I absolutely loved the quaint two floor yesterday. My family and I went for Saturday brunch. We ate on the 2nd floor because there was a baby shower on the first. We came here for our anniversary dinner. We called ahead and lady was kind to accommodate our request for a corner table view harbor view. The restaurant gets 4 stars for location and view but zero star for the quality of food served. We ordered thai calamari, pecan crusted tilapia, & Red snapper. The pecan crusted tilapia was the worst food I have ever eaten. There was no crust it was soggy, gooey uncooked frozen fish. Just completely gross. We both felt sick after eating that. Other dishes were just average. The service was average as well. It's saddening to see a beautiful location that could could do so much better. The management need to focus on food quality. Long story short: totally not worth the time and money. The food is decent and the view is great, but that didn't matter given how lethargically slow and inattentive the service was, and how expensive my meal was. In the strongest possible terms, I do not recommend going here. If you want the backstory: wanting to celebrate my mother's birthday with a group of friends and family, I did some research and came across Harbor Mist. Even though there were more negative/mediocre reviews on Yelp (compared to other seafood restaurants) and the New York Times review had highlighted the bad service - I disregarded these warning signs because I was so enamored by the view. So as much as I will fault Harbor Mist for my poor experience, I also blame myself for ruining my mother's birthday dinner. Here's the main problem with Harbor Mist - while every restaurant has their off-nights in terms of service, this seems more like a systematic problem for this restaurant: for all parties (as documented by other Yelp reviews) there was an automatic 20% tip added on to the bill (we were only 5 people) - thereby removing any incentive for the staff to be attentive. And in retrospect, what transpired should've been of no surprise: our food took 45 minutes to arrive. I recall asking 4 different people about why the food was taking so long: one waiter flat out lied and said it was coming (at the 30 minute mark); no one proactively checked in on my table during this time; and when asked about the wait, not one of these individuals apologized for the wait. On the contrary, we were told a 45 minute wait for entrees is normal. And that's fine if that's how things work here - but for everyone else reading this, consider yourself warned. As such, being forced to pay a generous tip for an expensive yet extremely sub-standard experience is really what angered me. (By the way, I do not recall the menu noting that a 20% tip was included on all parties - I shall return to check on this and also ask around regarding the legality of this practice.) My advice: think carefully about whether you want to come here. Roughly 25% of recent Yelp reviews are 1s and 2s. If you're going out for an expensive seafood dinner - while it's possible your experience might be better than mine - do you really want to run a 25% chance that your experience will be poor? Moreover, do you really want to take this risk even with several highly rated seafood restaurants in the Cold Spring Harbor area? Don't make the mistake I made. read more

Shrimp risotto and steamed mussels entrees are very good. All postions are generous. Italian cheese cake is light and not over sweet as are the tiramisu and flourless choc cake. My husband and I had dinner last week at Harbor Mist and it was pretty awful. I had the papperdelle with a gooey tomato sauce that was made with ground pork, beef abnd veal. My husband had beef short ribs in a red wine sauce. The beef was tender but it tasted as though, when the meat was tender, the red wine was just poured on top of the meat - such a very strong wine taste and not pleasant. No delicacy here at all. Maybe the fish is good, idk, but save your money and go to a great restaurant in Cold Spring Harbor called Trattoria Grasso. That's good eatin'. It is an expensive restaurant and you sit outside in the parking lot and hear the roar of the traffic going by. Also, it's pretty stinky from the sewage coming from somewhere. read more

Ambience: nicer upscale area. This place is located right across from the water.This place is an older style Long Island house converted into business use. Not very impressive. Not much decor inside and the walls are a off yellow color. This place looked like it had a fire place at one point but it currently sits covered up with what looks like a sideways door and some ugly green marble. FYI the tables outdoors are tiny and the tops are made of sharp stone. Service: we went there for lunch. I'm guessing people do not order beer here because the waiter did not know what was available. I was not offered pepper or fresh cheese for my pasta dish. The table next to us was given this option. Food: we tried to order the lobster roll but were told they ran out ( it was 2pm!!). I ordered the linguini and pasta dish which was not bad but nothing to rave about. Overall: nice location. Not so great service. And OK food. Would I come back? Probably not. There are much nicer restaurants around the area especially with Huntington village so close by. I would probably not recommend this place. We were treated like royalty! We just had a birthday party for my husband yesterday with approximately 45 to 50 people. The food choices were plentiful. Everything was prepared beautifully, delicious and fresh thanks to the skill of co-owner/chef Ramon and genius of co-owner Barman. The service was impeccable! The waiters and staff are out there to please you with excellent service. Eight - ten people greeted me at my truck to help unload flowers, balloons and anything else I needed to have done. We had music and dancing. We never felt rushed to leave and all our guests thoroughly had an amazing time. We went here for brunch noontime on a Saturday. The location is charming, overlooking Cold Spring Harbor on one side and a state park on the other. The food was quite good. My friend and I both ordered the prix fix brunch. My assorted seafood starter was excellent the oysters and shrimp were both fresh and delicious. The shrimp was sizable, but it would have been nice to have more than one included. I ordered the crab cakes as my main, which actually only included one, but it was sizable and delicious. My friend ordered the cream of asparagus soup and eggs Benedict. The soup was light, yet hearty. The eggs Benedict needed some salt, but were cooked beautifully. After hiking in Cold Spring Harbor we decided to stop in here for lunch. The view upstairs was very nice and the service was excellent, although there were only 4 tables occupied including us so it would be pretty sad to have bad service..... The humus and bread sticks thye put on the table were good, for some reason they put olive oil on top which is really not necessary. We just had salads, soup and apps so can't rate other food. We had the crab cocktail which was plentiful and very fresh. The clam chowder was excellent, but they don't have oyster crackers, which is practically a sin in my book. The salads were very blah, the spinach salad was fresh but had basically no flavor even though they called it a citrus vinaigrette, and the Caesar was definitely bottled dressing. I would give it another try for dinner because everything seemed very fresh. IMO they just need to kick up the flavoring a notch :) read more

