    Tres Leches French Toast

Wow wow! LOVE this place! We were BIG fans of Sonoma Eats (in Sonoma, CA) and thrilled to know that they had reestablished the same high quality food & vibe in Santa Rosa! Visited today for the first time since the shift and are over the moon with the entire experience! The owners are AMAZINGLY kind and so dedicated to food quality and great customer service! From the hostess to our server to the bussers - each person we interacted with was lovely and helpful! The food was DELICIOUS & gorgeous! We started with brewed coffee and a Mexican chocolate mocha (divine!) and then shared the special roasted asparagus appetizer and the beet hummus (both fresh, super tasty, and perfectly presented). I had the delightful beet salad as a main dish (we're taking a REAL beet salad not a salad with a few random beets on it, but the main event was a beautiful tower of perfectly executed beets over soft delicious creamy cheese with a pretty little pile of nicely dressed arugula with pepitas on the side) - a perfect plate for sure! My husband had the tres leches French toast (made with croissants) which he is in-love with (and part of the reason we drove from Sonoma to Santa Rosa for brunch :). GO & experience this beautiful restaurant (they put so much love into aesthetics, too - the place is charming yet rustic and the wallpaper highlights are stunning)! Also - grab some fantastic homemade cookies on your way out! 5-stars across the board! Chef's kiss to the whole team!

Parkside Eats recently opened in the former Lepe's space right in my neighborhood. It's a welcome addition to the area and offers a good variety of food options. Parkside is Mexican inspired offering both American and Mexican dishes. My wife and I have been eager to stop in. So this morning we made a date to check it out and here are my thoughts. The menu gets high marks for being crowd pleasing. So if your group is looking for a spot that has "everything", then this would fit the bill. You can find items ranging from burgers, tacos to avocado toast and waffles right under a single roof. This morning I went with the huevos con chorizo. They were good but not great, but nice to know it's on the menu. The service was friendly but a little inconsistent. This could be due to being new and working the kinks out? The ambiance was very nice and offers an outdoor patio (with heaters). I must say, they did an excellent job transforming and upgrading the space. They are open daily from 8AM till 8PM, nice to have another evening burger craving option nearby. Parking is ample, but can get tight during peak hours.

    Guacamole and chips appetizer

Wow what a great place! My kids and I have been here now twice. This place was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad we went. First time I had the guacamole with chips as our appetizer and it is so good, then I had the Baja fish tacos, it's soooo much food for the price, my son had the Burger and it was enormous. The service was fabulous, they were responsive but not intrusive, every plate I saw going to other tables made me want to come back so we did. It's a little loud but it's a small place, it's understandable. My daughter got a vanilla latte which she loved and I had the Jamaica , it was perfect not too sweet. My cousin got the ahi taco which was delicious and also looked beautiful. This will now be part of our regular rotation.

Poke Nachos were delicious - great wanton cihps and good amount of toasted sesame oil.

Tried Parkside Eats at their new location on Montgomery Ave near Howarth park over the weekend. This was day 4 of them being open at this location, but it was clear this was not their first foray into food service! The menu is kind of a hybrid/fusion. They have a breakfast/brunch menu, with standards like chilaquiles, rancheros, and others. The dinner menu is also diverse, and shows fushion across multiple cuisines. This can be a tricky approach to menu-making but we really enjoyed everything we had while sampling across the menu! We tried a range of things, starting with Brussel Sprouts - which were well cooked, and served with apple and chorizo. It was a very tasty dish! They offer a jicama salad, which was very tasty - it was served wth orange slices and pineapple, and a spicy and lively tajin dressing. We loved this dish - it was also absolutely beautiful on the table. I wish we hadn't tore into it before I could snap a photo! We also had their beet hummus, which was also a delight - served with a chili oil made it standout - and the gave us good portion of freshly grilled pita bread for dipping. This was hit. We ended up talking with the chef, and he recommended the ribs and the fish tacos. Both of these were also fantastic. The meat literally fell off the bones! They gave us a nice side of fries and coleslaw with them which was also excellent! Fries were thin and crispy, and the coleslaw was refreshingly light on mayo. The fish tacos were sautéed, and were tasty - served with a nice spicy aoli. Overall, we really enjoyed the food we had, and the casual patio, which was dog friendly, was a big plus. The indoor area looked nicely updated, and they are working on adding a liquor license to make the most of the great bar they have along the patio. This is going to be a hot spot! The food is excellent, and well priced, and the service was on point! Give them a try if you are in the area!

