Will def be back here for sure. seriously the buratta with strawberries was amazing. no one else has ever thought of that delicious combo lol. My wife and I went to dinner at Harbor Mist tonight for our date night as I've heard a lot of great things and we've passed it so many times we finally decided to give it a try. What a horrible decision that was. We were given bread and some kind of hummus which was not good. We ordered drinks which, for some reason, came in the incorrect glasses. We split a Cesar salad that was mediocre at best and ended up to be the highlight of the meal. I ordered the short ribs which were tender but the taste reminded me of something that would come out of a gross cafeteria. I would not recommend. My wife ordered the "special" which was salmon and pasta and she describes it as "gross with barely any salmon in it". It had zero flavor and upon mentioning to the waitress that it wasn't good she really didn't seem to care. It took about an hour to receive our food. Truthfully, I wouldn't serve this to my dog. The drinks were strong so that's just about the only plus from the evening. read more

Easy breezy place by the water - the food is very good but the service is odd. Had the recommended Pork Chops Michelle and they were perfectly cooked - a thick pork chop nice and juicy with a great pepper sauce. The waiter was weird though - did a lot of reaching his hand through my personal space to access other people's water glasses, etc. It was as if he'd never been a waiter before. Ambiance is sorta cheesy but totally fine for being on the main drag. Moral of this review - definitely worth a shot, try the pork! read more

A very unpleasant experience. Called at 6pm to ask if seating is available. The lady on the phone was nice enough to say it's walk-in and first come first serve. Arrived at 730pm to find it's a 30 min wait and a lot of tables are reserved?! Sat down at 8pm and waited for 1 hour for food while others who arrived later than us got food. Also asked for a water cup for at least three times which never came. The waiters apologized for the service and the mess up and promised to take something off the bill which didn't happen. Mandatory 20% tips charged to our bill. Left knowing there is no way we will ever visit this place again. Posting for the first time because of such a horrible dining experience. read more

It used to me much better. Seems they cater to the rich now. The menu is now smaller and restrictive. They upped the prices on everything and took off many menu items that were more reasonable like the tuna tacos and the Flounder sandwich. The live music is the shining star, but you are in a parking lot. Service is hit or miss, I've had great service and I have really bad service. Just wish they would go back to the old menu or have more of a variety of price points and kinds of food. read more

In short, I really loved everything about my experience at Harbor Mist. My girlfriend and I went on a Sunday night and it was not too busy, but definitely not slow. The restaurant had a very homey and personal feel to it. Everyone - from the hostess seating us too our waiter - was extremely friendly. We were seated within 5 minutes in a beautiful upstairs dining room and were immediately greeted by our friendly waiter. He got us bread (and more quickly when we asked after running out) and took my drink order promptly. Our food came out fresh and didn't take too long, but not to the point where you thought it was just heated up or something. The food was delicious also...extremely fresh! No one was pushy, constantly coming back to our table - everyone was just very friendly and wanting to help. I'd 100% come back! read more

this review is more for the service rather than the food. the food was great! tender lobster, juicy steak, and wonderful steak. but the service was awful. upon getting seated it took 30 minutes itself for the waitress to arrive and ask if we wanted drinks or appetizers, then upon placing that order another 30 minutes for those to arrive. for our mains, it took about an hour and 15 for 3 entrees to come out. our dinner reservation was at 7:45 and we didn't end up getting our food until 9:45-ish. such a frustrating dinner, please don't come hungry. read more

We had dinner about a month ago at harbor mist and it was fabulous. Returned last night with friends and it felt like we were at a different restaurant. The service was awful. We had to keep asking for bread, water ,plates cleared and each time had to wait forever. We had a 7:30 reservation. Appetizers weren't served til 8:45 and entrees until 9:30. Waiter kept saying its coming. We spoke to a manager? who put the blame on not enough help due to people getting unemployment instead of working. You can't blame this on everything. He took off the cost of an inedible pork chop and comped our alcohol but I doubt we'll return. Too bad because they have a great outdoor setup and really good live music. read more

Great food, nice ambiance. Will definitely return. Will be more detailed the next time.

