I drove from Houston to Dallas for Thanksgiving. I had no idea my family wasn't cooking they were catering this year. The food was from Rays and everything was terrible. The ham. Dry. Turkey all white meat and dry. Cornbread stuffing was an unflavored brick that was thrown away. The greens. Canned. Green beans unseasoned. Mac and cheese unseasoned. Mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. My aunt tried to salvage the meal by seasoning EVERYTHING and rebaking the Mac with additional cheese. Which caused the Mac to be over cooked but tolerable. I have never in my life not finished a plate or left w/o leftovers for a thanksgiving meal. We threw away the leftovers and dinner was terrible. I'm not sure if this is the norm for this business but if the regular menu is terrible like the catered meal on an important holiday was I can not and do not recommend. read more

I saw mixed reviews here, as on most businesses it's hit or miss. But today they warranted a sterling review. I'm not from DeSoto, was visiting a friend & took my 4 grandkids there for a late lunch. The lady behind the counter was friendly enough taking our order. But when I asked for french fries or fried okra, she told me to go next door - actually referred me to the restaurant next door! She said to go order that while she prepares our food. I did but when I got back, the teens had already rec'd their sandwiches. She brought me mine & asked if I had ordered my fries. I said yes but it will take 7 minutes. What? She said - it doesn't take that long. You start on your sandwich & I'll go get your fries. She went next door & came back with my fries! The okra wasn't ready, she said she'd go back for that, which she did! Her hubby, Ray came out for a break (it was well after the lunch rush on a Saturday) & she introduced us. What out of this world service!! Ray sat down in a booth with another gentleman who was watching a football game on the restaurant's TV up in the corner. The restaurant was spotless. Tables were neat and floor was spotless. You must wear a mask to enter any of the restaurants in the shopping center. You place your order at a huge plexiglass protecting the employees. Now about the food - OMG the sandwich was huge! and so fresh. We all got chopped beef - the sandwich was packed with fresh, hot tasty meat. It was served with a little cup of BBQ sauce, awesome flavor. The bun was fat, fresh, toasted and hot. One grandson order pulled pork - he said it was amazing. Another grandson ordered a loaded baked potato, that looked good, but it was gone quickly, so I didn't get a photo. When we left, my pickup wouldn't start. I asked the boys to go in & ask if they had jumper cables. They returned saying that Ray's wife would go get cables. Seconds later she left & ret'd shortly. She pulled up next to me & the gentleman who was inside watching the game came out & applied the cables for us. My truck started right away. I gave her a hug (can't believe I didn't ask her name) and she told me to be blessed. Then she turned to the teens and said ya'll be blessed! We did honestly receive a blessing by stopping here. This will be my go-to place when I am visiting my buddy in DeSoto. Thank goodness for sweet, kind & caring people who go out of their way for you. And visit the suburbs occasionally - we big-city people need to get away more often! read more

Ray's is our go to bbq spot in Desoto. They have delicioussss baked potatoes! There's nothing that compares to them. Make sure you call and order those ahead of time as they take a while to cook or are sometimes even sold out. The barbecue sauce is well seasoned and tasty. The turkey legs are steaming hot so be careful. The workers are kind and try to get to know their customers. The place is small, but there are plenty of booths and tables to dine in. read more

Great service but was a bit disappointed with the food. I had the Rib plate . I only got 4 smallish ribs. Came with 2 sides . No bread or roll came with meal .The sides were just ok . The bbq sauce was great. The ribs to me had an unusual texture. They were fall off the bone but were very soggy to stew like texture .I must have got ribs that had a lot of fat in them . Arriving in I first noticed the art work and the family friendly atmosphere, I personally got the pulled pork sandwich and was not disappointed. The sandwich was large and filled be up, but the sauce was the real star of the show. Overall a great experience and would come back again. read more

