We tried their brunch over Memorial Day weekend, and wow, the place was packed! We had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. As the name suggests, it's a barn-themed, locally owned restaurant that is well known for its brunch. We were seated on one side of the restaurant where the walls were covered with rustic tin signs, famous sayings, and funny quotes. The whole atmosphere felt like stepping into a cozy countryside diner from the 1980s. After settling in, we ordered: * Thick French Toast - Delicious and very filling. * Lamb Gyro Omelette - Easily the star of the meal. A solid 5/5. It came with pita bread on the side and a thick, crispy hash brown. * Tuna Sandwich - Nothing extraordinary, just a decent tuna sandwich. * Coffee The food was excellent, and the overall Memorial Day brunch experience was wonderful. When I stopped by here with my top-tier chums, we initially speculated on why this place is so popular (parking was a little crazy and there were small lines of people waiting to sit down throughout our meal). The obvious theories were that it was either really good or the only game in town. Based on our experience, it's a little from Column A, a little from Column B. We came for brunch this past Saturday around 11:30am. None of us had been here before, but it was roughly a "meet in the middle" type of situation conveniently located off of 202. Although all of the nearby parking spots in this strip mall were occupied, it's a big enough parking area that it wasn't difficult to locate a spot further away closer to the road. Little annoying, but it is what it is and could have been worse. Inside was similar - part of it for sure was due to our timing, but it was crowded and a bit chaotic. I went in first to secure seating, and we lucked out with a table near the door immediately. The biggest knock on Red Barn is that it's just not that comfortable, at least in that seating section by the counter. It's picnic tables for the most part with no seat backing, and you are RIGHT up against your neighbors - I bumped into the back of the guy behind me several times. The obvious solution is both normal tables/seats and/or removing one of the picnic tables to give everyone a little more breathing room. Honestly, it reminded me of the worst parts of NYC restaurants, where they basically jam in as many tables and chairs as possible as a cash grab. Easy fix, and I'm surprised it hasn't been done. The menu was legit, and put a lot of my initial concerns to rest. It's gigantic (befitting a diner-esque establishment), with both lengthy breakfast and lunch sections, along with a specials menu that could have been a standalone menu in most places. I was in the middle of a physically active day and got a little naughty (which I regretted later, but that wasn't Red Barn's fault), opting for the Biscuits & Gravy entree, which also came with two eggs and hash browns. Honestly, too much food and in hindsight I would have just gotten the Biscuits & Gravy, especially since my companions and I split pancakes w/ strawberries on top as well. Lesson learned. Everything was very good; nothing mind-blowing, but it did the job. The Biscuits & Gravy was an insane portion, featuring four biscuit halves. I thought the eggs needed a bit of pepper for flavoring purposes, but beyond that no discernable issues with any of the food. The service was very good and essentially matched the chaos in there. Our waitress was understandably very busy, constantly moving around, and yet stopped by regularly. Additionally, all of our orders were on the table within about 10 minutes or so. No issues whatsoever in that regard. Additionally, the bathrooms were a delight, covered in quirky signage. As mentioned, this is kind of a weird area where you don't have a real downtown/Main Street section to meet up with people, so it's a big plus when you find a random, decent establishment. read more

Apparently this place has been here for years but my friends who I come to visit have recently gotten into it and they appear to be coming enough where they know their favorite waitress is Christine. Christine is super friendly and so accommodating usually for the big crowds that come here. We even managed to see one of the real housewives there with her family. That was a surprise! We came here a couple of times during my week-long stay in New Jersey. The ambiance is very barn and kitchy and the food was excellent every time. The chicken bacon wrap to the breakfast platter. The Red Barn seems to be an institution for Montville/Towaco so I have no idea how Wifey and I had never tried it. My daughter and her boyfriend have been here a lot and invited us out for brunch. With a fairly standard breakfast/brunch menu and an 'everything is great' response from my daughter, I went with kind of a standard for me - two eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns, and I HAD to try their biscuits and grits (IYKYK - very few North Jersey places serve grits). Wifey and daughter each got different breakfast paninis. My meal was great - the biscuits here are a little small, but tasty, and they held up when I built two small breakfast sandwiches. The grits weren't anything out of the ordinary if you like grits, but since I almost never get them here I was delighted! Paninis were great according to the ladies, but Wifey took half home since it was a pretty big portion. Our server was great - she told us when she seated us that they were short staffed and apologized ahead of time of the food was delayed. I appreciated the warning, but there was no need to- she was attentive, helpful, friendly and our food came out without delay. This place is cute, but tight. They are always packed on the weekends and there's typically a wait to get a table but they'll make every effort to get you seated quickly. I stopped in on Friday for breakfast and got to choose my table :) Red Barn has a rustic feel with wood panel walls and lots of cute wall decs throughout. It's a small restaurant but oh so worth it! I ordered the avocado eggs Benedict over corn bread from the specials menu. Having corn bread as the base for eggs Benedict sounds odd, but it was good! I'd say 9 times out of 10 I order from their Specials. They come up with the oddest sounded pairings at times but they're delicious. Make sure to ask for the Specials before just ordering from the menu. Service is fast and the ladies working here are all so friendly and personable! Ive been meaning to leave my review for this place. This place has terrible food, bland and not appealing , just look at the pics on here, they don't even look appetizing and taste as they appear. The place looks filthy, and when my son's food had a hair in it and we sent it back it seemed like they just removed it in the back and rearranged the plate and sent it back out to us. This place is definitely a barn, the service staff act like they were raised on one, but not in the best way. Very rude as well as passive aggressive speech, food is ... exactly how you would expect a real barn's standards would have.. just add the animals and this place will really live up to its name. Just a trashy, low class & low quality restaurant. What a shame! A lot of old people come here though, I am guessing because it is simple and reminds them of great depression food, who knows. We were looking for a diner along Rt. 287 and found Red Barn. Charming rustic decor, and an extensive menu of reasonably priced breakfast and lunch options. Good portions, and good, somewhat basic food. The Monte Cristo sandwich was very large and served with fries and a few onion rings. The Greek salad was nice, especially with the gyro and grape leaves, but I would have preferred a more flavorful dressing than the olive oil at the bottom of the bowl. The wood benches are not very comfortable, and I wasn't offered any coffee refills, so don't plan to linger too long. The service was prompt, though very businesslike (not warm and friendly). This place is quaint, lots of country deco, those metal signs all within. It's extremely casual. I ordered a rueben closed. Don't do that or deviate from menu. It came more like a sandwich, I missed the crunch of the pan fry. The french fries were Luke warm at best, and they need a better cole slaw recipe. I am one to take 1/2 my lunch home, it wasn't worthy of taking home. I'll give em another shot, but expect nothing. I placed my order over the phone and with a return time of 15 minutes. The staff immediately greeted me while they packaged my order. The establishment features a unique breakfast counter sitting area as well booths and tables. Everyone was seated around the counter laughing and having a good time while they enjoyed their coffee. My western omelet came with a side of white toast and home fries. I opted to get a side of sausage and sausage gravy. The omelet was cooked nicely with crispy home fires. Got the Eggs Benedict. It was soooo good. Instead of the home fries, I opted for the hash browns. If you're a hash brown lover, then this is a MUST. The hash browns were a beautiful color and super crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside For the eggs Benedict, the hollandaise sauce was delicious, creamy, and buttery. Love this All-American breakfast joint! Came for a weekend brunch and got seated fairly quickly. They had signs all over saying they are understaffed but the service was amazing throughout. We waited about 5 mins before I had to go and get my own menus (even after stopping the server to ask for them).
