I'm pretty much in agreement with the other reviewers on this place, except perhaps I'm not quite as taken with HF as they are. HF Tools sells mostly low-end tools and related hardware. It's virtually all made in China. Now, not everything made in China is crap, but a whole lot of it is. You've been warned. It will break -- especially any tool made to close tolerances like locking wrenches or electrical tools. If you must own something that you simply cannot afford at Sears -- which has well-made higher quality tools but at much higher prices -- then buy it at HF. If you're going to use a tool maybe once or twice or if it's a really basic tool like a screwdriver, hammer, or tool bag, HF will do just fine. But, if you want tools that will work well over and over again for years, and if you use tools regularly, I'd stay away from HF. Go to Sears or OSH and get Craftsman tools or some other good brand. The vibe at HF is also pretty low-end. Most customers seem to have just come from a job site or don't speak much English or think speaking in obscenities is normal English (Don't bring your kids here, I've thought many times!). Let's just say it won't remind you of your Yale Reunion. Some employees can be very nice, but I'd say you are expected to have at least part of your body covered with tattoos in order to work here, and employees appear to be encouraged to argue with other employees in front of customers. If this is your kind of experience, HF is for you. I run by every few months to pick up the left-handed monkey wrench I need for a particular project. But I try to get out fast. read more

The price is cheap, but so is the quality... great if you just need tools for basic needs.. but I had to return 2 Power Drills because within 24hrs of buying and using them, they burnt out and/or jammed up on me. Yes, well cheap tools that work and hold up as good or better than the name brand stuff, remember people everything is made in the same factory(s) in good ol' China anyways'. So why waste your money on the name brand made in China stuff, it is basically the same quality for allot less. Sometimes HF is better quality than said name brand. I have used sockets and wrenches at HF and they seem to to hold up way better than Craftsmen or Husky. They don't stretch and slip off when loosening a bolt. Chrome Vanadium steel is good stuff'. Most of the power tools work excellent and last a long time, plus you can still get parts for most of HF power tools and air tools etc. Trust me on this, most all of the air tools are made by the same factories in China as all the American name brand air compressors and air tools !!! But Craftsmen battery drill tools and Ryobi battery tools are better quality than HF, but it is a matter of time before HF catches up too in the battery operated tools, and they are almost there now'. So watch out competition!!!! I find HF to be very good at determining what the average handyman/craftsmen guy needs as far as specialized tools to get the job done, instead of costing a fortune to Get ER' Done' at other tool shops!!! Called to see if they had a certain water pump in stock and they put me on hold for more than 10 minutes. I called back and spoke with someone else and they said "oh yeah we have one." I asked why no one bothered to pick up the phone and they said because there were closIng in 10 minutes. I then pleded that they grab the item off the shelf and hold it up front because I would be there in 5 minutes. She said no they're closed. The Mecca of bargain tools and supplies, definitely worth the stop for the merchandise if you don't need high-end items -- and are not in a hurry. Despite the useful products, this particular Harbor Freight location is chronically understaffed. There is most times a line of 8 to 12 people waiting to check out, and today literally no one on the floor to locate items or answer questions. (Well, in fact, the one person on the floor appeared for about three minutes with a clipboard in hand, then fled to the back room with three people chasing him with questions.) The company and its products are a four maybe five star company for the value of their products and the ability to purchase fundamental and functional tools without paying an arm and a leg. If another location is closer to you, however, or even a little bit further away, go there. You will be happier, and your errand will be faster. read more

This place is a little disappointing. I had always come across their ciculars and wanted to check put this place. When my wife and I stepped in, we were greeted with a very strong odor. Asked the cashier what that was and her response was it's probably from the automotive tools, but she's used to the smell. Well, I've been to the likes of Auto zone, and other hardware stores, but I've never encountered such nauseating smell. Couldn't wait to get out of here. I love this place, but you have to be a smart shopper. It's a place to buy cheap tools cheap, and they do have a great selection. Some cheap tools are fine, but things like off brand vise grip type tools and disk grinders may break or be virtually unusable the first time you try them. There is little that can go wrong with things like a hammer, or electricians tape, and that sort of thing. Even cheap air die grinders will last for decades, so those are a good bet too. Lets face it, if you can't tell the difference in the quality of tools, then you probably don't use them much anyway. read more