FYI 01/26/2019 9:15 P.M. I just got accused of potentially robbing Ray's Bar-B-Q in Desoto, TX. Here is the situation. Angie called in an order for the family for dinner. I went to the location and walked in, went to the conner. The lady behind the counter asked may I help you? I said yes I am here to pick up an order for Paul. The lady behind the counter said ok as she steps back and says I thought you were about to rob us, you had your hands in your pocket. I didn't know what you were about to do. I was about to push this button over here. I then told the lady I am not here to rob you, I am here to pick up my food. I payed for the food and she told me to have a blessed day. I was extremely upset at this point but did not show any frustration. I got into my SUV and went home. I explained the situation to my wife and she was disturbed as well. I then called back to the location and asked to speak with the owner and the same lady that accused me of potentially robbing her answered the phone and said she was the owner. I explained my frustration as calm as a mice speaking to lion. The lady completely minimized my complaint by telling me how she felt but she apologize and hope that I would come back and do business with her as I remain silent. I then told her to have a great evening and hung up. Let me explain to you what could have happened here. I am a state LTC (licensed to carry) a concealed weapon. Mind you I never showed my weapon nor did I mention I had a weapon at any point. If this lady would have pressed her button and the police came my life could have been threatened simply because my hands were in my pocket. Being a Black Man in America is very dangerous. We tried the two meat plate with the smoked & grilled chicken, sausage, beans and potato salad. (You cannot get ribs as a part of the two meat plate.). The chicken and sausage were good. The potato salad was great, and the bbq sauce was wonderful! Not sure what that says other than it was an enjoyable meal. The mark of a good bbq spot is their ribs, so we actually went back to try a pound of the St. Louis style ribs (being greedy lol). We got the wonderful sauce on the side, and could tell that the ribs actually had flavor and fell off the bone. Well first off I like to say I'm huge on BBQ! A fanatic in fact, anywho customer service was meh! Genuine barbecue with friendly service. I ordered the brisket plate with corn and green beans, while S.O. ordered the rib plate with corn and baked beans. Brisket was delicious, and the ribs literally fell off the bone. As for the sides, corn was sweet and buttery, and the green beans were crisp and tasty (as opposed to most restaurants that have soggy, bland green beans). Also, I'm not normally a fan of barbecue sauce, as I usually find it a little too tangy, but the one they had (which they clearly made themselves) had a smoky flavor to balance out the tanginess. read more

First time I went everything was perfect. 2nd time I sent my daughter, and she came back with no bread, 3rd I went and purchase 2lbs baby backs, 3 whole chickens, 1lbs Links. My cost $ 120.00. On my way home I thought about the bread. I called back and Ms. Ray answers the phone. I asked her about the bread, she said you didn't asked for bread, she said you have to ask for bread. I said my first visit I didn't have to ask two weeks ago. And I bought 120.00 dollars worth of meat. She said some people buy more than that. And some people don't want bread. I said then why don't you ask the customer. She said some time I do. Wow all that meat and no bread ! She did give the bread. But I was very disappointed. Ray absolutely knows how to BBQ. I came in and enjoyed a great baked potato loaded with meat. As I sat here Ray came by and offered a piece of brisket, the smoke ring was just right but the taste was even better. He makes his own sauce that compliments the food and doesn't over power it. I can say that I am now a customer because I will be coming back on a regular basis. I came here about a week ago, my wife and I have came 3 other times before and if I would have reviewed it then i probably would have given this place a 4 or 5 stars. But, on our most recent visit we ordered a loaded baked potatoe. The lady who originally took my order was a middle aged thin black female, and she was GREAT! Great friendly personality. I paid for my order but I reliezed I forgot to get some toast. So I asked the nice lady how much it would cost for a piece of toast, she chuckled and said dont worry about it, I'll throw it in there! All was great, I went back to the table and waited for the food. Approximately 2 min later and older black women comes out, looks at me and my wife and with an annoyed voice said, "did yall want a piece of toast? Its gonna be a dolla!" And I replied, "yes mam we did, the lady who took my order told me that she would throw it in there." The older lady replied with an angered voice, " well...IM THE OWNER! And its going to be a dolla!" I didn't have a problem paying a dollar for a piece of toast, but what I had a problem with was the owner going against what her employees had already said and making her look bad. I think the owner was very rude to her employees myself and my wife, an employer should never go against his or her employees in the public eye. And to top it off the baked potatoes seemed very old the meat was stale and she didn't bring the piece of toast out to me till about 15 minutes after we got the baked potato. So my question to the owner is, was that $1 really worth this review and losing a customer? read more
