Smokin BBQ always understands the assignment, 10/10! Today I ordered via DoorDash because I'm recovering. I called to verify the menu accuracy & appreciated the compassion & willingness to assist. We don't normally get chicken at a BBQ place but we did this time because we weren't sure what the people we were meeting wanted. We are so glad we did!! The chicken might have been better than the brisket. Sides were really, really good. We had corn, beans (red kidney; so, so good) and the greens which were the perfect blend of vinegar and heat. We left with a Rich-a-rita for each adult and oh my gosh. I am so glad we did!! After a long drive, those ritas hit the spot. I personally liked the spice in the drink. Finally the service. From recommending the greens and margaritas to hooking us up with some extra plates and plastic ware, the owners at Smokin' A's were the best!! Thank you! After seeing one come out of the kitchen, I quickly realized it was massive and way more food than I wanted, so I switched to the one-meat, two-side plate with brisket, greens, and potato salad. The first thing that stood out was the customer service. The young lady at the register was absolutely wonderful--friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely professional. She made ordering easy and set a great tone for the entire visit. Top-tier customer service is becoming rare, and she definitely deserves recognition. As for the food, the brisket was good, and overall the meal was enjoyable. For my personal taste, everything was a bit over-seasoned, especially the greens, which had a strong liquid smoke flavor. That said, I should also mention that I haven't eaten heavily seasoned Southern-style food in quite a while, so my palate is much more sensitive than it used to be. Someone who loves bold, smoky flavors may enjoy it much more than I did. One thing I absolutely loved was discovering that this is actually two businesses sharing one space with Soul Pizza Kitchen. I think that's a beautiful example of collaboration, community, and entrepreneurship. The pizza menu looked incredibly creative, and I'll definitely come back to try one of those soul-inspired pizzas. I always enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses, and it's even more inspiring to see two businesses thriving together under one roof. Wishing both continued success and prosperity.

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if it cracks the Top 10 next time around. This place is exactly what you want in a serious BBQ joint. Small. No frills. Tucked off I-35 in Oak Cliff. A handful of tables inside, a few more outside, and zero wasted energy on anything that doesn't involve the food. That's usually a good sign... and it was. I went all in with the Texas Trinity Plate. Brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño sausage. No regrets. The brisket was the star. Deep, dark bark with a heavy pepper kick that hit right away. Perfect smoke ring. Tender without falling apart. Juicy without being greasy. Every bite had that rich, smoky flavor that separates good BBQ from the real deal. The ribs were solid. Great flavor, nice bite, but leaned a little heavy on the smoke for me. Not a deal breaker, just noticeable. Still very good and worth ordering. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was a win. Juicy, packed with flavor, and just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering everything else. Then the surprise... the sweet potato casserole. That thing deserves its own review. Rich, slightly sweet, and those candied pecans on top took it to another level. Not an afterthought side, this was legit. Bottom line... Smokey Joe's is the kind of place BBQ people talk about when they say "you've gotta try this spot." It absolutely holds its own among the best in Texas, especially outside that elite Top 10 tier. If you're serious about BBQ, don't overthink it. Go.

The presentation was terrible. Who puts cold potato salad with hit food? 2. The menu stated 2 ribs bones. Instead I received a pile of boiled meat that had absolutely no flavor. The smoked wings tasted like tire rubber. Don't ask me how I know what tire rubber taste but if I knew I imagine it would taste like these hard ass wings. 3. The potato salad oh I'm sorry, this damn mashed potato salad taste absolutely horrible. I can't even describe the the taste. On top of that, its running because the baked beans juice run over the compartment. But it's not the beans fault because if the potato salad was chunky it wouldn't have mattered 4. They tried to be fancy with the baked beans with hamburger meat and sausage was an epic FAIL. To try to compensate for their lack of cooking skills they add all an abundance of sugar. So, my overall experience was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!! I always try to give black on businesses a chance a patronize their business even after a lackluster experience but I can't with this place. If I could have rated it a negative 1,000,000,000, i would have. The worst $20 I spent.

HUG BBQ I first…read morediscovered HUG BBQ through Instagram and decided to give them a try -- and I'm glad I did! I've only done take-out so far, and the experience has been solid every time. Ordering at the counter is quick and easy. Depending on how busy they are, I usually wait about 10-15 minutes for my order to be ready. The longest I've waited in line before ordering was maybe five minutes, so definitely not bad at all. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even if occasionally a little distracted by the action in the kitchen (understandable -- it smells amazing back there). I always check my order before leaving, and it's been correct every time. My go-to item starting out was the Sheri's Super Spud -- I always get the two-meat version with brisket and beef sausage. And wow... that potato is huge. Easily feeds two or three people. The brisket usually has a perfect bark and seasoning, though occasionally it leans a bit salty for my taste. But more often than not, it's just right. The sausage is excellent -- a coarse grind with a nice snap from the casing, just the way I like it. I've also tried the Pork Ribs, and they've earned a permanent spot on my order list. Tender, moist, and packed with flavor, with just the right bite off the bone. One little thing I appreciate: they give a generous amount of BBQ sauce with to-go orders -- not the stingy portions some other places give. If you're in or near Lancaster and looking for great BBQ, definitely give HUG a shot. Friendly service, big portions, and solid flavor all around!
