I loved their unique take on cakes with their cakes in a jar which was a little mouthful of deliciousness! I got the tropical coconut and chai spice and I loved the diversity of flavours in the jar. I also got a pistachio white chocolate dessert (I couldn't remember what it was called) which I ate right away. I was a big fan of the number of pistachios that the included which added the extra crunchy texture in each bite. The staff member who was helping me seemed to not be having the best day and did not want to answer any questions. I tried out the Tiramisu Pastry Jar like a while ago! I was really intrigued by the layers in it! There was the addition of crumbled meringues to it which added a unique texture with the Tiramisu flavours of that pastry jar!! I didnt know what to think at first, but as I ate more of it, I really liked it! My aunt tried it too, and she ate her share just like that! ... and she doesnt even like or eat sweets!!! SOOOO GOOD! This review pertains to the Cloverdale location, which I highly recommend. I preordered a cake there for my sister's birthday and couldn't have been happier with the final result. I got the Butterfly Cascade cake in vanilla strawberry. You get a choice of colors for the icing and cake accents, but I decided to just get it exactly like the example picture. The cake turned out absolutely beautiful and everyone who saw it was blown away by how incredible it looked. Not only that, but it was delicious (tip: make sure to take it out of the fridge for an hour or two before consuming as it tastes much better at room temperature). Needless to say, my sister was over the moon about her cake! When I was picking up the cake, I was too tempted by the delicious-looking chocolate chip cookies and had to get two to try. They were scrumptious as well and I'll definitely get them again the next time I'm there. All in all, I would not hesitate to return here for my next cake purchase. It was Thanksgiving weekend and I was in charge of bringing dessert. I have been meaning to try out this bakery and family dinner was a good reason to make the drive. This bakery is located in a very busy plaza by Shoppers Drug Mart. Once you enter the bakery, there is an okay size display of goodies for sale. There are a couple tables for seating. I ordered a number of desserts to go and a couple macarons (pumpkin spice and earl grey) for dine in. It would have been more environmentally friendly if the macarons were served on a plate instead of plastic wrap. The bakery was busy so maybe it was just easier to package everything for take out. The macarons are one of the better macarons in Surrey. The cookie crust was fairly smooth. There was a slight chewiness with a creamy filling. The flavours were distinctive in a good way without being overpowering. The pumpkin spice macaron tasted exactly as described. The earl grey macaron was a delicate sweet flavour. The desserts were a hit and worth the price. The six desserts were about $40. The presentation was very good. My favourite was the pumpkin spice latte mousse cake. It was a piece of art and just as tasty. The cream puff reminded me of Beta5's cream puffs but not as fancy. However, it was still a very good cream puff with pecans. If you want excellent desserts, you'll love Just Cakes Bakeshop. I still remember the first day I walked into the shop: I was going to see Aladdin at the Cineplex movie theatre nearby and beforehand I made it to the shop. I was very impressed with the desserts I saw. Yes, these desserts cost more than the ones you'd get at a local supermarket, but if you want to get good desserts made with good butter and top quality ingredients, you need to try this shop. You get what you pay for in life and Just Cakes is a perfect illustration of that saying. I have also been on many cruises and tasted their desserts, but none of them will ever compare to Raveena's desserts at JCB!! Each dessert is definitely CRUISE SHIP WORTHY. I've also got to say that I love the menu change each month. My best friend and I always text one another before each release and get overly excited over the new month's selection. I decided to come back to Just Cakes recently and had a terrible experience. I had the Cardamom Dream once again and it remained a stellar option. Conversely, I found the Rocher to be less impressive, as the hazelnut filling felt 'diluted'. The macarons I tried were hit and miss. The most impressive macaron was the Watermelon, which tasted scarily similar to the actual fruit. On the other hand, the Root Beer macaron has a weird peppermint filling reminiscent of toothpaste. While this might not seem deserving of a one star review, my interactions with the owner, who introduced herself as Ravinuh (??), left an even worse taste in my mouth. She kept starring at my friend and I and I did NOT feel welcomed in her store!! I will definitely not be back. read more

