Great menu with lots of delicious options. Everything we ordered was so good. The space was bright and lively.

This is yet another one of those places that I have been cruising bye for years never having the opportunity to stop. Passing by I often see patrons dining on the umbrella lined porch as well as tables down the adjacent sidewalk. It was raining the night we were there so we dined inside in the modern farmhouse style dining area. We started with the fried calamari appetizer. Large portion size, tasty batter lightly topped with sliced hot peppers served with a side of delicious marinara sauce for dipping. Very good. I ordered the fish tacos for my main course. They really didn't taste like any kind of fish tacos I have ever had before. The fish had a heavy batter in it. Making them taste more like fish and chips than fish tacos. Even so, I enjoyed them. My wife had a burger with sautéed onions with home style French fries whiz she enjoyed as well. The service was great. It was a great experience. I look forward to visiting Hapgoods again for breakfast or brunch. read more

We had a lovely brunch eating off the breakfast menu. If you can't get a table, do not fret, things turn over pretty quickly and it's not a long wait - totally worth the trip. The ambience is lovely and the staff were attentive and friendly. If you can grab an outdoor table, go for it! read more

Frankly, the food here is hit-or-miss. You're guaranteed to eat breakfast in a peaceful location. But you might not get flavor, and you might not be served promptly. A guest and I visited on Saturday around 10 AM. We sat promptly, which was nice, but we waited a long time for our waiter to arrive. And that's not fun when you're hungry. We went with a spinach egg white omelet, and a Kitchen Sink omelet. I had the latter and I got flavor: jalapeños, black beans, tomatoes, and nicely, slightly overdone eggs. It tasted how it sounds. My guest thought the home fries were a bit lacking in flavor; I felt like their food needed salt. It would be a good option if not for the inconsistency. There are plenty of tables. But on other visits I've been flatly unimpressed, which is too bad. read more

Unfortunately Hapgoods was not that good. I ordered a veggie omelette and my husband went with the eggs benedict. Both of our dishes tasted like a hamburger and were likely made on a dirty grill. My omelette was not cheesey or held together well, just loose pieces of veggie stuffed in an egg. And the potatoes that came as a side were lacking flavor. The vibe is super cozy with lots of seating plus couches and a fireplace. Service was also great -- very quick and friendly. And I also really enjoyed my iced coffee. Unfortunately the food was disappointing, so I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Came on a Sunday around 1. We thought it would be a little slower at that point but it was still packed. We didn't get a table fairly quickly though. It's best to try here off hours. Ambience is cute. Service was good. For food I ordered the avocado toast with a side salad and my friend got a turkey wrap. We decided to share the fried French toast as well. I thought the avocado toast was great. I'd probably get the potatoes instead of salad next time but I was trying to be healthier. The fried French toast was just ok. I'm not a huge fan of Nutella or hazelnut so this could be why I didn't think it was amazing. I would definitely come back to try other things. read more

First time here, and really enjoyed it. We went early on a weekday so seating wasn't an issue. Lots of tables, a center island with seating and couches in front of a gas fireplace. Just visited during the holidays and it was outstanding!! The chicken parm was phenomenal and my wife had a pork chop salad which was huge and she finished the whole thing!! The restaurant was spotless and our waiter was very friendly and accommodating! When we visit again we will be back if not again before we leave, haha!!- well we got back tonight, not such a good visit?! My steak was cooked incorrectly and my potatoes were cold! They served my grandson an order of chicken fingers, six??? Just six large chicken fingers for a six year old. I digress, the ultimate thing that insults me is when I drop a hefty price for five diners and the waitress doesn't have the professional courtesy of advising me that gratuity was included in my bill. Honesty is a pet peeve of mine! Well after the first visit I was ecstatic but after this one I doubt I'll search this place out on my next visit!! Consistency is the key to success. The refurbished Hapgood building is over a hundred years old. The restaurant is consructed in 1/2 timber house design and lies right on Midvale road. There is free street parking , as well as, a free parking lot 50 feet from the building. The interior exudes a warm comfortable ambiance complete with fireplace, clean hardwood floors and tables, couches and chairs.. I have sat by the fireplace and worked on the New York Times crossword puzzle. The waiting area is furnished like a living room parlor. It is simply a wonderful way to start your morning sipping coffee and checking your Inbox. Water is served in a Mason jar while coffee is served in a small mug with a tiny handle. The regular coffee was $3.50. A flavored coffee, hazelnut, vanilla or caramel was $3.75. Omelets run $12-$14. No refills were offered on the coffee. The menu is extensive with some unique items not found in franchise breakfast options. I enjoyed the Taylor Ham, egg and cheese sandwich at $8. The egg did not run all over the place when cut and was hardy and tasty. The serving staff was professional ,albeit, very young. M waiter was efficient without being in your face, They have outdoor seating when the weather is cooperative. The train station into New York is a short convenient walk down the street. read more

