We stopped into Harbor Mist in the late afternoon just between lunch and dinner and took a seat at the bar. The bartender greeted us quickly and I noticed they had champagne by the glass so I ordered a French 75- and quickly learned that the classic spirit/ craft cocktail craze has not hit Long Island. Nevertheless the bartender made the drink and it turned out great. We had a quick late lunch of a caprese salad, a Cesar salad and a side of truffle fries. Everything tasted good, and was fresh, but nothing was a standout. The caprese had three tomatoes, each topped with a ring of mozzarella, balsamic reduction and two roasted red peppers. Everything was fairly basic but it achieved the desired flavor profile. I hope for their sake that they source local tomatoes with a little flavor in a few weeks when they are ready. The truffle fries were battered fries which were crispy and topped with a decent amount of garlic and truffle oil. The Cesar salad was a disappointment, we ordered dressing on the side and added onion and tomato- which added 5 cherry tomatoes cut in half. If it weren't for these additions the "salad" would have been just lettuce- no Parmesan, no croutons, nothing to justify the price. I left the Harbor Mist less hungry, but certainly not wowed. They have a great location and are one of the nicer places in the area from what I can tell, they can absolutely do more with the food. Even switching from a giant bag of frozen fries to hand cutting potatoes by the order would elevate the game. The view was great from the bar and the bartender was nice and friendly. read more

Food was great until I got the bill and saw there was a charge shown as cc with an amount ($4) on $176 ck. I asked the girl and she said it was for using a credit card to pay the bull but I never use cc I'm a cash user. So not only was it not told to me but it was taxed on and in the total. If I didn't as it would never been told to me so keep look out. When I asked the server she told me that that's what they were told to put on the bill unfortunately she never conversed with me the reason why or if I was paying cash or credit card prior to giving me the final bill. We visit Harbor Mist frequently for date nights, family dinners and friend get togethers. Everything is always excellent - the food, the service, the atmosphere. We also had our rehearsal dinner in the private room upstairs which was gorgeous. All of our guests were well taken care & loved the food. The employees here are genuinely kind and care about their customers. You really can't go wrong with dining here if you have a large group because of the diverse menu. During the summer they have live music outside which makes dinner fun as people will get up and dance. All of their seafood is delicious, but always ask the server for the specials. Parking is so forking full! That's my first impression of this place, so I thought this restaurant is great. We were standing by the podium where the receptionist should be but she/he was missing (1 star down). So, we asked a busboy if we can just sit anywhere and he replied yes! We were seated for quite few minutes with no one attending to us until I waved to a server at another table of he can give us a menu. He did. No apologies why our server is missing too. And, finally, she showed up, took our orders in one shot- appetizers, drinks and entree. My friend got his scrambled egg with lobster (barely) which he didn't enjoy much. I said that cuz he keeps on diving in to my plate. I had grilled salmon which I really enjoyed. Perfectly seasoned and cooked just how I wanted. Passion fruit Martini and Tequila mule are just hands down awesome. Despite the mishaps, I gave this place 4 stars even if the staff aren't that in sync which maybe due to understaffing, who knows?! Harbor Mist is a really cozy place right near the water. It kind of made us feel like we were eating lunch at home. I got myself a hamburger while my wife and mom-in-law got a fish based dish and we all decided that it was delicious! Went to Harbor Mist on Father's Day with a friend's family. We arrived around 2:30 pm. The restaurant was packed, as you may have expected, so we were anxious to try it out given its popularity. We were seated after about 30 minutes, which was not too bad given the holiday. However, once we were seated, things only got worse. When we were seated, the dining room was about 60% full. We quickly got out orders in. To start, we got a couple of orders of the truffle fries. These fries took about 30 minutes to come out, and they looked like frozen, store-bought fries that had some truffle oil poured over them. There was nothing about these that made them worth paying $7 for. The dining room really thinned out as we were waiting for our entrees (only two other tables were left besides ours), but unfortunately, that did not make the food come out any faster. In total, we waited over 2 hours to get our entrees. When they arrived, we were starving. Unfortunately, the food itself was so mediocre that it did not assuage anyone's ire. The only dish that was halfway decent was the eggplant rollatini, which was surprising given that this is a seafood restaurant. We also tried the salmon, branzino, and swordfish, all of which were either overcooked or bland and unoriginal. The macaroni and cheese was watery and also tasted like it could have been prepared from a box. The whole experience, from start to finish, was horrible. I would not recommend this restaurant -- there are much better restaurants down the street. read more

