Smokin BBQ always understands the assignment, 10/10! Today I ordered via DoorDash because I'm recovering. I called to verify the menu accuracy & appreciated the compassion & willingness to assist. My food arrived piping hot, plentiful portions, packaged safely & perfectly seasoned/cooked. I immediately smiled & was comforted by the personal touch on my container. That small touch of superior customer service is unmatched. Let's get to the eats! As soon as I walked in, who I believe was the owner greeted me and was one of the kindest, most welcoming people I've met. He took the time to walk me through the menu and answer my questions, which I really appreciated. I ended up ordering one of their loaded potatoes with pulled pork and beef, and it was incredible (you get a good amount of meat) honestly this potato was big enough for two people to share. I also tried the mac and cheese and green beans soooo good! I didn't finish most of it, but only because I had to get back to work I knew if I ate the whole thing, I wouldn't get anything done after! That's how filling it was. The atmosphere was great too. Plenty of seating, multiple TVs playing NCAA games very welcoming vibe. There was a steady flow of takeout orders I can imagine this place gets pretty busy on weekends. As someone from Los Angeles, it was really refreshing to experience such genuine hospitality. You don't always get that level of care and patience when ordering back home. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Dallas so I can come back and try more of the menu.

We went to Smokey Joe's because it landed on the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ list... and I'll say it…read morestraight, it earned every bit of that recognition. Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if it cracks the Top 10 next time around. This place is exactly what you want in a serious BBQ joint. Small. No frills. Tucked off I-35 in Oak Cliff. A handful of tables inside, a few more outside, and zero wasted energy on anything that doesn't involve the food. That's usually a good sign... and it was. I went all in with the Texas Trinity Plate. Brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño sausage. No regrets. The brisket was the star. Deep, dark bark with a heavy pepper kick that hit right away. Perfect smoke ring. Tender without falling apart. Juicy without being greasy. Every bite had that rich, smoky flavor that separates good BBQ from the real deal. The ribs were solid. Great flavor, nice bite, but leaned a little heavy on the smoke for me. Not a deal breaker, just noticeable. Still very good and worth ordering. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was a win. Juicy, packed with flavor, and just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering everything else. Then the surprise... the sweet potato casserole. That thing deserves its own review. Rich, slightly sweet, and those candied pecans on top took it to another level. Not an afterthought side, this was legit. Bottom line... Smokey Joe's is the kind of place BBQ people talk about when they say "you've gotta try this spot." It absolutely holds its own among the best in Texas, especially outside that elite Top 10 tier. If you're serious about BBQ, don't overthink it. Go.

So I have been wanting to try this place for a while, so today I finally got my chance. Soooooo…read moredisappointing. I can't even imagine how they call this BBQ. 1. The presentation was terrible. Who puts cold potato salad with hit food? 2. The menu stated 2 ribs bones. Instead I received a pile of boiled meat that had absolutely no flavor. The smoked wings tasted like tire rubber. Don't ask me how I know what tire rubber taste but if I knew I imagine it would taste like these hard ass wings. 3. The potato salad oh I'm sorry, this damn mashed potato salad taste absolutely horrible. I can't even describe the the taste. On top of that, its running because the baked beans juice run over the compartment. But it's not the beans fault because if the potato salad was chunky it wouldn't have mattered 4. They tried to be fancy with the baked beans with hamburger meat and sausage was an epic FAIL. To try to compensate for their lack of cooking skills they add all an abundance of sugar. So, my overall experience was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!! I always try to give black on businesses a chance a patronize their business even after a lackluster experience but I can't with this place. If I could have rated it a negative 1,000,000,000, i would have. The worst $20 I spent.

HUG BBQ I first…read morediscovered HUG BBQ through Instagram and decided to give them a try -- and I'm glad I did! I've only done take-out so far, and the experience has been solid every time. Ordering at the counter is quick and easy. Depending on how busy they are, I usually wait about 10-15 minutes for my order to be ready. The longest I've waited in line before ordering was maybe five minutes, so definitely not bad at all. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even if occasionally a little distracted by the action in the kitchen (understandable -- it smells amazing back there). I always check my order before leaving, and it's been correct every time. My go-to item starting out was the Sheri's Super Spud -- I always get the two-meat version with brisket and beef sausage. And wow... that potato is huge. Easily feeds two or three people. The brisket usually has a perfect bark and seasoning, though occasionally it leans a bit salty for my taste. But more often than not, it's just right. The sausage is excellent -- a coarse grind with a nice snap from the casing, just the way I like it. I've also tried the Pork Ribs, and they've earned a permanent spot on my order list. Tender, moist, and packed with flavor, with just the right bite off the bone. One little thing I appreciate: they give a generous amount of BBQ sauce with to-go orders -- not the stingy portions some other places give. If you're in or near Lancaster and looking for great BBQ, definitely give HUG a shot. Friendly service, big portions, and solid flavor all around!
