I have eaten here a few times. Very tasty meal options! The reason I give this place one star is due to the lack of respectful service. I feel like you have to be a man to get proper service . Unfortunately the servers seem to be driven to flirting than actually keeping long term guest. I Also feel that if you are of color you don't get the Respect desired. I ate the same sandwich here a year ago for $21, I understand inflation but that is ridiculous, not putting the price on the menu and putting market value is just a nice way of ripping people off. I ordered a Mimosa and my glass came out with a lipstick stain. Happened to drive past this place and recognized the name from my RAD Card list. Had my dog with me so I called to see if the outside area was pet friendly and it is so I decided to try it out! Went on a Saturday morning at around 10:30am and the service was amazing, very fast & friendly. The vibe of the place is really comfortable, laid back, welcoming and also fun. I ordered the blueberry pancakes which came with eggs and bacon (or sausage) and the serving size was HUGE. I had heard good things and was eager to try. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed in my French Dip sandwich with garlic fries. It appeared the ingredients were of decent quality, but the sandwich was not seasoned and the bun was unappetizingly gummy. I never expect delivered fries to taste fresh and crisp, but garlic fries should be tossed with the seasoning. I received a couple discreet clumps plopped on top of my fries. I honestly don't even want to give this place a star at all. My sister and I brought our kids into have lunch after visiting the farmers market. We walked in and the owner literally just looked at us and said nothing. He left us standing there looking around then said, without even looking at us or even saying, "hello" or "welcome in" he finally says "you guys can sit here" then I asked if we can sit out side since we had 3 children with us and he just said "sure" we sat down for another 10 minutes and watched him greet 3 other customers warmly!! He then remembered to drop menus off without explaining how to even use it ( scan barcode ). He didn't even drop waters off.. so I told my sister I wanted to leave that this man was so rude. We (2 people) came on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. It was busy, but not busy enough to justify not being greeted upon coming in the door. That's the only reason I would say 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, the person who seated us after a few minutes was bubbly and welcoming, and our server was attentive enough. The food was great, and I personally enjoy the dark paint and cozy atmosphere. As mentioned in another review the side of mixed fruit was fresh and flavorful. I went for lunch last week for the first time since switching owners. A crab toss and soda, before tip, was $41. Overpriced dinner menu for lunch. They also keep silverware in bulk on the table in a closed bottom caddy now. When I pulled all of the knives out, one had a ball of lint stuck to it. Not to mention customers can do whatever they want to the silverware and just put it back. I was curious and now I'm not. I have NEVER had anyone speak to me this way ... especially the owner of a restaurant!! We simply asked for the fan directly above us to be turned off while we ate. The bartender (self proclaimed owner) snapped at the server who asked for us and said "No I will not turn off the fan". Then, without any remorse or knowledge of the fact that my friend just went through radiation (therefore easily cold) she looked at me asked if I had a problem. So I spoke up and asked yet again for the fan to be turned off. Again, she proceeded to tell me she was the owner. Called us 'Karen #1 & Karen #2! You're calling names to your patrons who simply want to be comfortable while eating their meal!?!?!? So, the vibe here has completely changed. The owner gets drunk daily behind the bar. It's so unfortunate that she is taking this staple of Modesto and turning it upside down. The only thing good was the food. Which she refused to allow us to stay long enough to finish it or to pay for it and told us to please leave or she was calling MPD..... All so that she could continue to party. In my opinion, extremely unprofessional, rude and disrespectful. She has no clue about the service industry. I have ordered here from Doordash and the food was decently good. I was excited to actually be able to sit down and try their food..until today. Hostess or owner (not sure if she owns the place) is a very rude person, I believe her name is Jessie. Does not know how to interact with people in front of a restaurant full of customers. She embarrassed herself and the restaurant by the way she rudely treats others. If I was the owner I would have fired her a long time ago based on all the negative reviews. We enjoy the food here. It's fresh has a good variety and comes out pretty quickly. Also like the drink menu. BUT the snobby hostess/owner is a huge turn off. I'm convinced she is racist because as soon as she sees "us" coming, she turns around EVERY SINGLE TIME and finds something to do. Eat here if you enjoy that feeling you get when you're at your ex's place to pick up your belongings but they have a new love interest over. I really want to love Harvest Moon for their crab toss salad. Other items on the menu are pretty standard, but this crab salad is excellent. In fact, I love this salad so much, that I frequent this spot, lure friends here and even order for take-out at least once every couple of weeks. The reason I'm compelled to leave this message is to provide some constructive criticism to the owner and staff about how you treat people. I've been coming here frequently and ordering pick-up consistently over the last three years and although I've never been blown away by the customer service, it's been "okay." Today, however, I called in because Postmates didn't have the salad listed, but they did have another salad with prawn and crab on the menu, so I wanted to see if it was the same. Whoever answered seemed like the owner because they said, "I don't have anything to do with those delivery services because I don't have a deal with them." and told me to call them if I wanted to use them. Okay fair enough if you don't use any delivery services, but the delivery of the message made me feel like he was annoyed and couldn't be bothered with such a question. He did not offer me any other solutions but he just went on and