Love this brunch place. For a span of several months last year, we had a recurring pattern where we would eat at Willow and Whisk, and while seated at our table enjoying our amazing food, we would make our next reservation to dine again at Willow and Whisk two months later. (Reservations are not that easy to make last minute.) The restaurant is big and open but always busy. Kids get wax craft sticks to play with and bend into cool shapes, which I find very unique and cool. I feel like there is a difference between a diner and a true brunch place. A diner, of which there are numerous in New Jersey, is a establishment that churns out inexpensive, and potentially excellent, but very standard breakfast food - omelettes, pancakes, benedicts and the like. A true brunch place, on the other hand, offers things like lemon ricotta pancakes, cacio e pepe scrambles, mushroom thyme omelettes and shakshuka. Willow & Whisk is that kind of brunch place, and which is rare in New Jersey. The food options are varied, very tasty, and with good portion sizes. We came here for brunch and overall had a good experience. The restaurant is on a corner with large windows, so there's plenty of natural light, making it a really nice place to relax or catch up with friends. The highlight was definitely the Stuffed French Toast. It looked beautiful, and I expected it to be overly sweet, but it was surprisingly well balanced. The toast was soft with a slightly crispy exterior, and the cream cheese filling paired really well with the strawberry compote. We also ordered the BLT+. The smoked bacon was delicious, but the focaccia was a little too thin and hard, making it harder to eat than I expected. The house-made sausage was good, just not particularly memorable. As for the coffee, it was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. The latte wasn't very smooth, and the cold brew had a slight off taste. They were both drinkable, just not something I'd order again. Overall, I'd recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere, especially if you're interested in the French toast. I really want to love this place but it's always disappointed me. It's beautiful and the food is tasty but trying it again today was a bit of a last straw for me. I asked if I could do 2% milk with my latte at 8am with only 1 other table in the restaurant. Waitress told me it's whole or skim. I asked if she could mix them, half and half. She said it takes too long for the bartenders... I said "there's 2 people here, mind if you make an exception?" To which she followed up with "no, it's a rule." Okay fine... I'll settle for my $7 latte I guess. Following that, I ordered the mushroom thyme omelette, the second bite I took had a full on hard stick from the thyme I almost choked on (not chewy, hard - see pictures). I decided to let it slide, these things happen with fresh herbs. 2 more bites in, another massive stem stick jabbed me. If I had given my daughter either of those bites, it could have been scary. I sent it back. I love their coffee, and the shukshukka (botching the spelling). But for how much you pay, their service is inconsistent and these errors are painful (literally). I don't see what all the hype is over this place. Are people obsessed because there's a fake tree in the dining area? The food is nothing but average, not impressive. A glass of orange juice is overpriced, fries were dry. My maple harvest latte was sweet, not any hint of maple. I'm convinced that people have just become so accustomed to average food that they don't know better. You need a reservation on the weekends, which is booked 2 months out, unless you get lucky with a cancelation. Service is OK, but again just average, especially when they are very busy! Ambiance is hit or miss, depending on the day/time you go. When I dined here, 2 parents chose to ignore their screaming/crying baby so they could finish their own food while talking to themselves. But it is located in a big plaza with a large parking lot so I like to shop at Marshalls while waiting for my table. The restaurant itself is very cute for brunch or lunch. They have a lot of syrup for your coffee so I typically get a lavender latte. For food, i hiiiighly recommend the mini brioche french toast. It is SO good and great for sharing. Thought this place was good by the reviews but when I went I saw everyone taking the food to go and i knew something was wrong. We got the pancakes and french toast and omelette and every one of them was either too sweet too greasy or too bland. The french toast was SO GREASY the first bite was actually so gross...I felt like hurling already and it was way way too sweet. The pancake was so dry and the omelette was so bland and felt like egg shells were inside. We got the freshly squeezed orange juice and that was not tangy at all it was very bland and felt like they took an old orange and juiced it. The restaurant is beautiful with a big willow tree with lights in the middle and the staff was super helpful and attentive. The food was absolutely incredible as well. I returned to Willow & Whisk recently and had another nice experience. We