I'm so happy I found this place. I do not like a majority of the Chinese spots in the South Bay. Ever since Golden Pheasent shut down, I have been looking (and failing) to find something decent to replace it with. This place definitely hits the spot. It's so hard to find good sweet and sour chicken at most places. It's usually dark meat with a ton of breading and it's just plain gross. Since our favorite Chinese restaurant closed a year or so ago I've been in search of a good replacement. We've now dined here 4 times and I really enjoy it! They have great lunch specials but their regular menu is very affordable and well priced for the size of each entree. The inside is very clean and well organized. Workers are friendly and do a good job of making sure food comes out in a timely manner. I have had several dishes including Mongolian beef, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, bbq pork, kung pao chicken as well as their wonton soup which is my favorite!, my big plus is even the fried items cone out and taste fresh and not greasy. My husband has enjoyed other dishes as well as the egg drop soup. Definitely a spot in our regular rotation. If you have not tried it, you really should! read more

I'd like to say CHINA YI is sort of that middle ground of Chinese Food BTW - If you're in China, they call this cuisine, simply... "Food" :) It's not fast food or steam-tray like you see at Panda Express or strip malls geared towards non-Asian customers who seek stereotypical 鬼佬 (Gwai Lo) who love fried rice, noodles, orange chicken and anything fried. Their menu has those items, but they're prepared better than most restaurants like this does them. The service is friendly. They're attentive. They bring out the food fresh and it's prepared custom fresh to order. I tried their lunch special which is comparably priced to a Panda Express 2 item Plate, but here you get equal to or greater than potions of the entrees, maybe less of the starch/carb base rice or noodles, but in a way it's more because you get a nice scoop of rice and a decent portion of noodles that adds up to a bigger collective portion. You also get the Egg Drop Soup, which I'd honestly say I could drink a full bowl of it, it's good and I'm love to order it alone one day and get full on the soup. The Entrees are good portions. I think I picked the wrong items I'd switch to different ones next time. I went for the Tofu with Vegetables. The Tofu wasn't the style I'm accustomed to. I knew it was Fried, but it was a tad on the thinly cut and fried so was more firm than soft. I also ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken (maybe I should have gone for the Orange Chicken), which was fried and into small bits that were okay. My friend ordered the Broccoli Beef which looked good and the Baby Bok Choi, which looked okay ('tho my friend said it look and tasted not farm fresh and maybe aged a bit). It's about $13 for the 2 item plate for the "Column A and Column B combination that comes with the chow mein (it's the soft thicker noodles where I prefer them thinner, 脆 personally) and fried rice (which was standard, and it was fluffy fresh and good) I think this is the type of place you go to for "Family Style" to enjoy many entrees to share among many guests. Tried China Yi today, a newer Chinese restaurant in the South Bay, and came away with a positive first impression. I ordered a takeout two-item combo with Mongolian beef and walnut shrimp, which came with both rice and noodles. The noodles were better than expected, and both entrees were flavorful and well prepared. The prices felt reasonable for the portions and quality. I only tried a couple of dishes, so I need more visits before forming a strong opinion, but it seems like a promising addition to the South Bay Chinese food scene. read more

I was in the mood for Chinese food and haven't been to this location. When we entered, I was delighted to see that the booths were tastefully decorated and clean. It's not a large restaurant but there was also a good line ordering take out food as well. We didnt know what to order so we ordered from Menu A and chose the General's Chicken (my fave) along with the Beef n Pepper. The appetizers, OG egg rolls and crab rangoon served up fast and fresh, not greasy as well as the Pork fried rice. Yum! Our General's Chicken had a nice batter and the Beef n Pepper was tender. We were surprisingly impressed. Fast, fresh and not greasy. A great value with the option to dine in or take out. The staff was fast and friendly as well with several servers bringing our food. Tasty Chinese food! Located on 190th on the border of Redondo Beach and the City of Torrance. China Yi is in a large strip mall that was Jon's Marketplace, Play It Again Sports, Chase Bank, and more. Parking is plentiful and easy to get in and out. It's a cute, small, yet welcoming restaurant. The employees are friendly. I placed a to-go order with the cashier and while I was waiting, they were kind to offer me and bring an ice water cup. My to-go bag was prepared and ready quickly, probably less than 10 minutes. I had actually just missed the cutoff for the lunch special but even so the price was still good. The hubby and I shared an order of sweet and sour pork and their house chow mein. Yum! It is a random spot in the shopping plaza, i think it took over yum yum donuts. but it works. it was pretty busy during our visit, friday around noon, which is great to see. plenty of 2-4 person tables inside. we ordered two of their lunch specials. which they serve til 3pm daily! each lunch