I drove by this place last week and noticed that it had replaced the old Mexican restaurant that was there so my mom and I decided to stop by and eat there on Sunday morning. We were greeted at the door and immediately seated, to my surprise the restaurant was not very busy at 9am. But slowly filled up as we dined. They did a nice remodel to the restaurant, it is quite cute inside. Our server took our drink order, cafe de olla. We received our coffee quickly, the coffee is pretty tasty with notes of cinnamon. The mug it comes in fits with the aesthetic. My mom ordered the breakfast burrito with no meat and I ordered the tres leches French toast. The burrito arrived wrapped in foil on a plate to the table, although not aesthetically pleasing since we were dining in , my mom said it was tasty. The tres leches French toast was presented nicely and was served with maple syrup. The French toast itself was decent, the berry compote was tasty and the whipped cream inside was good. Personally I didn't think the maple syrup was needed because the French toast alone was rich. Overall the experience was good and the food was good.

Parkside Eats -- Where Your Appetite Goes to Be Humbled. First, a warning: if you show up on a weekend without a plan, you and your hunger will be standing on the sidewalk together, bonding over your poor life choices. They're popular. Very popular. Also, don't even think about ordering off the regular menu before 2 pm -- the brunch menu has a strict dictatorship until then. The outdoor seating is covered, which is lovely, until a garbage truck rumbles past mid-bite. Inside, you'll find yourself surrounded by plastic plants that will outlive us all, butterfly wallpaper that somehow works, and retro light fixtures that say "we have personality and we're not afraid to use it." It's kitschy in the best possible way -- like eating inside your coolest aunt's living room. The regular menu is enormous -- the kind of menu that makes you feel like you need a weekend just to read it. But you won't be seeing that until after 2 pm, so focus. The breakfast burger was juicy and unapologetically messy, the breakfast burrito was deeply satisfying, and the chilaquiles were the kind of thing you think about later when you're supposed to be working. Fair warning: the portions are large. Heroically large. You will not finish. You will try. You will fail. You will make peace with it. Service is solid, though if it's busy, your food will arrive... eventually. Good things take time. So do brunch crowds. We're already plotting our weekday return to finally crack open that regular menu. Parkside Eats, we'll be back -- and we're bringing stretchy pants.

    Basic breakfast with chorizo

I remember when this used to be Lepes Mexican restaurant but I saw that it turned into a breakfast/lunch spot called Parkside. So I wanted to give it a go with the family. And we were pleasantly surprised. The presentation of all the dishes was very welcome considering the pricing which was on par for most greasy spoon breakfast joints but Parksides presentation was really beautiful. The flavor of the food was really good. The chorizo had was not extra oily and had just the right amount of salt. Most chorizo try is too greasy and salty for me so it was a delight to have some that was made to my liking. The potatoes had good texture and were fan fries with peppers and seasoning which was a welcome elevation from standard cottage fries. The most surprising and welcome part was the toast. In the picture you can see how thick the slices are, and they too were also pan toasted. Most places use a very thin and kinda sad super white sourdough or wheat bread for their toast choices at breakfast spots, but here they chose some quality bread that worked so well to pair with everything. The staff were very friendly and checked up on us frequently and provided refills on the regular. Over all we definitely enjoyed our experience and are adding it to our rotation of breakfast places in SoCo Over all the family

