I recently purchased a drywall lift and two boxes of the black nitrile gloves, two days before the Memorial Day sale. When I found the drywall lift and the gloves discounted down for the Memorial Day sale, I called the Pasadena store and spoke to a woman sales representative to see if I could get the discount price. At first she said, "No, we don't discount any items purchased before the sales price", but then she put me on hold to ask someone (manager?) about my inquiry. Then she told me, "Yes, we will discount the price as long as it doesn't have a restocking fee, which checked the items and the drywall lift didn't. She told me just to bring the receipt, and I didn't have to bring the items. So, I drove all the way from Alhambra to the Pasadena store. Low and behold, when I got there, stood in line, and spoke to the first male cashier, he spoke to the "supervisor" and she immediately told me, "No, we don't discount the items after they go on sale". To my disappointment, I asked to speak to the manager but she was too busy to come and face me to tell me the same thing. So, finally the supervisor told me they will discount it this time but not in the future?? Well, if they were honest with me in the first place, we wouldn't be having this conversation, and I would have just returned all the items, got my full refund, then bought them on sale!!! Terrible place to shop. I would of given it "0 stars" if the option was there. I've tried to purchase some simple tools that would probably be used 2x a year (knowing the quality won't last during normal wear and tear), and during each visit, it seems like they only have 1 cashier working with a line that twist in every direction inside the store waiting to pay. You can definitely see the "I don't want to work here" glare in the cashiers eyes as her peers walk through the aisles with 0 fk's in lending a helping hand. Don't attempt to flag one of those mindless zombies down and ask them for some direction to find a specific tool you're looking for....if the store had a "press this red button to ask for assistance and wait 20m before someone has the answer" button, you may see the writing on the walls that this place will suck the life out of you as it has with each employee you see. Harbor Freight Tools is the hardware store for the cheapskate contractor, handyman, and hobbiest. Here you will find the best and worst of what China has to offer...and that's it. You do not come to this store to find the nicest tools, you come here to find the cheapest tools...period. That said, you can expect to find great bargains...but remember, you generally get what you pay for. Some of this stuff will last for years, while some may only last a single use...if you are lucky. Things worth buying here: * Hand tools. You can seriously fill a toolbox for almost nothing here - and many items are comparable in quality to what you would find at more expensive stores. Some are crappy though, so examine them first and use some discretion. * Batteries!!! I don't buy them anywhere else. They are stupid cheap here, and there doesn't seem to be any appreciable difference in quality from major brands. They even sell rechargeables. * Disposable stuff: tape, sandpaper, staples (for guns), screwdriver bits, wire ties, dust masks, ear plugs, gloves, tarps, etc. Most of this stuff is identical to what you will find at Home Depot, so why pay more for something you are just going to throw away? * Specialty tools/items. You have to go in this place just to see the random shit they carry. Where else are you going to find sandblasting cabinets, hydraulic spreader kits, wooden dinosaur puzzles, and electric tennis rackets for killing bugs? Things to STAY AWAY from: * Power tools. Unless it is some weird (and otherwise expensive) gizmo you only need for one project, resist the urge. There's a good reason that orbital sander costs seven bucks. Trust me on this one. * Anything battery operated. Get the batteries here, but not the devices to put them in. As nice as that flashlight looks, it probably sucks ass. Don't say I didn't warn you. * Anything potentially life-threatening, or that might be needed to save your life. You have to pick your battles...and your bargains. read more

So you went to your mailbox and there was this ad for this super cheapo tool company. It brazenly stated "Free" at the top with a bunch of other random coupons. So you take a glance through it and some of this chit seems helpful and desirable. I mean when something says free it grabs your attention. Well they actually give you free stuff with the coupon here and I don't recall a minimum purchase amount. Hell I have been able to combine multiple coupons into a single order! These are not high end tools like "snap-on" or "craftsmen". However, they are the right price and let you do what you need to do. Let alone if it's some stuff where quality is not of the utmost importance, well this place has you covered without a shadow of a doubt! Pro Tip: DO NOT SHOP HERE WITHOUT A COUPON. It isn't worth it and you will waste your hard earned $$$ They have just about any tool from working on your car to electrical to woodworking to dremel clones. I have purchased a few things here at this location and picked up multiple freebees as well. It definitely rocks when you get a freebee and a coupon priced item on the same transaction or when you get multiple of each at the same time! Overall this shop isn't the cleanest, have the most knowledgeable staff, or even the friendliest, but if you need something cheap, don't need longevity or high quality, they have it here for you no doubt. A lot of people talk smack about Harbor Freight