Recently started my vegetarian diet, due to religious beliefs and had to find a few restaurants for "Take-out Night" for the whole family. Absolutely try the Eggplant-Tofu dish. It is delicious! Lots of eggplant and large triangular sliced tofu. It has a mild Thai basil tamari sauce and the kids gobbled it up. Wish I bought 2 instead of 1. One of the best I have tasted around LA. The Chinese Broccoli Noodles was the worst dish I have had in the past year. No one could tolerate it. Save your money and pick something else. I even phoned in and asked for more broccoli and paid extra, but all I got was a piled of pale stalk shavings. 1) LOOKS NOTHING like the image online. The broccoli stalks were shaved very thin, pale in color which reminds me of celery. 2) The tofu and "chicken" is much much smaller and much less than the image online as well. 3) All I tasted was a very strong essences of GINGER, GINGER, GINGER. I like ginger up not this much. So this place is a hit and miss. Maybe the didn't have any fresh Chinese broccoli nor tofu chicken and tried to make something out of nothing. I'd like to see them have some special dishes on offer to show the creativity of the kitchen, and for them to set up some kind of check in offer for reviewers. came in for mother's day lunch, met the owner (?) who was very kind and attentive. we ordered the dumpling soup, which had a really wonderful broth. the veggies were kind of undercooked though. we also got the happy veggie wrap (banh xeo) and it came with plenty of veggies and was crispy. i wish there was more variety in filling besides tofu, carrots and mung beans. overall would come back here for a simple meal! read more

So this is an updated review from having been coming here for many years. Im not sure if there are new owners or new workers (i see a lot of new faces lately), but since ive seen the new people unfortunately quality seems to have gone down. I had a few go-to dishes and theyve all changed in unfortunate ways. The quantity seems to have gone down on several dishes, pan fried noodles is one. The sauce was my favorite part but last time i got it it was more of a soup and even the amount of veggies was lacking despite an +extra chicken order. The royal noodles the seasoning seems to have changed and the meatballs had like hard to chew parts which was immediately unpleasant. Thai tea is hard to mess up so that has luckily not changed. Our favorite appetizer the drumsticks were so incredibly oily i couldn't eat them i felt like i had to wring them out. This was my favorite vegan place left in the south bay and its been here what seems like forever so its sad to see this happen. The workers are super friendly too so i feel bad but this was my experience. The inside is clean and the parking is easy to find. I hope they turn things around asap. read more

I've been coming here since 2017 and it always hits the spot. I was a long time vegan (7 years) and now that I am no longer vegan, it STILL hits the spot every time. Their pho is THE BEST hands down. Today I decided to get kung pao chicken. The flavor is there, the portions are just and comes with rice. Service is quick and friendly! It's a small hole in the wall but so very delicious. I've tried many vegan Asian restaurants, and most of them have been excellent. Unfortunately, my experience with this one was very disappointing, especially regarding their takeout service. I placed an order for three dishes online, and the confirmation said it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived a little early, but the waiter informed me it wasn't ready yet and that it would be done soon. I waited... and waited. Nearly an hour passed, even though the restaurant wasn't busy--there was only one table occupied when I arrived. Despite repeatedly being told, "just 5 more minutes," the food was clearly not close to being ready. Had I known it would take that long, I would have canceled the order. When I finally received the food, I discovered that the packaging was poorly done--liquids had spilled all over the bag, making a complete mess. On top of that, the food was overly salty and not enjoyable at all. I was really looking forward to trying this place because of the great reviews on Yelp, but my experience was honestly terrible. This is one of the best vegan restaurants I've ever been to! I really enjoyed everything I tried - the pan fried noodles, the eggplant basil tofu, the Thai iced tea, and the strawberry cake. All delicious! Also there was no wait for a table, and our server, Vasuta, was SO kind and helpful. He even offered us a sample of the Thai tea before we ordered it so we could see if we liked it. Food is delicious. Been eating here since...2006? I should've left a review LONG ago. Ownership has changed at least once, if not twice, since Happy Veggie opened. This is the ONLY vegetarian pho I'll eat (I'm half Vietnamese, and NOT vegetarian), and I LOVE it. I CRAVE it, especially if I'm sick. They don't just throw a bunch of gross undercooked broccoli and carrots in there...there are delicious and delicately flavoured oyster mushroom things, cleverly seasoned and sliced so that different textures and flavours come forward. The spring rolls have "shrimp" that are SO realistic...and all the proper herbs and greens are in there, no lame cheat chopped iceberg here. (Yes, I've had that served to me at some "Vietnamese" places!) They do a French-Vietnamese fusion omelette thing...no eggs...I can't remember what the real thing is called, but it's massive, and abounds with fresh greens. SO flavourful. It's hard to get this dish at most Vietnamese restaurants, by the way. The curries are yummy too...but it's been so long, I always order the pho and spring rolls. I've got to be honest, the ambiance and service are...lacking. Owners, how about some plants? Music? Servers trained to have a smile and (bit of) enthusiasm? But...the food is so yummy, I don't care. And neither do many people, because they're still in business. And I hope always will be! Their recipes are TOP. OF. THIS. WORLD. And VEGAN!! (I'm a core carnivore/omnivore!) Just don't take a first date here expecting to impress with a romantic atmosphere, or stellar service, or fancy crockery and cutlery. Bare bones, YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. I don't know what all the negative reviews are about, but reading them compelled me to write a new review. I've been coming here for about 10 years, but the new management has given this place a new life. They are putting fresh new energy into everything which I appreciate since I've been a long-time customer. If you didn't know they added online ordering on their website that sends you updated pickup times to keep it as accurate as possible, which makes everything seamless especially if you have a busy life. You can also rack up points to get free meals, which has been such a game changer since I'm getting takeout at least once a week. They're also open every day of the week now which is so great, the amount of times I've wanted pho and realized it was closed Monday or Tuesday! Sure the service at times isn't Michelin star but they're busy and being someone who's worked in the service industry I have respect and patience for it. If you are unwilling to go to the counter to close out your bill or wish someone would check on you more than once, grab takeout instead because their food here is amazing. Their BBQ Vermicelli Noodles with chicken has taken the number 1 spot in my heart lately. I recently tried their Chicken Curry, Kung-Pao Chicken & pan-fried noodles.. they all had such unique and delicious flavors. The place is decorated nicely. They were playing instrumental soft jazz music at a reasonable volume, allowing conversations around me to happen without any shouting. I ate the pan fried noodles which came with veggies, soy chicken, and the noodles. It was delicious and the portions were very generous. The "noodles" were these flat patties that were soft, chewy, and crunchy at the same time, and they soaked up the sauce beautifully. The service was good as well. I went with my partner and a friend from out of town a few weeks ago -- my first time since the renovation and menu update. Service was superb, and I was pleasantly surprised by the range of options. My friend asked if it would be possible to taste the "fish", and I was impressed when the chef provided us with a few fried bites to try. Every time my family and I go out to eat, we always look for new vegetarian restaurants to try. When we found this Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant, it was right up our alley! We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. We were able to get seated right away. The interior was very clean and had plenty of seating. The restaurant offered a good variety of different Vietnamese dishes from noodle soups to salads and rice entrees. My family and I opted for the pho and the vermicelli noodles. I really enjoyed the bbq vermicelli noodle dish. The vegetarian beef was also really delicious. The only complaint I had was that the noodles are typically served cold or room temperature, but when the dish arrived to the table, the noodles were still piping hot. The noodles don't absorb much of the flavor when it's hot. Overall, still very good. My mom is quite picky when it comes to Vietnamese food, but she seemed to enjoy the pho too. read more

