    My breakfast....
    Debra N.

I finished an EKG this morning and had time to run over to Harkness for a takeout breakfast, but sat down to sneak some spoonfuls before my pre-op exam. I I've when they are generous with Portuguese sausage that's a little charred and carmilized...very tasty. Too my surprise, the fried rice had chunks of breakfast sausage and portage sausages. You can just ask the serve for that alone besides bits of eggs. But of course, the eggs were fluffy and plentiful. The lady and cashier were friendly and helpful to me. The dining area was quiet, but wait until lunch comes! Be good to yourself...Ciao!

The Harkness Dining Room at the Queens Medical Center has a wide variety of food options. It's very convenient if you're in the area. As there aren't many other food places within walking distances away from the hospital. Prices have increased over the years to cover cost and inflation, which is understandable. All of the staff I've encountered are very polite, friendly and helpful :) Things are clean, organized and fully stocked. You enter the food area on the left side, and when you're ready to pay, you wait in line by the registers on the right side. Utensils, napkins and condiments are located pass the registers and before the doors. During lunch time (12pm) it can get pretty busy. There are different bottled drinks (kombucha, smoothies, soda, coffee, water, teas, sports drinks, energy drinks), soups, produce, weighted salad bar, flat bread pizzas, packed sushi, pre-made sandwiches, packed salads, pre-made desserts, ice cream, snacks (cookies, marshmallow bar, protein bar, chips, pastries), entrees, breakfast foods in the morning (scrambled eggs, fried rice, spam, Portuguese sausage, corned beef, potatoes), grill short order/ made upon order items (fries, burgers), showcase specials (weekdays, until sold out), and more. The entrees and showcase specials menus are rotating and are posted towards the entrance exit of the dining room. For the grill short order/ made upon order items, you order at the register and pay. Then wait by the grill window on the side with your receipt. Recommended items: The fried rice available during breakfast time is super flavorful and delicious. The pot roast entree is a personal fave of mines. The more popular showcase specials sell out really fast, so get there early if you want dibs. OH! The pre-made Mediterranean Salmon Fatoosh Salad is also a favorite of mines. It's a bit pricier, but the fillet of salmon is pretty big and filling. There are a few tables located within the dining room and a few outside with umbrella shading. If you go down the stairs there are more tables with umbrella shading.

"The hospital dining room- the mixed bag" Hospital dining rooms vary in the quality of offerings. Like an oasis in the middle of a dessert, the hospital dining room provides sustenance and a diversion for one's visit to the hospital. Most of the hospital visitor offerings are meh, and some are down right awful. The Harkness Dining Room is really not bad, and actually quite good. Take my latest foray into the world of hospital dining: I had roast pork with gravy over mash potato. No need for add-ons, just that and a bottle of ice tea. When I ordered it from the server, she said she guaranteed the meat was tender and tasty, and you know what? It was! The selections are decent, they have a salad bar, and the employees are pleasant. Decent seating inside, lots seating outside too. A reasonable option when at Queen's hospital or the POB offices.

$11.50 breakfast from the hot food line. Wouldn't order it again

Due to a family member becoming a patient at Queens, I had dined at the Harkness Dining Hall numerous times. It is a good idea to get here at or before 1130 because the lunch crowd starts at 1145 and the place really fills up. The salad bar looks terrific and I did enjoy my first meal here. I grabbed a tuna sandwich before noticing that the hot food line was offering pastele stew so I switched my lunch to the pastele stew. I thought it was delicious but the white cubes in the stew were not potatoes but pork fat. I went for breakfast one morning and had the fried rice with scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage and pork links. I would not eat the breakfast here again. Some of the rice was so hard that I had to spit it out. The Portuguese sausage was tough, the eggs were soft scrambled and the pork links lacked some flavor. The last time I went for lunch I grabbed that tuna sandwich that I didn't buy the first time. It wasn't good, it was tasteless and I added a little more mayo because the tuna was pretty dry. So I am pretty much over it and will only return to buy beverages.

This hospital cafeteria is pretty close to my office so I check out it's daily specials online. They have some pretty good specials! I love the steak and potato salad and the taco salad. It's definitely not what you expect for hospital cafeteria food - really quite tasty! The prices aren't cheap but are in line with what you'd expect. They also have a salad bar (but not during COVID) and an assortment of grab and go items. I think the grill might be closed during COVID as well. You do need to get temperature checked before entering. It's a hospital, after all, but you gotta appreciate the precautions!

Friendly cashier's, helpful food servers and staff. They take credit cards and cash. COVID adherences apply here. Seating space limited, but there are extra outdoor seating. The Hawaiian style beef stew, pot roast and Tom Yum soup are great.

It was labeled Okinawan roast pork but it's very much beef. Almost $10!

Hospital cafeteria food is what you get. I mean it's average. If you can't leave the hospital then this place will do. Otherwise have a delivery service get it for you and take it to your room. The grill is met yet open as of this week. It's been closed since the beginning of COVID19. Everyone is still socially distancing in the cafeteria. They're true believers here!

