I went with a friend here to pick up steamed crabs. We ordered and they were ready when they said they would be, about 40 minutes later. They were $60 for a dozen large, pretty pricy but at least they're local. We ended up getting an extra crab for free which was nice. The crabs were a little on the smaller side then we would have expected but they were delicious (I also loved the Old Bay chips). Perhaps I am chasing a dream that will never be fulfilled, but I search long and hard for a pit beef sandwich that tastes just like the ones I ate from the roadside stands growing up. I've lived in Annapolis for two years, and have had Pit Boys on my list of places to try. I have no idea why it took two years, but I finally went there to pickup today's lunch. I had a pit beef sandwich on a kaiser roll (I wanted rye, but they do not have it -- bummer) and fries. They have a fixing's bar, so I added raw onion and mustard myself. I picked up my some mac-n-cheese for my boyfriend. I was home within 5 minutes to find that the fries were still hot, but the beef on my sandwich was only lukewarm. The pit beef sandwich was alright, but nothing to write home about. The fries were pretty good, they were regular fries cooked slightly crispy, which I actually like. My boyfriend said that the mac-n-cheese was OK, but while a lot of places try to do something to make theirs seem unique and home cooked, this mac-n-cheese tasted like it was right out of a box. We were both underwhelmed. Will I eat here again? Probably, as it is cheap, quick and one of the few places around here I can get pit beef. Will I be excited to eat here again? No. I'll only be eating there trying to recapture my childhood, which at this point I am convinced is impossible. read more

Cann here and got some ribs(small portion) and chicken wings(breaded) so I couldn't have those. So I said give me the chicken sandwich instead of the wings which I paid for. Got the most malnourished coir of chicken within a 20 mile radius. Won't be coming back to this place again. Clean though. read more

We went to their newer location on Forest Drive. I didn't really like the picnic tables inside because they didn't give me much back support. I ordered the MD crab soup. It was horrible. It tasted bad, and the only crab was a random crab claw. They literally just threw a crab claw in the soup, and they called it crab soup. My mother had the MD crab soup, and she hated it too. don't know what happened since they moved..went in ..ordered 1/2 dozen crabs medium.. they were out of large Waited patiently for 30 minutes ...should have taken a photo They were so small I don't even think they were legal...I looked down and said there is no way these are mediums...are they even legal..!!!! Stopped in for crabs and fried chicken last night. Warm smiles greeted us walked in :) My super picky husband said the fried chicken was the best he's ever had! Crabs were awesome! I had pit boys cater our wedding reception. The owner Marla was fantastic. Her food was delicious and the prices for everything were very reasonable. She made the entire process very simple and straight forward. Her management of the food service was intelligent and easy going. All of our guests had a great time, and our family was very pleased with pit boys. She made the stressful task of feeding a large group of people simple, easy, and stress free. Sat down around 7:15pm and received our dinners at 8pm it was very slow. Just ordered two sandwiches and their hush puppies. The beef sandwich special was very jerky like and the burger not really a fresh burger more less a patty with no substance. I've tried better places that serve BBQ out there in annapolis was hoping for a home run here! read more

I would love to see this Mom & Pop BBQ place thrive so I'll offer some critique as a recent customer. 1) Consider ditching the waiter service for folks ordering BBQ. I spent $40 (including tip) for 2 pit beef sandwiches, 2 drinks, and 2 sides. Fast casual style dining will help cut down on the costs for the consumer. 2)Don't hide the BBQ sauce behind the counter. Put it on the tables in bottles. Our waitress had to keep bringing out little rations of sauce. I'm not sure if I was being charged for them or not. 3) The pit beef was "meh". It didn't have much flavor and it was cold and boring. Throw one of your smokers out front so people see that you are serving authentic Homemade BBQ. read more

Ok. I haven't eaten my take out food yet so this review is just for service. I took the food home , they did not give me the crabs I ordered at all and I was missing a side dish. When I returned, no one seemed even slightly bothered that they charged me for crabs I didn't even get or that the rest of the order was wrong. Mistakes happen but I think it should matter to a business when a customer has to return and wait to get what they paid for. read more

