Came to buy a plunger and thought I would check this place out instead of going to Lowes. Glad I did! Plenty of parking right outside of the store. The staff is very helpful and come up to offer assistance right away. Their selection is limited and you need to take your time while walking down the aisle and looking for what you need. Harbor Freight is the minimalist Home Depot. It's small and easy to navigate, but definitely lacking in options. Went to pick out an extension cord. They only had the heavy duty stuff, which I guess I can understand, but would have been nice for an option that was more affordable (with the understanding that people might come in for things for their home). If you come with small children, watch them like a hawk because they have things like little hatchets and axes and hammers on the lower shelves. I'm glad my husband is on top of his coupons for the store because with his purchase, we were able to get free LED flashlights for the kids. Shannon is the man. I had bought some batteries that showed in stock but were actually On back order. Well, in order to fulfill my order he actually went out of his way to pick up the batteries at another location himself. Had an employee come here yestarday to grab items for a generator. Had a manager talk down to her cause she didn't know what she was doing... sad to see small businesses like this do that. Today I went in and bought a predator generator. My company Primo Electric uses it to give temporary power to the local community when we do jobs in but they require temporary power. Return policy bad policy. Paid over $150.00 for a car Jack. The handle broke while I was changing a tire. I had to call a tow truck to dislodge the Jack from my car. and when I tried to return they refused. The box said harbor freight right on it. It had the address. They refused to help because I had no receipt and claimed that if I had given an email or phone number at point of purchase they could help me. But at this point too bad I am out $150.00.. I bought a 100ft garden hose at the end of January. I used it a few times, when I noticed a small leak. I had my receipt, but due to the Corona virus and my age (72), I was not able to return it. In August, I called and explained the problem and mentioned I had my receipt from January. The lady I spoke with said to bring it in. When I went, the manager refused to exchange the hose and said that the person I spoke with was only an associate and had no say in the matter. I'm very disappointed in Harbor Freight for not standing by the products they sell. The hose was defective, I'm sure there would be no loss for Harbor Freight, as they would just return it to their supplier. Costco would have made an even exchange, no questions, no time limit. The floor plan is even the same with power tools on the left wall and air tools on the right side wall. I always enjoy shopping at Harbor Freight, but the new one in Pico Rivera, CA is exceptional because of their great customer service. I have two examples. I was there to buy a worm clamp set. My 20% coupon had expired, and the clerk took the trouble to see if it had been extended. Turns out it was, and I was given the discount. The second example really amazed me. I wanted to buy their multi-duty aluminum ladder but I wanted a demo first. The store manager knew of an online video showing exactly that. Their computer system apparently doesn't allow employees to access websites...even their own. So he took out his personal smart phone, looked up the demo, sat me down in his office, and played it for me. Needless to say, I subsequently bought the ladder, which I wouldn't have done otherwise, not seeing any sort of demo. Is that going beyond the call of duty, or what?!? And what a salesman HE is! The store itself is very clean and well organized. Quite the selection too it seems. Service, on the other hand, is another story. The employees don't seem like they want to work there with their solemn and bored faces. However, I mainly rate this place a two stars because of the situation I had encountered. I went in to return something, and was asked by an employee who appears to be the manager what I was there for. I said I was there to return something. She took the receipt, held on to it, and said she'd help me in a bit as I looked around the store, and all I had to do was ask for her when I was ready. Really, I could have just held on to the receipt and walked up to an employee when I was ready, but since she took the receipt, I just thought she was the only person who can process returns (she wasn't). So after looking around for about five minutes, I had to find her in the office. She said she'd be out to help me in a bit. I waited about five more minutes for her to come out only for her to give my receipt to another employee to help me with. Then came the actual return process. After scanning the receipt and asking why I was returning(the usual stuff) the employee asked for not only a number, but for my name and address. Most stores don't ask this, so I was taken aback at first. I asked why did I have to give all this info, and she said it is a return policy and is printed on back of the receipt with not the best attitude. I didn't want to give out my information, so I couldn't return my item.Thinking about it now, it kind of makes sense why they would ask for all my information since some people do some shady returns or return things used, but I would have appreciated it if I was given a proper explanation with a better attitude. Also, I find it improper for the store to not state in person or place a sign that explains the return policy of phone number and ID requirement for returns before a purchase is made. If they did place up a sign, it was too hidden or small for anyone to see. Not everyone is comfortable with sharing such personal information, especially for something as simple as a return. If one doesn't want to give such information, then just don't buy, but they should at least have the right to be informed of such policy before buying and getting themselves into a situation like me. read more
