Front staff is definitely not as welcoming and customer-oriented as they should be. If you arrive at 4.00 or 5.00 pm, the selection is very, very limited; the shop closes at 7.00 pm most days. When I made a comment on the lack of choices I was told " I was coming too late and should have come earlier"...definitely unprofessional. The chocolate base cupcakes are really yummy. We bought a cake for my moms 65th birthday party, we got the cake and it was very poorly done, It was dry, obviously made a few days before hand. We asked for a few extras to be added to the cake that were not done. We let them know we were not happy with the cake we received a backlash response from them. Thank you for doing such a fantastic job on my husband's pickleball racket cake I ordered! It looked exactly like his racket. Not only did it look good but it was the best cake we have ever had. The moist marble cake with scrumptious bavarian cream filling was a true hit, I thought I'd have leftovers but that didn't happen....they had seconds. The fondant was amazing, I could have eaten the whole cake. My husband wants to order another one just to eat. Lol Once again, thank you to your team and wonderful service on the pickup day. Kids birthday party I recently had my child's birthday party here. The party was in their back room that was a food prep room with cupcake blankets over the machinery. The cupcakes that were put out for the kids to decorate were the "seconds" I guess from their last batch of baking - i.e. some cupcakes were over flowing over the edge of the cupcake wrapper and some were tiny - not enough batter was put in the wrapper when they were baked. I guess to the kids - it really didn't matter what the cupcakes looked like. There were only 2 staff on hand in the store to run the party and to mind the store. I thought that there would be at least 1 staff member to help with the party but she had to disappear into the store quite frequently. Thank goodness I had my husband to help me! The kids were taken into the store front and shown how to decorate the cupcakes then they headed back to the room to do their own cupcakes. The icing was very stiff for little kids to try to pipe out of the bags but we managed for the most part. After the cupcake decorating the kids were taken back into the store front to play a ring-toss game. It was crazy! People were coming into the store to pick up their cakes and were trying to maneuver around a bunch of kids to try to get out the door without dropping their cakes! If I was the one picking up the cakes and had to deal with that - I wouldn't be back. I felt really bad for the other customers! Luckily we didn't have any accidents. I was asked by one of the staff if I would be bringing in food - I said I wasn't planning on it - then I was told that the party time would probably be shorter since they take time for eating food into account when booking the party times. I had already told everyone to pick up their kid in 2 hours! Brother! I explained I wasn't told this when I booked the party and the only answer I got was "well they should have told you that when you booked the party." Nice customer service! Not! Luckily we managed to stretch out the activities to fill the 2 hours that was booked. After the kids ate their cupcakes we were supped to do a craft - which was part of the party experience that I paid for. When I booked the party - I chose to have the kids make a necklace. When the time came for the kids to do their craft during the party I was told by the staff that they ran out of necklaces because they had lots of previous parties. Well, why didn't they make sure that they had the supplies on hand when the know they have a party coming up? Again, I would think this is a pretty basic task. You have a party coming up - you don't have enough supplies - so you go out and get them! So the kids at my party ended up painting these cloth pot holders. In the end, my child enjoyed the party but as a parent - I wasn't impressed. Also I had emailed the store at the beginning of May to inquire about a custom cake. I provided details and pictures and was told they would speak to one of their decorators and get back to me - it's now almost the beginning of June and I have not received a reply. Good thing I don't need the cake until August. Again, not impressed with the customer service. I won't be back. read more

