what delights we were about to devour! Portions are generous, definitely enough for two to share. The star of our show was the Nei (Ghee) Dosa - perfectly crispy and served with some seriously tasty chutney and Sambar. Yum! After we'd polished off our mains, things got a bit interesting. A server did a partial plate-clearing magic trick, making some disappear while others remained, perhaps as mementos of our meal? We eventually flagged down a friendly busser to fully clear the decks so we could contemplate dessert, Madurai delicacy - Jigarthanda. It's these little service touches that can really take a meal from 'good' to 'wow, we HAVE to come back and bring everyone we know!' Oh, and a shout-out to the unique, house-made mouth freshener by the exit! Another delicious mystery - we'd love to know what's in it! Bottom line: The food here is genuinely delicious, with unique Tamilian dishes you won't find everywhere. Definitely give it a try, maybe ask lots of questions, and enjoy the tasty ride!

I was super excited to try this place since it had great reviews and the menu looked pretty good. You know the food is good when the menu has some complicated names you can't even pronounce. I'm always on the look out for a good Indian food and I wasn't disappointed. It was spicyyy, let me tell you that much. And the good kind of spicy. The vegetarian biryani I ordered was good but it had some sweetness to it which I wasn't a fan of. We ordered the garlic and chilly soup which cleared all my sinuses lol It was delicious but they warn you, it's spicy! I really enjoyed it. And we also got the chicken fry (had a fancy name, can't remember it now) with coconut pieces, it tasted crisp and delicious. Very flavorful. Overall, I wanna go again so I can try everything in the menu haha They had a lot of seating even at the back, they closed few out cuz we went pretty late. The ambiance is pretty decent. Service was a bit slow but the staff was friendly, they told you about exactly how spicy each dish is and made some good suggestions.

Chicken kothu parotta
Poojitha S.

Want to give a 3.5 rating. I wasn't very impressed with the veg dishes. Ordered stuffed mirchi bajji which was okay ( too many raw onions stuffed inside) . Then got methi chamman with naan. The curry was apparently made with koya and cream. It was on the sweeter side and I didn't like it. Naan on the other hand was exceptional. But husband ordered chicken kothu parrota which came with a side of dalcha and that looked amazing. He loved the dish and dalcha as well. Might come back for non vegetarian dishes alone. Service was quick and ambiance was quite nice. Lots of parking available.

Palapalayam chicken

Large restaurant, great ambiance, clean setup and quick service. This is a South Indian restaurant specializing specifically in cuisine from Tamil Nadu. Dishes are fiery with an extensive use of varied spices. We got- Namma veetu chicken biryani-4.5/5- this was like a warm hug in a bowl. Rice was moist and not too dry, use of spices was perfect without any single spice overpowering the rest. It was delicious. Chicken was soft and well cooked. Palapalayam chicken- (4/5)- named after a village in Tamil Nadu. It's pan fried chicken with bits of coconut. It was interesting to eat chicken with coconut in that form. Coconut was not overpowering and tasted harmonious with the chicken. Naatu kozhi milagu charu-3.5/5: this was in the soup menu. It's a fiery bowl of chicken soup with a thin base and liberal use of pepper. It's not like regular soup, we typically have it with rice. Chicken kothu paratha -3/5: this was in their daily special menu. It's essentially bits of paratha stir fried with some spices, veggies and proteins. It was just heavy and was difficult to eat more than a few spoons.

Veg Virandu, today's special

After a movie, my husband and I were hungry for lunch and decided to check out Namma Restaurant in Milpitas, which looked fairly new. We were originally craving dosa, but the lunch menu focused on thalis - vegetarian, chicken, fish, and goat Virundu feasts. Dosa was only served in the evenings. I opted for the vegetarian Virundu, and my husband got the fish Virundu. My thali was overflowing with delicious vegetarian dishes, masala rice, plain rice, roti, papadam, yogurt, chutney, pickle, and more! It even included two desserts: pineapple kesari and halwa. It was almost too much food! My husband enjoyed his fish Virundu as well. We realized that the cuisine was a mix of Kerala and Tamil Nadu styles. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at Namma. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious and plentiful. We didn't have to wait for a table, but it started getting busy as we were leaving. They also offer convenient electronic payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay. If you're looking for a tasty and satisfying South Indian meal, I highly recommend giving Namma Restaurant a try. They have a great variety of dishes, including parotta and veg/non-veg curries

The food here is amazing, really enjoyed the authentic Veetu biryani and pacha milaga. Amazing taste on Pacha Milaga Chinna vengayam kozhi varuval (Green chilli with shallots fried chicken), a must try non-veg appetizer. The quality of the food is very good and enjoyed the food taste here. They serve in good quantity as well, a appetizer and main course should be good for two people. The service is quick and ask the waiter for day specials and best dishes. The experience of trying Elaneer Payasam was good taste feeling. Recommend this place for sure. Will try to come this place again for sure to try other dishes.