What a great place! Wonderfully quaint setting - feels like you're walking into an old inn/house that was converted to a restaurant. Service was exceptional and matched by the food! We found Hapgoods on Yelp while in town for business. Breakfast was so good the first day that we came back on day two! I had the eggs Benedict on day 1 and my wife had the California omelette. Both were outstanding. Their coffee is also very good. Day 2: I had the Kitchen Sink omelette and my wife had the fried French toast (that right - FRIED). While working in the Parsippany area today, me and a few coworkers were looking for a good spot for lunch. A friend had previously recommended Hapgood's, and the Yelp reviews were excellent. We took the short drive to Mountain Lakes and really enjoyed our meal here! Mountain Lakes is a very cool town and Hapgood's has that laid back country feel to it. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxing and the staff helpful and friendly. I went with the pastrami sandwich which was a special. The sandwich was very good and came with either a salad or fries. Prices here are very reasonable as well. If you're in the area, give it a shot! read more

Since our first time trying I have been completely sold by the fresh made food, amazing service, and overall wide selection of options. Our new favorite local place! We live up in Kinnelon and there's not much of anything by the way of cute sit-down spots with any kind of ambiance - but Hapgoods fills the gap! We've come here several times for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and loved pretty much everything we've ordered. Fave breakfast items: cappuccino, hot chocolate, California eggs benedict, pancakes, chicken and waffles. Fave lunch item: black and blue burger with fries Fave dinner items: short ribs, surf & turf (when they have it as a special) The menus are huge so there's lots to choose from and a lot more we still need to try. Service is super friendly even though it seems like the servers can get overwhelmed at times. They can get super busy at times and they seem short-staffed - you'll see the staff running around back and forth inside and outside. It's an organized chaos and they pull it off well given the amount of tables vs amount of staff they have. But we come here for a relaxing meal and aren't in a rush so it's no big deal. Think more euro-style dining and you'll be fine. Inside is super cute but we love sitting outside. Great vibe and food all around. BOYB too! No reservations (first-come first-serve). read more

My fiancée and I randomly landed on this spot when googling brunch spots near us and it was well worth the 40 minute drive. We were delightfully surprised when we pulled up and saw how cute it was. They have multiple items on the menu that everyone can enjoy and the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Well you know how an inexpensive meal can suddenly become expensive if it's not good or inedible. Even a 3$ coffee that's bad can make you feel like you just threw away 3$ if the place you bought it from doesn't make it right. Well, we went out to this place. We were a table of 9. So, gratuity is automatically added to the bill. I asked for calamari and steak au poivre. Others had short ribs and my wife had beef stroganoff. My thoughts on the calamari. I was wondering if the Goodyear rubber company supplied the calamari. It was awful. When the waitress took my plate she asked if I was done or if I wanted to continue "nibbling" on it. I said no thank you, it's awful. She didn't say anything and took my plate. The "steak au poivre" was simply a cheesesteak sandwich without the cheese. It was unremarkable. It occurred to me that there is no incentive to look into why the appetizer was inedible BECAUSE the gratuity is automatically added onto the bill. I tried my wife's beef stroganoff. It tasted like something out of a can or something from the frozen food isle at your local supermarket. And not inexpensive at $25.00. I am not going to get into the rest. It simply was not great food. Should it have been. Maybe. Maybe it was an off night. It's a nice establishment so a 4/5 for that. And the owner is expanding I was told. Hence the wooden plank nailed to the wall. I would have painted it the same colour as the wall as to make it blend in. But that's just me. read more

3.5 stars. I got the western omelet without cheddar cheese. It was very strange because they put the ingredients outside of the omelet... so it was a plain egg omelet, and when you lifted the top half of the folded omelet, all of the ham onions and bell peppers were just sitting there. I've never had an omelet where the ingredients weren't cooked inside of it. The seasoning on the home fries was flavorful, but the potatoes were missing that crisp factor. read more

Love Hapgoods. There are so few little options like this, it really stands out. We love that they have outdoor seating and have been lucky enough to never have to wait for a table when coming for breakfast. I am sure this place is busier on weekends, but we primarily keep this as a weekday breakfast date spot for ourselves. Their coffee is good, the food portions are just right - recently I got the steak and eggs and my steak was cooked so perfectly. The pricing was also perfect. It runs a little more expensive than local diners but the food is ten times better. The portions are generous without being over the top, so you have a good chance of finishing your meal but not being left peckish within an hour. We came for lunch a few weeks ago for the first time and I got the Truffle Burger. It was so juicy, I made a mess - I had to wash my shirt when we got home but who can complain about a burger that juicy and flavorful?! The brie was a nice touch and they cooked my burger perfectly medium rare. The burger was a little bit pricy considering the portion of fries that comes with it is on the small side, but again, I think the quality of the food really speaks here. I don't mind paying $17 for a fantastic truggle burger even if the side is a bit smaller than I am used to, because it's worth the money. Oh! And, they have good coffee and offer iced. read more

The server is super friendly although our food came out messed up but she quickly corrected it. We ordered the soup, the shrimp wrap, pancakes with a side of eggs over hard, and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were ok, it needed salt and I asked for it with no sausage and it came out with sausage anyway. The shrimp wrap was really good, the fries were amazing and the lettuce had a nice crunch while the tortilla was warm. The pancakes were ok. The eggs didn't come out originally and when they did come they were cooked over medium instead of over hard. Overall, the visit was ok. I wouldn't rush back here. read more