    Not a good value

Not a fan. We went to this place because it's relatively new and right up the road from our house. Hostess asked two, and I confirmed. She then oddly walked off wiped down about six tables, went to the kitchen, talked to other people then decided to come back and seat us at a table that was already clean. I ordered a coke with our order, 10 minutes later I asked if we can get the soda and was told it needs to come from the bar. Not busy in the place at all then a bottle coke with a cup of ice was delivered. Just a little slow, no big deal. We ordered a $22 burrito, which was relatively anemic and shouldn't be called a super burrito. I asked if they do chips and salsa and she brought chips and salsa and charged $3 for it without any notification. I ask for a small side of mole, and I got a big bowl of it and got charged $5 So $37 BEFORE TIP for a shrinkflation burrito a coke plus add ons. I have to say the staff is very kind and not horrific service but it was a very interesting experience and the food very overpriced for what it was. I hope they work out the kinks but our first experience was our last based on price vs quality of service and portioning.

Side chips and pico de gallo (no refill) $6.00
    Sabrina K.

My daughter and i went, to get a light bite and try this place out; we used to occasionally go to the taqueria in same location. This place appears to be a primarily Mexican food inspired place with some standard American/California cuisine thrown in the mix. When we walked in it was kind of loud and full in main part of restaurant, so we decided to sit in the bar area that was more empty and were greeted by a friendly bar tender. We told her we were new to Parkside Eats. She brought us the coffee, which tasted a little old and not quite hot enough and very small tub of 1/2 n 1/2 (large thimble or shot glass?). I thought, well with these small cups of coffee she'll be back shortly with a hot refill. More on coffee experience further down. We were hoping for late breakfast but we were already way too late so just ordered coffee and tacos to share plus the chips and pico de gallo and side of 1/2 avocado ($3.00) and asked for whatever other salsa they might have, as I'm a salsa queen and love to try authentic home made sauces. The chips were crisp and home made, but very small portion. The pico de gallo was classic and fresh. However, i was shocked by the price for chips with no refills ($6). The only other salsa they had was a creamy spicy habanero style and green. The habanero was not too spicy, tasted pretty nice, not sure if homemade or not. The green tasted like pureed canned green chili peppers (?), no thanks. The Burria tacos were tasty, but on the smaller side for $16 for 3 and adding a 4th was $5 more. I wanted a coffee refill sooner but it was hard to get waiters attention after initially ordering. She finally offered a second cup of coffee when we were done with food. Yes please. Shock, it was terrible. Colder than first cup with that awful sour taste of old coffee. I mean I know it's not supposed to be a coffee shop but they do offer fancy coffee drinks on the menu, so regular coffee shops be good. But don't even offer it if it's not done right! And i had to ask for another thimble of 1/2 n 1/2 ( not to cool it down but for taste). But it made it so nasty and Luke warm i just could not drink it. Two coffees, $8. We paid and left. My take is, overpriced Mexican food, bad coffee. Three stars for the nice effort in flavor and quality of the Burria meat in tacos, and freshness of chips and pico de gallo. Service and pricing need work.

First time here this morning and I'll be back! My sister had the hamburger which she liked and I had to try the Eggs Benedict which I would definitely order again. Very good! They were very busy this morning and the service didn't suffer. This place will be around for awhile.

Decided to try Parkside Eats- down the street from our house. I thought the food was yummy! The menu has plenty to choose from- I got the poke nachos & husband got the potato flautas. our server - she was wonderful and the ambiance was nice. Sat outside -

    Huevos con chorizo

I recently went to Parkside Eats and overall, I was disappointed with the food. The pancakes were okay, but nothing special. The huevos con chorizo and beans, however, were very underwhelming. Both lacked flavor and tasted like they were missing seasoning or some kind of finishing touch. The plate felt incomplete, like it needed something to bring everything together. That being said, the service and ambiance were pleasant and made the experience more enjoyable despite the food not being great. Overall, the experience didn't meet expectations, especially for classic breakfast dishes that are usually full of flavor.

Cobb Salad. Could hardly eat the lettuce as it was dripping in dressing. Couldn't cut up the whole lettuce leaves

They don't currently have a full bar. When I visited they said they were working on it, but it might take a little while. In the meantime, they do offer a nice selection beer/wine, and some sake-based cocktails that looked refreshing!

