This is without a doubt the WORST hardware store I've ever been to in my life. I usually hit Home Depot, which is close by, but this place is around the corner from me. Today I stopped by for simple primer. They had NONE. Is this place a tax write off because not only does their inventory suck, but the girls at the register are extremely unhelpful. As a kid, I remember my parents always talking about having to go to the "fereteria". I never complained about tagging along because I wanted to catch a glimpse of the big sparkly building covered in ceramic next door. Of course, I'm talking about the Self Help Graphics building right across the street. While I've always known of the "fereteria" I've never really had a reason to go there myself until earlier this year. I've recently moved back to the "barrio" and had to make myself an extra set of keys. I was excited to finally be able to check this place out as an actual customer and not just some snotty tag-along kid. From the looks of it, they have a hefty selection of stuff. I would give a zero if I could . I don't normally leave negative reviews but this time I had to. I made an appointment for the owner to come out and measure 15 screens for my windows . His employee named Chico gave me a quote of $20 per window plus $35 for installation of all the screens. Well the owner never showed up on the time promised when I called a half hour after the appointment time he said I never made an appointment yet he had me text my address to his personal number . He never apologized for not showing up instead said he would come the next day . When he arrived the next day he did not have any measuring tape to measure the size of my screens he didn't even want to look at the windows where the screens would be installed instead he ask how many windows , I told him 15 then he quoted a price three times as much as Chico had told me over the phone. I told him that is not the price his employee Chico quoted he then tried to deny that he even has an employee named Chico and that I never spoke to Chico but to him the day before. I told him I texted Chico my address to his cell phone. He showed me my address on his phone which was sent by his Employee Chico. Don't trust the owner who lies over and over . I want to support small business but not one that will bait and switch and lie . read more

Came here looking for plexi glass because Lowe's and Home Depot was out, called them and they were so polite. You only pay for what you're taking and unlike Home Depot and Lowe's In which you gotta buy a premade size and have it cut or cut it yourself. They tried selling my dad a box of masks for $90. A pack of 50... my uncle went the week before literally bought the exact box of 50 for around $12. We literally have receipts. These folks are very nice but their level of professionalism is unfortunately their downfall. I ordered a glass panel to replace the one damaged at my house. There were some delays which were explained to me that was acceptable mixed in with scheduling issues and timing. However, after three no shows I called them to cancel my order. I try to give my business to local shops Vs the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes but these things happen. Especially since home depot sucks at the counter. They have basically all the same, maybe a little pricier, but in a get in, get out situation, i favor this place. The parking is sorta weird. Street parking is a bitch, but you can park over at self help graphics. They have some deal with them where you can park there and go to Brooklyn Hardware. Went in with some measurements to order plexiglass on a Friday afternoon. We casually went in to the store like any other day only to be treated like novices and belittled by the man attending to the glass and screen department. He kept saying how we didn't know what we were doing and that we weren't going to be able to finish the project professionally. He kept asking for measurements and window frames when we had already presented him with the measurements of the glass. Took us three trips to satisfy this mans ego and still we left empty handed. Finally I went back alone to try and argue my way into ordering a simple plexiglass for a small window. Went in a fourth time that Friday and it took a minute to order the darn glass when Mr Mejia wasn't there. The young lad working later that afternoon promised to have the product the next day by 3pm. Saturday 3 pm, stopped by the shop and they misplaced my order !!! By this time Saturday I've been to this place about 5 times now. The young guy said that they couldn't find the order so he kept my receipt and said, "come back in 30 minutes". We are patient folks so we proceeded to leave and come back in a minute amount of 30 minutes. As we got in the car the young man stops us and asks us to come back at 4:30 pm!! I was livid!!! I spoke to the manager once again, this time asking/ demanding what was their deal. He quickly responded,"we have a lot of orders, the blade broke, we have lots of orders ". I told Mejia and the Brooklyn staff could've easily picked up the phone and said, " our machine is broken and we will have your window later " the fact that this place "thrives " because it's customer service is a joke. It used to be an honest place with nice people. It feels like now they lack attention to detail and professionalism. This is usually where i come first before even thinking of driving to home depot, but like i said for the basics...It's a small place but they manage to put it a lil' of everything. I believe there's new ownership and the hours have been changed. They now close at 6pm, which makes it more of a challenge for all the people that work 9 - 6pm. I want to support local businesses but now this makes it tough. If I need something during the week, I'll have to go to Homedepot instead. I bought the perfect size serving tray at Home Goods store last week. I have been looking for something like it for a very long time, I think the frame is made of iron but Javier told me it's just a heavy metal frame. It had a seahorse design underneath the clear glass it came with. The design did not go with my home decor. I bought it knowing that it would be worth replacing the glass. I checked Yelp (my bible) and found this place, and thankfully Javier was there to help me! From the moment he answered the phone until I walked out a very happy customer, he was very sweet and very helpful. Not only did he remove the glass for me, he cleaned the frame and suggested the beautiful bronze glass after I described my decor color theme. I asked for a smokey colored glass, but the one he suggested was way nicer. I'm so happy he assisted me. If you need glass or mirror replaced, he's your guy.