Terrible. Service and food. We just moved to the area and I gave them two chances. Took about 40 minutes to get our food and there were only two other parties there. Scallops came out cold, we told the waitress and she just said "sorry". How can you screw up mashed potatoes? They figured that one out. Next visit- called for take out lunch and was put on eternal old. Called back 5 times and it went to voicemail...at 11:45 am. When I finally got through, I was given incorrect information about the menu and was charged incorrectly. I even called back to ask/complain and was again told "sorry". Heard this place was good for crabs so we tried them. Bought a bushel for a family party. They were amazing! We got the large and they were full of meat. Waited a couple of weeks after the opening to give it a try. The inside was spartan, very surprising because from the outside it looks so cozy. The serving of pit beef on a roll was generous to say the least, but tasted bland with no real hint of being cooked over coals or in a smoker. Sides were okay but seemed institutional, and the BBQ sauce was either store bought or homemade using ketchup. The ordering process is chaotic, but the workers were very nice. was hesitant on patronizing this establishment due to the yelp reviews however I used a groupon so it wouldnt be such a hit to my pockets. I tried the brisket first which is flavorful and tender, the pit beef was dry and tasteless and had been cooked too long. All atop an extremely soft roll I would def get again. I next tried the hush puppies which were your typical hush puppies that needed more corn, possibly some cream corn and sugar, would not get again. The potato salad was extremely fresh, potatoes a little too hard for my liking and not enough celery, onion, or seasoning...I had to drench it with salt and pepper. Lastly my steamed shrimp which were a nice large size but no old bay, come on we're in MD. All in all I would not come back although the food is reasonable and big portions. read more

Order the brisket sandwich, ask if it was moist and was told very moist. Got my sandwich first the brisket was cut with the grain not across the grain. Big No No makes it very tough, also the meat was dry as a bone. When I said something to the 3 people behind the counter about the the issues, all I got was sorry. Nothing about can we replace the sandwich. I was only able to eat a few bites, the rest went in the trash can. The old bay potato chips we're soggy and had about a half inch of old bay on them, trashed them too. So for a place that calls themselves The Pit Boys they sure don't know had to do it. If you could get the Congressional Medal of Honor for onion rings, this place would get called back for new one every year. They don't end up with a mouthful of onion and then empty batter like so many other places and go so well with their superb pit beef. Bravo! read more

Overall great first experience! We had delicious freshly made fried pickles that was their app special for the day. The BBQ was very good. This is a pretty great place when their staff isn't playing the guessing game, they don't know what they have and they don't go check. Another staff member had to check one of the others. I wish Annapolis had a different crab place to get crabs to go. Anyone have any suggestions? I placed an order for grabs but I called and asked for shrimp to be added she asked how much and didn't check she randomly said they don't have any, I questioned it and hung up my. My bf picked up my crabs and didn't know I canceled the shrimp Order and put one in when the other staff said yes we have shrimp what are you talking about. I really wanted to like the food here. I went twice and tried two different entrees, plus bites of the others I went with. Their chicken is super dry, even with tons of BBQ sauce. Their pulled pork was amazing. I had a special fish sandwich (maybe cod? I can't remember) and it was nothing special. I love potato salad but this stuff was not good- it was super boring. I did love their Mac and cheese (which is simple but definitely not a box mixture). My friend enjoyed their cole slaw- it was dryer than normal, which she loved. In general if I were to go back I would order the pulled pork and Mac and cheese. Anything else was pretty neutral or bad. There are better BBQ places in this area though, so I'm pretty sure I will end my visits after two. read more

We had carry out sandwiches and a kids meal. My ham sandwich was great. It had so much meat that I had to take a bunch off. My husband's turkey sandwich, on the other hand, had about a quarter of the amount of meat and was quite sad. Also, neither sandwich came with the promised chips and pickle. The chicken tenders in the kids meal were clearly homemade. All white meat, but ours were over fried and tasted a bit burnt. We also got Mac and cheese. It tasted good but had the grainy texture that happens when you don't know how to make a cheese sauce. Also we didn't receive the drink that was supposed to come with the kids meal. So overall, we were missing chips, pickles, and a drink. The food we did receive was mediocre(except the ham sandwich) and overpriced. read more

Pit Boys is one of my favorite places for crabs when I am in Annapolis. They have never disappointed. The crabs were heavy and big. The crab dip is amazing! The atmosphere is very casual, always a game on the TV or country music playing from the speakers. And unlike other crab restaurants in Annapolis, there isn't a 2 1/2 hour wait! You can eat inside or outside on their patio. The kids can play cornhole! read more
