Mandarin Kitchen is a takeout/to-go restaurant only. I recently tried it for one thing: lion's head meatballs, a traditional dish rarely on Chinese menus and if you do find it, it's usually at Taiwanese or Shanghai cuisine restaurants. The meatballs (which are made with pork not lion of course) only appear on the Uber Eats menu, not the regular online menu. Listed at $19.99, much pricier than the rest of the menu, I crossed my fingers that it would be well made and a good size portion. My goal is to find a restaurant that makes this dish for the days I'm extra tired, because it's a very time-consuming process for me as I usually make it from scratch at home. Happy to report the meatballs are up to expectations and the portion size is worth it. I still prefer my own homemade Lion's Head meatballs but am glad this restaurant is around to help if I can't make them myself. I also ordered another entree and it was pretty solid. Not bad for a takeout only Chinese restaurant. I do wish I could dine there because I know that it would be even tastier if I could eat the food fresh from the kitchen. read more

Ordered delivery from Mandarin kitchen last night. Was so optimistic. However, it was the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. I would normally not leave a bad review ..... but this was really bad. Every single dish was a fail (except maybe the crab wontons which were ok). There was almost a complete lack of flavor in everything. I couldn't distinguish what I was eating.. it all tasted the same. Even the sweet-and-sour chicken was bad. .... Good variety of tasty Chinese food and we come here frequently. Service is fast and courteous and very efficient. I always forget to tell them I don't need utensils and think they could save on plastic utensils, if they asked. . The ambiance is small and definitely a take out only place. My wife got me some keystone dishes (honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef, and combination fried rice). Let me start by saying the food was ON POINT!! So delicious and not overly seasoned! No MSG that I could detect, and they added steamed rice on the side. Overall a wonderful experience that will have me coming back for more!! Parking can be a challenge, but street parking on the residential street has always been available. Ordering online is super easy and they take card and have photos on their website! My dumb ass nerdy hypochondriac side wants me to type "Mandalorian Kitchen" for some reason. For many many years of driving down Torrance Blvd.... I would always pass by this place and its sign, wanting to try it, but never did. Recently, I finally tried it because many others on Yelp have talked about it, good and bad; so I wanted to experience and judge it for myself. All day, I didn't eat any breakfast or lunch, so when I was craving this, it made me way more excited to finally try it because from all the pictures on Yelp, their walnut shrimp and orange chicken looks amazing! As I arrived to this destination, I had to damn near play chicken with the very busy street in which I had to U-turn and drive into a small area to park in the back of this place. Thankfully, they didn't have a lunch rush and it wasn't busy at all. It is such a small restaurant to where there's basically no seating at all. I guess it's mostly known for its take-out, but whatever... I'm all about the quality of the customer service and food, mostly. The people working and taking my order were really nice and patient with me as I took decided. Their $7.99 and up lunch specials are actually pretty damn cool because you get a choice of 3 different soups, one egg roll and cheese wonton or something.... So I got the special with green beans and with orange chicken with my soups being egg flower. I loved how they packaged my food so nicely with the very durable stapled paper bag and cool meal prep looking containers. Once I got home, I was extremely excited to finally try their food, so I dug in!!! So I've tried so many Chinese places' food and I'm kind of picky and have different standards because of how spoiled we have it here in So Cal. Honestly, I expected more flavor from the fried rice and egg flower soup. The orange chicken... I expected a little more flavor and crunch. Their green beans tasted just ok to me as opposed to other Chinese spots. For the price I paid, it wasn't bad and it was worth trying at least once. Maybe I needed to just order, sit down and have their food freshly made there???? But I can't because their seating area is so small. I mean, I STILL want to try their walnut shrimp, so I'm most likely going to give them another try!!! I wish Yelp can have me pick a 3 & 1/2 stars... because that's what I give this place. Older and folks in general who are trying to watch their salt intake will probably love this place more because it's possibly the least saltiest Chinese food I've ever tasted. Orange chicken: was probably my favorite out of everything we got. I definitely will try the sesame chicken next time. Szechuan beef: the sauce was good and it wasn't spicy but I liked all the bell peppers that came with the dish. First time getting take out and I'll definitely order from here again. It's really a shame that I have to give this awful place one star. I placed an order for delivery and without question, it was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. The veggie egg rolls were gross. Crispy on the outside, soggy on the inside and absolutely no flavor. They were obviously fried in rancid oil. The foil wrapped chicken should have been called foil wrapped rubber bands. Everything was completely flavorless. Even the fried noodles were stale. We love mandarin kitchen! And have been ordering take out from here for years. We loved their orange chicken. Recently, they have changed their orange chicken recipe and it's just not good. The chicken is over fried and the sauce is too sweet. Please go back to using the old recipe. We've tried it a handful of times now and are always disappointed. Where have I been all these years in Torrance? This place is excellent! Every dish is made one at a time. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and reasonably priced. The walnut shrimp is fresh and tender. The fried tofu is fresh and well seasoned. The orange chicken is crispy and sweet. Finally, the chicken chow fun is delicious and generous amount of chicken and noodles ( not too much of fillers like bean sprouts). This place is number one in the South Bay. Our favorite take out / fast food Chinese food place in the area. Their kung pao is delicious! We used to like their orange chicken, but it is not always good. Prices are very affordable. I love a hot and sour soup! They give a full containers worth for the small. My 1 year old daughter loves their beef chow fun. I'd advise to call ahead because it does take 15 to 20 minutes. I got the combination chow mein and beef broccoli. Both items were very good. The broccoli was fresh and the amount of beef was amazing. It's a small place, so while waiting for my food I could see the chef cook - which was really cool to watch. Service was courteous and the service was really fast. I guess I simply don't care for takeout Chinese. I haven't found one place that is hands down fantastic....and Mandarin Kitchen is the same. If you're hungry, it will fill your belly but i wouldn't add it to my top 10 list. Full disclosure, I'm not typically thrilled with dine in Chinese either. Dishes often taste all the same to me - I can't taste orange in orange chicken, or garlic in garlic shrimp and the spice level and options are underwhelming. I mean I love broccoli and beef...I'd think broccoli beef would be super tasty, unfortunately for me the dish is missing something. Maybe I'm too picky, but this is true - egg rolls do not travel well, by the time you eat them, they're soggy. In any case, nothing tasted bad...but nothing made me say "oh, I want more of that". Hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. Bbq prk fried rice was decent, just not a lot of pork, the orange chicken was lacking any orange flavor and the Schezuan beef wasn't at all spicy. Well, it was food. The egg flower soup smelled really bad. I made it through one bite. The hot and sour soup had a level of spice that meant I could take TINY little spoonfuls.
