Excellent barbecue! Kelvin Harris does a great job with ribs, brisket and sausage. He doesn't apply too much seasoning and no sauce. The quality of his work speaks for itself. The ribs were meaty, tasty and cooked just right. The brisket was flavorful and juicy. The sausage was spicy and smokey. This place is definitely worth a visit. Just be aware that he opens at 11am and closes when he runs out of meat, which is almost every day by 3pm. read more

This place was great. I normally don't do barbecue just because it's hard to find one to my liking. I'm really into sauce on my meat and Harris does the job. I got a hot link basket with pinto beans and coleslaw and my boyfriend got the sausage sandwich. The hotlink was of really good quality and the sauce they had on it was outstanding . It also came with a piece of Texas Toast in the side. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the coleslaw was slightly dry and didn't have a lot of flavor The pinto beans were great and I had a bite of the sausage sandwich which was on a buttery grilled bun and was good as well. Don't let the outside of the business deter you! I almost didn't go in because the location looks like a small little shack on the side of the highway, but the interior is very cute, quaint, and clean. The smell of deliciously smoked meats greets you at the door. We ordered a 2 meat plate with sliced brisket and ribs for the husband, and a chipped beef sandwich for me. Everything was delicious!! The sandwich was very filling. I hate when bbq restaurants skimp on the meets when you order the sandwich. The ribs were also fall off the bone tender. The menu options are small, but what they have to offer is delicious. The only sides you can choose from are coleslaw, beans, or potatoe salad. The only drink options are sweet tea or bottled drinks with no refills. I think that rather than offering a variety of mediocre items, they focus on providing a few exceptional things. Today was probably my second or third time going to Harris Bar-B-Que and I always forget to write a review, but not today! I've always had their bbq sandwiches with the spicy bbq sauce and potato salad (I don't eat everyone's potato salad) and it hits on every level, down to the bread on the sandwich. I like these guys. It's a small, family run BBQ joint that cooks old-school--with 2 smokers running right out front. The food was good enough that I went back the next day to taste some more of the flavors. My experience breaks down like this: The Good: The Meats: I tried the pulled pork, brisket (which their menu just calls sliced beef), sausage link, and ribs. It was all good, but I'd have to say the pulled pork and brisket were my favorites of those listed. The Sides: Their beans were the best I've had. The cooks put a bunch of short ends into the beans, so you'll often get a taste of brisket, sausage or pork in the beans, which I love.The beans also have chopped tomatoes and onions in them, making them much heartier than some of the others. I also tried the potato salad, which was good, but it's a really rich PS with a mayo base, so it may not be for everyone. The Not-as-Good: Location. This is really just being nitpicky, but it is off the beaten path. Waxahachie is a small town, though, so nothing's really all that far away. The food makes the extra 2 minutes in the car totally worth it. Maybe this is just because I'm a Californian eating Texas barbecue, but I'd like to see a couple of different sauce options. Their hot and mild BBQ sauces are good, but that's why I'd like to try more. Certainly not a deal breaker in my book. Just a tip: The owner told me they can occasionally run out of ribs and/or beef, especially when they get a big time lunch rush. My guess is it's just the growing pains of a new spot and they'll get those kinks worked out. Thankfully, they have lots of good alternatives to choose from should that happen to you. Stopped in while driving on our way to Dallas. Arrived around 5:45 pm and sadly only a few items remained because the food is so good and sells out quick. When you pull up, you smell the amazing aroma of smoked meat! We had pulled pork sandwiches....offered with either mild or hot sauce. This is excellent BBQ and I'm so glad we have a place like this on the south end of town! I ordered the sausage, pulled pork, and brisket. The sausage was good, the pork was really good, and the brisket was really tender with a lot of smokiness. The seasoning on the brisket was perfect as it didn't overpower the meat and it simply added to the smoke and beef flavor. If you're a BBQ fan then you have to stop at this place. I'm a sucker for BBQ. After reading that Harris BBQ in Waxahachie was select as one of the top 50 BBQ joints in Texas and top 5 in North Texas I just had to check it out for myself. I'm very critical of bbq so this place needed to impress me greatly. Pulling into the gravel parking lot you get the feeling of "hole in the wall". Ok. This place is small. Very small. But wait, what's that? Do I smell that euphoric smell of smoke? Oh my!!!! I think I floated through the air entering the building. Not knowing what they were really good at, I ordered a two meat dinner (lunch time) and selected the sliced brisket and ribs, with their beans and coleslaw as my sides. Sweet tea was freshly made. Took a small bit to get my order but as I waited I saw fresh slaw being made. That comforted me knowing this stuff did not come from Swanns!!!! This place is nothing but homemade. Meal in place and I dig in. Rib first. Moist and tender. Mild BBQ sauce was served on the rib. Didn't like that but it was good. A little thin on the sauce (I like thick sauce) but good BBQ doesn't need sauce. The sliced brisket was a tad dry only because the quality of the meat was lean. I like a bit of fat in marbling but this brisket was still excellent. Outer crust was very flavorful. The beans were also excellent. Mixed with all kinds of ingredients. The slaw was sweet and moist. Would have like a little extra in it such as raisins or mandarin oranges but it was still good. What really impressed me? The slice of toast served with the meal. It was out of this world crisp and buttery with a flavor that knocked me back. I was extremely impressed. The staff (I assume owners) were very friendly. My assessment? This is an old Texas Style BBQ joint. Hands down. Lots of meat for the price. Down home hospitality and a great little place to replace and eat. Stop in and enjoy. That's ok. My coleslaw had very good texture and color but it was dry and no flavor. Ticks me off not to have good coleslaw. It's too easy to make a good one. My potato salad was very good considering I don't like mustard based potato salad. My office manager had sliced brisket and sausage. Her brisket was very moist and slightly flavorful. The sausage was very good. Once again, the Texas Toast was the best thing about the meal. The worst thing? The price, $35 for so so BBQ and just not much of it. Had to make a Business Trip to Waxahachie and had a taste for BBQ. Looked up BBQ places and Harris Bar-B-Que popped up. The place is small but quaint. The Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11AM or Until Sold Out!!! I ordered the Baked Potato (last one for the day) with Chopped Beef. The owners are very nice and very cordial. The Baked Potato came out and it was Huge. It came with Shredded Cheese, mild sauce (asked for the Spicy Sauce later on), and Sour Cream. Simple but very tasty!!! Several customers came in and from hearing stories this is a local favorite. They were named one of the "Top 50 Best BBQ Joints In Texas" (June 2017). They have Sliced Beef, Chopped Beef, Pulled Pork, Smoke Sausage, Chicken and Ribs. Will definitely be back!!! read more

