We tried this place for lunch on a Wednesday since our daughter and son-in -law highly recommended it. We were simply amazed. We had the beef brisket and meatloaf sandwiches. FANTASTIC. Very fresh and they tasted great. The onion rings were greatly good along with excellent cole slaw and collard greens. All very fresh, tasty and in perfect sized portions. The service was also pretty fast but we were here doing a slow period. I assume on weekends when this place is busy you might wait a while. The minor drawbacks are: 1. The inside dining area is very small so this place must get crowded during busy periods. The outdoor seating area is covered but sort of lame and not very inviting. We dined inside which only seats about 20 or more. It wouldn't be comfortable in 90° plus weather outside 2. They have a gravel parking lot which is kind of awkward. It's also very difficult and dangerous making a left turn out of this place onto Central Avenue. Regardless, we will definitely be going back here because the food is just fantastic. If you have an alternative child i really don't recommend coming here, they will be treated worse then a pedophile actively hitting on children, maybe even worse then someone waving around a conservative flag. If i was to stick a slim jim and start chewing on leather i would. Chad's is one of the best kept secrets, that I'm about to share. The food is lip smacking good! The customer service is friendly down home, 'come on in, pull up a seat, and have a drink with us', type of welcome. I had the beef brisket sandwich with cube beef and slaw on top. Jalapeño wings sweet and sticky, not hot at all, so all can enjoy. Mac n cheese is top notch, creamy and multi-layered with a variety of cheeses. Not bad, but the pulled pork leaned too much on the sause and I couldn't taste any smoke on the pork. My wife had a BLT; it was hard pressed to find the bacon l. I have been here several times now and I like it better and better each time. The owner, the staff, the menu, the specials.... the drinks! The bar is a sleeper here. They make great drinks and have a nice beer selection. I will usually get one of the wing specials. I like the ones that come in a spicy verde sauce (angie's wings?). Excellent. I came here with my family, and order the 96 dollar family meal that included: 1 Full Rack of Baby Back Ribs 1 Whole Grilled Chicken (halved) 1lb. Pulled Pork (choose sauce) 4 Kielbasa links 3 Medium 16 oz. sides 4 Pieces Cornbread The Ribs: While tender the ribs didn't have much taste outside of the sauce. I could see the seasoning on the ribs, but was somehow still pretty bland. I was looking for a smoky element that just wasn't there for a meat the was cooked slow and low. Reminded me of oven cooked ribs. The Chicken: While it had a great crunchy texture on the skin, the chicken was bland and dry. We eventually discarded white white meat at home. The chicken felt like it was over cooked and then reheated, even the dark meat which usually can handle the extra cook time. The Pulled Pork: (Carolina style) was a toss up, you either like the vinegar based sauce that it comes in or you don't. It wasn't my favorite. I actually would've preferred just to try the meat without the sauce, just to see what the meat was actually hittin on, but I chose what I chose. To me it had a thicker pickling brine type of texture and taste that covered any/all of the actually pork taste that could've been had. The Collard Greens: The collard greens are absolutely invited to the cookout. If you see my picture of them, they taste as good as they look. No fancy frills, just good ol down to business greens. The Mac & Cheese: I felt there was room for improvement, but they weren't bad. A lot of bad mac & cheese is stiff with no flavor, or just melted velveeta over noodles, but the texture of these were spot on, maybe just a little more salt and pepper. Fries & Crazy Sauce: The fries were really good and paired perfectly with the sauce. The Kielbasa: Nope, i'm all for home made sausage, but around here the word Keilbasa has a very specific meaning, unlike the word which I guess translated in polish, just means "sausage". Whatever the case maybe, this sausage was bland, and again no smoke flavor. The Corn Bread: Dense AF, but good. I have to say that our first time here, Chads was actually closed for a yearly vacation that they take (there was a a note on the door). My wife and I really had high hopes for this spot, and so thats why we ended up back here in the first place. We were looking for the best bang for our buck and went the family meal route, but i think we may have had a better experience had we just ordered the sandwiches & wings, which looked fantastic coming out of the kitchen. This is our fourth and last time coming here. We have done carryout the last few times and what I noticed is that when I hit no tip or when I don't add a tip on the receipt I get a stale look from the female working there. I don't tip for Carryout. Yes I'm spending a lot of money but I feel that for Carryout. All you're doing is packing my food you're not bringing it to me I'm coming to the counter and getting it and carrying it out myself.. This last time was the worst we ordered $85 worth of food. