Their parking lot is a tight crammed fit, as is their store. BUT this store has big heart and big selection of those tiny, sundry parts that one always needs for projects. I much prefer to come here and be helped by their outstanding team, than to try bigger stores (even non big-box retail). This family-owned store has a well-deserved reputation for being good neighbors. I have always been able to consult them on work arounds for projects, advice for the oddest little fit or parts, with the trust that they their responses are offered with consideration and customer responsiveness. The icing on the cake was when my car was recently vandalized and I needed tape to fix up broken parts to be able to go home. The owner personally just gave me blue tape to make sure I was taken care of, and out of the kindess at my distress. You can't get this kind of "care" and social trust in most places these days. This past Saturday, the youngest man on the team, helped customize a piece for me, using a straight saw and vice in the workshop side of the store, which I never knew existed. I honestly can't anymore with these guys. I tried so hard to give them business. From yelp, to their website, to Google, to on their physical store hours they are open on Saturdays from 8 AM till 5 PM. Every Saturday that I'm in the area and I need parts I go to them. They're closed during business hours. Today is 1:26 PM. They're closed change your hours then to Monday through Fridays only so you stop confusing your customers as you officially lost me as one. read more

I usually love this place. Right now though, they're not wearing masks and not asking people to wear masks. Apparently indoors, the delta variant can be transmitted in a matter of seconds. No tricks on Tritch! Just your honest to goodness - real deal friendly neighborhood hardware store. A friendly mom & pop local hardware shop with helpful and courteous staff. Jam packed with most anything and everything you will need for those weekend home renovation projects, this store provides a real personal service and advice when looking for those much needed items. I was really impressed with their service as they are unlike the behemoth hardware stores especially when asking where to find stuff, they do not point or give instructions where to find it but rather, they'll take the time to walk with you and show you exactly where it is. Two thumbs up to that as it really saves time instead of wandering and walking around figuring out where the heck is that freaking wing nut? :) Prices are fairly reasonable and options are plentiful. There is street parking and a small parking lot at the back of the store along Townsend. Do not expect an enormous fancy-schmanzy store as it is not, but I cannot emphasize enough the quality of service you'll get from these folks. 5 stars well deserved. read more

This is not Home Depot or OSH... this is a family run business. A bit over-whelming on the first couple of visits. However, I am constantly amazed at how much of everything seems to located somewhere in the store. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Great service. The guys there are very kind and only charged a few dollars to trim some small squares of glass for me. Other places I called were going to charge double and one was even going to charge $50 when Tritch Hardware only charged five dollars and had the job done in minutes. Sometimes, Eagle Rock has a real Riverdale, Archie & Jughead feel about it: you're driving down Colorado, past all these businesses that have been here since the 40's or so (Cindy's Diner, Casa Bianca, Colombo's, etc.), you see the "Historic Route 66" signs, and you feel a bit like you're in BACK TO THE FUTURE or something. Nowhere is this blast-from-the-past feeling more pronounced than in the venerable Tritch Hardware in Eagle Rock (SW corner of Colorado and Townsend). Tritch Hardware is the kind of place where an American flag is hung up with no irony, where most of the grizzled staff probably spent some time in either Vietnam or Korea at some point, and where people really care how the Eagle Rock high school football team is doing. It's a throwback. I've purchased the following items at Tritch Hardware in the three years we've lived in Eagle Rock: a shovel, six tomato cages, several bags of potting soil, a hammer, nails, hooks, duct tape, a hand juicer, and a wheelbarrow. The people in Tritch Hardware are famously helpful. They'll answer all sorts of questions in detail, and will always help you find the stuff you need. A French friend of mine was in there yesterday, asking them about how to restore the finish on aluminum. The guy helping him, an older guy, carefully went over my friend's project, and what he wanted to accomplish, and pointed him in exactly the right direction. The staff at Tritch are not all bubbly and fake-friendly, but more sort of the gruff and to-the-point helpful types: you'll come out of there with the stuff you need and will probably feel like you learned something useful about hardware/home repair/the American way. You might also feel like going and having a Miller and watching the Dodgers. And changing your own oil and filter. They've got basically all the hardware you might need, in addition to other random household stuff (appliances, kitchen stuff, etc.). They also have a cooler full of ice cream bars. Behind the counter they've usually got a baseball, football, or basketball game on on the tiny TV they have next to the register. I might have to agree with those who argue that Tritch Hardware, and not the car-accident-prone Swork (which I love), is the true heart of Eagle Rock. Of course, Tritch Hardware is often posited as some kind of touchstone of "realness" and "real people" against which the invading yuppie hordes are juxtaposed: see the NYT article comparing the now-defunct Regeneration shop vs. Tritch (the faint odor you detect as you read the article is the sickly sweet musk of Schadenfreude). Tritch Hardware and the other businesses that have been in Eagle Rock for the past sixty years are what make this neighborhood what it is. They are the core of the place. Newer places (Swork, Colorado Wine Company, The Oinkster, Señor Fish, etc.) are inexorably becoming part of the fabric of neighborhood as well, but Eagle Rock likely never will be a copy of Silverlake or Los Feliz: the set up and the nature of the place are too different. Young and old are working out a happy medium in this neighborhood. The new places that will go up over the coming years as we come out of the current downturn will all go to the same place for the tools they need to start building: Tritch Hardware. read more

I'm not the kind of girl who can be found at a hardware store on a regular basis. Hammers, cables, bungee cords, nails, and saws just aren't my cup of tea. To be honest, I don't know the first thing about what makes a good hardware store. But what I do know is kindness and excellent customer service. Tritch Hardware is both. I found Tritch in the yellow pages (how old school of me) when I needed some copies of some work keys. Lots of keys. 31 to be exact. So I called up and the man who answered the phone gave me their exact location (turns out, just up the street from work) and was so pleasant! I know right? A pleasant phone call with a total stranger and NOT having to pay $3.99 a minute? Unheard of! Anyway, I drive the 3 blocks to Tritch (it's 2 doors down from the Chalet) and am immediately surprised by how the employees interact with their customers. Like old buddies. It was very endearing and even heart-warming. Again, at a hardware store?? The gentleman who made my keys was so unbelievably patient and pleasant. He separated my keys on little rings and even had me try the one to the work vehicle out before charging me for it. And he said if I had trouble with any of them, to bring 'em back and he'd fix 'em. Poor guy spent an hour at the key machine. I was able to meet the pleasant voice on the phone, his name is Glen. Glen is one of the son's of the owner and man, what a guy. All about making sure his customer's had a pleasant experience at the hardware store. The store reminds me of a really messy closet but you get the feeling that the employees all know exactly where things are and if they even have certain items in stock. Impressive. No wonder this place has been there for 60+ years. Yeah, 60!! Family-owned business since the 1940s. I loved that. It's places like this that make me so glad that we moved to Eagle Rock from that dark abyss known as the Valley. Having grown up in a small town, I really appreciate places like this hardware store. I came in to pick up a few things while we were having a crisis at the new house, flooding during that ridiculous rain storm last December. I pulled into the convenient lot in the back, and entered through the back door. One of the employees approached me after I had been staring at the shovels for some time and asked if I needed help. He then assisted me in getting me everything I needed. He was patient, knowledgable, and friendly. Because of that interaction, I've since been back to pick up several more things for the house. It's s much closer than the Home Depot, and the service is astronomically better. If you want something very specific and think they probably won't have it, go ahead and give them a call.