We ordered cupcakes and cake for my mom's 60th birthday. The cupcakes were fine. However, the cake wasn't. We only took 1 slice and we ended up throwing the rest of it because it was very sweet. The guest who tried it said it was like eating sugar. Some tried a bite and they said the same thing. I am so incredibly impressed with this place! It was my cousins wedding this past weekend and we realized we forgot about the wedding cake! The horror!! I was shocked that Happy Cakes was able to sell me one of their display models of a 4 tier wedding cake with a 6" cake on top at such short notice. I went with happy cakes for unicorn themed cupcakes for my daughters 1st birthday. We've been to happy cakes a few times just for a treat, and we have always been happy! But I was not happy with the cupcakes my husband picked up for my daughters birthday. The colours were not the colours we had communicated about over email. I had even sent pictures for reference, not including the mini cupcakes were NOT what I had asked for. I had asked just for simple 1 colour icing on each cupcake, instead they looked very messy had 3 different colours and pearls on them which I thought would suit a mermaid theme birthday. I was not happy at all with the finally product of my cupcakes for the price that I had paid for 12 cupcakes and 12 mini cupcakes. Cupcakes tasted great though. This place has great reviews so I went because I was craving cupcakes. Now I have a picky palate so my review might be more strict but i went and bought a red velvet cupcake and chocolate coconut cupcake. The red velvet was described to have a cream cheese icing but when I tried it, it just tasted like regular buttercream which was really disappointing since I love cream cheese icing. The chocolate coconut had raw sugar coated on the top which i wasnt really fond of. Customer service was great, but I wouldnt come back here again. read more

Terrible customer service. There is a sign outside the door saying 2 people max in the store at a time . Great so no-one is in there so my 5 year old son and I go in to get cupcakes. My son proceeds to point at the cupcake he wants - the old lady who is extremely unfriendly behind the counter yells that he not touch the glass - Covid ! . He did not touch the glass he pointed . Then my son walks over to a sign with 2 faces missing that children put there faces in for a photo and the lady yells again to keep my child over with me ! First off why is a children's sign in the store if not allowed to use ? Second no one else was in there or can come in because we occupy the 2 people max in the store which I told her and her reply was someone might come in . Which means they aren't following Fraser Health's bylaws . Absolutely disgusting to treat anyone like that let alone children. We left with out purchasing anything. I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur when it comes to cupcakes, so I was anxious to try these. Price seems to be standard cupcake rate, a little high for the minis though. Tasted 2, with varying results. A friend bought me one that she wasn't sure of the exact name but thought it was 'Banana split'. Somewhat misleading as there weren't actually bananas in it that I could taste, it was just decorated to look like one. In fact, the cake tasted like a pineapple upside down cake, which was actually very good and moist. Frosting was very rich and fudgy, also good. Wasn't too thrilled with the Red Velvet though, it didn't really stand out to me. Cake was semi-tasteless, definitely not sweet enough, and the frosting was a bit on the chalky side. Have to admit that I've had better RV cake out of a box. Same goes for the Red Velvet Fudge. It was very dry and crumbly, and the flavor just wasn't there. I'd still like to try a few more flavors to decide if it's worth being a regular customer, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. read more

I would never recommend this place to make cakes for your special occasions. Their customer service is terrible, and they have no idea how to run day to day transactions. Their prices for their cakes are twice that of other places that do better work. I thought I would try this company out since they are close to where I live, but the overall interactions with the staff and the owner have definitely changed my mind! I drove an hour to get to this place because a friend of mine recommended it to me. I was desperate for a cake that no one could make in such short notice (3 days) but they did it! When I first walked in the store it smelt delicious and the cakes displayed in the front looked very beautiful. I ordered a piano birthday cake and it was absolutely stunning and exactly how I imagined it and done flawlessly. I have used this amazing cup cake store 2 times. The first time was back in August for my daughter's 4th birthday. She wanted a Team Umizoomi cake. When I called and spoke with the owner about the order, she asked me to send a picture of the team umizoomi and that they could print it off on edible paper and place it on the cake. Perfect. My bad, the picture I sent wasn't a very good quality, but she took it upon herself to find some better quality pictures and shared them with me so I could pick the one I wanted. Overall the cake was a hit and my little girl loved it. I was also warned by the owner when I picked it up to keep it cool as it was a super hot day and she wanted to ensure the cake was perfect! I was so happy I ordered my oldest daughters "spa themed" cupcakes from here as well. Again a hit. My daughter wanted different cake and icing-yikes so when I told the owner she was super accommodating and also added these cute little cake toppers in the shape of nail polish bottles. The other challenge I had was there were a few kids attending with gluten allergies. That was not an issue, in fact they tasted the exactly the same- so no kid was left out. I had a great experience both times and will go back next year for their birthdays. I would suggest you give them a try as quality is superb and customer service was amazing.