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich they're supposed to give you coleslaw. The container was half full. We ordered sweet potato fries. It was half full. I asked for barbecue on the side of our ribs the family meal we got no barbecue sauce at all and we asked for bread pudding because we thought it said bread pudding, and the guy we told him we went to ice cream with our bread pudding and he was like yeah we don't serve ice cream with the bread pudding and we get home to see banana pudding, so maybe it was a mistake with communication and he wasn't paying attention to us saying bread pudding so many times , but after today our gut is just telling us we don't need to come back here. This business is not for us. The Ribs are absolutely delicious I would have rather eaten them with BBQ sauce. The corn bread is huge and loafy and dense. You gotta load with with butter to eat it without choking. The chicken is also good as well as the pulled pork sandwich, just disappointed we didn't get much Cole slaw. My review is on my experience the BBQ is why we came so many times. The greens are also good, Mac and cheese seems old it's hard. Refer to the pictures. I went to Chad's the first time today and I will be going back for sure. I had a Caroline BBQ sandwich, with slaw and pickles, along with a side of greens. I wanted to love Chad's but was left disappointed. The staff was friendly but I had to ask for my drinks 3 times. We ordered the brisket sandwich and ribs. The brisket was served on a cold roll with way too much sauce and cubed brisket. The brisket itself looked and tasty like something you would get in a cafeteria. The ribs looked gorgeous until you took a bite. They were way over cooked and very dry and bland. The only flavor at all came from the bbq sauce which was just poured on top. We went to Chad's again after a couple of years. We were pleased with our food until... we all got sick. Right after I ate my smoked turkey sandwich, I began to feel nauseous shortly after. I thought it must be something else so I didn't think much of it. 2 hours later my kid who got their Mac and cheese said he feels nauseous and needs to throw up. He went to sleep pretty quickly. Overnight my other kid who had their Mac cheese and fries threw up on our bed. The next day my husband who had BBQ brisket said he felt nauseous. It has to be this restaurant. We all got different food except for the kids. It must be 1- soiled food? 2- unsanitary environment? 3- what else can it be? We came here twice. And that's the last time. :( read more

Well I have to say sometimes you find a place that has great food, sometimes you find a place that has great ambience, sometimes you find a place that has a great location. Chad is one of those rare places that has good food, a great ambience, and it is in a good location off the beaten path. I like the consistency of the food, and especially the mom and pop feel of the restaurant. Every time I've gone in I've been greeted as soon as the door opened and always explained the menu and the specials of the day. Chads type of barbecue may not be for everyone, I seem to enjoy it each time I eat it. It's just a different style not quite Texas, not quite Kansas City, not quite Memphis. It's Maryland BBQ. Barbeque (real honest to goodness smoked meat) is in very short supply in the Annapolis area. Years ago I found great bbq at Rusty's Food Truck in Crofton but he is long gone now. My husband is in serious depravation and mourning for the wonderful food he used to get in the South. So, it was with rather jaundiced expectations that we ventured into Chad's now that we are in this area again. So, blow me away with a feather but as soon as my husband started tucking in to our assortment of choices I saw a very unfamiliar grin start to appear on his face and grow wider with each bite. Sure enough, he was a very happy camper! We proclaimed everything good: pulled pork, pastrami sandwich, ribs, cole slaw, onion rings. The house made lemonade was very good too with just the right combination of sweet and tangy. The young man at the counter was super helpful and friendly. The food came out quickly despite a full house of patrons. Our only complaint is the ambiance which is pretty bad. The place is loud and freezing. Every time one of the 2 doors opened we got a gust of frigid wind. We ate with our winter coats on and were still cold. We will hold off going back until warm weather allows us to eat outside...but go back we certainly will!! read more