Just returned from the Harbor Mist restaurant in Cold Spring Harbor. My wife enjoyed the Sea Scallops and I had the Chicken Francese. My meal was disappointing. It was bland and lacking the lemon flavor I expected. The pasta it came with was uninspired. I will say I enjoyed the chocolate mousse cake. read more

Terrible experience. Food was absolutely nothing special. Bland. Chicken was burnt. Hair on my plate. Our Mozzarella app tasted very off, and sour. Couldn't even tell the waiter about the issue because he NEVER checked on us. NOT ONCE. Spoke the the owner after the meal, was told he would comp the bill, after checking my bank statement, it was never done. Called the owner to talk to him about it and he was not kind or helpful. Won't be going back. But if you do. Enjoy the boring, bland food. And for the record I have never written a review. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 17 years. I know it well. I know good food I know good service. read more

Very nice converted home with cozy ambience and beautiful view of the lake. Food and service is very good. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening b

Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night for the first time And had a great experience, staff was great food was excellent and the decor was nice and cozy with a beautiful view, especially if you sit upstairs. I had the ravioli which I had asked if the chef could take out the meat products(I'm a pescatarian) and the waiter said no problem. The ravioli was very good and it was nice of them to change it because some restaurants will give you a hard time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Amazing view, delicious food and impeccable service! So glad I stumbled upon this place! Everything was fantastic! The restaurant was overall very good. The food was nice and server were kind. Located nearby ocean, I liked it very much

Pretty impressed that a restaurant like this existed close to where I live especially since my town seems to be flooded mainly with chain restaurants. Finding a hidden gem like this (with such a beautiful view) definitely makes my love for Long Island grow. I came here for the first time on Mother's Day after comparing reviews both on Yelp and on Open Table (mainly because I procrastinated and I needed a reservation ASAP at the best time available at my convenience). The reservation went smoothly- I got seated within minutes of arriving, there was plenty of parking, the water with the dock right across the street for great photo opportunities. The restaurant has two floors of seating (with a bar on the first floor as well to your left). The interior of this restaurant is so beautifully renovated. It feels so homey, romantic, and child friendly all at the same time. The noise level was a little loud but the tables all had adequate space in between so it was still pretty private as we couldn't hear another table's conversation. Onto the food: 1) Potato crusted salmon: very fluffy and not heavy in flavor with a deliciously flaky crust. (The one thing that could've made this dish perfect was if the fish itself was hotter in temperature) 2) Seafood Linguine: holy cow, my mom and I completely underestimated how big this dish actually was. It was overflowing with a variety of seafood. The pasta was not mushy and did not reek of any seafood. It had its very own flavor, which made the dish work so well. 3) Stuffed Pork of Loin: the pork was a little dry but the roasted tomatoes, broccoli and Marsala wine concoction helped it go down very easily. (To perfect this dish: more of the sauce please!) read more

We went to Harbor Mist because it was the only place I could find with a view of the water - but boy did we luck out! Wound up going back twice during our long weekend trip. First of all, the fresh Blue point Oysters were the best I've ever had by far. they served them with a wonderful Mignonette, and while the restaurant didn't create the oysters, they sure served them up fresh. We also had baby blue clams with soffrito - nice and spicy, and requiring lots of bread to sop up every last bit of the sauce. Hubby had excellent chowder and a crab cake - both of which were also great. The atmosphere was nice as well - nice and calm with the aforementioned view if you are upstairs on the windows. I will comment that if you aren't a Billy Joel fan come prepared - the place is across the street from Billy Joel park and every third song seemed to be his. Finally, the staff were nice and accomodating, and served up a nice wine list, as well as generous pours of quality Bourbon. This was one of those places where the food was simple, well executed, and served in an atmosphere that makes me want to return - alas I don't live there! read more

Can't say I'm a regular here but to try something new and adventurous we sat down the first time to celebrate my grandmother visiting From Korea. The view was lovely and we came during the beautiful sunset, despite it being late for the sunset special the server still offered us the 3-course special. The service was wonderful. I had the clam chowder and it was so rich and delicious I was amazed. My brother also had the Thai calamari and that was easily the best thin we had in the evening. The chicken entrees was delicious and the pasta as well. We had so much food we didn't even have room for dessert and had the carrot cake to go. My siblings and I very rarely go out to eat in this area but we'll definitely be back! It was such a warm atmosphere and the service and food brightened our evening immensely. What well-trained and polite staff! read more

There's a place in this world for Harbor Mist... Well, at least on this Island. And I am going to find it, because I'm not sure the way I used it on my first visit was best. First, there were so many great suggestions written by other reviewers that I could not find, only to later find they were on the bar menu. Second, we went the Italian food route, and I have a particular set of expectations when it comes to pricy Italian food, especially if it's stuff I can cook at home. The atmosphere at Harbor Mist (in the main restaurant, second level) is wonderful, classy, and updated. Not so for the bar, but that bar serves its purpose. So we picked the Butchers Plate to start, which we were hoping would rival some of the best charcuterie plates we've had, but it fell a bit flat. Felt a bit like a cold cut platter thrown together at your aunt's house for your cousin's graduation party. It wasn't bad, but it just felt store bought. Now, mind you, this item's price point was actually pretty low, 14 bucks I think. My wife ordered the Chicken Scarpiello and I ordered the Lobster Fra Diavolo. To be fair, they both were just that... Fair. My sauce should have been spicier, and the lobster tail was a bit over cooked while the shrimp was under cooked. It just didn't feel like a $32 entrée. Her entrée was fairly portioned, everything was cooked right, it was just missing a bit of zing. Again, not really what she expected from a $26 entrée. Our local favorite Ciros in Kings Park could do both of those for 25% less and hit the bullseye. With the bottle of wine I purchased, this just didn't feel quite like a $160 dinner, but that's what it cost (aside from the $30 I dropped in the bar beforehand because my table wasn't ready on time for our reservation). I won't end it here, I will say that I will come back for the weekday half off specials at the bar. The bar menu has lots of good stuff that others have raved over, non-Italian selections that would be a steal at half price. After that visit I'll update my review accordingly! read more

