After a nice hike, my husband and I were hungry and he came upon this gem. My husband had the Jalapeño Ranch Cheeseburger and I tried the Philly Cheesesteak--we loved both! We walked in the other day around 11:15, and just the owner was there behind the register. He was very friendly and made some recommendations for us. We ended up with a single cheeseburger and a double, one with fries and one with tater tots. For starters, any restaurant that serves tots is tops in my book. We took our seats and looked around the place. Pretty clean, bright, some arcade games and an old pay phone to play with. I was initially concerned because there were no other customers, but they got pretty busy while we waited for our food, especially with takeout orders. The owner was by himself on this particular day, but handled the rush pretty well. Our food didn't take too long and it was outstanding. The burgers definitely had that old school char flavor, and the fries and tots were crunchy and salty and complemented the burgers perfectly. I swear I just stepped back into my teenage years. Amazing mix of music and even classic video games. All I needed was Kevin Bacon to come in and break into a dance routine and I swear I would have time traveled. Other than the amazing decor and vibe of the place is the people that work there. Great customer service and you can tell they care about the customers. The guy worrying the corner came over and we had a great conversation about the games. This place is back open and under new ownership. We met the owner Jordan who is so polite and very accommodating. My husband ordered a charbroiled chicken sandwich(with a hamburger bun instead of the Texas toast), which is DELICIOUS by the way, and it was a bit under cooked in the center, so Jordan apologized and quickly had a new sandwich whipped up for him! I've been to places before where if something was wrong with the order that was already eaten halfway through, they look at me as if I sprouted a horn on my head if I asked for another. So they can call this place whatever they want. Today I ordered a double Swiss mushroom burger, lovingly crafted as shown in the photo. The well-seasoned meat was perfectly cooked, retaining its juicy tenderness (ask for extra napkins). The toasted bun was soft and fresh, and the supplemental ingredients--grilled onions & mushrooms, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo--were present in ideal proportion. Who needs a high priced "gourmet" burger from one of those downtown craft establishments when these local folks are turning out expertly crafted food like this? The fries and onion rings are top notch. The staff are super friendly and full of joy--you'd think they were welcoming you into their own home kitchen. They apparently took over management from a previous owner a year or so ago, and unbelievably, they have improved on what was already a pretty great burger. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that keep you away. We ordered the cheeseburger combo, and the fried fish combo. The cheeseburger was seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. The fish was also well seasoned and fried to our specifications (well done!). It's not a fancy restaurant by any means, but what they do serve is good! I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries, and I got a Philly for my mother. The burger was juicy and had a very nice smoky flavor to it from the grill. The Philly was so full of meat and toppings that my mother could barely pick it up. The bread was soft and the meat was extremely flavorful and tender.