Besides a Starbucks is a beautiful you need to check out their mini food court, a "pizza" section by the slice or a whole pie, "simmer" where you can get comfort in a bowl with some hot soup today it was Garden Vegetable and Bacon Corn Chowder, "Bistro" is the hot stuff...burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, and "sips" which is a self serve station for drinks. Today, I just had coffee. Where else in Honolulu can you get a good cup of coffee for $1.25. There is a Starbucks within the complex, but I prefer the cafeteria coffee. There is always something interesting going on in the Cafeteria. Today's Blood Drive brought in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Hawaii. "Review of the mundane- the college cafeteria"…read more Kapiolani Community College has several eating options which range from vending machines to upscale culinary offerings at their dining facilities. In the great in-between lies the cafeteria, located along the great KCC lawn, across from the Lama Library. It is located on the Makai side of the campus. The AC is excellent and is a refuge from the heat and humidity of a hot day. Breakfast is served every weekday morning till 10am. Non-Grill breakfast items are serve yourself and sold by the oz. includes, fried, white and brown rice ( sold by the scoop) and tater tots, scrambled eggs, pork sausage, smoky joes. This limited breakfast buffet is ok, nothing to write home about. If you get your scrambled eggs from the tray after 9am the pickings can be slim and rubbery. At that point I'd stick with their baked goods and coffee for a morning jolt. They sell their delicious scones and biscuits in limited quantities. Lots of beverages, cold and hot, delicious hot entrees for lunch including bentos sometimes. They do not provide cafeteria service after mid-afternoon. Evening meal options on campus are the fine dining Ka Ikena and basically the vending machines. An average college cafeteria with pleasant workers and decent grub. I liked the clean, contemporary look - not at all like a typical student cafeteria. High ceilings, lots of windows with an view of the harbor, and an option for outdoor patio seating. Lunch options were good for the $15 price, all you can eat so you can mix it up. Today was pizza day so I tried a slice - nothing out of the ordinary but it's hard to mess up pizza. They have a grill menu - chicken or ribs today. They also had a pasta of the day. I enjoyed the salad bar which had a good amount of options. Soup and salad was also available. Besides soft drinks, there was a good selection of juices and infused waters and the coffee options were great. For desert, they had cookies but I understand they bake daily so the option changes. There was also fresh fruits - whole or sliced. I hear that the most popular day is Wednesday "poke" day, but for me, I'd go on the less popular days and opt for some quieter time.

They even have a late night special after 9pm ($15)! I came here on a Friday for lunch with some friends. You will enter and pay before dining. We got there at the right time of 11am because a line formed out the door behind us. It was a mix of customers and HPU students. A large party was in front of us and they decided to paid one at a time which probably attributed to the line. They only accept debit or credit as a heads up. When you enter, you'll have the trash and dirty plates immediately to your left. Directly in front of you is the cookie, poke bowl, salad bar and hot bar station. I was told the hot bar menu changes daily. To the right is where you can get pizzas or burgers. In the far back is the utensils and drinks (coffee, fountain soda and infused water). Tables are inside and outside but only inside has AC. Even though we got there at 11am, there were no seats available inside so we had to sit outside. All the customers inside were from breakfast or brunch. It was rather warm outside but the view of the water wasn't bad. Sitting inside would be ideal due to the AC. Hopefully you'll be luckier than we were. The cashier made some jokes while we were in line and paying. Everyone was friendly and helpful. One thing though, my burger wasn't made exactly how I wanted it. I think the guy just assumed I wanted the same cheese as my friend but it was busy and it could happen to anyone. At least Cheddar was less calories than what I planned to order. The burger and poke bowl stations will accommodate if you don't want rice or the burger bun. I got poke without rice and used lettuce as my bun to be healthier. My friends did say the rice was hard. Don't worry, the poke is good and will make up for it. Maybe it was just a bad batch of rice? Their menu lists how many calories are in each item if you're counting calories. You're also able to purchase other drinks in the fridge by the cashier if you don't care for the beverages included with the buffet. Overall, solid AYCE spot where you can take home food that you don't finish. Great value geared toward the college student budget and appetite. 3.5 stars. **A few people asked me why 3.5 stars. They probably didn't expect such a crowd so they probably weren't adequately prepared. The staff still needs to work on timing of dishes, pizza and burgers. At one point, there were no clean plates, pizza was out and the burger line was really long. My burger wasn't the way I wanted but I took it because I didn't want to wait again. Once these issues are addressed, solid 4 star restaurant!

It's a small, but very kitschy little dining room that fits at most 20 tables so definitely go early or pack your patience as you wait for an opening. However, the service is fast, but friendly and they are able to turn the tables with extreme proficiency and also making you feel welcomed. The items to get at Aloha Kitchen are its souffle pancakes and loco moco. The souffle pancakes is essentially the size of the plate that it came on, but because of the airness and lightness of it's execution, you leave feeling full but not weighted down by normal carbs. The recommendation is the coconut macadamia nut pancake with its unique combination of flavor and textures. The other local item is their loco moco. Get it in its tradition form with the hamburger patty with an egg over easy, but add the spam fried rice over the white rice. The combination of flavors along with its terrific gravy makes this a can't miss item on your stay in Hawaii. The one thing to be aware of is, the will announce the name quickly and only a few times and if you're not present after the first few announcements, you'll be marked as a "no show" and will have to go back to the end of the line, so definitely wait out front if you're there any later than opening.
