I've ordered the duck from Top BBQ & Noodle a couple of times before, so I decided to stop by for lunch today with a friend. I ordered the pork chop with black pepper sauce, and it was delicious. It even came with a side of garlic noodles, which was a great addition to the meal. We also got a free side of deep-fried mantou, which was a nice bonus. The service here is excellent. My friend is vegetarian, and our waiter was incredibly helpful and patient in trying to figure out what he could actually eat on the menu. He was even honest enough to warn us that the oil used for the fried mantou might not be strictly vegetarian. That being said, I honestly don't recommend coming here if you are a vegetarian. The options are extremely limited--my friend pretty much only had the choice between garlic noodles or string beans. Overall, it's a solid spot with friendly staff and really good food if you eat meat, and I'll definitely be coming back for the pork chop or the duck. But if you or someone in your group has a strict vegetarian diet, you'll probably want to look somewhere else. read more

Tried out the Shrimp Scrambled Egg from their lunch special which includes side soup and veggie egg roll. Egg roll is meh. Side soup tasted like powder based which is light in flavor. Chili oil did save the side soup. The omelette was well balanced in flavor. Cooked to perfection as the egg was very fluffy. Bok Choy is plain boiled. But good to cut down from the saltiness of the eggs. The shrimps were large hibachi sized and very plump! I got around 9-10 pieces of shrimp which all were consistent in scale. I was dropping off dry cleaning on a warm summer's eve after a grueling days labor and caught a whiff of something familiar that pierced the scent of starched collars and freshly hanging garments in front of me. Oil. But not just any oil, the unmistakable smell of oil toasted to perfection in a wok. I was tempted. I have food at home, but the rice hasn't been made and the broccoli and ground turkey from my favorite local grocery store (Costco) remained uncooked. I decided against my better judgement to take a stroll to see if my nose deceived me. That's when I saw a sign that said "now open" and a picture of familiar cuisine such as french style beef and similar accoutrements. The spirit of my ancestors grabbed me and guided me inside. I grew up in the SGV and I'm half Chinese so when I saw the restaurant was completely empty, I knew there was an injustice. In that moment, I thought of my friends parents who owned restaurants that were all gas no brakes in my home town that went under it wasn't in the best location, or had a TikTok trendy spot open next door, or were caught for a teeny tiny cockroach infestation. I asked for a to go menu; I needed to make rice and ground turkey and broccoli at home, but I could study its contents for my return trip to the dry cleaners. They gave me a regular menu and I was browsing the wares listed when something caught my eye. Mapo tofu. And complimentary steamed rice? I was transported to my childhood, similarly to Anton Ego from Pixar's hit film "Ratatouille" to reminisce on fond memories of a time long ago. I paused. I looked around the restaurant, still empty with exception of the kitchen staff watching the 49'ers game. I'm no hero, but in that moment, I hoped my patronage this evening would be enough to save this establishment's sales target, and that any passersby's would be drawn in with the presence of a guy who kinda thicc and clearly know what's up with food. I stepped up to the counter, similar to Shohei Ohtani to the plate in the second inning of game 4 of the NLDS where he goes yard to drive 3 runs. I ordered confidently, and remembered the sign outside. "How long have you been open?" I asked inquisitively. The sign outside seemed new, the pictures in the window did not have the hallmark fade and yellowing that staple Chinese restaurants often have. The waitress replied "About 4 years". That threw me off not going to lie. And that is the excuse I'm using because it definitely didn't take me like 4 times figure out how much tip I needed to round up to 20 bucks. I'm no hero but that was ~20% tip on a take out order. I thought "why did they have that sign posted if they've been open for so long?". Little did I know, that would not be the last time I fell for the lies and deceit of this establishment. I joined the present remaining staff in the evening's entertainment and opened Yahoo Fantasy Sports to the pleasant surprise that I was about to win my first match up of the season 79.4 to 34. My opponent forgot to set his line up but my team sucks so I take those. No sooner did I check the score, I was called back to the counter. The waitress was bagging my order, and deflated a massively puffed up airtight bag and handed it to me with a "wow, I thought that would take longer!". I too was surprised because it had been less than what I'm guessing is 2 minutes since I had ordered. I doubt they had reheated old food, and rationalized it as their wok being powered by a medium sized neutron star. Wait. The balloon of a bag in my had had too much space - it only had a the mapo and was missing rice. I didn't want to cook rice, that would mean the mapo would be cold by the time it's ready and half the point was so I wouldn't have to cook. Plus, what restaurant doesn't give rice with mapo tofu? Well, this one apparently since I asked and she said rice is only complimentary for in-restaurant orders. "That's not what the menu said", I said, thinking back to the red bar above the section stating "complimentary steamed rice". "It's only for in restaurant orders, would you like to add a side of rice?" the waitress asked. Several thought crossed my mind: "maybe I didn't read the menu