Great food, wonderful service. Parking can be tough but the oysters are worth it! So is the soft serve.

We brought the whole family for dinner and everyone agreed that Handline has the very best french fries around! My 3 year old ate the hamburger which was very good and my 8 year old ate the fried fish which she also really enjoyed. My brother-in-law had the pork tacos which had a great kick to them. My partner had the Pacifico tuna tartare and couldn't stop talking about how perfect it was - it had all of his favorite things (avocado, tuna, cilantro and pomegranate seeds - it was really good). I had the ahi tuna fish burger which was served with a spicy sauce on it that was so good I would have bought a bottle of it to take home. We also had some soft serve ice cream at the end. And I ordered a beer and got a lavender soda, it took forever to correct, and my hungry 6 year old's burger came out 40 minutes and several complaints after our food. Won't be back. Love this place, we visit often when we are in town. However the last couple times - the staff vibe absolutely sucked. We were sitting at the bar, and some staff was seated next to us on break - the staff behind the bar was chatting with them - they were all talking sh*t about coworkers. I interrupted briefly to order another glass of wine, and the young man behind the bar slowly looked over and said "what?"... The negativity, laziness, immaturity and apathy from the staff was SUCH a buzz kill. It was the same few employees both times we went. On our second visit the bar area was negative again - we felt like we were in the staff break room - so we moved to a table - three of us are sitting there, when a young woman - short - long brown hair - walks up and slams a "Reserved" sign down on the table then walks away....it was a Manager, i think. We moved the Reserved sign, she walked over and slammed back onto the table. Just awkward haha! We go there because the tacos and wine are great, and we will go back - but will probably avoid the bar if the same employees are working. read more

Credit where credit is due. Handline has stepped it up and gotten those kinks straightened out. I've been here many times now and they have not disappointed once! It's only fair to update my review since they are rockin' it! Love, love, LOVE pretty much everything I've tried on the menu - from their burger to the fish tacos. The veggie tacos surprisingly blew my mind, and the al pastor tacos are my new favorite thing to order. Only suggestion across the board with tacos/tostadas is to lighten up on the cabbage. A massive mound of cabbage just isn't necessary. But overall, everything that comes out of their kitchen is mouth watering good. When I've dined with a group, our food is brought out at the same time, which was not the case when they first opened. It's nice to eat at the same time as everyone else at your table, so I'm glad they got that part figured out. The parking still sucks but I've lucked out lately. Handline is movin' on up as one of my favorite places to dine out in SoCo. read more

El Coronado (on house made corn tortillas) - the battered fish had a nice mild flavor, which was complimented well with the chipotle aioli. Pollo Correcto - the chicken was moist and flavorful, the "fancy beans" were a bit too hard, and the mole sauce was delicious. Not over powering in flavor, but just enough that you wanted some of it in every bite. This was served on a hard flat tortilla. The hibiscus agua Fresca was great. I added some of the sparkling water that was available to make it a bit of a spritzer. The only down side was that our dishes didn't come out together, so we decided to share both dishes, so the other was just salivating while watching the other person eat. read more

Party of three stopped by for lunch and relished a trio of perfectly dressed salads (House Salad, Roots & Shoots, and Heirloom Tomato Salad) with hand-cut fries and Esquites (grilled corn with lime and chilies) for the table. THEY HAVE MY FAV IPA..... Screaming Titan. (Which is a local double IPA with a punch from Fog Belt Brewery) What a spectacular dive that has lots of local seafood to offer..... The have a very small parking lot....FYI Sometimes it doesn't accommodate my Tacoma, Electra and she's better off parked on the street. If you have a Prius or smart car, your golden in their parking lot. There is also a sign on the door that warns you, "If you park at the neighbors, you will be towed. This is your warning" When arriving to Handline, you walk up to order first. Which is very convenient because there is no waiting for your waitress to take your order or waiting to bring you your check. After you get your number, you choose your table (Which is a super bonus to for me). As you order, you can admire their open and flowing modern day kitchen. Personally, I checked out the Pastor on the rotating skewer. Like many of you know, I'm a, "Taco Snob" I've been here a few times before I made me executive decision to eat before I Yelp! First time I had the, Fish Tacos. They come fried which was a bonus (for me) I wasn't very impressed..... Since they lacked sauce! Nor where they life changing..... accompanied with a handmade tortilla and cabbage with a few radishes to look pretty. 2ND VISIT : Ordered the Pastor.... Now, the Fish taco is my # 1 "go-to". With a Pastor as my second best, (beside here) Not only because they cut it off the rotating skewer. Here, It's reverse and the Pastor is great with a mediocre fish tacos. We came here on Sunday for my step Moms birthday dinner. We were surprised to see it was an order at the counter kind of place but that made it easy and we found a table right away. The service was bland- nobody was noticeably friendly or welcoming. But it wasn't bad just no friendly greeting from the cashier just kind of took our order and handed us a number. The food didn't blow me away very much though. The cauliflower tacos- I didn't like this, when I typically love anything cauliflower. The cauliflower was good on its own but all the other ingredients made it very dry and bland and took away the flavor it could've had. Even covered in hot sauce it was still really Boring and tasteless as a whole. The veggie tostada- this was pretty good. My step mom ordered this and after having a bite I had wished I went with this instead. The fries were also pretty good and very well seasoned. We've been going to Handline regularly for 6 years, but go much less frequently now because they have failed to give some attention to their expansive outdoor area and their bathrooms. It's time to do a quick and simple refurbishment! The original gravel has disintegrated to dust generating a dust cloud anytime someone walks past your table. Get a truckload of pebble gravel to spread around and minimize the dust. The wooden tables are badly stained with years of grease and spills. Have someone sand and revarnish the table tops. And, clean up the bathrooms which were great when they were new, but have now deteriorated from years of use and recent neglect. Pay attention to your wonderfully unique asset! read more

