Went in search of food on Christmas Eve and wound up in Cedar Hill at Soul Man's as they were the only ones open and not packed. The lobby had one family in there. Everything was clean and the atmosphere was light. The servers were friendly and fun to talk to. My daughter and I ordered two Loaded Tyler's and two chopped beef sandwiches with two drinks. The food, however, was bland. Everything was bland! Not a sprinkle of seasoning on anything. That's hard to do in Texas!! I was truly disappointed. I had to doctor on everything at home before I could eat anything. I, also, wish the option to add what meat that you want on the Tyler was there because I would have opted for chopped beef. The food was absolutely horrible! We ordered the family meal through DoorDash from the FT Worth location on 02/21/26. It cost $110, and it was a waste of money! The ribs, which we paid extra for, were extra dry, and the sausage had no color to it, as if it was not even cooked. About the only halfway edible was the brisket, which is all we could eat. The sides lacked flavor, seasoning, whichever, and the fries were dripping with oil, so that even the container they came in was soaked. How can you live in Texas, call your establishment a barbecue place, and not know how to cook barbecue? read more

The service is fine if a bit slow. But friendly faces and all. However, the food is terrible. The brisket is gray and absolutely flavorless. Might as well pop the brisket in the microwave to cook it. The okra was the only thing that was decent, and that's pretty hard to mess up. Went tonight to venture a bbq in Texas. Thought I'd go to one and saw Soulman's on the frontage road and thought "Soul"?? This place was great had the half slab of pork ribs with two sides. The side I thought was just ok fried okra was cold and the corn was lukewarm. The ribs and spicy sauce was the bomb.com so good very tasteful and the seasoning spot on!! Sweet tea was overpowering but the ice cream to go was also fantastic. Plan on stopping by back when I get back to Texas. Should've had the bake potato. Oh well next time. Was very disappointed that they were out of the half chickens, being the special of the month. I can see them running out before closing time, unfortunately, this was during dinner time. Stopped in on a whim after just landing in TX. I solely picked this place because I liked the outside of the building. Got the pork sandwich special with potato salad and banana pudding. This place has not changed its' menu in some time. I had a double barrel baked potato with beef. The quality of the ingredients were good. The potato was large enough for two servings. The amount of beef on the potato was not enough. It was piled on in a way that gave the illusion that there was a great deal of meat to potato ratio. Once I got it home and split it in half I found out that they were a little skimpy on the meat. The cost of the meal was acceptable but not liked due to the meat portion. $14 and some change. read more

This place was solid. I had sliced brisket, pork ribs, and smoked chicken. Honestly, the chicken was the star. Who would've thought? Or the brisket and ribs were OK, the chicken definitely surprised me. Pork ribs had taste of both smoke and spice rub- very tasty. The chopped pork was white color, no smoke ring pink or bark mixed in. Neutral taste and a 4 on a 10 point juiciness scale. Brisket was uniformly cooked brown with the bark trimmed off, no smoke ring .and a 4 of 10 on juiciness scale. Fried cabbage was good, Mac n cheese was not special. Buttermilk pie was good. Couldn't visit Texas without hitting up a BBQ joint and Soulman's was AMAZING. My husband is more of a bbq connoisseur than I am, but it was so good! He got the ribs and I got a pulled pork sandwich. Traveling through for the weekend, heading to see my hubby in west TX... My son begged me to try this place because he wanted smoked chicken. I did a u-turn for him. (Hey, that's what this momma does). * So, we stop, my son go inside to grab a menu and come back out and say "The lady at the register stated the prices on the to-go menu is lower than the true price." (Bad sign for me immediately, but my son wanted to eat here - me personally would have walked out.) I asked the guy - "There's so much going on with your menu above, where's your sandwiches for turkey only?" He looked up at me like he was annoyed because I even asked! He replied - "((sigh)) Well, if you look above here (signaling his hand pointing) , you will see individual turkey here by lb or you can look over here under sandwiches." I replied... Excuse me? He just looked back down and kept cutting meat. I was steaming inside.... but trying to "still" give my boy what he wanted to eat. He then looked up and pointed - "We do have put 1/2 chicken meal on sale this month for $10.49. We ordered... My son got the 1/2 chicken deal with sweet tea and I got a plain turkey sandwich. Everything was roped off of course, so we went back to the truck. . My son said chicken was ok, but no flavor (plain chicken taste), he did like the Mac n cheese and green beans. My turkey sandwich was on a small roll vs a bun (certainly now acceptable for the price). The turkey itself was very moist and tasty. . . Now, being a previous restaurant owner, my employee KNEW to ALWAYS GREET GREET CUSTOMERS! ALWAYS! You don't know if they eat there regularly or not. For 1st time customers it certainly is a 1st impression for them to "come back". Food can be great; however is customers don't feel welcomed... they don't come back. Some may not care because locals support them, but it puts a sour taste in those who could "potentially" be regulars, by passing through. The guy taking my order was on the slight rude side and not helpful especially for a first timer. Wth? Lol man waste of time :-/ The food is expensive and the meats are on the dry side. I've tried it a second time and again pretty much the same experience not so helpful and again the food is mediocre and don't think the price justifies it??? The chain BBQ restaurant have plain to down right awful food.The independent BBQ places are always out of items,small portions,dirty and suffer staff issues. Maybe I went at the wrong day and time. I've visited this location a number of times for a number of years. My experience this weekend was nothing short of disappointing. My order was relatively easy - 2 sides, chopped beef. Apparently chopped beef is the new blended because that's exactly how the meat turned out. It wasn't warm, not sure how fresh, a lot of fatty pieces, and chopped down to the size of bacon bits. I will not be returning and would not recommend. read more
