We have not been here for a while. Nice little place in Sebastopol. We went at 3 pm and there was nobody in the restaurant. Of course, the service was excellent. We sat in the back patio, and my wife ordered a Sangria, and I just had water. The Sangria was tasty and just a hint of sweetness that I liked, but my wife wasn't as big a fan. She likes sour more than sweet. She ordered the Chili Relleno, and I ordered their special Relleno De Picadillo with Mild Poblano pepper stuffed with ground chuck, ground pork, sweet peas, carrots, potatoes, almonds, cranberries, a touch of chipotle and red wine, covered with our creamy ranchera sauce and Jack cheese. We have always liked their standard Chili Relleno, and today was no exception. It tasted fresh with lots of gooey cheese. My Relleno De Picadillo was sweeter than I thought. Then I re-read the ingredients and duh, sweet peas, carrot and cranberries. I liked it, but would have to be in the mood for a sweet Chili Relleno. It tastes similar to our stuffed bell peppers, which we sometimes do at home. It was large and tasty, but you have to be in the mindset of a little sweeter and not savoury. Came here on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. Decor: The enter restaurant has very unique tables and chairs. We sat inside on the fruit themed table per my toddler's request but would highly recommend you sit outside on the back patio. It is very well staged and takes you to a little slice of paradise. We sat down and the chips came right away along with three salsas. They were very apparently made in house and freshly fried. We ordered the guacamole and it was one of the better guacs I have had. Freshly made with chunks of whole avocado which made for the best texture. For entries hubs and I ordered the Arroz Con Pollo Y Camarones and Pollo Loco. Both were full of flavor and the portion sizes were enormous. We ended up taking majority of the Arroz Con Pollo Y Camarones home to enjoy the next day. The food is outstanding... and trust me you get plenty, and we love the decor in the back seating area with the deer, rabbits & squirrels (not real but it makes a wonderful setting), especially if you bring young children!!! We had a late lunch here for the first time yesterday. We needed a place where we could take our dog. We absolutely loved it. We had Chile Rellanos with beans and rice and they were delicious. Old style, Los Angeles Mexican. Very cheesy. The salsa and refrito dips on the table were also perfection. The ambience is also totally cool and of course the service was fabulous. I've only had the taco plates and they are pretty good. Last time I went in to pick up I saw the most incredible looking chimichanga that's def my next order. Parking here suckkkkks bad so be prepared to park down the street or across it. We have order large trays of make your own tacos for parties and they are def better when they make them for you, but the option to get catering trays is nice. read more

The place was empty. Took the server a bit to get to our table. She brought chips and salsa. She came back with menus and when she went to take our order, I asked for water (salsa was a little hot) She took our order and then brought us water. My enchilada was bland. The taco salad wasn't great. She never came and asked us if we wanted dessert. We had to walk up front from the outside dining area to pay our bill. We could hear her talking to a coworker as she completely ignored us. We got our own to go boxes. She had the personality of a wet noodle. Met a friend here today on her recommendation. Lovely, cute decor, intimate.. nice staff. I ordered the Carnitas Michoacanas and a guava Jarritos. Good value and quantity for the price. The carnitas was a little dry but not bad. Very flavorful and I always enjoy creating my own soft tacos with the ingredients. I've gone to Martha's for ages - maybe 20+ years? Since they opened anyway.... I ALWAYS get the Mazatlan Chicken Tostada!! It's fabulous! I prefer sitting in the fun outside area with the forest creatures, but inside is very colorful and nice, too. The servers are pleasant and efficient. Food is GREAT!! read more

The tranquil backyard patio is where it's at! A secret garden of sorts filled with soothing sounds of water features. There are lunch specials. Their complimentary chips and beans are mild. The beans have some corn pieces in it. I got a huge globe of a margarita that had a real smooth flavor. Too easy to drink! What a great place to grub for a last minute pick! My family of 7 was seated right away just before the rush hour at Martha's Old Mexico. We loved the service, although they were out of a family agua fresca favorite -- jamaica. The chips are served with red salsa and refried beans. Everybody seemed to like their dishes. The food is not too far from authentic Mexican food. The place is relatively small and crammed, but the decor is beautiful and reminiscent of old Mexico. read more

