I was genuinely excited to try this spot. When we arrived around 1 pm on a Thursday, the place was empty. They mentioned that we had just missed the lunch rush. There is a large field out back with lots of picnic tables, so I can absolutely imagine this place getting busy and lively. It just was not bustling while we were there. We ordered a two meat plate with ribs and brisket, along with elote and mac and cheese. We also added hot honey wings and tallow fries. I really wanted to love it more than I did. The sides were barely warm, the brisket was a bit too tough for my taste, the fries were too skinny (also barely warm) and the wing skin was softer than I prefer- he wings have potential - I would have loved them crisped up before being sauced. Overall, the food landed in the middle for me. That said, the interior is super cute and has a welcoming vibe, and the guy working the register was very friendly. I am glad we made the drive and checked it out, especially on such a pretty day in Cedar Hill.

Now - the star of the show: the food! Smoked wings 7/10: a little undercooked for my preference but nice smoke flavor. I did get the hot honey sauce on the side but not a fan of the flavor. Maybe I'll try these with the sauce next time because it may help add flavor to the wings. The ranch was homemade - which was good. Elote 8/10: this was really good and hard for me not to eat the entire thing! Great flavor and nice portion size. Baked beans 6/10: not my fav side and I'm used to slightly sweeter baked beans. These had a tart taste - not bad or sour just not sweet enough for me. I'd definitely come back and try the barbecue next time.

Concerned by the interaction, I left the drive-thru line and went inside to speak with management. Dorsey immediately addressed my concerns with professionalism, patience, and courtesy. She took the time to listen, quickly de-escalated the situation, personally assisted with my order, and assured me that the matter would be addressed. Her prompt response and commitment to customer service completely changed my experience. While my initial interaction was disappointing, Dorsey's leadership, professionalism, and dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction are the reasons for this five-star review. She is a tremendous asset to the restaurant and should be recognized for her excellent customer service.

I decided on a combo meal with Chicken Lo Mein, Orange Chicken, and fried rice. The Orange Chicken and fried rice were flavorful and not bad at all. However, the Chicken Lo Mein had a completely different outcome. As a lo mein lover, I was definitely disappointed. The noodles had a very distinct seafood taste that I found unpleasant. I'm not sure if the noodles are prepared in a seafood broth or near seafood dishes, but the taste was strong enough that it completely turned me off from the lo mein. On the positive side, the customer service was kind and attentive, and the restaurant was clean, which I always appreciate. Would I go back? Time will tell. I may give King China another try, but next time I'll definitely be choosing something other than the lo mein.
