This place needs more reviews about it as a bar. I rolled the dice and decided to have my birthday party here last night. It was a perfect choice! (aside from the L train getting messed up and making it hard/impossible for some of my friends to get there) I was wary about it being crowded (because what place isn't on a Friday night?) but it never got sardine can jam-packed. I got there at 9 and grabbed a big table, so I was good to go all night. The back patio looked nice, but uh...it's December. The beer selection was awesome, they seemed to have an extensive whiskey list, and their shots poured like shooters. Seriously, it took me 5 or 6 gulps to get them down (and it usually takes me 2 to get a regular shot down because I'm the worst). I didn't have to buy any drinks for myself, as it was my birthday, but they seemed to be reasonably priced for the area. One of my friends that got there early ordered a panini, but apparently it had been the last one. Luckily (or not), White Castle is next door. Anyways, the atmosphere was awesome (lowly lit, but not too dark, with candles on the tables, classy-looking Christmas ornaments hanging) and the crowd was refreshingly unpretentious (maybe Legion being across the street filters out the dirty hipsters). It never got too loud to talk. Also, 2 ladies rooms to one men's room! (but still always a line) I was psyched because I live in Astoria, and so do most of my friends, and I wanted the trip down to Billyburg to be worth it. Mission accomplished. read more

I read fantastic reviews of Harefield Road here on Yelp while searching for restaurants in my new neighborhood. Because it is down the block and because today has been the prettiest Sunday, my husband and I decided to experience that great brunch deal ourselves. Immediately the service was abhorable. The frumpster bartender would not acknowledge my presence, no matter that I tried quite hard to meet her gaze. The wan zombie in plaid (busser? loser-for-hire?) was better about eye contact; unfortunately, he ascribed to the same school of abstract expressionism. I hoped for a menu. It was too much for these two, work ethic or decency be damned. Fifteen minutes later, my husband walked around the restaurant until he found someone willing to act as server. Our server was sweet (deserving of only 15% but also one star), though semi-attentive. He was seemingly unaware that my eggs benedict was served with one teaspoon of hollandaise, all ice-cold, and that my husband's bacon was delivered uncooked. Uncooked, people. Maybe everyone was hungover. Or their dogs just died. Regardless, next time supplement the poor service with something valuable. Like scotch. read more

It's a shame more establishments in Williamburg aren't like this one. Our party was bracing for impact as we entered the restaurant, wincing in anticipation of rampant striped socks/shirts, dudes wearing pants made for women, Chuck Taylors, 1950's military-style glasses, overtly gauche moustaches, and so forth. What we found, however, was.. a bunch of people who wanted to enjoy each others' company over a tasty meal and a few light drinks. Whodathunk. First and foremost, I love the decor in this place. It's very rustic and European. The floor is composed of these giant, widely-spaced timbers which will swallow spare change and pens if you aren't careful. The colour palette is dark earth tones contrasted with spots of exposed brick and creme textures. Very comfortable. The menu is varied, and offers something for everyone. We started with drinks -- they make a mean Bloody Mary, with no small amount of spice and a dash of paprika to top it off. One of our party had the French Toast, which was actually a giant mountain of fresh berries piled atop thick slabs of delicately cooked and seasoned toast. Others went for the classic Eggs Benedict; I eagerly wolfed mine down and considered ordering another just to keep having the flavour sensations firing in my brainmeats. This place was definitely a bit of a jaunt from our usual brunching area in Greenpoint, but was certainly worth the trek. I would probably make this place a haunt if I lived closer. read more

