Brisket undercooked. BBQ sauce watery. Gravy thin and zero flavor. Green beans zero flavor. Mac 'n cheese was soggy noodles, cheap cheese. Pinto beans was bean in WATER and they tasted soured. I know... well, it's the principle but we spent over 90 dollars, and the manager or whoever answered the phone acted like we were trying to rip them off or something. Went by Soulman's BBQ in Red Oak on Saturday to pick up a pound of sliced brisket and some pinto beans. I had bought this before for around $15/lb and a 16 oz cup of beans for about $5. High, but they do have pay overhead. I didn't even look at the menu to check prices on this recent visit, assumed they'd be about the same. However,.. Went to check out and the pound of sliced beef alone was $25 and they were going to charge an additional $8.50 for the equivalent of a can of beans you can get at the grocery store for about $1. I told them that's ridiculous just cancel the order. I told them I had paid about $15 not too long ago. They lied and said, no prices did go up a little but only $2/lb. No they went up about $7 /lb. And their BBQ is mediocre at best. Now I love Juniors BBQ just down the street, I used to eat there often when I worked in the area, but unfortunatley they're not open on weekends. So I have to reduce my standards occasionally on the weekend and go to Soulman's. But I won't be doing that anymore. I have in the last few months on a Friday evening bought Junior's family pack which gives you a pound of meat and 3 pints of sides for $22.95. Obviously that's much less than the approx $40 you'd have to pay at Soulman's for less quality food. And Juniors per pound price for brisket is $14.95. And all of their BBQ is great. So if you're looking for BBQ near Red Oak,... pass by the high priced posers at Soulman's and get some great real Texas BBQ at reasonable prices at Juniors. I have no affiliation with Juniors. I just can't tolerate being ripped off by businesses trying to take advantage of customers while we have a government and politicians that are already hurting citizens with the abuse of their fiduciary responsibilty and destruction of the buying power of the dollar only to enrich themselves. I'm pretty sure Soulman's received millions in tax payer funded PPP money while Junior's was too small to receive any. And Juniors isn't trying to gouge its customers. Its prices have barely changed. Soulman's is no doubt gouging its customers with far inferior food because of a lack of competition. read more

We ordered a slab of ribs with 2 sides. (Coleslaw and bake beans ) The ribs were seasoned as well as the beans. The ribs were tender. We dined in on a Saturday around 3pm. I thought wouldn't it be great not to have to cook the next day, Sunday. So knowing that Soliman's BBQ is new in Red Oak, TX,. I saw the bright lights on the building and decided to try it out. First of all it's buffet, not surprising, the restaurant was clean. The business was slow for a Saturday night, but for me that was great to see. Foot traffic soon picked up before I left. For my first time there, I had the pulled pork combo yesterday. One pulled pork sandwich on a 4" bun with two sides and a drink. As soon as I ordered, the butcher began to "chop" a piece of pork shoulder and put it on the bun. For my two sides I chose fries and fried okra. The fries needed to be fried, so I was looking forward to fresh fries. I had tea for my drink. The only thing they asked me was what kind of bbq sauce I wanted, I chose original. I paid for my meal, $10.00, and went and got my drink and table. My order was brought out to me very shortly after sitting down. The "chopped" pork sandwich was flavorless and the meat continuously fell off the bun. I wanted pulled pork, and that is not what I got. The fries were undercooked and soggy and the okra was too crunchy and almost burnt. I think they dropped it in the fryer again before plating it. I'm usually easy to please but this meal was nothing like what I was expecting. Unfortunately, I will not be back. There are too many other good bbq joints in Red Oak and Waxahachie to waste my time or money at Soulman's. Was in on Wednesday the 22nd at 12pm picking up an online order of sliced turkey. After the gentleman who sliced the meat gave me my order, he wiped his nose with the back of his hand WHILE STILL WEARING GLOVES AND WENT RIGHT BACK TO SLICING MEAT!! I witnessed him wipe his nose again, and a 3rd time with the inside of his wrist, all the while still wearing the same gloves and proceeding to slice meat!! I paid for the order before ZI left the house and the line was long, so I tossed my order of sliced turkey in the trash after I left. This is food safety 101, do not touch anything but the food while wearing gloves. Go clean your nose, wash your hands and get a fresh pair of gloves. I feel sorry for the people that were eating there and the people her served after that. His nose was red, and he wiped his nose 3 times that I saw.
