Great place to get little odds and ends so you don't have to waste all day trying to find something at the big box stores. They carry garage clickers for all the surrounding buildings and are an especially great resource for these. read more

This store is much more expensive than Home Depot but because i like to support my neighborhood stores, i've been spending money here for 20 years when the original owner, the older gentleman used to work there. He gave it to his son who is also nice but the other staff guy is very rude. He never greets you; instead, he ignores you when you walk in, even when i'm trying to pay for my stuff and give him money, he purposely ignores you. I purposely started going back to HOme Depot for 3 years and spent around 15K, just because of this surly worker/ The money could have gone to Jim, the new owner. I decided to give the store another chance but the worker still is rude. I'll give another chance but if this childish behavior continues, then I'll spend a lot of money at HD again. read more

Great little place tucked away in K town. Their prices are really great for lightbulbs, of all things. I was able to find regular bulbs, which are getting harder to find with everything going LED, and at a good price too. I come here a lot to have keys made. Called Callahan around 1pm to see if they could come to my parents' house to fix some leaky faucets. They weren't sure if their plumber would have time that same day. But at 3:30pm, I got a call that they'd be sending someone over. They came to inventory the parts he needed and then called me to tell me how much then parts and labor would cost $186 for 5 leaky faucets. I think that's reasonable given they were able to come the same day. He came back with the parts and got to work. It took less than an hour to complete! Their guy was so nice and friendly. I found Callahan's from Yelp. I only went in for a couple of things, but great to go into an old-time hardware store where they still provide good service and care about their customers. It reminded me of growing up in my father's store in Westchester, CA, Gerald's Paint and Hardware. Unfortunately we had to close up after 50 years but people still talk about it. Forced by the local post office to replace three of the four apartment mailboxes at one of the properties I managed, my postal carrier recommended Callahan Hardware. Minimal amount of natural lighting came in through the tinted and dirty large glass front doors and windows while soul-sucking electric fluorescent ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs while rock music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I would gladly add Callahan Hardware to my ever-growing list of small local hardware stores needed to manage rental properties. They carrried a myriad of items the big box stores didn't sell nor special ordered but ones I found to be hard-to-find and needed with some of the older properties. The prices seemed really competitive along with a decent selection. The small staff I dealt with were very informative. Don't let the aesthetics scare you off because there was a wealth of products inside. I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $920.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). Like many others, I've been on the hunt for cleaning supplies/gloves/masks/etc. I gave up after seeing the long lines and empty shelves at other stores, knowing I didn't stand a chance. I went in to get some products to deal with a plumbing issue, and after talking to a kind gentleman (wearing gloves and a protective face mask), I found out that they had: 1) all the supplies needed to fix the problem 2) a handyman on-site who could help me out 3) AND MASKS, GLOVES, BLEACH, DETERGENT, AND DISH SOAP! (WHAT?!) What a great surprise! The staff was knowledgeable, patient with me, and helpful (I also noticed some Spanish speaking employees helping Spanish-speaking customers). Amazing customer service, friendly staff and has everything you need. I went in because my dog dug a hole in my window screen and to my surprise Callahan Hardware custom makes screens. I was able to put in my order within seconds and picked my nee screen the very next day. Amazing turn around time and the prices are very reasonable. To see that Callahan's is still in business is fabulous! I am copying the family scrapbook for my 3 daughters. One of the stories I am putting in it is that from 1947 to 1954 my dad would say to my younger brothers and me, "Want to go for a ride?" We'd hop in the car and he would take us to Callahan's. When I was about 10 or 11, I walked to the store by myself - 5 blocks - saw Mr. Callahan and asked him if there was anything in the store my Dad didn't have that I could buy for a Christmas present for $10. He handed me a pair of pliers that was a new item. Happy Christmas all around. I don't have a photo to illustrate this story, so went to the internet to see if I could find any Callahan Hardware sign. Imagine my surprise to find the correct one! read more

I went to purchase a piece of window screen and was quoted almost double the price elsewhere for EXACTLY again, EXACTLY the same size and type screen. I thought they were kidding...NO.... they are higher priced than most other comparable stores. I first went there in 1970 on occasion and will NEVER go back again. Well stocked neighborhood hardware store. It can be overwhelming for a lady to walk in but I was assisted by the friendly staff and was able to buy everything I needed from picture hangers, sink basket, to drapery hooks. Jim was patient enough to answer all of my questions about my home projects and made recommendations. They offer quality brands (i.e. Stanley) that are reasonably priced while some are even cheaper compared to Amazon especially if you don't need supplies in bulk. I am very happy and satisfied with my visit and definitely recommend Callahan - excellent customer service! read more

I have bad feeling as far as SERVICE is concerned. It's been in business for about 40 years or so. In the past I got two wall heaters for apartments I managed, complete with installation. I was happy. The current staff, especially in the key area, is not friendly. I had two handymen with me on a return trip regarding a re-key problem. I gave the key guy the only key I had for a particular lock and I asked him to make me 3 more copies. My friends noticed that as soon I handed the key guy that one key I had, he took it an mixed it up with the other keys on the counter. Although he made me 3 keys, the were for a lock I already had him make keys for. When we went to re-install the locks, we discovered that I had 8 keys for a lock when I only nneded four and I had NO keys, including the one I brought in to have copies made of. When I had gone back with my handymen, the key guy & another one present was not being gracious at helping me solve my problem. Instead he belittled me. I guess as long as I have to deal with rude people, I won't give them my business for any more. I sorry that my patronage of their business for heaters was not appreciated. read more

(yes im a bit weird) the staff was very helpful, helped me find a thingy to fit into the hose & faucet even though they were two different sized and it totally fit! im a bit of a blonde when it comes to some stuff.. but and well total spent was under 30 including the hose,... and i came out a very happy person.. since it usually cost more at home depot and the workers there are very oh so clueless. it felt nice to get help from people who knows what they talking about. read more
