    Ube Foam Coffee
    Karlee B.

Grabbed a ube foam Vietnamese coffee to go with my cinnamon roll from across the street at balboa island baking company and it was a beautiful pairing. Their vietamese coffee is strong and creamy and the ube foam added a nice layer of flavor and color. It's a large portion as well. Love this spot!

Very nice staff with some outdoor seating and stool seating inside. Street parking in the front and in the neighborhood in the back. Our server Onyx was very attentive and checked on us often. Filet Mignon Beef Pho: very clean and lean. Not heavy at all and pretty fresh. Decent portion size and plenty of vegetables. The food came out quickly and hot. Chili oil was not spicy but still tasty. The shop is small but it has a lot of spirit. I hope it does well.

I first heard about Golden Rabbit through my foodie grapevine--word on the street was that their pho broth was different from the same-old you'll find everywhere else. Curiosity won, so I packed up my family of five and made the 90-minute trek from Marina del Rey to Balboa Island. When we arrived, I expected a big, flashy spot. Instead, we found a cozy boba-style storefront with a few tables outside. Honestly, it reminded me of the street stalls I grew up with in Asia--unassuming, but full of promise. Every staff member was super nice. I felt extremely comfortable asking about the various dishes, and trusting their recommendations. They were so nice, i almost traded them for my rambunctious kids. The payoff? Totally worth the drive. With five of us, we sampled five dishes, and each one impressed. The secret here is Mysa, the founder. Her food stands out in the details. Yes, the pho broth really is different--and better. Like David Portnoy has his best cheese pizza quest, I'd say Mysa has redefined the pho test. It just hits... GOODer. Don't miss the filet mignon pho. My personal favorite was the chicken curry--a soupier vermicelli version that reminded me of the hearty soup dishes I grew up with in Indonesia. Comforting, flavorful, but not heavy. Easily a new go-to for me. Just pour the side of rice right into the soup bowl, and slurp away like a Viking. It's a must. We also loved the shrimp vermicelli, wok-seared beef rice, and crispy egg rolls--all excellent. If you come, bring at least three other people so you can order family style and taste a little of everything. And don't skip the brown sugar boba milk tea. My kids loved it so much they dragged me back 20 minutes later for a second round. According to them (aged 20 and 17, aka "boba experts"), it's a must. Bottom line: Golden Rabbit is absolutely worth the drive. I'll be back.

We just came in for a quick bite. So we ordered the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and a Vietnamese coffee. Both were fantastic!

My mom was super excited to try this place. Restaurant was clean, servers were really nice. We loved the filet pho a lot. The chicken pho had good flavor but the chicken was really tough. Veggies were fresh. Awesome location. Tea was also really good. Would come back.

The wok seared beef rice is incredible and quite delicious! The beef was delectable, cooked to tender perfection and those flavors of the sauce with seared veggies just went so well together. Would love to sit and eat this on the beach, but the vibes and service make you feel like you're right there. Nice calm and relaxed while eating some top quality food, you can't beat it! Thank you!!

    What was sold to me.

I ordered this via Uber Eats. As you can see, the food doesn't look like the picture they sold to me. The broth tastes like beef broth. Throwing it away. I'm sure some people can eat it but at this stage in my life quality is more important than money. They also packed a cold ice drink in the same bag as the hot pho broth. Why???

Great chicken broth pho. Broth was wonderful. Would come back here again in a minute. Huge serving I couldn't even finish. Chicken was so tender. Usually find it overcooked in pho but not here. This was a great surprise.

This is a great Balboa Island spot for very fresh well prepared, flavorful and reasonably priced Vietnamese dishes. The staff is great and attentive. The food is served promptly and hot. Portions are generous, you will not go away hungry or disappointed. This is a true island gem, worth seeking out!

Amazing. A delightful, authentic Vietnamese culinary journey located in the heart of Balboa Island. The service is top notch and menu inspired. Its sidewalk seating adds to the charm of the overall experience. Highly recommend their chicken curry.

We have had vermicelli all over the world and this was quite literally the best We have ever tasted. The home made sauce was amazing!! The place is small, but we sat outside. The peach tea was a bit sweet for us, but the vermicelli made up for it!