right?" "Pretty sure I did, I could be petty and change my order for here so I get rice" "Nah that's rude" "So you're telling me there's a big a*s rice cooker behind you that has rice in it and you have zero customers in here to eat it and the menu that you handed me when I asked for a togo menu to order a dish traditionally eaten with rice listed right below a big red bar that says complimentary rice, doesn't come with rice and I have to order a side of it?" "Relaxxxxx we might be hangry but let's not make a scene in front of the zero patrons in the restaurant and just take it and go" I left half empty handed and disappointed. I came here specifically for their crispy pork belly since I live very close to this location, but I was informed they haven't sold this for a while. I wish they hadn't told me this because now I will no longer patron this restaurant. It is because of this, and the roasted duck, that I have decided to no longer come to this restaurant. Located on the border of Torrance and Gardena, the restaurant, with its casual décor, is large enough for 60 guests when 2 large round party tables are included. The always-friendly staff brought the menu and water right away. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes (which started arriving within 10 minutes): Roast Duck: As expected, the duck skin was crispy, and the meat was plump, tender and nicely seasoned. Beef Chow Fun: The seasoning was super flavorful, and the glossy, but non-greasy sautéed thick rice noodles had a perfect texture. The beef pieces were tender, and the portion of bean sprouts was just right without overcrowding the dish. Wonton Soup Noodle: The thin noodles were perfectly al dente. The broth was light but flavorful. The wontons had nice thin wraps, and the fillings were well seasoned and with pleasantly firm consistence. We left the restaurant feeling 110% full and satisfied. This used to be South Bay decent Cantonese cuisine and BBQ. Their roast duck USED to be so delicious and full of flavor and juicy tender meat with crisp skin! My family and I have been eating here since they opened. I haven't been in for a few months because their prices has always been pricey and some dishes are just not affordable anymore for the quantity they give you. I also heard the 2 different owners partnered has split up. Today we stopped by since I came back to town after a vacation and picked up some food for my family before heading home. Their were 2 roast duck hanging in their showcase. Looking dried and shriveled, not too appealing. I asked if they have anymore inside and the chef said those are fresh, all made today. Ordered 1/2 duck, and 1/2 soy sauce chicken chicken. Took like 15-20 minutes to prepare it. (Which before, all it took was like 5 minutes to cut up and box it up) as I'm sitting there waiting, I watched as the BBQ chef went to kitchen get the soy sauce chicken on a plate with plastic wrapped around the plate. It looked like the chicken was cold, brought out from the fridge. He cut the chicken and took it back to the kitchen to heat it up and then brought out again to box it up for me. The Roasted duck and the chicken looked and tasted like day old meat. I've been eating this all my life so I definitely can tell if they are fresh or reheated. Obviously to me, it was reheated. It might or might not be made today but it was a big disappointment. :-( It just didn't look appetizing, when I got home, tried it and the meat was chewy, hard. The skin on the duck was soggy and the chicken skin looked like it shrunken and fallen off and they just places on top of it. See my pics below, showing solid evidence of comparison. Might just skipped it from now on and go try the new 99Ranch market that has Chinese Cantonese bbq station in the market. The whole duck is $4-$5 cheaper. If you like Cantonese Chinese cuisine, this is my current favorite in the South Bay Beach Cities area. You can save a lot of time (and fas money) not driving to Irvine, San Gabriel Valley or Chinatown with the OC, SGV and DTLA areas taking 45 mins each way from Redondo, Manhattan, Hermosa, etc Cities. The quality is really good. The prices are 2025,as opposed to being fixated as I am about my notion of what food should cost that's an antiquated perspective of the 80's or 90's eras 30+ years ago. We have been coming here for a few months now and it never disappoints. My favorite is definitely the shrimp wonton in chili oil. The cucumber salad is also a hit, never knew how well it could mess with peanuts. The beef chow mein is another great dish as well and today we decided to try out the shrimp fried rice with garlic. There was chunks of garlic in it which won me over, and with some chili oil on top made it even better. The service is always on their game here asking us if we are good. Today they had some duck left over so they came to ask if we'd like a dish of duck with rice or in soup. We decided to try it and glad we did. That broth was delicious. What a great find! My friend and I have been going through our list of local restaurants to try and we finally made it to Top. The inside of the restaurant is pretty large and airy with lots of seating available but I'm sure it fills up quickly. When you first walk in there's a lobster tank to the right, you can see the peking ducks hanging and the scent of seasoning fills the air. We got here for an early dinner (4:30) and got to sit where we wanted. The young server was really attentive and left us to check out the menu while he went to make the thai tea I ordered. We started with the salt and pepper fried tofu and OMG!!!! I could buy this appetizer everyday. There was a little citrusy flavor to the seasoning and the crispy tofu was tossed with sliced jalapeños and green onions. There's no dipping