Honestly feel like I've been going through a bit of a divide in terms of AYCE shabu shabu. Either it's all you can eat at a reasonable price and you exchange quality for quantity/value, or you pay a lot extra for quality. King Plus Shabu Shabu appears to be a rare place that strikes the right balance, get the basic AYCE menu for regular occasions (and a balance tiled more towards affordability), get the premium menu that includes ribeye and brisket for when quality is on your mind (and stomach). They are plenty large enough inside, have ample parking, and the additional portions of noodles/veggies are quite generous as well. We love going here, although they're a bit out of the way for us-- always fun to watch us all roll in from directions all across the map because some of us love the place that much. Absolutely FANTASTIC! The restaurant doesn't show well in some of the pictures on Yelp to me, but do know, it's an excellent and wonderful setting indeed! The meat was super fresh, amazing, and delicious. The restaurant was spotless clean, the staff exceptionally friendly. I think the owner was actually slicing some of the meats, and he was incredibly accommodating, engaging and attentive. Full transparency we only selected this please because of the Resy credit thing but I was pretty impressed. The place was really clean and modern. I love the single serve pots which felt clean. The selection of veggies and noodles from the selection was great. Only one bad thing was we had to wait a while for the meat to be cut. The food quality was excellent, and you can actually see them slicing the meat at the cutting station in the middle of the restaurant, which was really cool. The food was yummy, definitely hit the spot for the cold weather. We came in on a Tuesday night with a reservation of 4 at 7:00 pm, they unfortunately weren't ready for us and took about 25 minutes to get our table. It wasn't anyone's fault as it looked like they only had 2 people working the tables. The restaurant is quite big and clean! As we finally got our table, we opted for the AYCE option as we were celebrating a birthday. It is definitely on the higher end for pricing that i've paid for AYCE shabu. Our orders and drinks were placed, however, we didn't start enjoying anything until about 8:15. The quality of meats was definitely on the higher side of quality, we enjoyed everything on the premium AYCE menu! I feel if they had additional staffing our visit would have been more pleasurable. Pretty good shabu shabu place in the plaza with South Play. Place is pretty big and seems very clean. Each person gets their own bowl and I love their sukiyaki broth. I'm on a hunt for good hotpot so I decided to try King Plus. The staff was very friendly and helpful during the entire experience from sitting us down to explaining the menu and thereafter. We went with course A on the menu. The 3 cuts of meat and veggie bowl with appetizers and a drink for $48/person. Overall, the food was good. There were just certain things here and there that made this place feel average. I decided to go with the spicy miso as the broth and we received 2 dipping sauces, garlic, radish, and green onions for toppings/dipping. The broth was ok. It could have used more miso to make a bold flavor and it wasn't that spicy. Maybe mild spicy for my liking. The dipping sauces really helped with overall flavor. I would have liked a bolder flavor of this broth. I felt that the amount of meat in the course was fine but I don't think it was enough veggies. I wonder if making it unlimited veggie bowls could justify the price. Which was another part that for the amount of food, serving size of various dishes, and overall quality of the meats and broth. It felt that it didn't match what you would get normally. Compared to the rest of the menu, and what you get from the course it's a great choice but due to the other factors I mentioned above it didn't make sense. I will say the appetizers were good and the staff was lovely. I don't see myself coming back and making the drive. It's a cute place for a date night though it could use some changes, in my opinion. Had a very bad experience a few days ago. Came in for a reservation for 2 people around 1pm on 2/14. There was one party of four in the middle of their meal but the restaurant was otherwise empty (and it's a pretty big restaurant). Waiter sat us at the bar and declined to sit us at a table because there were 'around 50 reservations between 2-5pm'. I think there were probably a couple of ways this could have been handled better than a blind adherence to policy without regard for context, but OK. When seated we asked about the AYCE menu. The waiter first said they hadn't started AYCE yet and that would start next week. I double checked since I remembered seeing it all over their website and Yelp page, and I showed him the website showing AYCE on 2/14 from 12-2pm. His answer then changed to 'the owner told me last night that we can't do AYCE because we have so many Valentine's Day reservations'. I said can you ask because it's on the website (and the reservations he was referencing were coming after the AYCE timing window anyway), and he said he wasn't sure who to ask 'because there are like 3 owners and I'm not sure which one forgot to update the website'. We said OK and left. To be clear this special is currently advertised on this Yelp page and has been offered by the restaurant for a long time. The waiter acted like it was a new thing that hadn't started yet and changed his response after we caught him in the lie. The seating situation was annoying but ultimately not a big deal. It was just compounded by the blatant misrepresentation and lying from the waiter. It was sort of unreal to us to be sitting in an empty restaurant and treated like everyone was too busy to figure out a solution to the problem. The parking lot is located behind the restaurant, near the car wash entrance, in a small center with several other businesses. When we arrived, we found no host or sign-in system at the entrance, and no designated waiting area nearby. We stood there for a while until one of the busy servers noticed us. She was friendly and quickly seated us. The restaurant was about half full, but there were only two servers on staff, which led to slow service. It was clear they were stretched thin, running around to take care of everything, and it felt like too much work for just two people. Despite this, the servers remained friendly, so we didn't mind the wait too much. One downside was the volume of the place--it was quite loud, and the TVs were playing the news. Honestly, no one wants to eat dinner while being bombarded with negative news stories. It really took away from the overall dining experience. As for the food, it was good--freshly prepared and tasty--but it didn't justify the high price. There wasn't enough broth or vegetables, and they used regular cucumbers instead of the Persian ones typically found in Asian restaurants. In the end, while the food quality was solid, the service was significantly impacted by being understaffed, and the prices felt a bit too high for what we received.