When you go to a restaurant at noon, the signs say they open at 1130a and the door is locked, take that as a sign. Foolishly I called and they had simply forgotten to unlock the front door so they came and let us in. Iced tea, coffee, 2 wedge salads, talapia and soft shell crab special. The iced tea was not fresh brewed, forgivable for the fact that they charge for each glass though coffee refills are free. Also, the dried out old lemon wedge for accompanying was gross. The salad was suitable, nothing special but also decent. The talapia, I was told, was "pretty good," the soft shell crab was an utter disaster. The flavor was weird and the crab was squishy, so neither soft nor crispy, but somewhere spongelike. The flavor was also strange; I wouldn't say fishy so much as seapark-esque. I took a couple bites then focused on the spinach and mashed potatoes and some weird lemony sauce they bathed the entire dish in. Next time just flash fry it and call it a day. And don't charge for each iced tea if it comes out of a soda machine. read more

Sorry, brunch here was less than mediocre. We were a group of 10+ on a Saturday morning. They weren't busy at all. Food took forever to come out, they forgot to bring out one persons order, at least four people ordered poached eggs and NONE of the yolks were runny. Blueberry pancakes were sour/bland. I tried a lobster roll and the lobster meat itself was very fresh and delicious. But there was almost no seasoning on it, so not sure everyone would be into it. I didn't even taste any lemon. The upstairs is gorgeous, the view is awesome. Other than that, it was an overall disappointment unfortunately. read more

I being living in Huntington for 30 years .when ever I pass by on 25a I see this restaurant always packed so decided to go last night . The food I ordered oysters and Caesar salad for starter . First of all the waiters was confused and didn't know our table . I ordered oysters and they gave me clams had to change them ,the salad came was dry with a dash of dressing on it . I asked my waitress to bring some Caesar dressing which she brought after waiting for quite a while . The main dish I ordered was the special Black Sea bass . it was horrible. I had so much salt in the fish and orzo and tomato sauce topped with more salty olives lol . The waitress was very nice to replace the dish and remake it with less salt but i was turned off and was disappointed i paid 40$ for dish that was not worth it . My son got scallops dish which was also not seared well and I found it raw in the middle . I noticed they were paying more attention to their regular customers than us .I had a v bad experience would not recommend any one to go there read more

Came here with my boyfriend. The view was very pretty, the atmosphere was really nice and quiet. Our waitress was cool and down to earth. We decided to order drinks and appetizers only but everything we ordered was very tasty. The oysters were fresh and tasted really good that we ordered a second order. We also had the Thai calamari which was very tasty and different from the calamari we are use to. The drinks were perfect and they left us a little buzzed, so that's always great. read more

Ate lunch on the patio on this beautiful July 4th. They allowed my dog to sit outside with us which was a big plus in my book. Today out waiter, Orlando, said it was his first day. He did a fine job! Loved the flat bread and hummus offered in the beginning. The lobster rolls were enjoyed by my son and husband. My crab omelette was a bit bland but not terrible. My other son had the crusted tilapia which looked tasty but the vegetables appeared a bit soggy. Service was very good. The bar area and dining area looked very inviting and Although today I only gave this place 3 stars would give this place another try. read more

Thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail from the restaurant staff. Went for lunch at 130 on a Wednesday in Sept so I can only guess not many people would have this experience. It was all excellent. Steamed mussels for appetizer were excellent. Good portion that was more than I expected. I had ahi tuna blt, others had fresh salmon burger and linguini with clam sauce. Everyone thought everything was really good. The salmon burger was described as sinful. About 24 clams in linguini, they were small but a great lunch portion. Ahi tuna was really good. Could be a little less avacado, but that's just me. Service was excellent, but I would expect nothing else since there was only one other table seated. We sat upstairs which was really nice. Decent view of the harbor. Would definitely go back should I ever be in the area. read more

View is beautiful, overlooking the water. One big positive is that on Monday's you get 50% off your bill. The food is good but kind of disappointing that you don't even get a small side salad to start. A few things I thought were odd.... hummus rather than butter with bread, failing to give a drink menu to look at and not clearing bread plates. Small details which you'd expect to have. Also in order to get to the pretty view you have to go up an enormous set of stairs.... so if you are elderly or have a wheelchair you are SOL read more