Recently bought a to-go cake from here. It was the salted caramel chocolate cake. I was heavily disappointed in almost all aspects of this cake. First the box they put the cake in wasn't even the right size! They top couldn't be closed cause the cake was too tall. That just seems really unprofessional to me, as it made transporting the cake to the car more difficult. But the biggest issue with the box was long term storage. The cake is quite large and there was definitely going to be left overs. The exposed part of the cake ended up drying up and hardening in the fridge. This would have resulted in waste as each time I wanted another slice I would have had to hack off a slice of inedible dry cake. Thankfully, I didn't have to continue doing that, but only because after eating two slices I chucked the $60 cake in the organics bin. Anyone who knows me knows that this is a big deal. I have NEVER in my life thrown away cake. Usually cakes don't last long enough in my fridge cause I gobble them up! I honestly, truly wanted to like this cake. The flavours sound absolutely delicious. I love salted caramel and I LOVEE chocolate. But something was off with this cake. Seriously, both times I tried a slice I got a major tummy ache. The worst part of the cake was the frosting. I saw another review comment of the same issue I had. The outside frosting was super hard and it didn't stick to the actual cake so when you took a slice it would literally fall away from the cake. Apparently you need to let the cake sit at room temperature to prevent this, but who has the time for that??? I've never experienced such an issue with other cakes and shouldn't have to wait for this cake either. I'm upset about this experience cause it ruined my desire to ever want another cake from them. I hope this was a one time thing, and considering how popular their cakes are I'm sure it is. I definitely will not order cakes from them, but I know most of their pastries are delicious so I'll still visit for those goods. read more

Just Cakes bakeshop just opened up in Cloverdale today and I had to try despite a friend of mine in 2018 stating she had a cake from the Scott Road location that ended up in the garbage after one bite. I am not one to listen to people as a rule and need to experience things for myself rather than listen to someone else's opinion. Was excited to try things so hubby and I bought 1 of each of the 6 flavors of macarons, Cardamom Bomb, Raspberry Bomb, caramel cupcake, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate cake jar. I spent over $40 on these items, keeping in mind I purchased only one of each. Seemed like a lot of money, especially the cake jar which had the smallest amount of cake in the bottom, lots of an airy mousse i guess in between with a thin slab of ganache on top. I believe there was another thin layer of some type of icing. All in all, not worth the money. Very little taste but definitely if you are going to call it a cake jar, put some cake in it. Macarons were quite disappointing and I have had a lot over the years. Out of the 6 I tried, the only one that i could tell the flavor was the salted caramel and it tasted like store bought caramel. A chemically taste to it. All of the shells were hollow and crisp. Macarons should have a chew to it once they mature. These did not. They were larger than most but no flavor. The chocolate chip cookie may appeal to those who like a cakey type of cookie. I do not so I definitely did not care for it. Hubby liked the cookie. The raspberry and cardamom bombs were a bust in regards to texture. The flavor of the cardamom one was there but the raspberry one tasted like chemicals. Finally the caramel cupcake. The cake had no flavor but had a good texture but the swiss meringue buttercream was very good. The icing was the only thing that tasted truly homemade without chemical tasting commercial products. It is unfortunate but I will not be back. There are far better bake goods to spend my money on. This is one time I guess I should have listened to my friend! read more

First high end bakery that I know of in surrey which has been desperately needed for years. I hope they open more locations. Flavor of macarons was absolutely superb and texture perfect. My staff loved the various treats (coconut lychee eclair , red velvet cupcake etc) and remarked on how good everything was. As a vancouverite frequenting faubourg and thomas haas, and passing through surrey often, I have been searching for a high end patisserie. they have far more things I'd like to try such as their season autumn bar that looked delicious and a cardamom infused dessert. If they served simple brewed coffee or tea as an accompaniment that would be helpful so us our-of-Towners could have a refreshment w our cake . Much appreciated. Will go back . read more

