I was craving something sweet but healthy, and this was the closest, best option in the area! Parking: They're located in a business plaza, but finding a spot is easy. Ambiance/Environment: This is a 24/7 vending machine. It is located outside of a quick service spot. There is limited outdoor seating. Tip: Figure out which flavors you want before opening the fridge. I guess it's motion censored (?), so if you pick up a jar and place it back, you'll still get charged for that jar. I'm speaking from experience lol. Don't do what I did. Service: Self-serve vending machine. Don't worry, they have detailed instructions! Card only; no cash. First, tap/insert/swipe your card. Next, open the fridge and grab the flavors you want. Don't forget the coconut flakes and spoons! After you grabbed everything, close the fridge. That's it! Your card will be charged after. If you want a receipt, type your email right after the fridge closes. They also have to-go packets on the right side of the machine. It also had detailed instructions on how to package the jars! Desserts: I got 4 different flavors. The texture is like a dense pudding; easy to swallow. 1) Original Coconut - Can't go wrong with a simple coconut flavor! A bit confusing at first on what to do since it's a self serve kiosk! You just swipe your card and the fridge door will open. Grab whatever you want and as many coconut shavings on the side. I loveeeeeee their pudding. God, it's so good. My husband is also a huge, huge fan. This stuff is delicious, and they use very basic ingredients to make this dessert. I'm not even a big fan of coconut in general, but I love their pudding. It's a tasty coconut pudding that truly does justice to the flavor of the fruit. It's sweet, but not overwhelmingly so and doesn't taste artificial. The only drawback is the price point is pretty high, but it's definitely worth it. I tried this way back at an OC night market a while back, and have seen them in many restaurants. I've only tried the original and peach, but really looking forward to trying the coffee and matcha flavored ones in the future. Vastly prefer the original to the one with diced peaches. I thought it'd be fresh, tangy peach cubes, but my husband and I thought they tasted pretty bad. They don't exactly tasted canned or anything, more like a dense sugary gummy almost? Won't be getting this particular flavor again. I visited their flagship store and the lady at the front gave us some samples! She was nice and quick with my order. The store itself is pretty small, basically just a window where you can make your order inside a larger building, but it's clean and bright. Suits its purpose. I was in the area and wanted to look for Kokonut. This Costa Mesa location is their flagship dessert bar location in a heavily industrial complex. You would pass the Hood Kitchen Space if you weren't really searching for it. It is generally a takeout location that takes orders at a window or online via GrubHub or any of the familiar food delivery services. When I was there, there was a large group of 8 people in front of me in line that seemed like forever for them to place and cashless pay for their order. All orders (fresh-cut fruit) are generally made-to-order, so if you come here, bring your patience. Kokonut is a coconut pudding dessert that is light and refreshing. It is both dairy-free and gluten-free. It is served in a plastic mason-like jar and topped with a number of different fresh-cut fruit choices. I ordered the mango flavor kokonut since my first choice (black sesame) was sold out!! I was surprised that a flagship store would run out of any of their flavors! Nonetheless, the fresh mango went very well with the smooth texture and subtle flavors of the coconut pudding. The side toasted coconut flakes enhanced the flavors even more. It was truly delicious, 50% sweet, 70% healthy, and really a great dessert option. Now the bad news that I need to mention. Being the flagship location, there is no reason in my opinion to run out of any flavors. If I went to one of their satellite locations (which I did as well), I can understand running out of a popular flavor since they supply the satellites from this flagship location. Being in business for a couple of years, they should have a good profile of what flavors sell and by how much to establish the right stock levels at every location. Secondly, this dessert is pricey. The cost for any flavor kokonut serving jar is $10.50 ($12.00 at the satellite locations). The price point is above what a "take-out" dessert should be set especially considering they should have a much lower overhead than a typical brick and mortar store. Maybe if they cut the cutesy mason jar or expensive cooler packaging, they could lower their cost and charge a more reasonable price. Lastly, for a flagship location, I went when it looked like there was only 1 employee working. The person took the order by the group in line and then executed the order after clearing the line. I waited over 10 minutes for my order to be completed. They should have had at least one person taking the orders and one person executing them. Don't be in a rush if you come here! Despite all these negatives, though, Kokonut is still a very tasty and delicious dessert option; hence it still gets my 4-star rating. I just wouldn't have it every day or week at $10.50 ($12.00 elsewhere) a pop. One day, maybe, I will get to try the black sesame kokonut. read more

Been here multiple times now and each time I come, the quality seems to get worse and worse. When I first had it when they opened, the fruits were super fresh and the coconut pudding was super creamy and tasted vety coconut-y. Now the fruits are sour and thr coconut pudding is bland with no coconut flavor. Very disappointed with their quality of fruits especially when the fruits are supposed to be in season. Like mangoes are in season now but the mango was so sour. Not sure if I will ever come back. read more

Not sure if coconut jello type of dessert is the latest trend but they have been taking over the red pins on a map for desserts. For the pudding lovers these are panna cotta. Sad to say all their flavors are very very easily replicable especially with a fraction of the price. Not saying this isn't worth it but it's not. The taste is balanced well but it's.. just lacking. I want to say I love the packaging, presentation, space logo and even the industrial kitchen location is kewl but all of it amounting to something I've made at home multiple times with more flavor combinations and glassier jars. This is a 24 hour atm like location. You just pay and then you're able to take whatever you want. You're only charged for what you take. You can also get coconut flake packets to put on top. Kokonut is a similar dessert like melo melo or Hui Lau Shan but not as sweet. It tastes healthier. They have a variety of flavors. Tried for the first time at the Panana Night Market at Ontario Mills. There was no line, they gave out samples and service was friendly. We got one peach, one mango. The coconut flavor fell short for me and the texture was more like jell-o than pudding, pretty firm. The amount of fruit was good and I did like the bags of toasted coconut flakes for added texture. But I took a second look and it's outside on the left side of the taco spot. Easy to use. Was disappointed in the selection. i'm a big fan of coconut desserts and i had a craving so i drove all the way out to costa mesa to pick this up. Kokonut is located in the Hood ghost kitchen. while i was there, the worker received several calls asking for location clarification so i guess not a lot of people could find it. she was super nice. she let me try a sample of the coconut base and she gave me some honest opinions of their new recipe versus their old recipe. i got peach, mixed fruit, and pineapple. she said the peach was a best seller but my favorite was the mixed fruit. it had strawberries, melon, blueberries and watermelon in it. the watermelon was delightful and so crisp still. the jars are very cute but i was a little put off by how loose the lid was on. maybe that's not fair, but it just reminded me of like, when people make jam and they don't boil the jars after how bacteria can get in there. but it's not like this dessert was sitting out unfrigerated. it was fresh. anyway, each jar costs 10.50 which is a lot for a couple of pieces of fruit in some jello, although it was very refreshing and tasty and i would return for a special occasion. read more

The place is located in the industrial area in a food hall. The staff T let us sample the various flavors so we can decide on what we wanted. I enjoyed the Mango the best, taro next then the matcha. The matcha is a bit on the sweeter side compared to the mango and taro. The pudding comes with crunchy coconut flakes. So yummy! Each jar is $9 and we devoured them all once we got home.