sauce for this appetizer and that's perfectly fine but we did dip it into the chili oil for an extra zing. For our main meal my friend orderd the kung pao chicken and I got the pork belly and rice. We enjoyed every bite of food. There's a lot to choose from in the menu--seafood, rice dishes, fried rice, noodles (fried and sautéed), a variety of beverage options, and several appetizers. Just know that if you're going for the dim sum they stop serving those at 3. A casual eatery that we're excited to go back to. The good: I chose this place because of the spacious interior because I have two toddlers who can't sit still in their seats. I got the shrimp asparagus dish, the 3 meat combo plate (duck, char-siu BBQ pork, and chicken), and whatever B2 was (beef with carrots and bell pepper stir fry). They had fresh/live lobster in a tank in the lobby area. They played top 40 pop music. The interior is large and is good for hosting larger groups. The food came out in a timely manner and the portion sizes weren't too big. I liked that the asparagus still had a bite to it and wasn't overcooked. The bbq duck was meaty and not overly greasy. Overall, the meal was pretty good but wasn't necessarily the best Chinese I've had. The workers there were friendly with my toddlers. The interior has a casual feel and a lot of interesting photos on the walls. Family-dinings style is the way to go here. The bad: The beef in the B2 dish was tough. The interesting: There's no outdoor seating but this is pretty standard for Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants. Rice is a separate side order for main vegetable/meat entrees. Growing up in the 626, Chinese food is very homey to me and much don't compare. We came on LNY eve and it was quite quiet in the restaurant. The menu is large and each item we ordered was delicious, but especially the Cantonese bbq. The crispy pork had a perfect balance of fat to meat ratio with the crispy skin. The roast duck was flavorful and juicy as well. It's nice to know that I can find good Chinese without driving all the way to the 626. read more

I'll preface this by saying I have ordered this place every weekend on doordash for almost a year, I have also been to this place in person a bunch of times, I always get the full peking duck, sometimes I have also ordered 2 or 1.5 or even twice in a week. That being said it was really great and consistent for almost 9 months, good portion, cooked well, something I looked forward to. But the last 3 months, the consistency of the portions and quality really dropped significantly. Even the way they prepare it was really different, cut differently quite a few times. Pieces and parts of the duck clearly missing, undercooked, a half order or less delivered. I just don't understand why they would allow this sort of thing for solid customers, I have even referred a ton of friends to go to this place. I'm not sure what's going on here, but I am extremely disappointed. I had a really frustrating experience with this restaurant's phone customer service. I called to place a fairly large takeout order--Peking duck, mapo tofu, and beef fried rice--and let them know I would be paying cash. The employee told me they wouldn't start cooking until payment was made first. I explained that during a previous visit, I ordered Peking duck to-go, paid cash, and ended up waiting about an hour. At that time, the owner actually told me it would be faster to call ahead next time and place the order over the phone. I was simply trying to follow that advice. The employee said she would check with the owner and call me back, and she took my number. She never called. When I called back, I got the same employee. Instead of following up, she just repeated the policy again. I told her I understood the policy, but she had already said she would check and call me back--which she didn't do. She admitted she "forgot." When I asked for her name, she refused to provide it. This would have been an order over $150, so it's disappointing to be treated this way as a paying customer. Poor communication, no follow-through, and lack of accountability. I'm sure the owner wouldn't appreciate employees handling customers like this. Don't go to this restaurant. read more

Went for dinner, initially wasn't busy, but about 5 minutes later got busy. We ordered our food and about 10 minutes our fried rice came out and then about another 5 minutes the fried tofu came out. We wanted to have our fried rice with the 2 combo platter (duck/pork), fried pork belly, and the beef with either bok choy or Chinese broccoli. But the other dishes didn't come out till about 20-25 minutes later. I know they were busy but they were serving people with the similar orders before us and we had ordered before them. Mind you it was only for of us. The server who took our order small in stature heard me incorrectly when I ordered the crispy pork belly the al la cartel version because she brought out the individual order one. I informed her she placed the wrong one but gave us the stink eye. But us being patient people, we let it slide. My wife and I have been coming here since they opened, but it will not deter us from coming again. Food is always great when it's served on time. Ordered the crispy seafood chow mein and the combo cha siu, chicken and duck plate. Both dishes were good. My only issue, and it's not with the restaurant, but with the way I like my noodles. I prefer the noodles to start out crispy then soaked up with gravy. These noodles, at least some parts of it, just stayed crispy. I'll see if they're still crispy when I eat my leftovers later. The customer service was friendly. The interior was bright and clean, although a football game playing on the TV didn't quite mix well with Christmas music.