i was in Harbor Mist Friday night and while dining I felt faint and i actually did pass out cold for about. 5 minutes. It was scary for my wife and friends .They called 911 thankfully and i was whisked away by ambulance.The setting was beautiful and the food tasty but the real story was the graciousness of the management. They comped our dinners and showed compassion for the situation. Thankfully i am fine now ( Saturday) but I am reminded how fragile life is. Appetizers were excellent, and were followed by entries of stuffed salmon, Thai calamari, salmon and orzo with mixed seafood in a fennel broth. Then desserts of tiramasu, rum cake, eggnog cheesecake in bourbon sauce, and vanila ice cream. Everything was excellent, and every special request handled flawlessly. We have been driving past this gem of a restaurant on the way to or on the way from home for months and were deciding on trying it when the weather warmed up. On a Friday evening we were able to secure a reservation for an hour later. At first this troubled me because it's tough to eat anywhere near the water this time of year. We were greeted warmly by two nice girls at the hostess stand, and shown our table on the second floor, overlooking the water. The ambience is upscale and romantic, however, it plays down to dressy casual very well. Our server came quickly and offered us some cocktails, which were both very good- a pinot noir for me and a cosmo for my date. With boats and white swans and the rippling of the water, you'd be hard pressed to find a better setting for a meal. Soft old standards by Sinatra and Dean played in the background while we dined and discussed our work week. Because we had not eaten here before, we tried several items from the app menu and tried one of their specials as well. To start, we had Tuna tartar, the lobster salad special, and the beet salad with goat cheese and blueberry mouse. Although the other two were delicious, the beet salad won the appetizer contest- hands down. For more, we chose the Thai Calamari and the Filet Tips-- both were excellent as well and gave us the right amount of food to share. We're never in a rush to eat, and the help came quickly and quietly filling a glass or removing a plate. Excellent service and delicious food- that's a winning combination in my book. There is a bar downstairs with tv to watch the games and some outside seating that maybe next time we'll take advantage of. All in all, I'm looking forward to coming back and raising this rating a star! read more

I came here twice in one week, that's how much I missed their Salmon Burger. After some hours grinding it away in the Cold Spring Library, I made my way down the hill to Harbor Mist. Their's a bar on the main level with some out door tables, and then their's the upstairs where those who are lucky can be seated window side to view the harbor. They actually give you a plate of hummus and some bread to start off. I kid you not the $13 Asian Glazed Salmon Burger will not disappoint, along with the fresh fries and cole slaw that comes with. I'd be lying if I said I came from Smithtown twice in a week just for the library cause the Salmon is the bait. After a short hiking in the park, we got hungry and just wanted a quick bite. Walked into this restaurant that's close by, tables look formal so was immediately considering leaving. Then the greeter was still nice after we told them we just wanted a quick bite. We just ordered a burger to split since it's not my dinner time to eat. To my surprise, it came out really good. Nice and juicy, everything was fresh.... tomatoes, lettuce onions and pickles. This place is a little pricy but has a nice view across from water. Service was good. The food was good, but they made a mistake and brought regular fries with my lobster roll instead of the truffle fries I asked for. When I pointed it out, I said it was fine but they brought me out truffle fries. However, they then not only charged me for the upgrade for the fries on my original dish (which weren't upgraded), but also the new fries they brought out. I usualy tip more than the amount added, but if I can't leave less for poor service, I'm not going to leave more for good service. Made a reservation for Mother's Day. I called earlier to confirm the day. They call me two hours before the time and told me they can not accommodate us because the table before us has more people then expected. This is all before the restaurant was open for business. So i called them back 30 min later to say, you kids messed up my Mother's Day plan. We had three families together for this occasion. So when I called, we talked for abt 3 minutes about the whole thing then I told them I was kinda bummed about the whole thing. So, we have passed this restaurant many times on our way to dining at Grasso's. We also kid as we drive by that it looks like a great spot with a beautiful view and we should go there one day. Well, that day finally came. I checked out their website to see how the menu looked. There is something for everyone from seafood to steaks to chops, pastas and salads. AND.......get ready..... Monday's and Tuesday's the entire menu is 50% off. Yes, the ENTIRE menu including specials of the day. No price fixed truncated selection here. That got us goin on a Monday to start the week with something special. Made the reservations on Open Table. There is plenty of parking with two lots - one next to the restaurant and a separate one next door. We were greeted by Cindy a most amiable receptionist. She showed us an old book that revealed this was the site of a former brothel way back when. The bar is on the main level where you check in and there are some tables there. A better choice is upstairs and I had requested a window table to look over the harbor at sunset. She personally walked us up to give us a couple of choices. We sat at a lovely table for two tucked in a corner with windows on two sides. We had wine to start (not included on the special). I had the soup of the day which was lentil with chorizo. It was nice and spicy. My wife had the spicy ricotta meatballs (generous large portion of two). She had the 14oz NY Strip with Baked Potato and Sautéed Spinach (adjusted price was $23). Cooked perfectly medium rare. I had one of their signature dishes the Braised Boneless Beef Short ribs ($16) with whipped potatoes. Melted in my mouth......ahhh. We shared a dessert special of warm Apple Strudel with vanilla ice cream of course. By the way, our waiter was Mike and he was terrific. Extremely attentive and nice conversationalist. He started working there last May 12th which we mentioned was our wedding anniversary. He surprised us later with a liqueur on the house which was unique - an orange wine with chocolate. He also added a candle to the strudel. A nice touch most appreciated even though the event was still 2 months away! When the bill came, Mike explained what we were about to see so we understood. The left side was the regular price and the right displayed the items at the half off discount. An 18% tip is automatically carried over to the right based on the regular price which is the way it should be. I am fine with this concept and it takes the guesswork out of it. There is room to add an additional tip which we did for a job well done. On our way out Cindy told us about the bar Happy Hour special. That is Wednesday through Friday from 4-7 and features half price food items and discounts on drinks. I'm glad we finally dined there and looking forward to showing our family and friends this spot. Awesome place! Love brunches here. Menu has plenty of options but isn't overkill. The Bloody Mary's are great (ask for them spicy) and the Mimosas are your standard mimosa. We love the view, and the parking is plenty adequate (when the lot isn't being monopolized by totally unnecessary valet service - please ditch this, no one needs/wants it). Service was good however and servers were all nice and friendly. View was fine but the overall experience fell flat from what we expected on our first experience. My first restaurant outing, since this corona started. Took a random ride out in the direction of Cold spring harbor, on this hot July 19, when I passed the Harbor Mist, I noticed they had outside dining, the tables seemed to have plenty of space between them, they also have two parking lots, one adjacent to the restaurant where they have the table set up, and another one about 50 feet away. So we stopped in, the staff were all wearing masks, once seated they start you off with a tray of bread and a couple of large crunchy crackers, and a bowl of hummus. I had a beer, my friend ordered a piña colada, seemed very refreshing on the hot Sunday night. For appetizers we ordered the tuna tacos, the taco shell was crunchy, mango salsa was on point, very enjoyable. For the main course my friend ordered the organic chicken Parmesan over linguine, it was a fairly large portion, freshly made, very enjoyable, plenty to take home. Reasonable price. I had the sesame crusted yellow fin tuna, very enjoyable meal, nice sites portion, freshly made, reasonable price. Definitely will go back again, nice outdoor dining atmosphere. read more

