Above average BBQ in a pleasant, family run restaurant. This family has had a BBQ joint for about 40 years. You don't do that in Texas without either some good quality or some marketing nonsense (for an example of the latter, see Dickey's Barbecue Pit). Junior's doesn't market much. In fact, the family closes the restaurant on Saturdays and Sundays. Good for them. The space is bigger than it looks from the outside, but it's still small. It's neat, clean, and fairly typically decorated. Pleasant. The food is good. The ribs are first rate. The brisket is good, though a little dry for my tastes. The baked potatoes are big (really big) an almost a meal in and of themselves. Other sides are decent, but nothing to write home about. There are (many) worse BBQ places in the DFW area. There are some this good. And there are a few (tiny number of) select ones that top this place. Junior's isn't in the select list, but this is a good BBQ joint overall and much better than most. I'd stop by again when in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip just to get here.

Nice little barbecue joint I haven't been here in a long time. I am I think for lunch specials but everybody was getting the big potato which was huge obviously that is what I should I got the brisket I got was pretty dry and way too much sauce. Potato salad and beans and a sweet tea was good

Service, food, amazing. The building was nice and the owner seems to take care and pride in what he dose. Great prices large portions with a family environment. Next time I pass bye I will definitely stop in.

One of the best bbq spots I've been to! I got the chopped beef sandwich and curly fries. Definitely worth the 40 min drive I took.

Great BBQ for being local. There is better BBQ, but they are the closest & most convenient if we want BBQ & don't want to drive to Dallas.

With formalities out of the way, I make my second coming on Yelp by way of reviewing Brisket City Craft BBQ and you're welcome. Our society has long accepted that I am nothing short of Barbecue Jesus with standards higher than Mt. Everest. When I drive past the likes of Dickey's, their staff tremble at my mere presence within a few hundreds yard of their establishment. I have shut down subpar BBQ joints with just a glance. I have ruled DFW BBQ reviews with an iron fist that shows no mercy to any heathen who dares to dishonor the culinary masterpiece that is Texas BBQ. Nonetheless, I decided to take a few of my friends (very important dignitaries, Victoria's Secret super models and others who can't get enough of me) to Brisket City...and found this place to be an ABSOLUTE GEM. Their brisket is a solid 11/10... cooked perfectly, moist, proper smoke ring, the right bark and immaculate flavor--a rarity around here. Finding such BBQ in DFW let alone Ellis County is rare. I have decreed that this places makes my top two along with Hutchins in Frisco. I shared some gentle recommendations with their staff on considering non apple cider vinegar based sauce as an alternative, albeit inexpensive addition that would appeal to wider palettes but we all know that real men don't put sauce on their meat anyway so no points deducted there but felt it was important for me to advocate for the trans community and others who must have their sauces. I must now tend my other affairs, but leave you with my strongest endorsement of this proper smokehouse. It's worth the trip. Until next time...

HUG BBQ - Sheri's fully loaded baked potato with spicy bbq sauce

HUG BBQ

HUG BBQ I first…read morediscovered HUG BBQ through Instagram and decided to give them a try -- and I'm glad I did! I've only done take-out so far, and the experience has been solid every time. Ordering at the counter is quick and easy. Depending on how busy they are, I usually wait about 10-15 minutes for my order to be ready. The longest I've waited in line before ordering was maybe five minutes, so definitely not bad at all. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even if occasionally a little distracted by the action in the kitchen (understandable -- it smells amazing back there). I always check my order before leaving, and it's been correct every time. My go-to item starting out was the Sheri's Super Spud -- I always get the two-meat version with brisket and beef sausage. And wow... that potato is huge. Easily feeds two or three people. The brisket usually has a perfect bark and seasoning, though occasionally it leans a bit salty for my taste. But more often than not, it's just right. The sausage is excellent -- a coarse grind with a nice snap from the casing, just the way I like it. I've also tried the Pork Ribs, and they've earned a permanent spot on my order list. Tender, moist, and packed with flavor, with just the right bite off the bone. One little thing I appreciate: they give a generous amount of BBQ sauce with to-go orders -- not the stingy portions some other places give. If you're in or near Lancaster and looking for great BBQ, definitely give HUG a shot. Friendly service, big portions, and solid flavor all around!

The Caesar salad was good, traditional, fresh, and the correct size. The garlic mashed potatoes were good. But the wagyu NY strip was just incredible. It was almost black on the outside and just warm on the inside, a perfect rare as wagyu beef should be. The meat was unctuous and delicious without being greasy or fatty. It was so richly umami flavorful, perfectly seasoned. It was just an excellent steak. The bourbon bread pudding was a huge serving and wonderfully flavorful. There was some nice bread to go with the meal too. The smoked old fashioned cocktail before dinner was excellent. And I got a nice Cabernet that perfectly paired with the steak. Our server was casual but friendly with a good balance of hospitality and service. This was truly a great dinner and one of the best steaks I've ever had... and all of this in Ennis, Texas. Seating is not ideally comfortable for a one and a half to two hour dinner, ambience is not too loud, but not exactly leaning on the side of anything remotely formal. Good for groups, good if you like steak....I will say if you like steak that is overcooked with a 1/2inch burned crust and very salty. Was excited to try the wagyu filet but it was overdone and impossible to enjoy the tenderness when you had to bite through so much burnt. Noticed that they serve a crème brûlée, and unfortunately, it did not live up to it its hype: I received a oval dish about 6 inches long that had a smidge over - I kid you not - a quarter an inch of crème brûlée, including the soggy caramelized crust. When I ran my spoon from one end of the dish to the other, it barely filled up half the utensil - it was rather saddening. Now I am the kind of person that believes in at least a "two times whack" with the bottom of the spoon in order to break the lovely caramel crust on top of a crème brûlée; this poor little dessert was not even thick enough for the spoon to rest upon the crème brûlée without it sinking to the bottom of the dish instantly. Positive notes, our waitress was a little misinformed on the menu, she might've been new and so that was not her fault as she did well in trying to accommodate our party of three - one who is particularly hard of hearing - and their Caesar salad was average, but nothing outstanding, along with the potatoes and brussels sprouts we got along alongside the meal. All this being said, if you like a variety of big pieces of overcooked salted meat with a thick crust, this is the place for you.

There's a huge yard out back with plenty of picnic tables, which makes it perfect for hanging out when the weather's nice. Inside, the space is small, comfy, and neat. It feels well put together without trying too hard. There's even a fireplace that adds a nice touch--no idea if it's actually working, but it fits the vibe. The staff here really stands out. Super friendly, very polite, and they keep things simple--you order at the corner, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Easy and efficient. I went with the brisket taco, and it delivers. This isn't a tiny street taco--it's loaded. You get brisket, salsa negra, avocado crema, and pickled onions. The balance works really well. The salsa brings some acidity to cut through the fat, while the crema smooths everything out. Every bite comes together nicely. As for the brisket itself, the seasoning is solid but not overly aggressive. Personally, I'd like a bit more bark--it was a little thin for my taste. That said, the smoke ring is very prominent, and you can taste that deeper smoke flavor. Texture-wise, it was very tender--easily cut with a plastic fork. I did catch it later in the afternoon, and the lean slices were just a bit on the dry side for me. Overall, the vibe here is awesome and the tacos are legit. This is a spot I'll definitely be coming back to--looking forward to giving the brisket another shot, plus trying the pork ribs and some sides.