We had wings, Alabama chicken with incredibly delish white sauce (new to us), and ribs. The lemonade was sweetened with simple syrup. How also incredibly delish and special the simple (sugar) syrup makes that otherwise ordinary beverage. We ate at the high top table for four in the enclosed porch. This is an absolutely fresh and delicious small BBQ spot. Wow I am so impressed. My parents love this place, they got every few weeks lately but it was my first time. They are only offering carry out which I think is safe and I appreciate that, plus they have a drive through which is awesome for a restaurant! I ordered the Smoked Burger and fries with crazy sauce. The burger: SO perfectly cooked and well seasoned, arugula and tomato came on the side. I added cheese and underneath they put caramelized onions--delicious. They also gave me a side of garlic aioli which tied it all together perfectly. Everything tasted so fresh. The fries were so crispy even after my 30 min drive home. My wife is from the Annapolis area and swears by this BBQ, there may be a little bias, considering that she knows a couple of the employees there, but we decided to make the half-hour trip to Edgewater and pick up some BBQ. It is best to order in advance as it is now a drive-thru, no delivery. Ordering was easy, the menu can be found on their website as well as their Facebook page. The drive-thru process was easy as well as you had just pulled up to a spot where one staff person will greet you, just let them know your name and they will have it bagged up and ready to go. Once we got home, we poured out our platters which contained pulled pork, where you have a quick taste of vinegar with each bite (mmmm), the ribs were melting off the bone and the kielbasa, still snapping, which is a sign of a great sausage. I was half-expecting 2 small slices of bagged white bread, it was not, they gave you a generous slice of baked white bread which I was glad to partake. My take, if you're in the Annapolis area and you don't know about this place, what is holding you up? If you're in the surrounding area and you feel up to taking a small road trip for takeout, then go for it. Best 'cue in Maryland. read more

I FINALLY got to visit my buddy's restaurant, Chad's BBQ, after a great hike along the Bay @ Beverly-Triton Beach Park! If you are anywhere near Edgewater (just south of Annapolis) stop in to Chad's. The Honey-Jalapeño WINGS AND Smoked Burger were killer! The Mac n Cheese was perfectly prepared with a nice sweetness! I will attest that the wings were some of the best I have ever had. They rival our own wings at Bartenders! Do to COVID safety & social distancing restrictions they currently have picnic tables outside & limited patio seating. They are also operating a dynamite Drive-Thru window that Chad built as soon as restrictions were announced. It is a smooth operation. All the staff were masked and gloved. This drive thru is perfect for picking up Game Day gnosh like platters of Wings and BBQ! See the catering menu on their website. I drove 40 min to eat here as I have read reviews and did not want chain BBQ. I have been all over the US on BBQ tours (Nashville, Atlanta, San Antonio, Austin, Little Rock, Memphis, etc) and have to say this is the most unique experience I have had and not in a good way. I have NEVER paid $6 for a tiny tub of mac and cheese which was quite dry. The picture actually makes it look bigger as the container is like 2 inches tall. The meat loaf had some type of yellow sauce on it, never experienced that before and made it taste a bit tangy. The ribs were pretty good. Another odd thing after paying $46 for all this food in the picture they did not include silverware or BBQ sauce! What the heck! I didn't think I had to ask for that, it should come in a tiny container or something on the side. The food did taste better the next day after reheating. I gave 2 stars because the staff was extremely friendly and order was ready prompt on time and experience was easy. I LOVE supporting local businesses and non chain places. The parking was a bit confusing as I am from Georgia and its not clearly marked where to enter. I see a sign for drive thru but a bunch of cones in a odd pattern didn't clearly tell me where to enter. Not a big deal but if this is the norm it might be nice to offer silverware or bbq sauce.
