BUT, they make up for it in food :) and service. great folks over here and always friendly service. honestly though, I really didn't start coming here until Leon's went out of business. they were new and kinda off the beaten path and Leon's was closer...... ribs are good, good flavor, but a little too chewy and fatty sometimes - call me weird but I prefer the skinny dry ribs. the brisket is off the chain! I get it sliced with all the bark and fat, sauce (spicy) on side the smoked chicken is so yummy as are the links and pulled pork. their sauce (spicy) is really good and the beans are AH-mazing. you really can't go wrong with this place. now I only wish they would open one on the west coast..... or overnight to me some brisket and sauce..... read more

This is some of the best Q that I've had. The owner smokes his meat the old fashion way and uses a blend of pecan and hickory. The brisket was absolutely fabulous! Nice crust on both the wet and dry cuts. The sausage was also good, but the ribs are world class. For sides, I had the homemade beans and slaw. The beans are fantastic. Best spicy brisket sandwich I've ever had! They are usually only open until the brisket finishes, which most days isn't past 2-3 pm. The brisket is always perfectly done and the owners a extremely friendly and helpful. They have a small menu and all their options are amazing! We have heard wonderful things about Harris BBQ and got take out from there on Saturday. It is fantastic! Between the 4 of us, we tried the sliced brisket, ribs and sausage. The brisket was melt-in-your mouth tender and the ribs slid right off the bone. Sausage was very tasty as were the sides that we got, pinto beans, green beans and Cole slaw. Order or pick up early, unlike big chains, they don't have an endless supply. They prepare what they think they will need that day and when it's gone, it's gone for the day! Working my way through the 2017 Texas Monthly Top 50 Barbecue list (only 8 so far) and made my way here. Brother, this unassuming place is LEGIT, easily in my top 5 for DFW (and WAY better than another overly-lauded place with the initials of PL). It's a small, cozy place, and the folks running it are down to earth and friendly. Have tried the ribs, pulled pork, sausage, and brisket, as well as the beans, coleslaw, and potato salad sides. Hard for me to choose my favorite, but the brisket has a great smoky flavor and is perfectly moist, the ribs are tasty and tender, pulled pork is moist & flavorful, and the sausage has a great taste, not too greasy like at some places. Potato salad is creamy & not too mustardy, beans are done very well. Coleslaw is okay, one of the few times I would saw a little extra dressing would help. And then...the loaded baked potato (Fridays & Saturdays only). $10, perfectly baked, generous meat portion, and a heft that would embarrass a fully-loaded Chipotle burrito. I recommend trying the meats on their own if it's your first time, but the potato is the best $10 I've spent in a while! Honestly, I would endorse this place almost solely on the great people behind the food, but as someone who's no barbecue newbie, I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone here for some awesome food. read more

When driving through (worth driving a little out of your way) Waxahachie worth stopping in, but be careful you could drive right by and miss it. Sign number one of a good BBQ place, gravel parking lot. I don't know what I think that but when I was parking and walking in I thought to myself, this is either going to be really good or I drove all the way here for a sticker on my Texas Monthly passport book/ Journey thru the BBQ land. Well, I can see how some people might think differently of this place, little less than flashy, red building that I don't think was supposed to be a BBQ restaurant, maybe a couple of old fast food restaurant style booths (you know the ones, right)-- BUT when I walked in and saw Kelvin behind the counter, was worth it! I think most of us can tell when you talk to just a really honestly nice person, and someone that you can tell still has the passion for what they are doing with their life, and this guy is it. Talked for a few minutes about an upcoming PPV UFC/boxing fight and how business has been since getting into the top 50, and just had a nice chat while waiting on my food. He seems like a guy that you want to become friends with and have a beer with. Again, now time for the food break down. Like aways, get brisket and some pork ribs- the usual. First bite of the brisket- wow, good chew, texture, flavor, all in all - good stuff. There is a line between being not too chewy that you have to really work to eat it, but still having texture that you have to actually chew, nailed it. Didn't need the sauce, which I normally don't like getting, but they asked and I didn't want to say no I don't want any sauce. So I broke with my normal process and had some of the sauce. I didn't let it touch the meat, oh no because that would be messing up the meat, but rather dipped the toasted Texas Toast bread they gave with it. Again not a normal for me, I don't need to cover up good BBQ with bread or sauce, and also not a big fan of sauce that has a lot of molasses (this one did), but for some reason it just worked, or I was really hungry this day. Solid 4.5 stars in my book on this one. I took it to-go and brought it home to the family, and admittedly it looses something when it's in a to-go box for 30 minutes, but still, after sitting in a to-go box and driving back to the house with it for that long and it was STILL A 4.5 stars, just imagine what it's like if you ate it there. I did cheat and had my first bite in the car, before I started to drive home and that was a 5 star bite, but have to grade on overall experience to be fair, right?? read more

Some of the BEST bbq around! The chop beef sandwiches are huge! Small place but that's okay because it's more "small town" that way. Super nice owners! I just have one complaint that others should be aware of. I ordered 1 1/2 lbs of chop beef fully expecting the price to be $17 (1 lb) + $8.50 (1/2 lb), but imagine my surprise when they charged a whopping $10 for that 1/2 lb. You're kidding me? I called around afterwards and many bbq places do NOT charge more for 1/2 lb of meat. They merely charge 1/2 the price of the 1 lb cost. Yeah, they've got really good bbq but I'll never order 1 1/2 lbs chop beef from them again. read more

The rub they put on it is amazing, with a visible smoke ring that'll bring a tear to your eye. Both the mild and spicy barbecue sauces are wonderful, tangy and flavorful. We mopped up the leftover with the Texas toast that came with. Potato salad: heavenly. It's like potato purée with chunks of potato, lots of mayo and mustard. It gets better the more you eat it! Coleslaw: superb. Fresh and crunchy and lightly dressed. As good as it comes. Even the bread was delicious! If you're in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Canada, Australia.... GET YOUR ASS HERE. Well it's about time.... I have went to this place 2 times and they were out of meat. Which must be a good thing? Well, today we finally got to try the food. It smells absolutely wonderful as soon as you pull up. The sliced beef is DELICIOUS!!!!! WOW WOW WOW. Cooked so good, the meat is so tender, it almost melts in your mouth.