Harefield Road will forever be known to me as the place I was when Barack Obama was elected president. It was truly a beautiful moment in history. I'd never experienced so many people watching CNN and cheering at percentage points in my life. It was stuffy, standing room only and no one seemed to mind. I have never been so proud of my fellow Brooklynites and NY'ers. Oh, right, the review.... My bf, friend and her new guy all came here for brunch essentially so I could meet her new guy and do my duty as a friend and see if he seemed nice. For the record I approved. So I've never gotten off at this subway stop believe it or not so it took me awhile to find this place, even though it was ridiculously close to the subway station, it's not my fault there was construction going on. Anyways once I found it the inside décor was dark... but there was an outside patio!!! So that's obviously where I sat. Their brunch deal was great, 13 bucks gets you an entree, a drink and coffee. Went last weekend.. Pretty late on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised that it was nice and spacious. It was not packed or empty - best way to be. Lately, I have found that W-burg bars are crowding up like never before, so this was refreshing! The decor is lovely with old wood bar, floors and nice mirrors. I can be pretty forgiving when it comes to service - I mean, Shopsin's is one of my favorite places - but the excessive confusion (mine and the absentee waitresses and the host) and haphazard delivery of service was beyond me. It's true I arrived at the 1pm peak brunch hour, but for an establish which more people know as a brunch place then a bar (I am not one of these people) I expected theses kinked to have been worked out long ago. The $12 brunch special is a deal, but only if you specify that you indeed want it all... it didn't occur to me that at a pre-fixe only place I would have to actually tell my waitress I want the accompanying coffee, but this became evident when 2 cups showed up at 4 person table. In fact our entire order lacked any qualifying questions leading to the any style eggs being truly "any style," the coffee debacle(I never got any), and even our mimosas, which 2 of us did manager to actually order, didn't show up until the middle of our meal and only after asking another waitress twice. I am so thankful we already had a Cholua hot sauce on the table, I never would have gotten one otherwise. But it was here that I performed a miracle! While telling some story I made a sweeping hand gesture and my giant full water glass hurled towards my BF's lap. Miraculously the water leaped over his lap and splish splashed all over the floor. Paralyzed, I watched as three girls sprung up from the table next to us and waited for the screaming to begin; but they paid their bill and walked out... then a waitress came over and didn't even flinch at the giant pool of water shimmering on the floor. I have a fear that no matter how isolated you are, you cannot escape the shameless self promotion of Williamsburg establishments. This heavy smattering of ads spans across beatnik and contemporary platforms alike, seemingly taking whatever form necessary in order to fit the bill of the "this is what you need to be doing if you're even remotely cool (you unhip piece of shit!)" attitude. From the Martha Steward Show, to the indoctrinated holy grail that is the New York Times, to that bearded exubrant guy on channel 13 that feeds the volvo-stained hands of NY Locavores, there's no way you're escaping . I speak of nothing new. Go wherever you like, but local progressiveness will coagulate, then catch fire in the heart of the masses and finally it will be jammed deep into your skull with an obsequious force Heman could not "have the power" to match. Thankfully, Harefield Road has a $12 no frills brunch on the weekends...20 odd blocks clear of Bedford Avenue. We tried this place on a "16, feels like 2" January Saturday at 11am and were not let down. This establishment has a laid back friendly vibe with fresh brunch fixins to boot. I grabbed the Harefield Eggs: 2 poached eggs on top of lox and english muffin...the less rich, better alternative to eggs benedict no matter where you are option! This was quite fabulous...the eggs were done to perfection and everything was very fresh including the salmon which tasted impeccable with rich yellow yolk dripping about it. This came with home fries and some fruit which were not abundant but didn't need to be...just fine. My girlfriend snagged the Huevos Rancheros and my friend tried the Breakfast Burrito...both were devoured with nary a complaint. I tasted both and was impressed. We only had 2/3rds of our party when we walked in, and they wouldn't seat us until everyone was there, but they let you sit at the bar and help yourself to coffee. My girlfriend asked for tea which was served without a problem. The Bloody Mary's were a ubiquitous choice amongst our party and I have to ISSUE CAUTION upon ordering this! As you know, the deal comes with your choice of Mimosa or Bloody Mary. Next time, it's Mimosa all the way for me. The Bloody Mary had bits and particles and "chunks" (according to my girlfriend) and was downright unpleasant. I'm by no means a Bloody Mary connoisseur, but I feel that Tomato Juice should be thick and smooth and be accompanied by alcohol and a dash of heat (that shouldn't be chunky)...also celery and not an olive. All in all a great experience and great deal with friendly staff and a laid back vibe....and most importantly the food holds it's own. A nice little spot on what was a barren stretch. My only complaint is if you are going to have burgers, even if it is brunch, you should offer French fries. I thought this place was... OK. I mean, there was nothing wrong w/ it, in fact it was fine. But, it's just brunch, so to speak. Perfectly fine generic brunch. I'd have given a 3.5 if i could, but I rounded down b/c of all the 5s. I don't quite get the hoopla. Again, they have eggs benedict, a quesadilla, I think there are omelettes, probably a pancake or waffle dish - all the brunch faves. Plus it's prix fixe and you get a free bloody or mimosa. But there's nothing special about the place. If you happen to be in that east-ish corner of Willamsburg and you need brunch, by all means. But if you want more character, there are many other places in that part of Brooklyn - Moto and Marlowe & Sons (both more westerly), to name just two of my faves. I had the smoked salmon w/ cream cheese, onions, capers on pumpernickel toast. Again, nothing wrong w/ it. The coffee wasn't great, and that I DO consider a big deal. Good coffee isn't that hard to do. Also, the bloody mary was too spicy. You should taste spice in a bloody, but not ONLY spice. Always busy, the waits are short. Very pleasant atmosophere, changes the way you feel about a weekend day in the city. Very courteous owner. Hip, funny staff. Short well-trimmed menu. The gourmet quality food, comes fast. Excellent portions--my favorite is the Harefield Eggs. And the Brunch menu is $12 for entree, mimosa or bloody mary and all you can drink coffee (they'll serve it to you, but there's a refill station tucked in the front corner of the bar when you first walk in) What else to say? The brunch is deliscious. The Smithwicks is cold and tasty. And when they're not serving food they have a large pile of menus to choose for delivery. Considering this is part of the new Williamsburg topography, this bar has a pretty warm authentic neighborhood feel. The owner, an Irish guy, is friendly and often bartends. They have a good selection of beers and decently priced cocktails. The crowd, big on the weekends, tends not to be very diverse though. Also there's not much variety in the music, as each of the dozen or so times I've been there it's been classic rock and not much else. It's sister bar, Matt Torrey's has a more polished, less rustic, open layout. I like the huge windows facing the street, the mirrors, the long bar, and the booths. There are, however, flat screen TVs showing sports and the place never seems to fill up. All in all, Harefield is a solid local bar. Not always easy to find a seat though... read more