because they don't really understand them. Here is the low down: they sell cheap tools for cheap. They are very cheap in price and will probably break. Don't come here if you're a serious mechanic. But if you need a basin wrench just to replace a single faucet, you'll save a lot of money coming here. Also, in addition to basic tools, HF has a lot of random and useful household items. They have stuff for the garden, woodshop, mechanics, almost everything. And a lot of what they have is the same stuff as what you'd by somewhere else, but for half the price (i.e. zip ties, scissors, foam cases, etc.). They also have tons of sales. Oh man, these places are great to waste time in. Need an english wheel? Need an arbor press? How about a come-along? Maybe some 4x4 jackstands? How about a sheet metal brake? A low powered, low accuracy lathe? Maybe a combo mill/lathe? or MIG welder? If you don't know what this stuff is, no worries, this is the place to pick one up so you can hurt yourself with one while learning how to use it, inexpensively! Seriously, for low cost, handy tools for fixing up your hot rod, or just fixing stuff around the house, I'm still surprised that they carry this stuff, and you can take it home that day, as opposed to having a freight company from Enco or some other industrial distributor shipping this to you. read more

We seem to visit Harbor Freight Tools about once a month. Anytime we're doing a new project around the house and need a new tool, Harbor Freight is the first place we'll visit. They have cheap products that will do the trick! The parking lot is small and when they are having their sidewalk sales, it will be hard to find parking. But, it's worth it to circle around to find a spot because you'll find something at the sale that will be worth the wait. Everything is dirt cheap at this store compared to the other home stores like Home Depot and Lowe's. There is a reason for the lower prices - the products are lower quality. If it's a tool that you won't need to use all that often, then Harbor Freight will have what you need. But, if you're looking for something that you'll use on a regular basis and will last for years, skip Harbor Freight because the product will probably not last very long. Customer Service at Harbor Freight is hit or miss. Some days you'll find employees that are very helpful. Other days it will be difficult to find one person that is willing to help. The line to purchase your items is also hit or miss. Some days you'll wait in line for 20 minutes to buy your cheap product, while other days you'll zip through the line. So, if saving money is your biggest priority when buying tools, then Harbor Freight is the place for you. read more

My father loves this company, so when we saw it in Pasadena, my husband and I decided to stop and see what it was all about. First off, this place is like a playground for men! It appears to have every tool any man would need and all sorts of things for home improvement. It's a no nonsense, no frills kind of place. I would like to preface this review by saying that as long as a product has a certain set of standards, I really don't care where the manufacturing origin is. Unfortunately for this place, it doesn't seems like a standard exists in the first place. Sure some products don't need high standards: plastic boxes made for holding screws for example, should function regardless of how it's made; that axe you usually find in an alleyway to hack doors or people should resemble a big heavy duty piece of metal - and it does. But where things begin to matter most, these products looks like they would fall apart before you even began to use them. The problem here is that these cheap tools are occasionally kind of expensive since they are really just generic and straight from China that you could probably find in about 5 minutes on Google. But props for making them accessible in case you don't want to wait for a replica to arrive from China in about two weeks. Or in the case where you don't want customs asking you why you need to import 100 machetes. And as a result of all their shoddy cheap tools, it paints their more expensive equipment in a bad light regardless of how they would actually perform. But ultimately, what it comes down to is Sam V's honest and truthful review - this place stinks worse than a hobo's crack. read more

The absolute worst customer service ever! I recently placed an order online for work. I was never told my items were back ordered. I received an email with tracking number from FedEx. I tired to track the package online, and seen that the package was never picked up. Called customer service to cancel my order, I had to shut down my production after brushes did not arrive. I got hung up on twice by customer service representative. Called back to speak to a supervisor. Judy proceeded to tell me that a FedEx label was created, but they had no way to let FedEx know to pick up their package! She lied! They hung up on me! They refuse to refund my money. Although I question the quality with some of the items, it's the perfect place for the handyman, or handywoman, on a budget. I was blown away with how busy this place was and weren't sure where the line was until someone informed us that the line was behind him. I just wish that the location was easier to get to since you have to either come from the westward or eastward way on Foothill or the northern part of Rosemead blvd. Unfortunately we were robbed of all of our tools from our garage. We were in this Harbor Freight location and taking pictures of the tools that were stolen with prices to turn in the list to the insurance company. We were also