Our group had been going to Junior's BBQ for the past 1 1/2 yrs now as part of our Veterans Support Ministry C.C ., while visiting seniors veterans. I eaten almost everything on there menu, as for us the food, service and friendly staff goes out of there way for customer service. Today, with my 1 meat plate ( chopped BBQ) and had red beans with it and requested some grilled onion's . After the cook grilled the onions he brought it out and put on my plate. Eh. Definitely not the best bbq and the establishment was pretty dirty. I had the chopped brisket sandwich and didn't like how it was chopped, plus thought the sauce had a strange taste to it. My dad got a brisket plate, but they only gave him one piece of texas toast to eat his giant slices of brisket. Above average BBQ in a pleasant, family run restaurant. This family has had a BBQ joint for about 40 years. You don't do that in Texas without either some good quality or some marketing nonsense (for an example of the latter, see Dickey's Barbecue Pit). Junior's doesn't market much. In fact, the family closes the restaurant on Saturdays and Sundays. Good for them. The space is bigger than it looks from the outside, but it's still small. It's neat, clean, and fairly typically decorated. Pleasant. The food is good. The ribs are first rate. The brisket is good, though a little dry for my tastes. The baked potatoes are big (really big) an almost a meal in and of themselves. Other sides are decent, but nothing to write home about. There are (many) worse BBQ places in the DFW area. There are some this good. And there are a few (tiny number of) select ones that top this place. Junior's isn't in the select list, but this is a good BBQ joint overall and much better than most. I'd stop by again when in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip just to get here. read more

We came in mid day on Dec 27th on our way back to San Antonio from a Dallas Cowboys game. We found this place through web search and soooooo happy we did! We ordered the Turkey sandwich lunch special, a link of sausage, and also a BBQ Spud! The Turkey was so moist and juicy! All the sides were good (only exception I think is a better recipe could be used for the Mac n cheese). It wasn't bad just good use a little more flavor. My boyfriend devoured his BBQ Spud and loved every bite. Def a lunch we didn't talk much during! Ha! We were too busy enjoying our food! The service was sooooo helpful. We shared it was our first time there and passing through. They gave us a couple delicious samples to help us choose. The BBQ sauce is great! We literally search for best BBQ any trip we take around the US and this was def great! The only downside there are no Junior's locations near San Antonio! read more

Called juniors today and placed a to go order. According to their menu online, I should have spent about $35, and I ended up spending $50. I understand prices have gone up but their menu should really be updated. My baked potato was AMAZING, but everything else we got was terrible. Sliced beef was awful. Was a gray color and so, terribly dry. French fries had no seasoning. Was really disappointed, considering this used to be my favorite bbq place around. read more

Seems that portions are shrinking and prices are going up. Then potatoes are way smaller then normal. Overcharging for meals is not cool. No idea of what you pay without itemized receipt. At some point it makes more sense keep your customers coming back and they probably will not if feeling like they got overcharged. Working Class - NOT ! I began my journey with Jr in Lancaster, TX. I couldn't get enough of it. Best BBQ and huge baked potatoes at the time. Moved to Ovilla and found Jr in Red Oak. Pure bliss, not hardly, we created this monster and now we HAVE to deal with it. He is closed both Saturday and Sunday. Not hating, I don't work the weekend. But I do enjoy going out with friends for dinner on my time off. Can't go to this establishment except during the week, and by the time I get home I don't feel like driving anymore. Went back to sample the wares sans sauce. Much much friendlier fellow behind the meat counter this time, 5 stars on him, young fellow with a bit of scruffy facial hair. Same nice young ladies back there, seriously how we were greeted was 10 times better than last time! The important part, the grub! So, points were earned this time around for not clobbering my BBQ with sauce (the sauce is good but I like it when I want it not by force ;) ). The beans are just as good as last time (eating them now), but... and there is the almighty but... The okra is no bueno, it's kind of luke warm and not crispy at all, in fact it's almost soggy. Last time I got ribs and brisket, this time ribs and sausage. Who doesn't love a good Texas/German smoked sausage? I know I love it! Ready? No bueno... what I got looked like Ekrich, had the consistency of Ekrich and if it was smoked they likely walked it by the smoker as it didn't appear to have spent any appreciable time in the box. For the record, I'm not a fan of Ekrich... at ALL... fortunately the sauce is good so I completely double dunked the sausage to mask the Ekrichness of it. I was hungry and since the okra wasn't good I did polish off the Polish (heh). On to the ribs, last time they were pretty good but again... saucy. This time without said slathering I was super excited. Not a failure on the ribs this time, they were o.k. They weren't bad, they weren't great, they were just ok. Good smoke flavor in them, somewhat tender and a decent flavor... the problem was they were a bit dry and seemed like they were "left over" and/or reheated more than once. They weren't nasty or anything but the fresh factor was definitely missing. In short, what saved Juniors a 2, was their Customer Service and very positive friendly staff. I'll hit em up one more time and get brisket / ribs to see if it was an off day. read more

We were craving BBQ and were referred to Junior's. We took a drive down 35 from Dallas and stopped on it. The inside looks like it hasnt been touched since the early 90's and definitely felt like Texas. With it being lunch, we ordered the lunch special. I got the ribs and chopped beef. Out of the several BBQ placed I have tried while living in Dallas, this one definitely tops it. The price and quality of meat were great! For $12, I was able to get 2 meats, 2 sides (one being dessert), and a delicious piece of toast. The customer service felt like a family as well. Stopped in here for dinner on a road trip from Waco to DFW -- the staff was very engaging when I asked for their fave recommendations, so had to get some of practically everything (they make it all in house!). Highlights for me were the potato salad, a perfect traditional yet gourmet side (so frickin good!!) and the cole slaw, so fresh and delicious. I also loved the bacon beans and banana pudding, and my friend (who loves okra and I don't) ate his entire plate of fried okra, and devoured his jalapeno sausage (not judging, but not something I would order). The only disappointment was the brisket ... too dry for me. I prefer a more luscious, fatty brisket that's tender and filled with flavor. We've been living in this town since 1983 and you could say we know the quality of your food pretty good. But today, it was half meat and half fat! We have never bought such poor quality beef from you since living in this town. Needless to say, we won't be going back. You have seen the last of us. This wasn't no accident. You know very well how much fat you are chopping up along with the lean beef. I don't chalk this up for a one time deal either. It's been a few months since we've been up there but never again. I've been eating at Junior's since the 80s. The quality, portions, flavor, and friendly service have never changed. I usually prefer BBQ without sauce, but I do like the sauce here.