had tried to move up our reservation, because we were able to make it there earlier than initially planned, but we were told that we would need to wait 30-40 minutes to be seated. Thankfully, it wound up being about half of that amount of time. After we were seated, we enjoyed friendly service throughout our brunch. Since I enjoyed my taste of the Golden Milk Latte last time, I ordered my own mug on this trip. I loved that the restaurant used actual tea, rather than a pre-made mix, and that it also included a gingery kick. For my dish, I went with the Egg White Omelet with sautéed spinach and slow-roasted tomatoes. I asked for the kitchen to omit the feta and add cremini mushrooms. The omelet was well-cooked and not runny, and the vegetables were fresh. However, the eggs had no seasoning and would have greatly benefitted from even a dash of salt and pepper. The accompanying multi-grain toast was good, though. We also got an order of the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes to share, as we had last time. The cakes were fluffy and flavorful and topped with lemon curd, fresh blueberries, and powdered sugar. They were simply divine! Overall, Willow and Whisk's modern, buzzy atmosphere and gracious service led to another positive meal. However, it seemed like many of the regular and seasonal menu items were hit-or-miss, but once you found your preferred bite, you should probably sticking with it. read more

I recommend having a reservation or coming a bit earlier than you plan to eat because there might be a wait; it was pretty busy during peak brunch hours. The food was really good. We got two types of pancakes, an omelette, and a salad (not pictured) to share among the 4 of us. We had a couple bites of pancake left over and finished everything else. I wanna come back to try some other menu items because so many things sounded good and we had a hard time choosing. One area of improvement: I think the drinks could use some work. My passionfruit jasmine palmer didn't really taste like passionfruit (or jasmine for that matter lol) and the strawberry blood orange pitcher lacked strawberry flavor. This is probably my favorite brunch spot in Bergen County, with my biggest criticism being how difficult it is to get a reservation. You can walk in and hope to get lucky, but most of the time you'll probably find yourself with a long wait time. I've never not seen the place packed. Solid food, don't think I've ever had a bad food item here. My favorite is the California breakfast bowl and the Lemon Ricotta poppers. Over the course of several visits, we've tried several items and the quality has always been top notch. Their coffee similarly is also quite good, you can tell the quality is there. The place is also decently kid-friendly so if you have little ones, they will do fine here and they should like most of the breakfast items (my daughter loves the pancakes). It is a bit pricy, but again what isn't in this part of town? I'd come more often if it was easier to snag a table. read more

My wife and I have been heading to a nearby farmers market, poultry store, and coffee shop over the past several weekends. This week we decided to start with breakfast at Willow and Whisk. The restaurant is clean, bright, modern and trendy. We lucked into a table immediately during prime brunch time on a Saturday. (Around 10:45) Our waiter Mark was excellent, genuinely friendly and certainly knowledgeable about the menu. My wife had an excellent omelette with bacon onion jam and avocado filling, plus a side of patatas bravas. (Slight upcharge to turn the standard potatoes into patatas bravas was totally worth it) I went with the smoked salmon Benedict and truly loved it. Eggs were poached perfectly and the smoked salmon was the perfect accompaniment. Wish I gave my potatoes the "patatas bravas" upgrade but the standard potatoes are still excellent. The first time with the group of 4, we came relatively early in the morning, so were seated right away. The second time with my boyfriend, there was approximately a 30-minute wait, but was completely reasonable, The interior is beautiful and very nicely decorated! When I came with the group of 4, we ordered the french toast bites to share and for drinks, we got the cold brew, campfire s'mores latte, matcha latte, and white chocolate frappe. The drinks came in the can-shaped glasses and all looked delicious! For food, we got the avocado toast, so cal breakfast bowl, and truffle chicken salad sandwich. The french toast bites were amazing and were topped with sliced bananas and strawberries. I would definitely recommend ordering this to share! We made reservations here which were about 2 months out for 4 on a weekend. There's some outdoor seating. We waited close to the same amount of time as long as people that came in without reservations waited. Everything was cute and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly. We enjoyed all of our food. The So Cal was the best plate we really liked the tomato aioli on it. The pancakes were good but the cinnamon swirl was a little overwhelmingly sweet, probably would go with plain next time.
