Overall the food was fair. When eating BBQ I always judge a place by their brisket. Ribs and pulled pork are hard to screw up and this place's was good. I live by the rule that if you offer bbq sauce it means you're masking the poor flavor of your meat and sadly I needed BBQ sauce on the brisket. Without a doubt, the best barbecue I've ever tasted. You don't need a knife to slice any of their meats--they're tender enough to cut with a plastic fork. The sides (potato salad, coke slaw, and pinto beans) are all delicious. The owner, cooks, and hostess/cashier are warm and friendly. All have to say is wow! I've always eaten at a BBQ place in red oak because I've never found anywhere as good as them but Harris bar b que is as good if not better. I had their stuffed potato with chopped beef and tried the chopped beef sandwich my husband got. I love that their BBQ is sweet you can taste the honey, it's delicious. Unfortunately I didn't try any sides but their meat is spot on. Will definitely go here for all my BBQ needs from now on! read more

My husband and I traveled from San Marcos and had this place on our radar after reading that they had made Texas Monthly's top 50. I ordered the brisket after reading good reviews. It tasted like over cooked pot roast. Very little smoke flavor. No smoke ring. It ended up in the trash, along with flavorless coleslaw. My husband ordered brisket as well and had the same opinion. He also ordered sausage. It was okay but nothing special. I will add that the menu is complicated. They say they sell all the meet by the pound but when I ordered a 1/4 lb of brisket I was told I had to buy a sandwich without the bread because I didn't want to buy a whole pound. Not worth the stop. I'm only giving 2 stars because the staff were so nice. read more

This is a great BBQ spot! I ordered the chop beef plate and was surprised by the portion. They also have very flavorful spicy BBQ sauce if that's your thing. The sides were okay - nothing exciting but probably the best BBQ place I've tried in the Hachie area so far... I haven't tried the smokehouse vault... it's next on my list read more

I've eaten here a couple times now and I am very impressed. The ribs are big beef ribs and not those tiny pork ribs that other places serve. The brisket has the perfect smoke flavor and just the right amount of spice to it. The sausage is great but its been a few months since ive had it so i cant give a very good description. They also have pulled pork if you're a yankee and your're into that type of blasphemy. Real Texans know that real BBQ is made from cows! The bean are some of the best beans I've eaten in my life. They are slow cooked with diced tomatoes and cilantro along with who knows what else in order to give them an amazing flavor. The potato salad is good but there's really nothing special about it and it doesn't stand out like the beans do. read more

Mr. Harris has some of the best barbecue in Ellis County. Ribs so tender. Pulled pork and brisket some of the best we've ever had. Only drawback is the food is so good that he runs out most of the time before we can get there. If we have the chance to get there and there's still meat left, we are happy customers!! WOW!!! I've searched far and wide for a good BBQ place and every other place would come up as just ok or good but Harris Bar-B-Que is one of those places that you stop in once and you continue to drive out of your way just to taste the food again and again. This was our first trip here and I learned a quick lesson on just this one trip, get there early as the food is so good he runs out of it every day. Yep, he runs out of all the BBQ everyday because he is such a great hit and his food is so delicious. I walked in and started looking over the menu as I do each time I walk into a restaurant I've never been to before and I was actually saved some wasted time by another customer as he told me all they had left was brisket and potato salad. My first thought was a surprised one as I can't remember ever walking into a restaurant and being told they don't have any more food but then I chatted with him a little longer and found out this was a daily occurrence. The owner Mr. Harris has the golden touch when it comes to BBQ and he has a strong following of customers as I watched 4 different customers being told they were out of food as I stood there with my "golden ticket" giving me access to his brisket for the day. Amazing!!! That sums up all the flavors and tastes his brisket has and the potato salad was top notch. I was blown away at how moist and delicious the brisket was and even though his bbq sauce is good, I felt like I would have committed a crime if I would have put the bbq sauce on the brisket. Yes, it was that good that I wanted to just eat it by itself. Again, get there early or call ahead to make sure you get some BBQ before they run out. Also, for anyone that has any leftovers, I stumbled upon the best way to reheat his brisket, wrap it in tin foil and put it on your bbq grill for about 10 to 15 mins. The juices will caramelize on the bottom and give the brisket this perfect layer of crunch on the outside while the flavors on the inside will be released over and over re-smoking the meat for an extra level of amazing!! I can't wait to drive by his restaurant and this time I'm going to be the first customer so I can try the rest of his menu. read more

I ordered the pulled pork plate with beans and cole slaw. All the food tasted as good as or better than than I expected. However, they had only enough pork remaining to give me a partial serving. They made up for it by giving me a few slices of beef. The pork was very fatty, which is understandable since the cook attempted to scrape together as much as he could from what was left of the pig. Surprisingly, the beef was even more fatty. I could not eat most of the meat on my plate. I can't decide whether Harris' is an authentic Texas bbq joint on the rise, or a guy who smokes meat as a hobby and has a long way to go before his reliability reaches the point where he's ready to offer his customers consistent quality. read more

Went in here yesterday looking for a decent BBQ joint around Ellis County(since there is ABSOLUTLEY NO GOOD Q AROUND THIS AREA!!!) and was rather surprised at Harris BBQ. WHile it is not the TRUE TEXAS STYLE BBQ which is my favorite.....it is still very good! It for sure has the Memphis/Georgia style taste to the brisket, but it was very good!! Brisket was tender, had a nice bark and the flavoring of the meat stuck with me. Smoke wise, it could of used a tad bit more, but nothing to complain about! Just tried (for the 4th time) to eat at Harris but once again, closed. I have heard good things about it and have read good reviews about it but just can't seem to be able to try it. I read reviews back from 2013 saying it was probably just growing pains... NOPE, still the same. Several people say it is so good, he sells out everyday... I'm sure it is great, but selling out everyday is not necessarily a sign of the best food, it is a sign of the business not being run properly as a true business. Sounds to me like Harris is more of a hobby than a business. Really would love to try it, but don't feel like i should have to "work" at adjusting my schedule to accommodate the hours they would like to be open. Yelp says open till 5:30, web site says 7:00 (or until sold out), tried 4 times always about 5:15 since some of us work until 5:00 and always closed. While eating at Vault (pretty good)heard 2 other customers asking if they knew if Harris had closed down since they had trouble with it being closed often also. read more

This is the best Bar-b-que I have had. Even my wife who is not a big barbecue person absolutely loved it and was craving it until we made a return trip. They smoke meats fresh every day and they are open until they run out, so get there as soon as you can. I had the the sliced brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. Both are great and my favorite was the sliced beef. I asked for lean cut and it was still soft, juicy and flavorful and it had the tasty burnt ends with all the flavor. They toast the inside of the bun with a little bit of butter so it adds and extra layer of flavor before you get to the delectable meat. The sandwhich is a very generous portion on a big bun and one can actually fill you up nicely. The barbecue sauce is tasty and they have mild and hot. The beans were charro style beans with bacon, tomato, bell peppers, and onions. They are so tasty. Believe me, that you will love the food. The owners and all the people who work there are extremely nice and are very accomodating. The owner/pitmaster has alot of years of experience and it shows in the food. You can tell the passion for what they do and I can tell they take lots of pride in their finished product. I highly recommend it and is hidden gem in Waxahachie that you have to try. read more
