Saigon Eatery is what I would call a fast-casual style Vietnamese restaurant! Instead of a large bustling restaurant, there are only maybe about 10 or so tables inside. You order your food at the counter and take your seat, and the server/staff brings it out to you when it is ready. I went here on my lunch break, having a craving for pho and limited time, so I ordered their Saigon Pho, which I believe is their equivalent to a pho dac biet at other restaruants. Within maybe 5-10 minutes, I got my pho, and it was hot and tasty! Their broth is a little less rich than some other places that i have tried, but their pho is definitely cheaper than other socal locations. I think that their meat could be a little bit better, as I didn't like one of the meats that they included in their saigon pho, so next time I would just not order that meat. Broth is clean, yet has a lot of depth and soul to its flavor profile. True food enthusiasts can tell that this place takes their craft seriously. We dined for dinner on a Saturday evening. We ordered two varieties of Pho which were brought to our table in large bowls. At first glance it looked like a pretty big meal. But those hopes were dashed when we realized the bowls contained a whole lot of noodles and broth and very little meat. I mean a really little portion of meat. The pho lacked flavor and needed a good dose of the chili that was at the table. Everything considered we got two bowels of noodles and a little meat. The spring rolls were okay. They looked good but were a bit overcooked. The cashier was very nice. He told us they were out of pork chops (that my guest wanted to order). Other than that he was polite and brought us our food. UPDATE since review: They were out of ube so I was just given a plain coffee which my friend said tasted bad (she was also handed something different than what she ordered and also wasn't told beforehand). When I saw the plain coffee right away I said I couldn't drink that and asked if it's possible to get the matcha milk tea instead which she said yes to. However when it came out it was again different than what was said--there was no matcha and it was just plain tea. I understand that it was a freebie but still disappointing that we weren't told about the change beforehand as we were expecting something else. In hindsight I would recommend getting the free appetizer instead, though I was really looking forward to reviewing the drinks here and the drink menu looked better than it really was. Surprised the service took a turn for the worse after we wrote the review and negated our opinion prior to it. We were practically ignored for a while after we showed that the review was done. We ordered on the kiosk, my only complaint is you can't make any notes or changes to your order on that so you have to grab someone to let them know. Cozy spot with delicious pho and friendly service! I've been to Saigon Eatery twice now (once for a weekend lunch and once on a weekday evening) and both times were a great experience. It's a relaxed, casual spot that's perfect for dining solo or with a small group. During my most recent visit, I got the "Pick 2" Pho which was only $12 and lets you choose two meats from brisket, meatball, ribeye steak, and boneless short rib. I went with the brisket and ribeye, and it was delicious! The broth was nice and hot and it came out pretty quickly. They gave a generous portion of bean sprouts and lime on the side and they brought the chopsticks, spoon, and napkins on the tray as well. They also have Sriracha and other sauces on the tables, and a self-serve water station with cups. The first time I visited, I ordered through a kiosk at the front, but the second time the kiosk wasn't working so I ordered at the counter. The person taking my order was super friendly, and the person who brought out the food was just as kind. Such a great spot for Vietnamese food! Very disappointed. I'm honestly surprised this place has a 4.4 rating. The pictures are clearly outdated because the inside looks nothing like the photos. The restaurant is pretty worn down and doesn't have the clean, inviting atmosphere you would expect. The price isn't the best, but my pho did come out quickly, so I'll give them that. However, while I was waiting, I overheard the table in front of me say, "It's a little too salty for my taste." I didn't think much of it because I actually like my pho a little on the saltier side. But after trying the broth myself, I understood exactly what they meant. It was ridiculously salty and completely overpowered the flavor of the pho. I should have read more of the reviews beforehand because multiple people mentioned the same issue with the broth being too salty. The amount of meat was decent, but the portion of noodles was honestly terrible. I finished the noodles within just a few bites and was left with mostly meat and broth. For a bowl of pho, the noodle-to-meat ratio was way off. What also bothered me was the lack of service. I really don't understand why you would be expected to tip when there is barely any table service. You order your food, sit down, get your own drinks, go up to the front yourself for additional vegetables, and then have to return your own tray and bowl when you're finished. My first choice was to go to have some pho at Fresh Daily Pho and Grill but they were closed due to a maintenance problem they had. So I yelp the next closest pho and it was Saigon Eatery. I had the chicken pho. Broth was ok, chicken was a bit tough. They gave you a huge amount of noodles, but not enough broth or chicken. I then also had the egg roll. Not impressed. It was wrapped I wonton, not like the tradition rice paper wrapped egg roll one. The traditional Vietnamese eggroll are wrapped in rice paper to make it fluffy and crispy. The bill came out to be about $27 with a can of Sprite. I think it's a bit overpriced for what I paid for a bunch of noodles with little broth, few small pieces of chicken and three small egg roll.