With all of the options around it is sometimes hard to pick a place to go on a Saturday morning. Jeffrey's is a charming, family friendly establishment that is attached to a small inn off Highway 12. Other inside is pretty small, but they do have some outdoor tables. The interior has some lovely art on the walls as well as positive phrases making you feel like you're home. The service is also great here, and I feel like I've seen the same folks working here for many years. My wife and I ordered two different Hashes to share. The Brussel Sprouts and Bacon Hash is fantastic, which has this blue cheese aioli that gives the dish so much flavor. The Brussel sprouts seem like they're steamed and then tossed in the hash with sautéed diced onions, bell peppers and bacon. The aioli is on the side, but just adding a little bit to each bite gives it so much extra. We also ordered the special of the day which was a Smoked Chicken and Butternut Squash Hash. It has some of the same elements of sautéed onions and bell peppers, but this was served with a cilantro aioli. This dish, while not as amazing at the other Hash, was still really good. My daughter ordered the Buttermilk pancakes (added blueberries to them) with sausage and eggs. She certainly enjoyed them!

The English muffin might have been hard track. It was paper thin and I had to saw through it. Ham had no flavor at all. I don't think it was ham. Maybe thin sliced and unseasoned pork but not ham. Worst part was the county potatoes. They came out slightly above room temperature and hard. They're parboiled then flash fried. Not a bad way to get crisp but I can only assume they do this ahead of the rush and then they sit in a container to be served. My wife ordered her's extra crispy and they come out much better. Coffee smelled and tasted like an ashtray. Overall, I wanted to like this place and the service itself is amazing, but the back of the house needs some work.

I also heard good things about their other restaurants, so it should not have been a surprise that we were also impressed with the food here. Food is served tapas style and honestly, all the dishes sound appetizing. On this visit, we tried a few dishes. I wish I came with a more empty stomach to try more things. We ordered their crispy maitake mushrooms, steamed local black cod, and grilled house-made lamb sausage. Everything was delicious! The crispy maitake mushrooms came with a fish sauce which gave a nice brightening note to eat with fried food. Lemon was also fried with them to help cut any grease, so overall this dish did not feel oily or heavy. The steamed local black cod's ginger scallion oil surprisingly paired very well with the black truffle pesto. It had an earthy flavor profile that was brightened by the ginger. The cod was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms soaked up all of that saucy goodness. I loved this dish! The grilled house-made lamb sausage was Thai inspired and you could definitely taste the spices in the sausage. I actually would've liked more of the tamarind BBQ sauce and basil salad on this dish to help counter the lamb's spiciness a bit, but I enjoyed the dish. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and came out quickly. The restaurant is housed in what looks like a historic house, so it was a very cozy environment. We were surprised by the lemon / tangy flavor in the artichoke dip but really enjoyed it! We LOVED the mussels--this was a generous serving, and this was a great combination with the broth and sausage. The tagliatelle was clearly homemade and fresh, and the sauce was flavorful but light; the only thing I would change is the amount of peas / pea flavor. The chicken skin was perfectly crispy! Lastly, the bread pudding was literally baked fresh to the point where we almost couldn't order it. The staff told us it would be a bit of a wait, but when it took a little longer than expected, they continued to check in on us and whether we still wanted to wait. It was definitely worth it! Food was so tasty. Had a (large) omelet with cheddar cheese, sausage (the Cajun) and added spinach. Side of fruit was fresh. Biscuit (I had to take a picture!) was ginormous and delicious. So much I was able to share with my friend. With honey drizzled on top - yum. I did have to ask for the honey, they were happy to accommodate. To top it off, I found a spot right out front. This is a place that has perfected serving up tried and true favorites and don't mess with stuff that isn't broken. My bf ordered pancakes, bacon and eggs. I had my piece-meal "vegan special": side of (dry) toast, side of avocado, side of hashbrowns, and a fruit cup. The service was super friendly and FAST; the diner was bustling, noisy and smelled of all things breakfast. You can tell looking around that people "know" this spot and have been coming here forever. A great place for breakfast with a quick turn-around time. There are no vegan-specific items on the menu but something can be cobbled together without the server seeming judgey about it.