When we called for staff, it was as if they were actively avoiding us to be more attentive to the "white" tables. It took us calling for them 5 times before they finally had someone actually notice that we hadn't gotten any drinks and hadn't put in an order for food. Even when we finally got a waiter, he scrambled off before we were finished ordering our food. The food was good but no amount of good food is worth the disrespect my family felt. Very diverse menu but all is Hawaiian / Asian food. Ordered a few things sitting in the patio on opening at 11:00 a.m. since we didn't have any breakfast coming in from the valley. Macadamia nut crusted lobster roll= C Fish fresh but very weird sauce that I did not like and the macadamia nut on top just doesn't work with this. To each their own but not for me and an easy regret Coconut curry wok'd mussels -B Usually completely run away from anything Curry, and this was kind of ordered by mistake as I did not recall seeing anything curry-wise when I read the description but I must have missed it however it was a pleasant surprise and a very unique dish presented wonderfully. It goes great with a coconut white rice which our server brought. Pork ribs with half =dry rub and half= wet B+ (full rack) The ribs are fall off the bone and both the dry rub and wet with delicious barbecue sauce very tasty, but they came out lukewarm at best so they did not do a good job of reheating or else it would be close to an A. I didn't expect them to prepare a fresh rack of ribs for me at 11:00 a.m. on opening so I knew a reheat was coming but it tasted good. They were just not hot. The purple cabbage slaw is masked as Asian on the menu but its nothing but a heavily doused with vinegar cabbage to the point its mushy. I must say, ribs made a great reheat a couple days later, even after transportation/ long periods in the car. Crispy mahi mahi wok'd with veggies.B- Very creative dish but it was over sweetened to death to the point where it affected the crispiness of the fish pieces. Waay over-sauced, literally swamped in glaze. If it was dryer the fish chunks would be much crispier and it would taste a lot lighter and better. In a nutshell this restaurant is not for the risk adverse and has very unique pairings and sauces and preparation methods which you will either love hate or not be sure as I still am not, but it was good to try once. 3.5 Stars rounding up to four for the good service.

There's a lot going on in the bowl, but all the flavors and ingredients come together really well without overpowering each other. Most importantly, they don't skimp on the crab. You can actually taste it throughout, and it adds so much to the congee. I also really enjoyed the Vox Pear Salad. Refreshing, crisp, and made with noticeably good-quality ingredients, it's a nice contrast to some of the heavier dishes on the table. The Parmesan Chicken Wings were another strong choice. They have a satisfying crunch on the outside while staying packed with flavor, making them very easy to keep reaching for. Garlic lovers should definitely consider the Garlic Noodles Prawn because the garlic does not hide in the background here. The noodles carry plenty of that garlicky flavor, while the large prawns hold their own and taste great alongside them. The Saltado Fries Filet Mignon were more middle of the pack for me. The filet came out medium with a good chew and plenty of flavor, but the fries could have used more crispiness. They weren't soggy, just softer than I would have preferred. The Calamari had a nicely seasoned, crispy coating as well, though some pieces leaned a little dry. For drinks, the Earl Grey Iced Latte is a must. Sweet, fragrant, and full of Earl Grey flavor, this was easily my favorite drink of the meal. Both Lychee Lemonades were enjoyable too, with enough lychee coming through that it doesn't get buried underneath the lemonade. There is some pulp in the drink, which I personally don't mind, but pulp haters should be aware. As for the spicy version, don't let its appearance scare you. The added spices make it look much more intimidating than it tastes because the actual heat level barely changes. Service ended up being a bit hit or miss. Dishes came out quickly, so we never spent much time waiting around for the next thing to arrive. The smaller details weren't quite as consistent, though. Water got spilled on our table at one point, and things like straws and utensils were occasionally forgotten. Vox has an interesting setup with a bar, traditional indoor seating, and an outdoor dining area that feels like a converted mall entrance. We chose to sit outside, which was pleasant and gave us plenty of space, but being right next to the street means some dust comes with the territory. Overall, the setting is a little unconventional, but the stronger dishes, especially that congee, made the meal worth it.