I ordered 3 cakes from here our specials events this year. All 3 of them were really disappointing. I decided to order from just cakes based on the instagram pictures they post. But after my experience I can only say they post the best ones on insta and just attract customer. First cake I ordered for a birthday looked really ugly and no one believed it was from just cakes. I emailed the owner to give my feedback so it doesn't happen with the second cake. So the second cake looked pretty but flavour was not what I ordered. I emailed her again to make sure our third cake was correct. The third one was not again upto the mark and flavour was not the same as I ordered. I don't write reviews unless something goes really bad. And on top I emailed her every time to confirm my flavours and design plus provided feedback. She did credit me half amount for first cake but the mistakes were repeated. I unfollowed her from Instagram and won't visit the shop again. They just lure customers through those Instagram pictures but do not deliver at th end. I used to be a fan of their cake jars and ordered a bunch before the cake shop opened. But now the quality seemed to have declined. May be instead of always posting on Instagram, spend that time improving your quality. And actually follow what the customer says. read more

If there's only one thing you go to Just Cakes for I beg you that it be for the cake jars. The best buttercream I have ever had and I went to pastry School in Granville Island. I go to Surrey about once a week and it's really hard not to go and indulge in a cake jar every time. I confidently give them 5 Stars based on their cake jars. Went to the store on a Saturday to order a cake for the following Sunday (8 days in advance) and was told that their orders for that day have reached maximum capacity. I've never heard of that from any bakery. Tbh I was glad they weren't able to take my order because I found out that a single tiered cake would've cost $60 which is really steep for a surrey bakery. We moved to delta from coquirlam and there were many authentic French and Italian bakeries that charge no more than $35 for an 8" cake, and that's where we ended up getting our cake from. They also did not have a lot of pastries to choose from, not sure if it was a slow day or that's just how they are but they didn't even have tiramisu or mini cheesecake on display... and those are kind of the popular items at any bakery you go to. Also wanted to mention that the cashier was eating her lunch/snack while answering our inquiries. I ended up getting a cream puff and a red velvet cupcake but noticed she didn't wash her hands after shoving things in her mouth and before packing up my pastries Cream puff was very delicious, fresh and not too sweet. The red velvet cake I shared with my husband and both of us thought it was just ok. Due to the scarce variety of pastries they have and the price we will most likely not be returning. read more

I went into the shop in Cloverdale on Tuesday and placed an order for a cake. The cake I selected was in the refrigerated case. I specifically asked the staff member to have the words "Happy 71st Birthday". I was told no problem. I informed the lady that I would pick it up on Thursday and at the same time I bought two deserts that were in glass jars. The deserts were $7.50 each and very dry, not moist as expected and wouldn't buy again. I picked the cake up today and upon arriving home I found there was no wording re my wife's birthday. I called the shop and basically got lip service and nonsensical excuses such as the person who took the order is no longer employed and that she must have made a mistake and not mentioned it on the order or to the decorator. It's a pity the owner doesn't consider tearing up their pay cheques and tell them to come back in another two weeks. I understand people make mistakes but they made no offer to stand up to the plate and satisfy my needs and intentions for this special occasion. I won't be back at this shop, nor will my family. read more

This bakery is exactly what Surrey was missing!! I made a yelp account just so I could express how great my experience was at this beautiful bakery in Surrey! I pass by every so often and never have the time to go in, but I sure am glad I did today! The aesthetic of the place is what really caught my eye, it's finely decorated, very simplistic and clean looking. The front staff girl that helped me today was incredible, she was welcoming and engaging from the moment I walked in and really made my experience that much better. I was looking to get a cake but was informed ready made cakes are only available on fri, sat and sun. Nonetheless she did give me some great suggestions on pastries I could take to a family event, and even though they did not have their full selection (being as it was close to the end of the day, which was reasonable), my family fell in love with everything I brought. Props to the front staff for being so friendly and informative, and to the bakers for creating such magic.. its a skill only few can master, and they surely have!