Methi Chamman
Sahridaya N.

Gosh, the food here is simply fantastic!!! We tried a whole bunch of stuff and everything was perfect and just so delicious. We tried Pallipalayam Paneer for the first time - it was very spicy & tangy and I absolutely loved it. For main course, we ordered Garlic naan, Fire chilli naan, Methi chamman & Veg Kothu parotta all of which were amazing! The naans were huge and methi chamman was a creamy, dreamy side dish that we devoured. Kothu parotta was perfectly spiced and soft with raitha & salna as accompaniments. The service too was just as good as the food if not better! Overall, it was such a great dining experience that I'd love to come back to.

Weekday buffet was not as packed and i infact saw a huge corporate team gathered for lunch. ***FOOD: doesn't feel like a luxurious buffet due to lack of space but they did have a decent spread with 3-4 veggie appetizers, 3-4 non veg appetizers, 4-5 desserts, Pani puri, fresh table side naan (which was done very beautifully), two varieties of biryani, fried rice, indo Chinese items, 3-4 varieties of non veg curries, 3-4 varieties of veg curries, salad, drinks etc. As with any buffet there will be hits and misses, I for one enjoyed the varied options and the unlimited Pani puri though it was on the sweeter side. The weekend buffet was definitely worth the price tag of $23, the weekday buffet on the other day felt expensive at $20 as the number of items were significantly lower.

Indian Canteen, Milpitas -- A Bollywood-Style Feast Worth the Wait…read more Ambience & Vibe Walk in and you're greeted by a wall-to-wall tribute to Bollywood--bright movie posters, upbeat Hindi tunes, and on weekend nights, live musicians who turn the dining room into a mini film-set concert. Traditional low tables invite you to kick off your shoes and settle onto floor cushions, instantly adding a cozy, almost homestyle feel. What We Ordered * Chicken Mandi - A show-stopping platter of fragrant basmati rice crowned with perfectly roasted chicken. The portion is generous (see photo!) and the spice profile leans savory-warm rather than tongue-scorching, so everyone at the table can dig in. * Mutton Curry - I rarely gamble on mutton when eating out, but this one converted me. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a rich, slow-cooked gravy that balanced heat with a gentle hint of clove and cardamom. Absolutely outstanding. Service & Pace There's a sign at the entrance: "This is not fast food. Great taste takes time." Believe it. Dishes are cooked to order, so expect a leisurely wait. The staff checks in just enough to keep you updated, and once the platters hit the table you'll agree the patience tax is totally justified. Pro Tips 1. Go with friends--the mandi platter is made for sharing. 2. Weekends mean live music; arrive a bit early if you want prime floor-seat real estate. 3. Plan for 20-30 minutes from order to first bite; use the time to soak in the music and décor. Bottom Line Indian Canteen's mix of Bollywood flair, floor seating, and from-scratch cooking turns dinner into an experience. If you're craving authentic mandi and a mutton curry , mark this spot on your Milpitas food map--and don't forget to bring your patience and your camera.

Given all of this, the expectation of tipping feels a bit confusing. That said, we came here for the food--and it truly delivered. My husband is Bengali and was craving authentic Bengali food, so we decided to try this place over the weekend, and we absolutely loved it. We started with the mutton (goat) cutlet and Mughlai paratha. The mutton cutlet was adequately stuffed, fried crispy to perfection, and tasted really good. The Mughlai paratha by itself was just okay, but when paired with the aloo tarkari (potato curry) it became an instant hit. For the main course, we ordered chicken chow mein and Katla fish curry with white rice, and both dishes truly transported us straight to Kolkata. The flavors were incredibly authentic, homely, and comforting--exactly the kind of food you crave when you miss home.