I got the ribs with sauce on the side and they're hands down the best I've ever had. (close second to Coker's in Arlington). Not a ton of sides but the meats make up for it. All are good but for real.. Try those ribs dry. I've eater inside and to go.. The restaurant isn't anything fancy but we came for food.. And they deliver. First, let's start with the amazing customer service that started from the time we arrived until we pulled off from the drive thru. We felt very welcomed and that alone is a reason to keep returning. Now on with the food. We ordered the 3 meat plate, but they were sold out of chicken and ribs, so we ordered the sliced beef plate with, potato salad, and pinto beans.The sliced beef comes in thick tender cuts (heavy on the tender) and it was so flavorful. The sides were just as good. I know good barbecue and there are very few places in Cedar Hill with good food, but I would definitely recommend Harris Barbecue if you're looking for some good food. Got a two meat plate with brisket, smoked sausage and sides of cole slaw and potato salad. Comes with a big piece of Texas toast. Brisket - Nice smoked flavor, almost perfect. Not overwhelming. Not too much salt, fork tender. Fat isn't completely rendered and adds nice structure. Good bark. Some pieces sliced a little thick but it's so tender it doesn't really matter. Smoked sausage - Excellent. Strong smoke flavor, came sliced in half. Sides - Fairly standard, crisp cole slaw not too heavily sauced. Potato salad is simple but flavorful. BBQ Sauce - I got the "hot" on the side. Some of the better sauce I've tried in Texas. Really, really, really good and normally I don't care much for sauce. read more

I ordered a brisket plate with potato salad and coleslaw. I also ordered some sweet tea, which was exactly what good sweet tea should be! I have been to so many BBQ joints that put all kinds of unnecessary things in their sweet tea and it just ruins it, so I was so happy to get real sweet tea at Harris. Anyways, this review isn't about the sweet tea, it's about their BRISKET. Now I had already eaten once before coming here so I wasn't really hungry; however, I was in the area so I wanted to get my TX BBQ Passport sticker. Let me tell you, when you eat something when you're not hungry and it still makes you retreat into a moment of awe and pleasure, that's good food. And that's exactly what happened when I put a piece of their moist and tender brisket into my mouth. Now the one thing I would change is to specifically ask them for the sauce on the side. When their meat is that good, it speaks for itself and doesn't need to be drenched in BBQ sauce. Thankfully, their sauce was yummy so it didn't ruin the experience. Oh and the toast is incredible. I usually pass on the bread at BBQ joints because it's just bread out of the bag, but Harris actually gives you buttered toast, and he knows how to make a good toast. The potato salad was standard mustard based potato salad, and coleslaw was mayonnaise based (which is my preference). I love this place. It's located close to downtown Waxahachie and our office. Usually we call in an order to go so we don't have to wait in the long lines! Plus we'll know if they are baking potatoes that day. My regular order is chopped beef with both sauces, on the side, plus a Cole slaw. One sauce is mild and the other is -wow - hot sauce that burns in the back of your mouth. Which is why I add the Cole slaw to the sandwich with the hot sauce drizzled over. Bliss The buns are grilled which makes them greasy to hold but worth it. The Chocolate pound cake (I've heard) is good too. I'm usually full from the barbecue to try it. Wanted to try and support local. We had a party of 10 3 adults and 7 kids. Walked in and the lady said we needed a mask to enter the building. Told her we planned on dining in to which she replied ok but you all have to wear a mask to be inside. She then said "you can go through the drive thru" guess she didn't understand we wanted to dine in. Will never return to this business.