purchasing some replacements. One of the workers came up to us and said we couldn't take pictures. I explained that we were robbed and it was for the insurance and he said it didn't matter we couldn't take pictures. I recently went into this store to by a generator. The tall black gentleman that helped me first was so nice and helpful . The co worker a short stout man who helped him load the generator into my car was the rudest person EVER !!! He had no Patients and was irritated that it would not fit into my trunk and they had to maneuver it to get it into my backseat. Once in my car the black gentleman thing to me and told me to have a nice day while the short stout coworker turned around and walked in giving me a dirty luck. They have removed the feature from their register software to find the transaction by the credit card used, which means they REALLY, REALLY don't want to give a refund of any kind. Very good customer service. They are friendly Professional, and knowledgeable. Tonight was a good night. Usually they have ridiculous line when I arrive. Today was easy. Usually it's a madhouse during a sale I'll keep you updated but today was great everything was in stock it was quick and easy. They had what I wanted and I got what I needed very easy to make an exchange and replacement under warranty. Easy breezy lemon squeezy! Everything is laid out simply and organized all Harbor freights are basically the same. You know what you're getting I don't have high expectations. I actually kinda like this place because mostly everything you need will be available here. The problem is the quality of the tools are pretty crappy. If you're using the tools for everyday around the house jobs, then yes it's plenty sufficient. But for things that require some force, I'd refrain from using these tools because it'll just cause you more headache. The layout of the place is good, pretty easy to find stuff that you need. The employees are helpful in assisting you. Customer service is great. They send coupons in magazines and newspapers for discounts, special savings, and even free small items such as a flashlight or measuring tape. As far as price, this place can't be beat for sure. The three stars are more for the quality of the products rather than the place itself. It's clean, organized, and very fully stocked. They always honor advertised prices, it's never really packed and they have a good sized parking lot. This place has specific items to offer, if you can find it, what I mean is it's not organized/categorized correctly. As little as this store is, you would think they would have a better system. You have to walk/look through all aisles just to make sure you're not missing anything. Aside from that, after my first 2 visits (3 days apart), I noticed the male employees are not friendly. In fact, they suck, to be honest. You ask them a question and they give you a short answer to get rid of you. Some guys walk away from you even if you/they catch each others eyes. However, the females (dark hair latina and older blonde) are quite the opposite, at least in my experience, they provide "customer service." So don't waste your time with the male employees, they are not welcoming nor do they know anything about customer retention. Get help/interaction with the female employees. This store always has weird outdoor banners advertising particular events. The current one says "Everything Must Go". Obviously this would mean the store is closing down, and the stock has to be liquidated. Well, it turns out this is only a gimmick to get people inside the store, and take advantage of sales items. I've never had a problem on returning stuff here, I've returned 2 welders with no problem and other little items. It's in the back of a shopping center... a little out of the way. It's one of the larger harbor freight stores I've been in. They do carry a few more items than regular size stores. Of course the quality of the items they sell isn't that great... but you get what you pay for. It's lunch k going to the dollar store for high quality items... not. Crappy tools but at a cheap price. A good place for rakes, brooms, disposable gloves, masks and some tools that you'd only use a few times. There are other tools that look sketchy, like it'd snap in half while in use and take your hand with it. Workers are the lowest bunch. They won't ask if you need help. If fact if you look like you need help, they'll probably make sure that they make a fast turn into another isle so not to pass near you. My latest frustration was with their false advertisement. They had these coupons for free flashlights, no purchase necessary. I made it a point to go so that I could get that free gift. It lured me in; I ended up picking up a new push broom for the house. At the checkout I gave them the coupon for the flashlight, and they said that they were all out. I asked them if they would give a raincheck on it since it was expiring soon. They said "no, it's first come first served". I said that there's no verbiage on the coupon that says while supplies last. The woman just ignored me, also when I repeated myself. She just said "sign the credit card slip". I mentioned that the flashlight near the checkout looked like the one pictured. Once again, she told me to sign the credit card slip for the broom. O K for expendable tools. Much is cheap imports that do not hold up well. Fit and finish can be crude. They have their retail price and mailer prices. An item can go from $10 to $7 to $4 or $3 depending on the coupon you have. Also there can be small print issues ($5 item but only with hidden minimum purchase. Line can be outrages as well. read more