Why does this place have such high rating?? First of all, the service is extremely slow- so slow to a point that I've finished two drinks and my food wasn't even here yet. The harefield eggs were alright, not too bad. However, the eggs were a bit over cooked and the home fries had way too much seasoning. It had soooooooooooooooooo much seasoning that the black pepper were overwhelming and I had to drink a sip of my water after each bite. A Sunday morning oasis in Hipsterville. While I've never seen more people in one place getting dressed up to look dirty, at least the Dirty know how to brunch it. $12 gets you a brunchy item--think eggs benedict, turkey club wrap, poached eggs over lox, breakfast burritos--in addition to unlimited coffee and your choice of bloody mary or mimosa. i'd say that's a pretty sweet deal... Only four stars because my wrap was totally over-loaded with ranch dressing--I know that would be reason for more stars to some people, but it made it slightly hard to choke down. I've only been here for brunch so far, and it's one of the best spots for brunch in my immediate neighborhood. Only a block from the Graham Ave stop on the L too, so it's very convenient. $12 gets you bottomless coffee (it's good coffee too), a mimosa or bloody mary, and your brunch food of choice: challah french toast, eggs benedict, omelette, huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, etc. Pretty good deal if you ask me! And the food is top notch. Their home fries have tons of flavor and everything is very fresh. If your meal comes with fruit, it's FRESH fruit, not some nasty fruit cocktail! Another great thing about this place is that there are a few large tables so you can bring a large group of friends to brunch with you. It's a good deal. The service is quick and friendly. I really liked this spot. A couple work friends and I wanted to stop for a drink right off the L, and when we got out at Graham Ave, the one Williamsburg-ian in the group suggested Harefield Road. It was a Monday night, so it was quiet. The wooden tables and all the details of the bar are really inviting on what was a cold autumn night. It seemed to be a spot located just far enough out to avoid the stereotypical crowd that descends on parts of Williamsburg. They had a great selection of beers, and while I was tempted to order more whiskey to sit and sip, I got something a little lighter. They had an interesting list of cocktails on the wall, and my one friend wound up getting a glass of wine, but both of those menus were a little hard to see the way the bar was lit at the time. I'm sure if I was curious enough, the bartender would've been happy to let me know what was written there. I will definitely come back next time I need a solid bar right off the L. read more