Our favorite was the Roots and Shoots which is completely carrying my five star rating for this place because it was such a great dish, even though I was iffy about it when reading the menu description/name. It ended up being really good! Super unique, creative dish. It includes sprouted lentils, roasted winter squash, grilled celery root, chanterelle mushroom conserva, chicory and apple salad, pumpkin seed tahini... lots of different textures with tastes that somehow go together deliciously. And it's presented attractively, too. Fort Bragg grilled oysters were good but not amazing- it felt like kind of a waste to have the oysters grilled to me, but my favorite was a big fan. The rockfish ceviche was good. The chips are excellent. Hook and line California yellowtail: wild hedgehog and black trumpet mushrooms, cabbage, ginger lime broth and mushroom oil for $12. This was a special. We were wondering how it was possible for this dish to just be $12, but it's actually really small. The flavors didn't jive well together in this dish in my opinion- it was kinda weird to have the ginger lime and the cabbage, and then the fish. Not sure how to explain, but the mix just didn't work for me. I ordered the seasonal house soda because it was persimmon. It was $6, damn. Handline is the best combination of casual dining and high quality food. The high quality of the fare here makes for higher prices, but you get what you pay for. Fresh, local, artfully prepared food. We started out with a dozen fresh oysters; fresh and bright flavors with such a gentle brine that they did not need any mignonette. We wanted to try the burger, so we got the Inglewood. They slather it with a cheese that covered the char-flavor and the grass fed beef deliciousness. We asked that the Iceberg Lettuce be left off. People like that Iceberg tradition on the burger, but not me. All in all, if you like beef burgers you'll like this one, most likely, in it's simplest form. They have two Ceviches. I wish they did a half-and-half Ceviche plate, because it was so hard to chose between the two. We got the Rockfish Ceviche, and loved it! Next time we'll get the Halibut Ceviche and decide which we prefer. (Probably both!) The winner of the day was, by far, The Pier. It's a Cioppino-like broth with fresh fish and seafood. It was as fresh as fresh fish should be, brothy delicious, and filling. They have a kids' menu too, which keeps the family-friendly atmosphere alive here. Plus it makes for an affordable meal out for the kiddos. Don't leave without your organic Straus Ice Cream. It's a truly sentimental walk down memory lane, only better. From the start I was sceptical of the place that remodeled our town classic Foster Freeze. I'll admit the first handful of times I came I was impressed. The outdoor setting was well done and the variety of choices was affordable and appealing. However the last couple times I've come have turned me off so much I'll likely not return. Availability of Vegetarian options is inconsistent, portion size has radically decreased, and the prize has increased on some items as much as 30%. Good luck. read more

I got the Inglewood burger it comes looking SADLY BARE but was ABSOLUTELY delicious!!!! There is a hidden sauce inside the really soft bun that it's served on. Lettuce was all it took besides SAUCE yummy!! My dad ordered the clams which was served in a cute dish. And my mom ordered the fish tacos (two big tacos) Can't say no to chocolate n vanilla ice cream together or separate. Took some of it to go. The gal taking orders super funny, she came to our table before we left and I appreciated that because none of the servers really stopped to ask how the meal was. Will be back to try more beers!!! Best French fries ever! Seriously perfectly crispy and delicious, just trust me on this one. I'm still thinking about those fries.

Execellent restaurant experience (especially during COVID)! The waitstaff was very friendly and the wait for the food was about 15 minutes (it was decently busy). The outdoor seating was great and the food itself was delicious! The outdoor seating was spacious but comfortable. We sat on the lower level and enjoyed the shade. We also appreciated the 10+ feet of distance between the tables. All waitstaff wore masks and gloves, and diligently wiped down tables between seatings. For dinner, we started with the esquites which was cooked perfectly. For the entreés, we had a burger and the Mi Papa tostadas. The medium burger was tender and juicy, but not too greasy. The tostadas were packed high with toppings, and though I wish there were more beans and less slaw, they were still quite good. We also had a side of fries, which were crispy and had a good selection. For dessert we had the soft serve. It was as expected, creamy and sweet. Overall, I would definitely come here again. Especially with a group of friends or family. The food was very satisfying and the atmosphere was calming. read more

Handline has a really great patio and outdoor space, and their oysters are pretty good. For the price the food I think could be better, but the space is really good especially if you're wanting physical distancing when you go out but still want to be around people. Plus the place is called Handline and if the fish actually do come from a handline instead of industrial fishing I'll gladly pay a little extra to support that sustainability. read more

My local haunt. I hear people complain regularly about pricing and service. I also don't understand why people get far enough to order multiple oysters off of the menu but also complain about cost..? Also, don't expect to get served at your table. You order and then your food comes to you. So you don't ever have to wait for your server to bring the bill or flag them down for anything. To be honest, I feel like the prices reflect the quality of what you get. If you feel like you've come to a hipster joint, don't complain about the hipster vibe or hipster menu, or hipster location and that you're paying through the nose for something you could have caught yourself out in Tamales earlier that morning. My dad and I met here for dinner a little over a month ago. We were disappointed to find that this is not a full service restaurant, you order at a counter and the food is brought out. For cocktails you are going to the bar for drinks. This is the entire reason for my 3 star review. The prices are too high for ordering at a counter. That said we liked our food.
