I tried this place last year and recall the service was subpar and cupcakes not very moist. Some reviews mention crumbly ... that means tooo dry. Moist doesn't crumble. Sure they look amazing but they should taste that way as well. Today I went back to try again and as I walked up to the door, the lady coming out with a child (assume the owner) says with a look on her face and not very friendly "we're not open yet" while closing the door on me. Then she turned around and walked away. Oh ok well that was not a great impression! No smile or sorry but we open at 12 or anything to make me want to return. I drive out of my way to go there only to be received by a rude person. Needless to say, I won't be back. Next time I'll try Traceycakes as I've heard good reviews. Hell even Safeway has better cupcakes and nicer service staff. PS it's a fact that places pay people or have friends/family to boost their reviews. I had birthday cake ordered from this shop. I got their name from a bake shop where I normally ordered birthday cakes for my family but they are fully booked so they suggested to me to try this Happy Cakes. Well, our experienced with their cake and service was disappointing. 1) I went to the store to pickup the cake. It was an 8in Get Cherried Away cake. I was surprised when the lady packed the cake. The box doesn't fit the height of the cake. She let the box cover half open and taped the cover flaps on both sides so as not to push down the decorations on the top. If you are selling signature cakes like this, you must have at least a proper box that would fit the cake. Even if removing those cherries and icing decorations on the top of the cake, the box is still short. 2) The layering of the cake was not done properly. I have ordered cakes from other stores and when you cut the cake you can see how the layers inside the cake hold up. Theirs does not. So when we took a slice from the cake, it would crumble when you put it on a plate. The cake is too moist. And the taste of the cake and the Bavarian filling is similar to the ready made cake you can order from a food store. I could have just bought a cake from a food store and would definitely get a proper box and would not expect so much on the taste as I get what I'm paying for. We just consumed a quarter of the cake and all of us didn't finish our slices. The icing is fine. 3) As what the other reviewers have mentioned, the staff who I dealt with when I picked-up my cake was cold and not friendly. Except for the one who took my order, she seems to be friendly. I entered their store with a smile and make sure that I follow their safety guidelines on Covid19. The bright side of all these is that the cake was for my birthday and not for my wife's and I'm the one who ordered the cake. Unbelievable! I ordered a custom cake. I called in and gave the specific details of a Tiffany's Box custom order, i had the picture from the Happy cakes website and was specific about the name to put by the bow.. I ordered in advance but timing was close, so i was incredibly clear when ordering, that they could have it done in time. To be very clear, I verified that they would have no issue making the Tiffany Box cake. They confirmed it would not be an issue for a custom order like this. They processed my credit card and gave me a pick up time. My husband went to collect, it was a basic round cake called breakfast at Tiffany's. Now let me explain, i have ordered cakes regularly from here, not custom. They literally gave me the wrong order. I called in and spoke to a girl and explained she had given me the wrong cake. I had told her i had asked my husband to turn around to collect the correct cake - the then proceeded to tell me I HAD MESSED UP AND WHAT i RECEIVED WAS EXACTLY WHAT I HAD ORDERED. She was so insanely rude and basically said well, we are not taking the other cake back, no point in returning it. She proceeded to accuse me of making the mistake when i didn't even order it with her! Let me assure anyone who reads this that I did NOT make any error. Cake picture on website, Order that cake, Confirm everything and pick up time, then pay - hardly rocket science. I asked for the owner initially Shawn or Lisa but i later found the owner is Rachel Jongejan and she hung up. So, the Tiffany party without the cake........unacceptable and very disheartening for a daughters birthday party. Mistakes can happen, BUT to be accused in the way i was, is much more serious than cake. The lack of ANY accountability is making me consider a more firm approach with this company/standards. If you read this, and there is no positive update from me, i ask for solidarity here, this could be your child super excited for a spiderman cake or a special retirement party cake, and if they mess up, this is what you will have to deal with. Use ANOTHER bakery, and if they loose business....then maybe they will reconsider how they treat their customers. read more

Honestly, their best cupcakes are anything that contain their cream cheese icing. The buttercream icing is good, but doesn't hold a candle to their cream cheese icing. On this occasion, I decided to try their filled cupcakes. I tried the following: BC Becky (get this!), Lemon Lust, Strawberries N' Cream, Chocolate Cheesecake (get this!), Boston Cream (get this!), Chocolate Coconut (get this!),Cadbury Cream Egg, Strawberry Poptart, Cookie Dough. Was close to 150.00 then we also ordered to cupcakes at the same time as we advised them we wanted to try it, they gave no sample and charged us for the cupcakes after spending a decent amount of money. Our wedding cake n cupcakes were so disappointing :( The cake was dry, the icing was so hard and gritty from the sugar we could barely even get the topper on the cake. We were unsatisfied with the product that we received from Happy Cakes. We had ordered a custom cake shaped as a Corona Bottle. I had originally sent the owner, Rachel, a picture of the custom cake that I wanted which was from the photo gallery on the Happy Cakes website. Coming into the store to pick-up the cake, I was surprised to see it as it did not look like the picture that I have sent to Rachel. After talking to one of the workers at the store, she had helped me fix up the aesthetics of the cake to her best abilities. During the upcoming night the cake was served, but no one finished their slice as it was too sweet. The cake had a thick layer of fondant on the top, approximately 3/4 inches. At the end of the night the remaining pieces of the cake was thrown away. The quality of their custom cakes is very poor. I do not recommend buying a custom cake from this company. read more

I liked that I could get different layers of chocolate and vanilla (best of both worlds). I send a picture of the decoration I wanted - different shades of purple rosettes. It was expensive as each shade was an extra charge. When I got the cake the rosette colors were not like I had requested via photo and not pretty. I was disappointed. I tried to place a small order for my daughters birthday, I called first and was told no problem they could accommodate my order all I had to do was email them a few pictures of what I was looking for. So I did, with no response for 3 days. I decided to follow up with another phone call and spoke to someone who assured me someone would respond to my email by the end of the same day. That did not happen... so I sent another email stating that I would like to get a strait answer before it is too late and I do not have time to make other arrangements (order from somewhere else). My husband and I ordered 36 cupcakes and a baby shower cake for our baby shower. He drove all the way from Burnaby in the morning to pick up the cake and cupcakes, total driving time was an hour. When he was there they only gave my husband the cupcakes WITHOUT THE CAKE. When I called them, they are still blaming my husband that he only mention he was picking up the cupcakes but didn't mentions about the cake. Bad Attitude and totally un-professionalism.