Amazing place. It is situated right off the water which makes for an amazing view. I think a really important aspect is how great the staff is. From my experience they have always been very kind and accommodating. If you have any concerns they always hear you out and try to help which is important. It feels very individualized, not like your some fleeting consumer. The food and menu is traditional, and excellent. Great crab cakes, oysters, clams, and salmon. Always consistent. Harbor mist is always a good bet. You can count on service and the quality of food which is really all you ever want when you go out and spend money on a nice dinner. We just had a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch at the Harbor Mist! The food was great-- the seafood was fresh and nicely seasoned. My son greatly enjoyed his surf and turf steak and lobster tail. We dined outside, and the tables were comfortably spaced and ventilated. I can't say enough about how good the service was, and that compliment applies to all the staff who were involved. Everyone there was polite, efficient and helpful. They were quite busy, but did not let that impact at all on our dining experience. I can't wait to go back for the next special occasion. Just stopped in for lunch cant say I'll be back. Beside the lackluster menu for non fish eaters the food we did order was nothing special. Small burger with an oversized bun one tomato and some almost white lettuce and fish and chips for my counterpart. I also got the potato soup which tasted just like just add water potato soup mix from the store super bland very thin. We got rum cake for desert very dry not the moist soaked in rum texture I was expecting. When the check came I was blown away $60! They didnt bother to mention that each fountain drink including club soda was $3 a piece no free refills. And the drinks are small easily less then a can so you go through them fast. Over all total rip off meal was worth a third of what we ended up paying. Dont believe the hype the view is the only thing spectacular here. read more

We were seated immediately without reservations because it was pretty empty. But wait, it was empty, so why did our food take so long? My friend has been here before and had great service. She recommended this place to me. We came for brunch and the food was delicious; oysters fresh, calamari sweet, and eggs benedict perfect. I had a sangaria which was also good. My friend's english muffin came out burnt which led her to be even more annoyed since the food took 40 minutes minimum to arrive. Not a big deal for us and we continued on with our meal. Our friends took us out for our anniversary on Sunday, it was a beautiful day and we wanted to sit upstairs to look out on the beautiful bay however there was a party going on so they seated us down stairs so had practically no view of the bay however, the service was pretty good and the food was delicious we all had a really nice brunch. I was a guest for a birthday dinner at Harbor Mist last Saturday night. The birthday girl's mom and I both arrived early and waited at the almost empty bar where the bartender repeatedly asked us if we wanted drinks until the manager stopped him. Eventually, the rest of our party arrived and we were seated at a table right by the picture window, not much to see at night though. I noted there were few other diners there. The waiter got the birthday girl's wine order wrong and couldn't remember who ordered what. I got the filet mignon and fries. The steak was excellent and cooked perfectly. Sadly, the fries seemed like they were frozen, not fresh cut. OK but not at these prices. The waiter was somewhat confused when bringing the desserts though everything was straightened out. I got the chocolate mousse cake and it was good and large enough that I couldn't finish it. We were treated to a bottle of chocolate wine. Overall a pleasant experience. We had a nice late lunch here. The ambiance was very nice inside with a bit of a water view and a park view. The New England Clam chowder, was one of the better ones I have had lately. Not too thick or thin, decent amount of clams and bacon, potatoes while larger in size were cooked through. The mussels and their broth were delicious. The pork chop was spicy but good. I went to this place for brunch with friends because we heard they had decent brunch menu. We went with the prefix meal option which was decently priced and it was bottomless. I ordered the fish taco thingies that were really bland and disappointing. My friend's did not enjoy their entree's either everything was bland and tasteless. The mimosas were not very strong and all around the food was disappointing. I only gave it two stars because the decor and set up were nice and the view was lovely.
