Bruh - this is the most mediocre BBQ I've had in recent memory. Maybe I'm slightly biased because my buddy brought me BBQ from 407 a few weeks ago but.. The brisket - didn't look great. Tasted mediocre. Smoke ring was OK - salt was nonexistent on the meat. The beans - lame AF. Pinto out of a can probably. The jalapeño sausage - OK The smoked turkey was meh The okra in tallow - best dish they had for me. Still had zero salt in the coating but that was easily remedied. Peanut butter pie slice. Tasted pretty good - just a cup of peanut butter with sugar and a few weak additives. All in all - I was thoroughly disappointed. It's probably good for people who don't know any better. Best BBQ hands down in Texas. They really look after the veterans. They are the opposite of the fakes i.e., Texas Roadhouse, Millers BBQ, Spring Creek BBQ, etc. Hammonds offers authentic Texas BBQ. I was sad to hear that bodacious bbq in Granbury had been shut down quite a while ago, but my dad suggested Hammond's. The meat is phenomenal. for the BBQ Staff super friendly and portions huge. The sides were 4 out of 5 and I really wanted to love the peach cobbler and even asked for ice cream on top only to have it be delivered cold and mostly crust with 3 peaches. Those 3 peaches Amazing as they don't skimp on the love and butter but the ready was just crust :-/ Will certainly come again and they are nice and give you to go cups for their giant beverages read more

So good! Best ribs I've had outside of Memphis. Truly amazing. Also appreciate the small "child's" plate options. I usually have to split meals with my husband because we can't eat that much but these portions are perfect and we each get what we want. Brisket was great too but the ribs are bomb. read more

We stopped at Hammonds on a recent trip through Glen Rose. We had been here before, but it had been awhile. Everything was good, and the jalapeño cheddar sausage was very good. I got a three meat plate with ribs, sausage and turkey. My onion rings on the side were also really good. The ribs are good, but not top level. The turkey was just turkey. But that sausage was really. really good. My wife got a bowl of beans with chopped beef on it and loved her meal. This isn't legendary, but it is tasty, convenient and family friendly. We went to Dinosaur Valley yesterday and stopped here to eat on the way home. It's not a fancy place but absolutely worth it. I think those people giving them a poor rating are just nuts. They are less expensive than many BBQ places. Their portion sizes are above average for what you'd get in a typical restaurant. If you don't have leftovers, you are a pig, period. Everyone greeted us and subsequent diners as we entered. The lady/maybe owner asked if it was our first time then took us to the counter to explain the menus. She was just charming. The girl behind the counter was just lovely as well. My granddaughter got a pork sandwich and her boyfriend got a chopped beef sandwich. They both got multiple sides. I got the tacos and beans which were delicious. I immediately loved this place. I think they should open a restaurant down the street from my house so I could eat here regularly. read more

Their brisket is one of the top 5 I have ever eaten. And I have tried hundreds of briskets. Right on the main road and worth stopping.

The food I got was super good. I liked the brisket a lot better than the pulled pork and the elote style corn didn't taste like anything so that definitely was a bummer. The fries were super good though. We also had two appetizers which was the corn balls (I forget the name and then we also got another appetizer which was the dillo I think was its name and both of those were super good. The service was good as we had a larger party of about 8people I think. We got our food pretty quickly as well. We stopped here on our drive down to Central Texas. This was our second visit together; I had been here solo a few times in previous years. Our last visit was likely in 2019 - we left happy this time (10/18/22) but not as wowed as before. Granted, we have visited some stellar BBQ places in the DFW metroplex lately. However, we don't eat meat that much , so when we have barbecue, it is usually more of a memorable experience. The service was friendly and greeted us shortly after we sat ourselves. We started with the stuffed peppers, which are jalapeños stuffed with cheddar cheese. We each ordered combo plates, which come out with two sides. My brisket was very tender but not very smoky. It didn't have that depth of flavor that you get from a good amount of smoke. I read another review that said the brisket almost tastes baked or roasted, which I could see. It needed more sauce than brisket should require. My turkey was really good. It, too, was very tender. The side salad was extremely fresh, and the okra wasn't bad. My cavewoman said her rib and turkey were decent. All in all, that is about how we each summed up our meals. The portions, overall, were generous and seemed in keeping with the prices. I think I've found my NEW top bbq spot on the planet. I have been salivating over this place since the night I dined here Talk about melt in your mouth brisket. Every single bite was better than the last. The onion rings were APLENTY , the price of each plate was by far the best value in bbq I have ever came across ! My wife got the spicy cheddar sausage and she said 10/10! The service was on point. Our server was kind , fast, and knowledgeable . The child bbq plate was ENORMOUS. I had high hopes for Hammonds after seeing the reviews. The brisket was more like a roast from an oven with little flavor or seasoning. The ribs were pretty good, they did have great flavor and had been seasoned! The bbq sauce was ok, had more of a vinegar taste to it which personally I'm not a fan of. read more

