After getting a snickerdoodle from Hudson's Cookies in Atrium Food Court at Fashion Island, Newport Beach, I strolled on over to Happy Lemon (HL) that's right next door. This is my 2nd time visiting HL. First time here though. I forgot what I ordered last time so I had to try something new. I saw Green Tea with Salted Cream and thought it might be a good choice. Somehow green tea was a bit bitter for my taste. Salted cream was nice and smooth. Just wasn't the best combination IMHO. Cute cup though! Young lady staff was nice and cordial. Price was decent. I'll have to try their other specialty drinks to see what's actually good at HL. I haven't found it yet. For now, I'm not quite convinced. Although, my nephew loves their drinks. A huge disappointment. This is our first visit to a Happy Lemon location, so I'm not sure if this is how the drinks usually taste, but we were quite disappointed. I had fond memories of that so that's usually what I would recommend ( gotta sip it first before u mix). They don't have the mini qq taro balls at this location and the toppings range from 0.75-1$+. I got the boba milk tea at 50%, and it wasn't sweet at all so I think full sweetness is okay at this location. The boba was a bit hard though and flavor was mostly black tea. Overall, I was happy to see a happy lemon but I think there's better boba places in irvine for the price. Because it's been busy whenever I've gone on the weekends, I decided to try them on a less busy day and was able to stop by when doing returns at Nordstrom's yesterday. It is next to the cookie place and is on the same floor as Barnes and Noble, the gelato place, Five Guys, Panda Express, and Chick-Fila. They sell tea drinks and bubble waffles. On Wednesday it was very quiet and there was no line, which is great if you're looking to go on a less busy day. The pair behind the counter seemed to be doing some training and they wrapped it up before waiting on me and thanking me for my patience. As the name implies, a lot of their drinks have lemon as the star flavor profile. I was in the mood for something without caffeine, so I went with the lemon Yakult with half sweetness and no aloe. (If you do leave off the aloe, you could replace with something else, but yesterday I was content without having boba or any extras on this drink.) You get a number for your order and they show it on the screen as they work on it and other orders in the queue. Once your drink is done, they put it out on the counter to the left of the machine that seals the top of the cups. As I was the only one there at that time, my drink was made very quickly and was ready in a minute or so. At half sweetness, this was pretty well balanced with the lemon and Yakult flavor. I might want to try it at 30% out of curiosity, but this one was good. Staff were friendly and worked to get the orders done. It's my absolute favorite but thought I'd give Happy Lemon a try since I was already at Fashion Island. The menu is only available at the register, which held up the line. Beware - they don't let you adjust the sweetness level here. Even with the delay I only waited about 5 minutes for my drink. I didn't love the tea. It lacked flavor and I wouldn't have guessed it was mango green tea. They did give me a good amount of lychee though, which was nice. Sadly, this won't be my go-to spot. read more