I la-la-la-la-LOVE this bar. My 5 block radius, admittedly, does not have much to boast of. But this bar helps my area redeem itself. I don't need to get into what a deal the brunch is (it really is); but it even tastes pretty damn good too. It's standard brunch fare, but a reasonably-priced, properly made eggs benedict will never go unpraised in my book. I wish they serve lunch as well, but unfortunately, they do not. It's OK though because their happy hour starts at 4, and they have a gorgeous back patio. Which I'm enamored with. Did I mention that the happy hour is $3 well drinks, and Shock Tops. Plus, all the hard-boiled eggs you can eat. Which, is traditional British thing (cute isn't it?). I've eaten more eggs than I'd like to admit. It's almost never too crowded here. Sometimes I enjoy likening restaurants to people- so in this case, Harefield Road for me describes this friend of a friend that you'll see occasionally.. He wears J. Crew corduroy pants (not baggy, not tight), a North Face Denali jacket, a pair of Ray Ban frames with prescription lenses, and either Sorel's or boat shoes depending on the season. He's friendly, but you don't have much in common, and the vibe isn't there- so neither of you really make the effort to get to know one another but you both keep a certain level of cordiality for the sake of your mutual friend. Once in a while, he'll say a joke that actually makes you laugh, and you both bond over an admiration for the album Rubber Soul... Basically, what I'm trying to say is, if the mutual friend moved to Washington DC or Chicago, you wouldn't be too bummed. He probably wouldn't have invited you to his going away party anyhow, and it doesn't matter- you would be out spending time with people that you truly cared for. read more