Came in to order food to a practically empty restaurant. One table and they had just received their meal. Waitress told me the wait for to go food would be 25min. A little long for a Sunday night but I said it was fine. Ordered 5 meals and left to run and errand. I came back 30min later and the food was not yet ready. At the 40+ minute mark my food was ready. That's just way too long. The waitress said her obligatory apology for it being late but she definitely didn't care. The food was delicious and portions were good too. The appetizer sampler was quality, freshly made. The Cancun burrito not your typical Mexican burrito but pretty good. Quesadilla was good but looked more like a cheese burrito and so my young son wouldn't eat it. All in all the food was fresh and of good quality. I want to say we'll be back but for us at the point in which we are ordering take out everyone is starving and for it to take that Long is a big downer. read more

Sunday lunch. Place opens at noon. We sit in the back patio / garden. It's a lovely spot. Our young server was happy, helpful and efficient. Drinks and a big load of tortilla chips with two salsas appear immediately. Whiteboard special is a giant poblano chile filled with a variety of meats, raisins, almonds, cheeses, peas, etc.... Sides of rice and beans included.Of course I order it. Bambie orders a hard shell chicken taco and a beef enchilada. The salad is included with my plate and a fairly large crispy fresh one it is with little extras on it, like cucumbers, beets, bell pepper. The house made creamy avocado dressing is sssssmmmmmooooth. I loved it. The entrees come quickly after. My plate of food is huge, pretty and smells GREAT! Bambie ordered a la carte yet her plate is also loaded up. Flavors? Soothing. I love saucy Mexican food. The gravy on my super stuffed chili was like being in grandma's kitchen. We leisurely ate and talked. This patio is a relaxing place to be. Bambie drank a sangria that she liked. Wow - how did I never come here before!?!?! I loved my experience at Martha's Old Mexico. We are always seeking out the best Mexican food in Sonoma County and finally got to see why there are so many good reviews! There are many great offerings on the menu so it was tough to choose! However, I always try out the crispy chicken tacos if they are on the menu and this one did not disappoint! The shell was not greasy, it was a large flower tortilla crisped to perfection, filled with a hefty amount of shredded chicken, lettuce and tomato and salsa. I also had a chile verde enchilada and it was filled full of great chile verde and a wonderful veggie ranchera sauce. Hubby Tom had the chile relleno special of the day and it was also a heaping plate of fantastic goodness! The service was wonderful, we were greeted by friendly servers who showed us their wonderful garden patio - not to be missed in the summer! The look I got from the person working in the front, made me felt that she didn't want me to be there. I was starving. She got my drink and took my order but when food arrived to to table it didn't had a flavor. The sauce that they put on top of my burrito tasted like those canned sauces. It was missing salt. Out of all the Mexican dining in Sebastopol, (there are only 3 choices that I know of) Martha's old Mexican restaurant has got to be my favorite. You can either sit inside or outside in the garden area. Sitting outside in the garden area is a nice experience. THE FOOD : The flavors are exquisite that Martha's. The Chile relleno sauce taste like my grandma's old recipe with authenticity. The guacamole is out of this world. It is loaded with fresh tomato, onion and cilantro mixed in. The chips were decent. Not my all time fave but they will do. When the main entrees arrived, they were baked in the oven. Which in return kept our meals very hot. Little peas and carrots came in their moist rice, which was a nice added touch. All of their food with plentiful and well seasoned. The tacos were ginormous. Some of the largest I've ever seen, like serious monster tacos and stuffed with goods. The fish taco came breaded and fried not grilled. That made me happy girl. THE SERVICE : It could have been better. Our a waitress must have been 17 and acted like it was her 1st day on the job. It might of been. She was quiet as a mouse, I at the age of 36 had to turn up my hearing aids to hear what she had to say. She was so soft spoken and mumbled when she talked which made it hard to communicate. I have eaten there quite a few times and it was always delicious. I went this last Sunday after church and check on yelp there hours. They said they were open at 11:30 but when we got there the hours for Saturday n Sunday is now 12:30 . I'm sure it has to do with finding people to work anymore. I used to live in Sebastopol and frequent this place. Yesterday I was craving their fish tacos on a recent trip to Santa Rosa. My husband and I shared a three entree meal. 2fish tacos and one carnitas taco. Hands down!!! The Best fish tacos ever. I don't know how, but they were even better than before. The carnitas taco brimming with lettuce cheese pico was fresh and perfect. The beans covered in cheese and the rice excellent. Our third visit after an absence. Our second visit was "attempted" due to a power outage. Both times we've dined at Martha's ot has been exceptionally good.