on explaining to me that he doesn't have any connection with them. Okay, thanks. More mansplaining. I understand, point taken. I did try to contact Postmates, but that option is only for merchants. After a little bit of legwork, I decided to call it in. The person who took my call seemed surprised/annoyed that I was placing an order 30 min before closing time (I guess I am kind of a jerk for that right? I guess the unspoken rule is to dine in and/or order out one-hour pre-close?) So I get there and everyone is vacuuming, the open sign is up and there are still people at the bar having a glass of wine and lunch. One person arrived and joined them. I waited, no one greeted me. One person was vacuuming two were in the kitchen and one came from the back, didn't acknowledge me, but went to the register and proceeded to print my bill, chat up the person vacuuming, grab bread from the warmer, and complete my order. Without even asking me who I was, how I was or anything she handed it to me sans eye contact and said, crab toss, that'll be $26 something. The salad was on point, as usual, but the bread was as hard as a rock. I guess that's because they were closing up...but you can't just heat a new bread up for me? The first thing that caught our eye when we walked in was the beautiful portraits of some of our favorite places in Savannah, Georgia. We knew instantly the food was going to be delicious but it was also paired with wonderful service, and an ambiance that brought me back to Broughton Street with a mimosa in hand. We had the Denver omelet with fresh fruit, Mama's Biscuits and Gravy, Child's plate of chicken tenders with fries and a child's plate of French toast and bacon. Good luck to your customers! I hope they won't be ticketed! I gave Harvest Moon a suggestion to put a large sign at the end of their wrought iron fence to warn customers. One of their employees told me that's a good idea. The owner claims they have, but signs get stolen (I can't see why, unless they're not secured to the fence). She also said one of their employees warned me & that is NOT true! I wish they had verbally warned me! Yes, there's a small sign on their hostess stand that is not obvious or highly visible. Once people are standing by the hostess stand, no one can see it. To say "for 28 years there has not been parking for customers next to the restaurant" does not help new or out of town customers. The point is this...The business knows there's a problem! They really DON't care! Otherwise, they'd take responsibility & do more to warn their customers, instead of blaming them. read more

Amazing lunch. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for years. The flavors in our mussels were very tasty and I would definitely recommend. The gumbo was savory with layers of flavors that were quite tantalizing. My lunch buddy selected the crab deluxe sandwich which was highly recommended by several people prior to this visit. I tasted it but was not impressed. It had to be imitation crab...for the price and all the accolades I truly expected more. Oh well the gumbo was more than filling and satisfying. read more

I know 1 star reviews are pretty petty but I truly couldn't consider giving this place anymore than 1 star. The star is for the food alone which is actually pretty tasty. My husband and I both ordered the Neil's Toss salad and it was filling and flavorful. I don't personally enjoy poached chicken on my salads but the rest of the salad was delicious enough that it made up for the flavorless chicken. The interactions we had with the staff are the reasons I'm giving this place only 1 star. We were out of towners and felt very unwelcome in this restaurant. When we arrived there were 3 tables seated inside, 2 seated outside, and 3 servers working; plenty of available seats and a "slow" afternoon by my standards. We requested to be seated outside and were given menus and told to sit at a table the host pointed to. Once seated, it took us 22 minutes to be greeted by a server. We contemplated leaving but didn't want to be total a-holes and so I told my husband we would wait a few minutes longer before skipping lunch all together and heading straight to the event we were in town for. Throughout these 22 minutes, servers came outside, made eye contact with us but never greeted us or took our order, instead they chatted with other tables and by the time we were finally greeted, we were the only ones still sitting outside. The server who took our order appeared annoyed by us for reasons I'm really not sure of (we were dressed for a wedding, quiet, and didn't have complicated ordered). Once we received our food we also requested the check so that we could quickly eat and rush out. When we did this, the server seemed like we ruined his entire afternoon which, again, was REALLY strange. Within 5 minutes of us being greeted, 2 other tables were seated outside and they were all greeted within minutes of sitting down. It was hard not to notice that we were the only brown people in the restaurant and I of course wonder how that played into our experience of poor service when everyone around us had attentive staff and upbeat service. We thankfully have very few reasons to return to Modesto but even if we did, I wouldn't return to this restaurant. Edited to provide response: You are completely correct. Every other review of your restaurant highlighted how outstanding the service is. So if you can, for a second, consider how WE were thrown for a loop when we were treated like burdens by your staff. I made no assumptions about your staff being racist. That's a conclusion you jumped to. But your antiquated response about how you and your staff surround yourself with a diverse crowd really further perpetuates my point. I was observing that as the only people of color in your restaurant, we were obviously treated incredibly different than the other guests for seemingly no clear reason. If you are uncomfortable with my observation, consider how uncomfortable my husband and I felt while dining. Further, we were paying customers who also tipped well despite the service because we know how complicated the food service industry is right now. My husband and I both have backgrounds in restaurants, my husband managing 2 in the Bay Area. When guests provide feedback about their experiences we listen and don't become defensive. Went in for a nice dinner, no employees wearing any sort of face mask, $40 steak was way under done, and waitress was talking about her cheer days like we cared. Which we didn't!