Harbor Mist has a lot going for it. The food is top notch. Fantastic views. Great location. But its negative qualities are so glaring, that it leaves you with a bad taste. i'd been here once before and thought it was solid, so suggested that my mom (visiting from out of town and discerning) and family meet here for dinner. The table was great, upstairs overlooking the water and food ended up being quite good. The not so good, especially for a place where the entrees are priced on average between 30- 50 bucks: SERVICE - Just horrendous. Waiter was way too casual, like he was a server at a fast food restaurant. I've had more polite, professional service at McDonalds. They also never cleared plates and left crumbs and food on the table throughout. ATMOSPHERE- Again for what it is billing itself as and the price point, they have really let it go. The ceiling in the main dining room looks like 1970 popcorn style complete with stains, the bathrooms resemble public ones, with black scuffs on doors, and overall the place just felt really dated. If I'm going to pay $200 for a dinner out on a weeknight the ambience just needs to be better. It's like they don't care and just prey on rich elderly folk who don't care. Bottom line...many better options 5 minutes away in Huntington Village where at least it feels a bit like the city and makes an attempt at its standards. This place has unlimited potential, but the owners need to invest in a renovation and hire some more savvy wait staff to make the Harbor Mist worth the $. read more

I have been to Harbor Mist many times and have had delicious meals and great service. Last week I went to Harbor Mist with my mother and 2 sisters to celebrate my sisters 50th Birthday. We sat upstairs (where every table has a view of the harbor) and without knowing it our server made my sister feel so special on her birthday. We had the Lobster Rolls (delicious), salads and the deserts were outstanding. Barman and Michele do a great job and the staff are all terrific. Can't wait to go back! read more

Having only dined here one time a few weeks after it opened I would like to try it again after seeing all the more favorable reviews. As for myself and our party this is what I thought. The atmosphere was great, tranquil setting overlooking Cold Spring Harbor, cozy interior and freshly redone decor. The service was attentive and overall professional. For me what had fallen a little short was the food. I'm not 100% as to what we had ordered but I recall remembering not loving what we had. It was good but not amazing as we had hoped for. Will give it another couple of tries when I'm in the area and update. read more

To me, it was only ok. The food was great but I didn't feel there was anything spectacular or special about the dishes that would prompt me to recommend this restaurant over others in the Huntington/Cold Spring Harbor area. Maybe if we had dined a bit earlier and had a clear view of the harbor it would have made a significant difference but it was 8pm when we arrived and dark and rainy out. I also felt the service was lacking. When greeted at the door, the host looked at us as if we were lost and weren't supposed to be there. When we said we had a reservation he seemed confused, saying that our table was still being set up. However when we got upstairs, it had been sitting empty since our initial reservation at 7pm (we had to move it back to 8pm for other reasons). The maitre d', George, was pleasant and accommodating. Our waitress, Jessica, seemed new and not sure of what was going on. When we asked her if she had any recommendations, she said, "What?" and walked away. Later, my aunt had ordered a bowl of soup for her meal since she had just arrived from Thailand and didn't want to have too heavy a meal. My brother on the other hand, ordered a cup of soup. So a bowl of soup arrives while we were waiting for our entrees and we were not told whether it was a bowl or a cup. Now, the soup was in a bowl, but only filled halfway. We had to ask another server if it was a considered a bowl or a cup, and he said cup. My aunt didn't want to eat it yet bc the rest of us hadn't gotten our meals yet. We had to get George to come over and ask him as well whether it was a cup or a bowl and that my brother was missing his appetizer cup of soup. I don't know whose mistake it was but we should have been told whether that soup qualified as a bowl or a cup. Apparently, they use the same bowl for both a cup and a bowl of soup, they just fill it more for a bowl. Well, thanks for the explanation. We don't have a point of reference for distinguishing between a cup and bowl having never been there before. At least we know for next time, if there is a next time. Anyway, it was probably around 9-9:30 by the time we got our entrees. What a long wait! Especially if we didn't order any apps, other than my brother's missing cup of soup (he was rewarded with a BOWL of soup instead). I got the Scallops, which were served with vegetables tossed in a brown butter glaze and mashed potatoes. I don't know if it was because I was starving or if the plate was really good, but I cleaned it. My boyfriend had the skirt steak which was also pretty delicious, but I preferred the chimichurri sauce to be less watery. My brother and his wife both got the seafood risotto, which was very watery also. I thought risotto was supposed to be thicker. The rest of the party (my parents and uncle) ordered the fish special, served over basmati rice and spinach. It looked good but I didn't get to try it. For the 8 of us with no apps and one bottle of wine the bill came out to around $350. Not bad for a party of 8. I would sooner recommend other restaurants than dine here again. read more