We went here for their Monday night special. We ate in the bar and Denise, probably the best and nicest bartender I've ever met helped us out. The service was incredible and the best part of the meal. Thank you so much Denise! Food was excellent. The Thai calamari was very flavorful and tasted delicious but was a little basic. Our clams oreganata tasted fresh and good. NY strip was cooked perfectly. The star of the meal was the seafood fradiavolo w. fennel and Chardonnay red sauce. OMG. I don't even like pasta and I kept stealing bites from my brother's plate. Can't stress enough how good our experience was because of the bartender. We've been to this restaurant several times I've only had one bad meal there but everybody has an off night but this night the food was really delicious. The service is the same Every time I go there they're very accommodating to all your needs the staff is very friendly we like sitting upstairs sometimes near the window somehow they always make that work for us . My wife and I went to dinner at Harbor Mist tonight for our date night as I've heard a lot of great things and we've passed it so many times we finally decided to give it a try. What a horrible decision that was. We were given bread and some kind of hummus which was not good. We ordered drinks which, for some reason, came in the incorrect glasses. We split a Cesar salad that was mediocre at best and ended up to be the highlight of the meal. I ordered the short ribs which were tender but the taste reminded me of something that would come out of a gross cafeteria. I would not recommend. My wife ordered the "special" which was salmon and pasta and she describes it as "gross with barely any salmon in it". It had zero flavor and upon mentioning to the waitress that it wasn't good she really didn't seem to care. It took about an hour to receive our food. Truthfully, I wouldn't serve this to my dog. The drinks were strong so that's just about the only plus from the evening. read more

Had the recommended Pork Chops Michelle and they were perfectly cooked - a thick pork chop nice and juicy with a great pepper sauce. A very unpleasant experience. Called at 6pm to ask if seating is available. The lady on the phone was nice enough to say it's walk-in and first come first serve. Arrived at 730pm to find it's a 30 min wait and a lot of tables are reserved?! Sat down at 8pm and waited for 1 hour for food while others who arrived later than us got food. Also asked for a water cup for at least three times which never came. The waiters apologized for the service and the mess up and promised to take something off the bill which didn't happen.