I'm not a vegan but my wife is and I like to go with her and share so she can try more of what these places have to offer. Where we live there are zero vegan options for her so it's often an hour or so to anything worth while. This place is probably top 5 of all the places we've ventured in the past 16 years! ( I drove two hours to get here ) The pho was phenomenal well flavored and has that home cooked meal vibe that makes you feel cozy, the house special wrap is an experience!!!fresh herbs like cilantro and Thai basil and the sauce it comes with... wow words can't explain, just try it ! A perfect dish!! our waiter was attentive, polite and accommodating. We felt very welcome here and comfortable. The beach is a 15 minute walk away so the cool breeze funnels into the restaurant during the afternoon. Fresh plants and a very clean dining room made it all the more enjoyable. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Nice all-vegan options for the area, but a bit on the bland side. The hubby and I happened to be in the area and did a search for vegetarian/vegan and this place looked promising, as we're big fans of vegan Asian food. I'd forgotten I'd been here before years ago (this is why I check in and write reviews, haha), but I think it might've been owned by different people then. The decor certainly looked different, if not necessarily better. The atmosphere wasn't fancy, but we weren't really there for that. We got an order of egg rolls (knowing we'd be taking most of them home as leftovers), pan fried noodles with vegetables, and "chicken" clay pot. I also got a fresh coconut to drink. The food was fine, but I wouldn't say spectacular, and the egg rolls especially seemed rather bland. The pan fried noodles dish was interesting in how they did the noodles--they were like crispy little pizza slices. Good, but a bit unusual. We had to ask for hot sauce as they don't provide them automatically. Flavor was much improved after application of said hot sauce. Thank you for the response. Unfortunately I went back last Wednesday and the situation was the same. One dish came out an hour after we came and we had to leave before the other dish came out. (pan fried noodles came out first and we never got to the happy veggie wrap) I inquired on why it took so long and the employee told me about the drama in the kitchen as well as the amount of take out orders you got. I still found it weird since there were only 2 other tables occupied other than mine. I hope you get it sorted and please update my review when you get it sorted out. I probably won't come back until I hear back as I really can't wait 1.5-2hr again. Ordered the Mongolian beef, dish was decent taste wise , portion size was a bit on the skimpy size I felt . Also ordered the Pad Tai dish that was delicious, albeit came with chopped purple and green cabbage , that had no sauce or dressing on it was totally perplexed by it and was bland as it gets. The flavors from each dish were pretty good but all dishes came out lukewarm. Each dish had some parts that were hot and some parts that were completely cold, kinda like when you warm something up in the microwave and it doesn't heat up evenly. Not sure what that was about since it took quite a while to bring the food out. The food was fresh but the temperature definitely impacted the experience. The waiter was very kind, the restaurant was quiet, and the food felt healthy and was served in family style potions. After reading previous negative Yelp comments I decided to see for myself. This was an instance where I should have listened to previous comments about food temperature. Very nice people but I would love to see some improvements on my next visit. read more
