My fiancé and I were visiting from Louisiana and found this place on Yelp. We each got the 2 meat plate. They were out of brisket by the time we made it there, unfortunately. I had the ribs and pulled pork, and he had the ribs and chicken. We both got potato salad and coleslaw as our sides. Everything was delicious! The meat was well seasoned and flavorful and the sides were so good too. We also shared a slice of the amazing pound cake (not pictured as we were told to eat that first, which we did on the drive to our hotel). We had mentioned to them that it was our first time there, and the owner Mrs. Harris came to the window to greet us and was so nice and welcoming! My first impression was this is a Mom and Pop BBQ Spot, reminded me of a truck stop for truckers who want to grab some BBQ on their way out. However, never judge a book by its cover bc this spot is a winner when it comes to BBQ. Stop by for a quick lunch break and the food was delicious. We sat inside and the spot was clean, and very cool Inside. Which was a plus bc this Texas heat is no joke. Enjoyed our sweet tea and BBQ. What a stroke of luck, staying near this gem among the best of TX BBQ! Brisket that I'm having a terribly tough time imagining better...So moist and melty with the perfect smoky edge. I was sad when my stomach let me know I didn't have room for the last two bites. The pulled pork was equally notable. Perfectly juicy and rich in flavor, and the portions are hefty for the very reasonable prices. The sauce is incredible, too, if you're a sauce person on your BBQ. Harris Bar-B-Que came up big for my recent 4th of July celebration and I was really pleased with their catering. They're not only highly rated on Yelp but also among the hyped BBQ spots for local publications (#1) so I knew we were all in for a treat. Located just off the J. Elmer Weaver Freeway in the heart of Cedar Hill, Harris almost feels more like a small BBQ diner with just a handful of indoor and outdoor tables. The neighborhood feels incredibly rural, which I suppose makes this place a diamond in the rough. The vibe is definitely no frills, which is a huge win in my book. Their slogan of "where smoke meets flavor" is definitely accurate and on most weekends, their meats get sold out fast. Sandwiches are in the $9-10 range, while the BBQ plates are $14-21. Beef by the pound is currently $20, followed by pulled pork and ribs at $18.50. Compared to similar places around the state, this is quite affordable (#2). I really enjoyed their sliced brisket, which was moist and smokey through and through. The sausage is okay, but I was super impressed with the ribs. Their beef rib is often sold out, but a real treat when available. Their fully baked potato is stacked and $10 at most. Even the smoked chicken breast is excellent. I'm not too sold on the pinto beans or the cole slaw as sides, but the potato salad and green beans are super tasty. One could probably complain about the lack of variety, but I applaud them for focusing on what they have and doing it well. The catering menu is a little different and customizable and they tend to mention that they're strictly credit card and cash only. This is one of those places that looks like nothing is going on, but let me tell you... there's magic happening in that kitchen. Most tender brisket I've had in a long time. The ribs and the potato salad are also delicious. Not a fan of the pinto beans, but let's be honest, we're here for the meat anyway. The service was friendly and fast. The sign outside proclaims one of the top 50 bbq joints in Texas and I believe it. These ladies know what they're doing! I ordered the two meat plus two sides plate with chicken, brisket, and pinto beans and potato salad and I am in a very happy food coma. I couldn't believe how many times someone stopped by our table to make sure we were enjoying our meal - and this at a restaurant where you order at the counter and there are no waiters. The sliced brisket sandwich, a great value at $6.50, couldn't have been more tender. I'm usually not a sauce person, but I ordered the "spicy" BBQ sauce which added a feisty zing. I also grabbed a rib off my companion's plate - it was done just right and pulled off the bone easily. When the pitmaster came by to check on us, I mentioned that my only disappointment was not getting to try the beans (the person at the counter told us they were sold out). He disappeared back into the kitchen and soon emerged with a small dish of the beans - "I had to scrape the bottom of the pot!" We went on a Saturday. Arrived between noon - 1. We were greeted by Mrs Harris, the proprietor. She was extremely friendly and helped us with the menu and provided us with recommendations and choices. We went with some brisket, ribs, sausage and chicken breast and side of potato salad. Brisket was moist and tasty. The ribs were tasty, but stuck to the bone a bit more than I would have liked. The sausage was good. The chicken was very moist and had great smoky taste. I liked that they actually had chicken, which you don't see that often. Potato salad was great too. One of the bigger things I liked about Harris, was it was a small family run restaurant and they took care of you and you could tell they cared. read more

To satisfy my desires to tour every place on the Texas Monthly Top 50 best I planned to stop here at Harris Bar-B-Cue on our way to Fort Worth. Getting here was a detour off my path to get to Waxahachie. Following a narrow road into town I spotted the little red metal building and pulled into the parking lot to see no vehicles. This was not a good sign and got out to walk to the front door and see a handwritten sign on door which said, "Sold Out". It was only just after lunchtime so it must be a place where the cook limits amount of meat sold. Turned out I was not alone where others showed up peeking through the windows. I will have to reschedule my return here and make sure to arrive much earlier read more

Got the chance to stop in here while in town for a business trip. As a Texas native this place really made me feel at home. To say "hole-in-the-wall" is an understatement. But I have to say, some of the best food comes from places like this. I was greeted by a very friendly man at the counter who took my order. note that we hit this place for lunch with 9 of us, so we pretty much slammed them just with our own party. The food came out relatively fast considering the fact that we hit them with that big of an order all at once. I ordered a puled pork sandwich, because I have a weakness for that sort of thing and it's a great way to judge a place's BBQ. You either get the pulled pork right, or you don't. They do it right! I topped it with some of their spicy sauce, which I loved! I also got a spicy sausage, which I dipped in that spicy sauce for a double spicy. Yum! But hey, if you aren't into spicy stuff they have you covered too with a regular sausage and regular BBQ sauce too. And I'll try not to call you a Yankee. ;-) One of my companions ordered the loaded baked potato, it was covered in BBQ meat and other toppings. The thing was huge, so bring a serious appetite if you order than thing, it had its own gravitational field! It was YUGE! Excellent barbecue! Kelvin Harris does a great job with ribs, brisket and sausage. He doesn't apply too much seasoning and no sauce. The quality of his work speaks for itself. The ribs were meaty, tasty and cooked just right. The brisket was flavorful and juicy. The sausage was spicy and smokey. This place is definitely worth a visit. Just be aware that he opens at 11am and closes when he runs out of meat, which is almost every day by 3pm. read more