When I was relatively new to Texas and Dallas, we used to come to Hammonds because there were few if any good BBQ places in Dallas 15-20 years ago. That was before Lockharts, Pecan Lodge, Terry Blacks, Slow Bone, Lakewood Smokehouse and numerous others. Way back then, Hammonds was at the top of the BBQ list IMO. When we returned to Hammonds in October 2020, we had not been there in at least 15 years. I don't know if they changed or if I understand BBQ better now, but it was not as I remembered it. On the positive side, the sliced brisket was incredibly tender. The portion was quite large. Prices are very reasonable. The Cole slaw was really good. Onion rings may be from a box but they were good. The ambience was pure Texas. But 15 years ago they had sawdust on the floor, no longer. On the negative side, the wife's chopped brisket was more like minced. It was chopped so fine that it was almost baby food. My main criticism is that the meat had no smoke flavor whatsoever. None. I commented to the wife when we drove up that was no smoke in the air. The meat tasted as if it had been baked but it did not taste smoked. And that is what BBQ is about, and that is why I give it 3 stars. read more

I started eating at Hammond's back when A. J. and Linda ran the place. Experiences have varied through the years but I've never found it not, at the very least, satisfying. Until yesterday. Picked up a to-go order. Two pounds of slice brisket and a pound of chopped. The chopped was good. The sliced is the fattiest sliced brisket I have ever encountered. Most of these slices have a mostly unrendered fat cap of at least 1/2 inch on them, some as much as almost a full inch. I laid all the slices out on a cutting board and my best eyeball guess would be the meat to fat ratio is about 65:35. I'm going to assume this was a one off occurrence. Either the brisket didn't get trimmed well or didn't cook as expected. I've smoked enough briskets to know that each one has a mind of its own when it is cooking. Nevertheless, I'm sad to say it was a most disappointing box of sliced brisket. At least for me, my dog isn't voicing any complaints about the bowl full he got. read more

We were at the nearby dinosaur world and creation museum and needed to grab some lunch. Couldn't have a found a more perfect spot. We got sausage and ribs. Man, the ribs were so tender and with a light tug came right off the bone. They had the smoke ring and all. I really liked the potato salad. The drinks are HUGE so keep that in mind if you're eating in the car. Next time we're in town to checkout the attractions, we'll stop by for some more BBQ for sure! read more

I got the chopped brisket sandwich and the chopped brisket loaded baked potato and it was *incredible* Sandwich came with extra sauce and pickles + onions and it was perfect. Delicious beefy bites! We also got an order of fries which went perfectly with the sandwich and was soooooo crispy! The loaded baked potato was crazy delicious! This is a cool place to stop by and grab some BBQ. We were on the way back from fossil rim and saw this place and thought we'd give it a try. The interior is full of licence plates from almost every state and has a casual vibe. We both ordered a brisket sandwich as it was on a daily special and it was sooo good. The brisket was so tender and melted in your mouth and the bbq sauce and brioche bun were sweet and just went so well together. We were welcomed with Southern hospitality a friendly smile, attended to quickly, and appreciation for our business! This is the only bbq restaurant I've eaten where it is not cafeteria style and I really enjoy and prefer it this way. I wish other bbq restaurants did the same. My ribs were fall off the bone succulent, plenty of meat, nice bark, and paired well with the bbq sauce although delicious alone as well. The hot links had a nice kick although I can tolerate even more heat. My green beans with bacon and pinto beans both were well seasoned and very plentiful! 1 side is double the size compared to competitors who typically serve their sides in a small styrofoam cups. So their side portions alone were impressive. My hubby enjoyed his tender juicy brisket and sausage which like mine has a crisp snap on the casing. The onion rings were on point. The batter was nice and crispy with sweet thick onions inside, addictive. Hubby ordered a slice of Pecan Pie which you have the option to have it served warm as we did it was decadent! Definitely ask for it to be warmed! I forgot to take a pic bc he devoured it without hesitation. The pie crust was flaky and held up well to the filling. No soggy bottoms here! We were in town for Fossil Rim, the wildlife preserve. After our tour our kids were quite hungry. We remembered passing a BBQ place on the way in so we decided to stop for lunch. Parking was pretty nuts, people parked in very strange areas, we were able to find a spot but we also went at 11am, I am not sure you would find parking easily around noon as it seems quite popular at 11. My family of four ordered a kids plate ans one two meat place. We got the kids frys as the side and my husband and I had the fried okra and green beans. This was enough food for all of us but if you have older kids or big eaters you might need more but I think the portions size were very nice. We tried the brisket and turkey, the turkey was all of our favorites and the BBQ sauce was incredibly tasty. I'd come back on future trips to Glenn Rose. read more