When I first moved to Bushwick I did a lot of summer 2 pm hair-of-the-dog brunches at Harefield Road. The fixed menu is solid, with all the basic options, and the drinks are good too. Wait staff is super nice, although, the wait can get a bit out of long on the weekends after 1 pm. I love this bar as a late night, on the way back to Bushwick. The bartenders are friendly and do not mind when I ask questions about their selection, or am indecisive at the bar. Very relaxed atmosphere. I'd come here for drinks before but never for brunch, mostly due to a warning about a bad breakfast burrito years ago - so, years later, decided to give the food a try. It would have been really good if I had been hungover. It was all very oily. I ordered the turkey club because I thought it might have been lighter than some of the other options. Not so. Very greasy, thick bacon, heavy on the mayo. Kind of delicious, but wow, not at all what I was expecting of a turkey club. And the rosemary potatoes were too small and drowning in oil. And the "salad" had no dressing and was not fresh at all, was not delicious at all. I also sampled the turkey wrap, which was mostly mayo, bacon bits, and lettuce in a flavorless tortilla. And I tried the cajun chicken sandwich, where the chicken had been pounded so flat that it was almost nonexistent. Not bad of a bloody mary tho. Good and spicy. But my Irish Breakfast tea arrived lukewarm. I hate that. And the coffee was kind of icky. I do appreciate that $12 for brunch includes coffee or tea, plus a bloody mary or mimosa. I remember when all brunches included drinks, and then they stopped doing that, so props to Harefield for staying with the economic times. We did have to wait 45 minutes for our table tho. This is my neighborhood bar, as it's literally a 35 second bike ride away from my apartment. So, I'm down to go here for a drink any time with friends or even alone. Great draft specials, friendly bartenders, and cozy decor. Also had a few first dates here (because I am lazy and it's 35 seconds away from my apt). I've been here for drinks 87 times, and brunch once just because the line always looked annoying. Brunch is a good deal as everyone stated. $12 for meal, alcohol and coffee. This place is great! My friends and I walked to this place from her apartment. The best thing about this place is that brunch is a set $13... for a main dish, an Irish coffee or tea, AND a mimosa! What a deal! Also it's CASH ONLY MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CASH! The atmosphere was really nice! They also have a nice back patio area and it was a warm 60 degrees the day we went. The interior is very cozy and very upbeat. Small thing to note that was a big deal to me: I love, I repeat, I LOVE it when restaurants give you your own water bottles so you can refill at your own leisure instead of asking the already busy waiters to give you more water. It's more efficient and it tastes better to me that way (haha). I got the Harefield Eggs and added a side of bacon. It was a great portion and the home fries were really good! My friend got the Huevos Rancheros and her boyfriend got the Chicken Caesar Salad. We were stuffed by the end of brunch! this place is a gem in the rough! I live in the slightly less developed, slightly "east" williamsburg area. Very close to this establishment lies a white castle and an OTB. there's just not enough yummy places to eat here (yet. give it 5-10 yrs, maybe less) Anyway I live very close to here, so I'm quite happy to have harefield road here for weekend brunch. The price is right ($11 for main dish, alcoholic bev and tea or coffee), the waitstaff is super friendly and the food itself is SO fresh and tasty! They only serve food 2X/wk, so that means all ingredients are fresh and have not been sitting around for hours (or days for that matter). The cobb salad is my fave. It's got just the right amount of everything. no overload of blue cheese. the bloody mary's are made well, nice and spicey! Omlettes and the burger are good too. haven't tried the rest yet. Overall the place has an Irish pub feel (the owners are from Ireland and pronounce it HAR-field, not "HAIR"-field like most ny'ers would think) nice and dark, nice big hunks of wood for tables and floors. read more

Eek! Went back on Sunday and it was really awful this time around. Our lanky, too cool for school server left much to be desired. I totally understand that brunch was busy and there would be a wait for your food, but when several people got their food before us, even though he took their order after ours, that's a problem. So we got up left. He comes outside to say our food is ready and we're wrong, all those people sat BEFORE us. Try again sweetie. Went to DuMont for great food and even better service instead. I won't say don't go to Harefield Road, but I would say don't expect too much. Another awful tidbit- my boyfriends cup had lipstick on it. They have a phenomenal bartender. I have no idea who the bartender(s) is/are since I was seated, but their drinks are really tasty, well mixed, and strong. Very super place. The brunch menu has something for whatever you may be feeling for brunch. Go early if you don't want a horrendous wait. Totally worth it though. So good! read more

One of my favorite low-key bars. A go-to date spot when I lived in Williamsburg and wanted to link up with my Bushwick buddies. With tea candles warming old wooden fixtures, the atmosphere feels intimate and authentic. The music is always amazing at Harefield too! They play incredible DJ sets and live music, which draws interesting, dynamic crowds. On more mellow nights, I have visited the bar alone and the tender has supplied engaging conversation. Be aware that the bar is cash only; fortunately there is an ATM toward the back porch. read more

Nice bar, better brunches. Had a very tasty heuvos rancheros here and a nicely prepared bloody mary. I can't pin down the character of the place but its playful, but also mature. As other people have said, a more chill, less needlessly ironic crowd gathers here. Right in walking distance of the Graham L stop its a great place to meet up and easy to get to (assuming you can get to the L). Outdoor seating is a definite bonus. read more

Yeah, it's a brunch place. BUT, their french toast is actually pretty good. Lots of fruits and crunchy bacon. Also, for $12, you get coffee, a Bloody Mary and a meal. It was also really laid back. read more