special comes with fried rice, chow mein or white rice or 1/2 & 1/2. each lunch special comes with corn egg drop soup. I am always on the lookout for good Chinese lunch specials and was quite pleased to discover China Yi. China Yi is a fairly new spot in Torrance. It's only been open for a month but from the looks of all the folks dining when I came on a Friday, it is quickly becoming popular. They serve lunch specials till 3pm daily and there are two types of combos to chose from. They have a combo one for $9.75 and a combo two for $12.95. Combo one includes one item while combo two comes with two items. Any seafood dish is $2 extra. All combos are served with fried or steam rice, chow mein and egg drop soup. I came with my mom and we chose to each got a combo two. She got the Chicken Wing with Salt Pepper and the Moo Goo Chicken. I got the BBQ Pork and the Beef Pepper Steak. We both really liked the Chicken Wing with Salt Pepper. The chicken wings were served hot and fresh and were so crispy, with a slight hint of spice. My second favorite dish was the Beef Pepper Steak. This one was so flavorful. I loved the tender slices of beef, crisp bell peppers and onions all coated in a savory, pepper forward sauce. I also enjoyed the Moo Goo Chicken. Light and simple, this dish had tender chicken, mushroom and lots of fresh vegetables. My least favorite was the BBQ Pork. It was a bit on the dry side and came out slightly cold, making it less enjoyable than the other dishes. Overall, I really enjoyed lunch at China Yi! I'm very happy to see another Chinese restaurant n the South Bay. China Yi just recently opened. It's nothing fancy but the food is solid. We ordered pick up on a night when no one wanted to cook. Ordered the fish fillet with black bean and the tofu salt and pepper. Both these dishes come with rice. We also ordered the Taiwan style chow fun. I can see why they state they cook with less salt and less oil. You can really taste the difference in the food. It does taste healthier. The fish fillet and the Taiwan style chow fun were delicious. The tofu was good but I guess I was expecting the tofu to be crispier. The price point is reasonable but I don't think the servings would satisfy a hungry teenage boy. Would definitely have to order more dishes All and all I would recommend China Yi and I do look forward to checking out the rest of the menu and also dining in. The food here is so good!! We've been here at least 4 times now. It's consistent, big quantities and the value is even better!! I'm not a Chinese food expert, but I know I like flavorful, spicy (when necessary), fresh and chunky Chinese food. I like big veggies, the kind that are big enough that you immediately recognize that it's an onion, broccoli, carrot, etc. China Yi doesn't disguise the veggies, hallelujah! I also like spicy when a menu indicates the dish is spicy, sometimes with a chili emoji. I expect to enjoy some heat, something that makes me feel like there's a party going on in my mouth. Rarely do I find where spicy means s.p.i.c.y. The Hot & Sour soup was neither spicy (as indicated by the chili emoji) nor sour, but it was hot, stove hot, so there's that. The Fish Fillet in Spicy Gravy hit the spicy mark - he loved this chef's special and commented that the hot & sour soup would benefit from whatever spice is used in this dish. Friendly? Absolutely. Swift service? Bingo. Plenty of parking, easy in and out. Decor is refined with bright but pleasant colors which is a far cry from many Chinese restaurants whose color seems to often times default to: pink. Love the ambiance here. I like China Yi and I enjoyed the broccoli beef, house chow mein, spicy fish fillet, and the egg rolls. Loads of food, and I'm grateful I was conservative on ordering just a handful of our favs. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes such as Combo Kung Pao, General Chicken, Mongolian Beef. From the outside its looks like a new Wok Wok China take out place. Its not. The seating is not comfortable the sofa type bench seating is too deep and makes it difficult to sit and get in and out. You wont find 15.95 soup here, my Hot and sour was 8.95 ate three bowls there and still took some home. Very deep flavor and had some heat lots of ingredients. Most soups on the menu were below 10 Fried rice was good huge chunks of chicken and pork cubes and a nice smoky flavored rice. Peking pork chops expecting red sauce was Korean style brown sauce but still had a very nice grow on you flavor my friend did not like it said it was OK. I kept eating and eating this stuff and it grew on me. Lastly tried the Piggy buns Azuki red beans stuffed in China Bao with piggy face put on cute The prices are on the down low almost pre pandemic our bill 54 total this was cheaper than Bum rice we tried last week that bill for tasteless take out was 64 before tip. Glad we found this new hidden gem in North Torrance. The place had new decor and service was eager to assist. We were about to order our normal 2-3 dishes and stumbled upon a dinner special for $55 generally for 3/4 persons. It was a very good wonton soup. Loaded with cha shu chicken and shrimp. It came with egg drop soup, fried rice, chow mein and I chose kung pao chicken and pork chop with peking sauce for the two-entree selection . The cornstarch slurry was quite evident in the soup and Peking sauce; the thickness and glossiness were there but the flavor/seasoning, was lacking in the soup while the Peking sauce was on the sweet yet bland side. The owner definitely made the place feel more like a community and family restaurant. Seats are nice and comfy, well cushioned as they're practically sofas. Ample portions of food for the price paid, especially a lunch special evoking 2010's prices. Flavor is decent, slightly catered more to Americans while still retaining some authentic Chinese profiles. Beef noodle soup could've used more spices and a chili oil condiment on the table but otherwise the portions of beef gave it its value. Yay it finally opened I got an order of Kun Pao beef, beef with broccoli and red bean paste piggies. Specificity no MSG on each one. Person I am with has an allergy. However, the portion was small. If you think each dish is enough for two, that won't work since it was not enough to fill me up I definitely encourage the restaurant would increase to a larger portion without compromising price and quality. The flavor was there but not on the same level as you would get in Monterey Park. The nice owner came out to the dining area to check on me and other diners to see if we had any questions. Ate there 3 times. So good! I'm an immigrant from Asia and this food really hits the spot for me, PLUS the fact it's such good value. I have to say I notice how carefully the owner decorates this restaurant and they really aim to do their best in everything they do. I would consider this mid-level Chinese and judging it on that criteria results in a 4.5 (rounded up to 5) star review. The place is clean, nicely appointed for a strip-mall, and inviting. We were seated promptly despite the restaurant being quite busy. We ordered some wonton soup, (surprisingly good) some chow mein noodles, (my wife enjoyed them) beef w/broccoli and moo shoo chicken. All of the entrees came with white rice. The food was fresh, plentiful and quite tasty! The service was no-frills but prompt and friendly. The parking spot is good, we were able to park outside. A beautiful floral arrangement awaits us at the front of the restaurant, adorned with traditional elements as elegant as the inside of the restaurant. For anyone who takes greeting seriously, I would say that while we were seated, the energy of the staff feels more calm and chill. If you are an introvert who prefers less talk and more action, you may enjoy this place. What I respect about the staff is that they are so considerate. The moment you order, they inform you of what is in the food. If you have any allergies, do inform them beforehand! A suggestion for anyone new to the cuisine. As I mentioned in the first sentence, the place is beautifully decorated and the cleanliness is excellent. The staff are very patient and they assisted to every request. When the staff handed us the menu, we ordered Siomai, Szechwan chicken, Thai tea, and later on decided to get Crab Rangoons. However, I have stumbled upon a couple of issues. Firstly, I was unaware that it took a bit longer for the Szechwan Chicken to come. I recall that there were times where we thought our food was going to finally arrive, but the staff went SIKE! And gave it to the other table. We'll our Siomai came first. My sister was a tad bit disappointed because of how little the portions were, but then again, that was expected for me because I did see it in the menu. My sister liked the siomai, but I wasn't really a fan of it. It really depends on preference though. The siomai is cooked well, very hot and the inside has the chewy meat. Our crab rangoons came second, very crispy. I love the filling inside, extra creamy and fills you up really quick. At that moment, I have completely forgotten about the chicken because we did wait quite a long time for it to arrive. I am unsure of why. Since this is my first time trying the chicken. Me and my uncle tried the Thai Tea, which my uncle and myself agreed tasted like the kind you get at the market. It tastes a bit more watery than sweet, which isn't my kind of flavor when it comes to Thai Tea. And for the grand finale, we finally recieved our Szechwan chicken after all of the wait. The chicken is crispy to the max, spicy but not too much. My sister mentioned that it was very aromatic. The chicken was packed with strong flavor, very distinctive and unique. As a lover of crispy and flavorful food, I recommend this restaurant if that is the kind of thing you are looking for. So far, I loved the crab rangoons and the chicken. My sister and uncle both loved the chicken and share mixed feelings of the Shomai. I personally loved the crab rangoons and the Szechwan chicken is second place for me. Tried this new place out because a friend recommended it. So we got take out. We got hot n sour soup, it's their kitchen sink version with fake crab in it, lots of chilis & peppercorns. I didn't love it. It made my mouth numb something that I bit into. I like traditional hot & sour, my husband liked it though. We also got Sichuan chicken again loaded with chilies if you're afraid of spice, definitely shy away from this one. It was good again not my favorite. The good: 1) wonton in chili oil: nice dumpling, not too thick dough, could be much spicier 2) crab rangoon: most places just do the cream cheese. At least you get crab with a K. 3) shui mai: not the normal ones or the ones in the photo even. These are more of a bulb with a long neck. Doesn't taste like the typical one either. Have been craving the Honey Walnut Shrimp. Went about a week after they opened. There is seating in the front of the restaurant, but you can order takeout, which is what we did. They do separate the sweet-and-sour sauce from the chicken when they give it to you to go so it does not get soggy.
